If you think about it, making a film is such a huge, multilayered creative endeavor that it’s totally possible to generate enough drama to make another movie. For example, Tommy Wiseau’s “The Room,” which spawned “The Disaster Artist.” Similarly, superfans of one film or another can often find interesting details and stories when exploring what goes on behind the scenes.
So the "Movies In The Making" internet group exists to share all the interesting behind-the-scenes footage and stories of our favorite films. So get comfortable, upvote your favorite pics, and share your thoughts in the comments below.

Indy (Harrison Ford) Accompanied By His Sidekick Short Round (Ke Huy Quan)
Ke Huy Quan getting his Oscar and beelining for Ford to hug him was the highlight of the evening
The Club Obi Wan opening of Temple of Doom is probably my all-time favorite 9+ minutes of cinema history. Ke Huy Quan's 'Hey, Dr Jones, no time for love!" was simply priceless...
Load More Replies...Ironically, I actually have the right to be. But just not the ability.

Upvote for Harrison Ford, lovely man and actor. Also love that Ke Huy Quan getting a well deserved Oscar, upvote for him too.
Harrison Ford Accidentally Makes Contact While Throwing A Punch To Ryan Gosling On The Set Of ‘Blade Runner 2049’
Ryan Gossling deep inside is thinking “wow Indiana Jones popped me one”.
Is it just me or does Gosling look like a hot version of Marv from Home Alone, at least in this picture 😅
I wouldn't think so, but when I read your comment, I could surely see it

I'm willing to bet she built that sucker herself! 😄🤘
Load More Replies...If a new metal is found/made, they need to name Sigourneym.
Load More Replies...JFC! That's how a real flame thrower should work! That's not some propane powered bush burner, that thing is using white gas. Remember when Musk started selling "flame throwers" for his Boring Company? This is how a real flame thrower works. You need heavier fuel. You need gasoline.
Flamethrower use either liquids or gels - gasoline doesn't burn in liquid form
Load More Replies...Not going to lie, that looks like blast! Sigourney Weaver is a total badass.
Pat Carroll Recording Ursula For Disney’s The Little Mermaid (1989)
Yeah and it was her first time voicing a villain. She took the role so she could see what being the bad guy was like.
Load More Replies...Those poor unfortunate souls! So sad, so true. They come flocking to my cauldron crying, "Spells, Ursula, please!"
That’s A Good Boy
Looks like he's regretting all of his life choices that led him to this point :-D
Even though his facial work will never be seen, he is performing emotionally for the benefit of his costar. Paramount professional.
That's Sean Gunn, brother of the director. Looks like he lost a bet with him.
"Here I am, a classically and modern trained actor, capable of so much more and able to act with the greats and I'm dressed up as bloody Kermit being petted by a retired wrestler. Granted he is a nice guy but come on! Who the hell hates me so much?"
Looks like a bad scene from a jail cell where things just took a turn for the worse...
Remember That Scene In E.t. The Extra-Terrestrial Where E.t. Wears A Ghost Costume And We Can See Through His Eyes?
I've never seen it, either. I had the choice of 'E.T' or 'Star Trek: Wrath of Khan' and chose the latter. Do not regret it.

Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, And Taika Waititi Sleeping Behind Scenes Of Thor Ragnorak
They can say they slept with Tom Hiddleston. And Taika can say they sporked
I saw on the Graham norton show that they developed a snuggle-culture while filming one of these franchises, but i cant remember if this is that film or if they do man-snuggles on many film-sets. Wich i hope they do.
looks like me, my brother and my sister when we had to head up to my uncle's house in the mountains, the back of out station wagon could go down and we all slept like that on the way home~ {miss that place and hi, he was a real mountain an and was so sweet, raised chickens and had an old old iron stove and it was just awsome, then in his last 2 years of life he had to move down into the town in a trailer and leave his chickens{that he released up there still kicking and breeding free!}

That looks axactly like what Lil Nas X would wear at the next Met Gala
Omg is that an uncensored cuss word? Did they finally change the rules
My roommates and I made the mistake of going to the midnight showing of Alien when it came out. Needless to say, we did not get to sleep that night!
I made several mistakes watching that movie the first time. 1) Not having any idea what it was about other than I heard it was good and it was Science Fiction. 2) Watched it by myself. 3) Midnight showing. 4) My ride home was a Moped with a single headlight along country roads. Never again.

The Fifth Element (1997) - The Amazing Miniature Work Behind The New York Cityscape Of The Movie
Maybe it's just me, because I'm getting old, but I like this so much more than all the CGI in movies today. It feels like everything somehow has more substance. I recently watched the old neverending story movies with all the puppets and I was just in awe of what they were able to do without CGI.
A lot of movie companies are starting to go back to practical effects as they feel the current CGI generation companies are taught how to make cartoons too much and it shows in none cartoon movies
Load More Replies...This was, and still is an amazing movie. The costumes, de decor, the music, epic.
This is one of my all time favourite movies - I love it - its Sci Fi and funny, it has pathos and awesome music - just everything about it - love love love it
I still feel like CGI just isn't there yet. Real things just look more real. Sort of like the uncanny valley, but with more than people. Maybe that's why Musk's Cybertruck is so ugly. He craves the uncanny valley. What a weirdo.
Yes. We aren’t Luddites demanding a permanent return t9 the old way. We’re people with eyes who see that CGI needs more development before it can realistically replace people, buildings, cars, landscapes, etc. Just a temporary step back until the leap forward is completely ready to replace it.
Load More Replies...Still better than CGI. It takes draftsmanship and dedication to make unreal look real.
Steve Buscemi, Adam Sandler, And Brendan Fraser On The Set Of Airheads, 1993

The Harry Potter movies will always be one of those "magical" moments for them when they look back on it
And now with babies. The actress who played Ginny Weasley, the announcement of her having a newborn was on the same weekend that Dumbledore died. That was serene.

I love this movie. All of the emotion that is present in the film is amazing. It’s not just a movie, it’s a journey. You are along for the ride.
A Terrific Foreground Miniature By Spanish Effects Maestro Emilio Ruiz Del Río For Conan The Destroyer (1984)
All of this work, and some guy goes " two sticks will be fine " no no, no braces, just the sticks".
They used this same techniques in The Lord of the Rings to make Frodo and Bilbo look much smaller than Gandalf in the Bag End scenes. Forced perspective works so well, because film (and even digital capture) is all 2D, so they can manpulate your perspective with proper staging and camera lenses.
Behind The Scenes Of Thor Ragnarok
Miniature Set From Goldeneye (1995)
It baffles me how realistic this is. The hard work and effort put into this is uncomprehensible to me.
The guys that created scenes like this are amazing. As are the crews who build the sets; I've seen an empty sound stage converted to a complete set ready for dressing in a single day. Awesome

Atest Audience Reacting To The Chestburster Scene In Alien, 1979
The one that gets me is the one far right who looks like a geography teacher/mass murderer!
Every man in the 80's looked like a serial killer. It's the glasses.
Load More Replies...If you haven't seen Alien before, don't watch it when you are 8.5 months pregnant. Trust me.
Apparently Ridley Scott didn't tell the cast who were clustered around John Hurt before the Alien baby burst out of his chest what was going to happen, that's the reason they all looked so bloody terrified - it was real !! John Hurt, was, of course in on the joke, so to speak.
This is like the original of that Survivor meme lmao kx2z4u0mdpa11.gif
Yes, that scene was intense. The actors did not know exactly what was going to happen, so their looks of shock, disgust etc. were genuine.
James Cameron On The Set Of Titanic
🤣 I’d like to think he’s partly wallowing in the cold/wet and partly trying to find a solution to move his increasingly expensive production successfully beyond whatever hiccup they encountered in this scene
I remember all the naysayers back in the day mocking how much money was being wasted or pointing out that it's dumb to make a Titanic movie anyway because everybody already knows how it ends. Like, duh, the ship sinks! XD
Load More Replies...He is thinking "We should have built a real titanic and sunk it with everyone on board. We would have saved so much in special effects and wages"
I wonder if this was before or after someone spiked the catering table soup with PCP (possibly as an act of revenge against James Cameron - they never found out who did it, but an awful lot of people got high, and then sick).
Dude, you're the director. They'll probably let you into a lifeboat, but you better hurry

Zoe Saldana (Older Gamora) And Ariana Greenblatt (Young Gamora) Behind The Scenes Of Avengers Infinity War
WHY IS GAMORA (edit: tysm guys for the awesome thread and the points! I have never gotten this many!)
"So...which one of us gets to sit here" *Rock, paper, scissors game ensues*
They both have that look that someone is going down.
Load More Replies...I watch a lot of movies, {also I'm an artist so I study faces} and to say that Ariana DOES 100% look like a younger Zoe {saying that I haven't actually seen her nongreen young face lol} is epically awesome, Not a lot of people will notice this but they have the same face structure, eye shape, and chin, if you were to tell me they were related in someway I would not be surprised, they did a GREAT job on this
That young girl has been knocking out of the park recently as the daughter in Barbie and young Ashoka too. Hella geek credentials she's got now
They're both giving each other the same stare-down look and it's really funny
Love them both, but 'young Gamora' is FIERCE...I'd be more afraid of her TBH
Peter Quill: I’m gonna ask you this one time… Where is Gamora? Tony Stark: Yeah. I’ll do you one better. Who’s Gamora? Drax: I’ll do you one better! Why is Gamora?
Mark Hamill, Marilou Hamill And Their Son Nathan On The Set Of "Return Of The Jedi"
Good lord. No DNA test needed to know that it's definitely Mark Hamill's boy.
I never knew he was married. I mean, I don't follow actors closely but I'm still a tad surprised I never heard he had a wife and kid. Married in 1978. Still married apparently. Also, that 'young man' is now 72. I feel so fricking old.
They have a sweet story. She really grounded him in a good way. Look it up.

Steven Spielberg Was So Scared Of The Rope Bridge In Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom (1984)
He'd have to drive a mile and half to get to the other side. Harrison Ford on the other hand wasn't scared and ran across the bridge as fast as possible the first time he saw it.
I'm team Harrison Ford. I would love to trot across this.

The Transformative Makeup Process For Gary Oldman's Character In Hannibal
i see gary oldman... i upvote. even if it is gary oldman behind layers and layers of prosthetic makeup!!
This movie is the source of one of my favourite movie making anecdotes: the costume/effects people were talking about how to do the makeup, and someone said "we should pin his eyelid back!" and someone else said "nah, he'd never agree to that." Then Oldman shows up and says "hey, guys, I've got a great idea! Let's pin my eyelid back!" (They presumably used some kind of special glue, in case anyone's picturing an actual pin).
Thank you for the clarification, for I am stupid and thought they used an actual pin

But I must have heard "My Heart Goes On" about a million times that year. Ahh memories.

They named an NPC in Critical Role after Grant Imahara. A very skilled tinker from Bassaras.
I saw, like a week ago, an ad but I can't remember what the product was, I'm thinking a cleaning product, and it was Karrie and Tory in the ad! I recognized Karrie Tue first time I saw the ad but Tory looks different enough that it didn't immediately register to my brain that that was him.
Men In Black (1997) - All The Work That Goes Into Capturing A Shot Of Will Smith Sitting On A Bench
We take for granted how good the outdoor lighting is when it’s snowing on our tv screens
Load More Replies...Well, you have to remember that this is the scene where he sits on that bench to decide whether to take the MIB job, starting in the the afternoon/early evening, over the entire night, and on into the next morning. So my guess is that it was getting the shot with all the changes in the lighting looking as smooth and natural as possible that necessitated all the equipment.,
I would give anything to work in movies, except for my financially secure, boring life. Or my dog. Just Wow. Respect. Thank you for doing what you do.
Load More Replies...Filming outdoor can be difficult because of changes in sunlight, clouds, weather. (Not to mention, if they need to film a scene in different days)
LOL at the crowd of gawkers. "I SAW WILL SMITH!" "cool, what was he doing?" "SITTING ON A BENCH! And the next day I sat on the SAME bench!" "gee, um, how nice for you". -- TBH though I would probably watch as well. I don't go ga-ga over famous people but I do take interest in how things are done behind the scenes.
So the white screens I assume reflect the light towards him. What are the dark screens for?
from right to left, the green one cut out half the light, the next top one is doing a similar, to balance the light from the right of his face. The black one, known as a 'solid' is a negative fill to shape his face and the white one is called fill, it balances the light from the other sides. The big black one at the left is most likely a shade for the camera team. As we spend a lot of time in the sun.

So sad the movie studio killed the cgi studio that created the effects by simply not paying them until the went bust.

Titanic (1997) After Finding Out That She Had To Be Naked In Front Of Leonardo Dicaprio, Kate Winslet Decided To Break The Ice, And When They First Met, She Flashed Him
Similar to the opium perfume model whose name escapes me was considered brave for being so chubby and she was a size 10 or something.

Actually that was the first scene to be shot in the movie in order to capture the awkwardness.

Kurt Russell Before And After Cgi On Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
Incredible de-aging effects. Even more incredible hair. I think Kurt Russell's hair should class as a special effect in its own right.

Leonardo Dicaprio And Daniel Day-Lewis On The Set Of "Gangs Of New York."
Such a good movie! I love this picture of them, looks great in black and white.
DId they dislike each other? They seem to deliberately NOT talk to each other in this picture.
I wouldn't be surprised. DDL is a method actor and is known for not breaking character when filming.

Chris Evans On The Set Of Captain America: The First Avenger [2011] Wearing Rubber Shoes Made To Look Like Bare Feet
Fun fact, this was filmed at the Albert Dock and surrounding area in Liverpool UK. I used to live across the road.
Because the scene required him to run barefoot, and they didn't want him to damage his feet. Looks creepy AF though, like the feet of a corpse that's been in water too long.

I'd record it, honestly. I know it would be illegal in some sort of way but oh well!
As long as they are in public it should not be though?

I love the way in focus are not only his wife, but the camera. Priorities.
It stuck to the book better, so in that way I agree with you. . I have it on DVD and really need to watch it again.

This was interesting. I liked and upvoted. I liked best the commentaries about things that were very well done without CGI.
I'm not a film buff but I loved these. Just one point. If you put so much effort into filming sitting on a park bench, then at least you can bring along some cheap mattresses for the actors to sleep on.
So true!! I've been an extra in several things (just fun and easy since I'm close to Chicago) and the days are SO long and rest is so needed.
