You could be right man but kid me would have loved to dress up like these things. I was the scream one year and girl with a pearl earring another (13 and 8) respectively. Please don't stereotype children into your lose generalizations. Some people love Halloween; some hate it. But most people think of it as a holiday that isn’t very serious and don’t give it much thought. However, Halloween is a deep topic that has been studied by professional academics, the greatest among them being Bannatyne. Bored Panda spoke to her about the holiday’s popularity in the West, especially in the United States, and she gave three main reasons for it.
“Halloween’s popularity, especially among adults, began to surge in the 70s and has been growing ever since. Nostalgia is one reason. Kids who grew up in the golden age of trick-or-treating (50s, 60s — before the rumors of razor blades in apples and stranger danger) didn’t want to give it up, and threw Halloween parties where they could still get into costume and go out at night.”

Wonderfully outrageous parades erupted in gay communities in the late 60s and 70s (San Francisco’s Castro, Greenwich Village, etc.) that painted Halloween as a renegade holiday; it was both inclusive and extreme, a night where, whatever box you were in during the day, you could bust out at night. Looks like she has diastasis, that hole almost through her stomach wall. I got same hole from having twins my stomach muscles didn't reattach and I also have this hole where my organs protrude from. Hurts when they get stuck. Was told it's not medical it's vanity and to go pound sand unless I had big money for tummy tuck. Just surprised to see a rich chic have it out like that.

I thought it may be a hernia. DrGirlfriend, I don't think your doctor was correct in saying that diastasis is not a medical issue! If your organs are protruding through the hole in your stomach to the point where it hurts, you could be seriously in danger. If your intestines twist within that hole, you risk that section dying, turning septic & you could die very rapidly. It's not vanity at all, it is a life threatening condition. GET ANOTHER DOCTOR! Please!

I grew up with working poor parents. My mother and I made awesome costumes out of stuff found at thrift stores and out of craft material. I would love to see a post on the best inexpensive homemade Halloween costumes.

As a Brit I don't understand why people dress up as anything or anyone - it's halloween. In the UK the costumes tend to be to spooky, halloween related things and not just fancy dress that could be worn anywhen. I have no doubt I'll be downvoted to oblivion for daring to share my opinion.

No, I think you are in pretty safe company here. BoredPanda has a pretty international readership (they are an European site), and it is generally the political articles or articles about activists where some people foam at the mouth if you disagree with them. People still celebrate Samhuinn (Samhain) where I’m from. However, Halloween does seem to be gaining traction in other parts of the world.
