I wish everyone could/would do this. There is a man in my town that sued the local Code Enforcement Agency...and won!....but he refused to mow his yard until a certain date so that he could have wildflowers for the bees and butterfly during their peek honey season/butterfly migration. He is a beautiful old man.

I make a point to not mow until around June for just this reason. And even then, I've let about half my property revert so the critters have somewhere to go.

As long as it doesn't obstruct the view of traffic, all verges and grassy areas of parks are left to grow wild here in our part of Germany now until summer is well underway and the early pollinators have had their fill. Usually they just mow a strip by the road/bike path to ensure a clear view of oncoming traffic and leave the rest.

Awareness of environmental details and all the interesting things that happen around you is vital for any photographer, amateur or veteran alike. We were curious to find out how people can cultivate this awareness.

"Being aware of your surroundings comes from being able to disengage, at least in my opinion," photographer Dominic from Ohio explained to Bored Panda.

"Taking the time to disconnect from the world and be at one with nature (if that's where you are) is an asset that just takes time to get used to," he said that there are elements of practice and experience at work here.

Every cat I've ever shared a life with does this. Their paws are incredibly sensitive. Ever watched a cat walking across a wet or cold surface? Extends one front paw. Averts gaze in disgust. Sets paw down. Immediately shakes paw. Advances forward. Sets next front paw... [Repeat]. Rear paws alternatively placed and shaken as the cat moves forward.

Bored Panda also wanted to get the photographer's perspective on what can inspire people to relax and be less stressed about the entire process of photography as a whole. Enjoying oneself can be difficult for some creatives when they're so focused on getting the very best results possible.

Dominic opened up to us that having more fun is an area of his life where he's had to focus on improving himself. "Just taking photos for yourself and making sure you're enjoying what you're doing is what's important," he said.

"Life can be far too serious and it's always good to remember to have fun in all that you do," the photographer shared some heartfelt advice.

At the time of writing, the group was the 22nd largest subreddit on Reddit as a whole. The concept is so popular that numerous other social media groups dedicated to mildly interesting content have since sprung up.

According to the large moderator team that keeps the group’s sprawling community and flood of photos in check, the entire point of the subreddit is to post mildly interesting stuff.

Aka, “Stuff that interests you. Mildly. It’s in the name.” Naturally, the point is to share photos of things. So, this isn’t the place to post memes that you liked.

Originality is a core tenet of the subreddit’s philosophy. The moderators highlight the fact that you aren’t allowed to post something that has been submitted to the site before, “even if you were the one who posted it.”

The only exception is sharing a fixed version of your post if it was removed or deleted by the moderators—or is wildly unpopular. After all, good timing is hard to pinpoint: some pics will get a ton of attention because you got lucky when you shared them.

The moderators stress the fact that if you didn’t take the picture, you shouldn’t be posting it. They’re also not big fans of images with significant photo editing. Nor should you share any personal information, whether yours or someone else’s. It’s okay to censor those details for the sake of privacy.

Meanwhile, you can’t share screenshots on ‘Mildly Interesting.’ And you should try to write the titles for your posts to be as concise and exact as you can be, for the sake of everyone who comes across your photos.

A religious zealot cumquat once chastised me for playing jazz on the church's Hammond organ after I completed repairing it. He said the bible calls Jazz the music of the devil! Jazz was created in the early 1900's. I am pretty sure the bible writers never heard jazz.

what if it’s the middle of the road? I rescued a bird from a dog and brought it to a rehab place. A month or two later I got a call from the rehab wanting to know where I found the bird so I told them I found it in a dog‘s mouth. I didn’t think it was a good idea to put it back into the dog’s yard.

One of the reasons why those mini-tablets are filled into a capsule could be that they have different release profiles. For example, some of them release the API (d**g; Edit: drūg) immediately while others have a functional coating layer, which allows the API to be released over the course of several hours. The reason behind this is to keep a constant concentration/blood level of the API.

Those machines generate so much EM radiation that can only be operated within a Faraday cage. Otherwise they'd disrupt all the radio and Wi-Fi in the building. They play hell with I-phones especially but that's because they are cooled with liquid helium and any Apple device that uses a MEMS actuator as a clock can get bricked by a dose of helium.

Actually, a Faraday cage is ineffective against magnetic field, which is generated by MRI magnet. The copper shielding is used to prevent OUTSIDE radio frequency electromagnetic noise from ENTERING the MRI apparatus and distorting the scanning results.

I had a check of that and it looks like $85 is super cheap. They are reinforced cardboard and as one article put it.. "Why are cardboard coffins so expensive? The market for caskets is tiny, at most people will only buy one their whole life. So the economies of scale around manufacturing, shipping, and warehousing that exist for a Home Depot mass-market bookshelf don't exist. It's more of a specialty item and those are always expensive".9 Feb 2021 :-)

These are for cremations. Which annoyed people to find out the last time this image was on BP a few months back. At that time, someone was trying to claim it was the only option for the 'poor'. Cardboard boxes for cremations is seen as an inexpensive alternative to cremating the wooden coffins. That way, a person can rent a coffin for a viewing, then when it comes time to cremate the body, it's transferred into one of these.

    Norm Gilmore

I don't think there is a transferring as such. One of the suppliers of cardboard coffins showed the cardboard one inside a fancier 'display' casket which is hired for the viewings.

Hot house, vs non hot house. Basically, places like Kroger's (and most grocery stores), purchase from farmers who use hot houses (green houses) to grow things like strawberries, tomatoes, green onions, and a host of other plants. This keeps the prices down, and allows them to have the produce year round. If they went through a farmer's market, or direct from a farm, the quality would be better, but the fruits would be seasonal, and quite often, out of stock simply because the overall volume required couldn't be met.

The difference between the two strawberries above are the time on the vine to ripen. Commercially picked Strawberries are picked earlier off the vine to last longer. That's all the difference is, they pick them earlier to help the travel. Without going too far into it, there's less oxygen in the white part which slows the aging.

My best guess is that removing the leaves encourages the plant to grow upwards instead of outwards. Pretty sure I've read somewhere that some plants can be trained to grow a specific way like that.

One of the things wrong with US culture right now is definitely the truck culture. Ginormous trucks and SUV's driven by people who don't even put groceries in the back, let alone haul anything. You literally cannot buy these "compact" trucks anymore in the US.

False - Hyundai Santa Cruz, Ford Maverick, Chevy Colorado and now Chevy El Camino's possible return. And if you count it as a truck there's the Jeep gladiator/Cyber truck AlSO - For the environmental side - The average gas MPG for a 1985 Toyota is 16-18. The newer FULL size get 20-24. So this dad has been creating a larger carbon footprint in fuel consumption...

If you look at the rings, it could also be because many large trees srout from the same root but as many saplings, then they eventually grow into one another, forming a large tree in the end. The different colors would then be the wether he hit the saplings, the bark inbetween or new growth fibers that fill in.

Actually, it is. "American Cheese" is a blend of cheddar cheese, milk, and oil. The only reason it came about was, prior to its invention, it was very difficult to ship cheese cross country. The cheese would spoil (we're talking primarily cheddar cheeses), grow mold, or dry out when being shipped. The inventor of the cheese worked out a way to prevent this from happening, while also sealing it into convenient single use packages. Those single use packages meaning you didn't have a block of cheese go bad before it was all consumed.

My maternal family used to refer to them as "pig trails". Many of the roads are paved over trails the Native Americans tread many years ago following the natural topography of the area. The Ocoee River Road in Cleveland Tennessee is a great example of that. This looks like it could have been formed that way.

I appreciate that but it looks way too regular to me. Plus that looks like farmland to me and when you get out into rural America, the roads tend to follow the section lines of the old farmsteads.

Snake Road to the Big Cypress Reservation. In the 60's Claudia (Lady Bird) Johnson went on a nationwide campaign to beautify America's roadways. When this road was commissioned she thought a straight line thru the swamp wasn't very pleasing so curves were incorporated into the design. The waterway are canals dug to provide fill for the roadbed.

Probably. There are different species. As far as I know keeping them as a pet in the US is prohibited because they are a danger to agriculture and also like to eat the Calcium-containing exterior plaster of houses. (In Europe, or at least Germany, they are not regulated pets, as it is assumed that the winters get cold enough to eradicat any population of the previous year).

Scars are less likely to get dirty because they don't have sweat glands, hair, or pores, so there's nothing for dirt to stick to.

In my youth, I was playing with a glider (about 4 feet across), mostly made of expanded polystyrene, about 50 metres from the edge of a cliff overlooking the English Channel. A gust of wind caught it and carried it out to sea, never to be seen again... or so I thought. A week later someone brought it to my home, having found it while on a boat. I'm glad I'd written my address on it!
