The ability to just click a few buttons on your phone, laptop, or tablet and have physical goods dropped off at your doorstep is truly a marvel of the modern world. But some folks have gotten so used to it, that they seem to not even understand how to actually get up and get their own stuff anymore.
Amazon employee and TikToker Amazon King shared his thoughts on people who seem to order all of their water and dog food from the company. Commenters debated his ideas and provided some counterpoints about why someone might need to have these things brought to their doorstep.

It, reportedly, owns over 30,000 delivery vans and is set to receive roughly 100,000 more electric variants over the next six years. In many cases, these vehicles are sublet to smaller companies that actually do the delivery process.
The real feather in Amazon’s cap is their fulfillment centers. These allow the company to quickly fill up and send out trucks to the various locations people are ordering from. It also allows for a great amount of streamlining, since all the items first go to one place. It’s the same logic that makes a huge supermarket so successful, everything can be in one place. Our brains just like this sort of systematization.
The precise number of fulfillment centers in the US is not publicly known, but one 2021 report suggested that it was almost 200. By now that number has undoubtedly increased. This strategy also allows them to stock a massive amount of goods. After all, you won’t buy a product that isn’t there.

This ceaseless swarm of vehicles, technological prowess, and a solid road system all contribute to the fact that now over 60% of online customers expect one to two-day delivery for nearly everything. It might almost seem quaint to wait 2-3 weeks for something like we used to. For better or worse, the result of this is that people won’t use other services that take a little longer and have started to over-rely on Amazon for practically everything.
This is perhaps why the above video happened in the first place. Folks have started ordering even daily essentials instead of just getting up and driving (or walking) to the store. While it doesn’t seem likely that many people are out there, dehydrated, waiting for the Amazon delivery person to bring water, there have to be a few who really do live this way.

However, as many commenters note (you can read their thoughts below) there are many people who might be sick, injured, or disabled. If you have a dog, it needs to eat, regardless of your shoulder injury. So there is no doubt a slew of lazy people out there, their laziness creates jobs for other folks, and people with disabilities benefit from these services being commonplace.
Indeed, regular and affordable delivery services are a lifeline to many disabled folks, who don’t always live near a location to get the food and other items they need in their daily lives. Many of us have been ill for an extended period and had to rely on the kindness of friends, family, and Uber Eats to make it through. Imagine if that was your daily reality.
Others note that carrying heavy stuff is basically why the job exists in the first place. While ordering bottled tap water is perhaps a tad ridiculous, people are free to do whatever they want with their own money. The fact that delivery workers need to sometimes lift and move heavy parcels isn’t exactly a secret, it’s a clear and regular part of the job.

I order heavy items for delivery all the time. Why? Because I'm disabled. It makes my life vastly easier if my catlitter, tinned goods, and drinks can show up on my doorstep without having to be lifted in and out of my car, and carried inside on my knees with multiple trips in my wheelchair. Similar reasons apply for anyone elderly, disabled, injured or suffering from fatigue. Sounds like Amazon workers need to unionize and demand rational warehouse locations, package weight limits and such. Maybe 24packs of water should be packaged as 4 six-packs, and kept on the bottom shelf? Don't f**k with the orders BTW - Amazon will just have to replace them, so you'll get another heavy a*s order to pick, plus the first one to restock.

So, yeah, I'll go for a hike in the woods instead and wait for that water/dog food delivery straight to my door.
Normally, I am always on the employees' side but his point of view is so bizarre. If Amazon offers a product online, of cource, it may happen that people order it online (what a surprise!). And does he really not know that there are many people who depend on deliveries because they can not lift/carry heavy objects or because some specific veterinary pet food can not be found anywhere in the stores in their vicinity? Thankfully, here in Germany, we don't depend on Amazon and can order from other online stores.

I'm the person who orders dog food from either Amazon or Chewy. I don't even feel the need to justify my use of a service that is offered by a company, that I pay for. If your job is a delivery person, you have to know that sometimes you'll be asked to lift and deliver heavy items. The job listings always tell interviewees that, and any job seeker with minimal critical thinking skills would assume that heavy items are part of the job. Fwiw, I have patients from both FedEx and DHL and they state emphatically that they don't mind delivering large and/or heavy objects. One guy specifically referenced delivering furniture and just said, "Wayfair uses us, it's part of the job, delivering sofas". They all said that they didn't resent delivering this stuff BUT said making sure your house number is clear, your driveway and entry are clear, and leaving snacks or that dreaded bottled water out for them was really appreciated.
This guy really didn't read the room, but I wouldn't be surprised if many drivers don't have good working conditions. How about the delivery companies provide trolleys for their drivers? Or don't push them so hard? If they are delivering many heavy objects everyday, that could lead to back issues or other injuries.

My heart is not heavy for this idiot. He HIRED IN making $4 per hour more than I was making when I retired after 10 years. $160 per week more than me at HIRE! Folks, items can be delivered to your door by your nearby grocery stores, even Walmart and Target have that option. Often delivery can be scheduled for the same day if you order in the morning and the cost for delivery is around 10 bucks. Price compare, there are better options than Amazon. When I was recovering from emergency surgery getting groceries delivered let me have easy to cook meals and I was grateful to use Target when I needed loose clothing and a new computer mouse.

How long before we can't get food, water, or prescription medicine without a monthly subscription for the "privilege" of purchasing items???

I understand it can be difficult or straight up impossible to go get your heavy groceries yourself, then by all means order inline and have it delivered. But there are a lot of small local businesses that deliver at your door as well, I rather spend a fraction more on my local grocery store than stuffing more cash in Bezos’ pockets.

I worked for the home office during the time preceding and after his death. The work culture QUITE LITERALLY changed overnight. While he was alive, I worked day shift in the accounting department tallying the items being destroyed or sent back to manufacturers due to expiration or damage. Then he passed away. The next work week, over half our department was fired and half of those remaining were switched to second shift (I LOVED second shift). So many other things changed too. Sam Walton was someone who believed in standing behind what he sold. I remember my grandmother had a 10 yo box fan quit working. She took it into Walmart and they exchanged it for the most recent model no questions asked. After Sam died, my aunt caught her foot on a tear in the entry rug and fell on her face and was taken 1/2

The closest pet store to me is 2 1/2 hour’s drive away. The closest grocery store that sells things other than what a convenience store would sell is over 1 hour away. I am lucky, I have a car, but when I got shopping it takes an entire day, and I stock up best I can. If I can’t find what I need, or I need something and am not planning on going to the store in the coming weeks, I’ll order it on Amazon. It’s your job, suck it up or find a new job! I hope he got fired!
My closest pet store is 209km away (2 1/2 hours drive) I am fortunate enough to own a car and be able to go and get my pet food. The closest grocery store that won’t charge me an arm and a leg (here it cost me $14 CAD for a tub of ice cream, and the choices were vanilla, chocolate and Neapolitan) is 110 km away (they’ll just charge me an arm!) If I need pet food, I have to factor that in when I go shopping, those bags are big! My car is not huge, and I may have to cut out some other items from my list to get what I need. Many people don’t have a vehicle, or can’t pick up and carry all the heavy items they need, so they have to rely on someone else to help them. At least if the items are on their doorstep, or at the closest pick up location in their town, it’s a little easier. I hope this guys got (or gets) fired! He needs to find a different job!
When I still had a dog (before he was struck by a hit and run driver) I had to get my dog food and water delivered. I’m disabled and can barely stand without falling even using my cane or walkers. That said, some people have no choice but to get water delivery due to poor water quality (my hometown has so much chlorine in it, it takes my breath away sometimes even in the shower). So people (not Nikki Angulo, you weren’t hating on people over this. I mean others) need to stop showing hate on people over this. And, no. Filters aren’t going to help that. I’ve tried them all and it’s not effective and more expensive than just getting water delivered. I purchased a bottom load water cooler that dispenses from 5 gallon jugs. My driver delivers 4 of these jugs every two to four weeks depending on how much time I spent away from home. These jugs weigh a metric ton to someone like me. Being able to just scooch it across the floor is a God send. How is it they are able to deliver my water?

Well, this guy's a real prize, isn't he? I've been sick for 19 months. I've left my home less than once a month during that time. I order everything on Amazon, Walmart and DoorDash. I work for a delivery company, all the heavy items (wine/beverages, dog food, flatpacks (all 10kg+, often more)) are annoying, but I just suck it up. It needs delivering, and it's a job for me. Far too cushy of a job if you're always delivering just the light (<1kg) packages.
Amazon workers could fix this problem if they unionized. A Union could force Amazon to change the way very heavy orders are handled.

There are 2 sides to this. As an Amazon worker in the US, his work safety is by far much worse than an Amazon worker in Europe. The safety and health issues he have to deal with, along with his coworkers. A European worker is not allowed to lift anything above 25 kilos, and then ONLY very close to his body and with a straight and aligned spine. Not so in the US. And all of you people don't even think about that. There is a reason why working a warehouse in the US is a young mans job if the items are not all lightweight stuff. Why do you think so many former warehouse workers are suffering from spine injuries or wearing down? A single lift every 3 or 4 weeks will not do permanent damage, but think 50 to a hundred times each day, and the picture is somewhat more serious and devastating. That disabled people use this way to their heavy stuff is clear. It goes without saying. But they should also know why it is a problem for the worker because they are already feeling those problems.
And by saying that they should know, I don't imply that disabled people should not order through Amazon. They are disabled and need the help. Period. But common people also need to know this fact, and they might just show a little of that care they are always saying is lacking in society towards the people working at Amazon or other places like it and consider that the worers will be worn down and disabled prematurely because of it. Or is the personal inconvenience too much to ask for 2 or 3 times a month compared with workers getting worn down too soon? I deliver dog food to customers. But here, they order it on pallets even if only for their own dog/s which also carries the benefit of only needing to do it once every several months. It's a win/win to everybody as they also receive a bonus by buying 5 or more sacks each time. Think about that too.

Tried the pick up and she tells me they're out. I didn't go check (couldn't) but being lazy and mad at Walmart wasn't worth the time. We both knew she was full of it.
He is right. Time to diversify. My grocery store delivers, Target and Walmart delivers, and there's even Instacart. I worked for the home office during the time preceding and after his death. The work culture QUITE LITERALLY changed overnight. While he was alive, I worked day shift in the accounting department tallying the items being destroyed or sent back to manufacturers due to expiration or damage. Then he passed away. The next work week, over half our department was fired and half of those remaining were switched to second shift (I LOVED second shift). So many other things changed too. No sympathy at all for this man. He says he's a trainer, so sits on his **s all day, his words. Was picking up extra hours so had to pick items. Well boo hoo, he looks young enough so lifting cases of water and dog food shouldn't be that difficult for a healthy young man. If he doesn't like the lifting he should find a different job. I mean he signed on to work in an Amazon warehouse. It's not all cases of cotton balls!

Hey Bro, I can't lift the bag of dog food my dogs require. More than that, they have a specific food they HAVE to eat, otherwise I pay thousands in Vet bills. It HAS to be a specific food. Guess who is 1 of only 2 suppliers of this food? (I've tried Chewy. They chronically send me the wrong food, even after I call and talk to someone in person. Literally. Every. Time. Dawg.). If you hate doing the work your job asks you to do, or you believe you're above it - QUIT and FIND A NEW JOB. Newsflash: selling online and shipping to the customer is LITERALLY ALL Amazon does. THAT is the job. The closest pet store to me is 2 1/2 hour’s drive away. The closest grocery store that sells things other than what a convenience store would sell is over 1 hour away. I am lucky, I have a car, but when I got shopping it takes an entire day, and I stock up best I can. If I can’t find what I need, or I need something and am not planning on going to the store in the coming weeks, I’ll order it on Amazon. It’s your job, suck it up or find a new job! I hope he got fired!
My closest pet store is 209km away (2 1/2 hours drive) I am fortunate enough to own a car and be able to go and get my pet food. The closest grocery store that won’t charge me an arm and a leg (here it cost me $14 CAD for a tub of ice cream, and the choices were vanilla, chocolate and Neapolitan) is 110 km away (they’ll just charge me an arm!) If I need pet food, I have to factor that in when I go shopping, those bags are big! My car is not huge, and I may have to cut out some other items from my list to get what I need. Many people don’t have a vehicle, or can’t pick up and carry all the heavy items they need, so they have to rely on someone else to help them. At least if the items are on their doorstep, or at the closest pick up location in their town, it’s a little easier. I hope this guys got (or gets) fired! He needs to find a different job!
When I still had a dog (before he was struck by a hit and run driver) I had to get my dog food and water delivered. I’m disabled and can barely stand without falling even using my cane or walkers. That said, some people have no choice but to get water delivery due to poor water quality (my hometown has so much chlorine in it, it takes my breath away sometimes even in the shower). So people (not Nikki Angulo, you weren’t hating on people over this. I mean others) need to stop showing hate on people over this. And, no. Filters aren’t going to help that. I’ve tried them all and it’s not effective and more expensive than just getting water delivered. I purchased a bottom load water cooler that dispenses from 5 gallon jugs. My driver delivers 4 of these jugs every two to four weeks depending on how much time I spent away from home. These jugs weigh a metric ton to someone like me. Being able to just scooch it across the floor is a God send. How is it they are able to deliver my water?

Well, this guy's a real prize, isn't he? I've been sick for 19 months. I've left my home less than once a month during that time. I order everything on Amazon, Walmart and DoorDash. It's not how I want to live, but it's unavoidable rn. This guy needs to spend a day in my shoes, find some empathy/understanding and stop seeing the entirety of life on earth through the very limited filter of his own experience limiteexexperiences.

I work for a delivery company, all the heavy items (wine/beverages, dog food, flatpacks (all 10kg+, often more)) are annoying, but I just suck it up. It needs delivering, and it's a job for me. Far too cushy of a job if you're always delivering just the light (<1kg) packages.
Amazon workers could fix this problem if they unionized. A Union could force Amazon to change the way very heavy orders are handled.

There are 2 sides to this. As an Amazon worker in the US, his work safety is by far much worse than an Amazon worker in Europe. The safety and health issues he have to deal with, along with his coworkers. A European worker is not allowed to lift anything above 25 kilos, and then ONLY very close to his body and with a straight and aligned spine. Not so in the US. And all of you people don't even think about that. There is a reason why working a warehouse in the US is a young mans job if the items are not all lightweight stuff. Why do you think so many former warehouse workers are suffering from spine injuries or wearing down? A single lift every 3 or 4 weeks will not do permanent damage, but think 50 to a hundred times each day, and the picture is somewhat more serious and devastating. That disabled people use this way to their heavy stuff is clear. It goes without saying. But they should also know why it is a problem for the worker because they are already feeling those problems.
And by saying that they should know, I don't imply that disabled people should not order through Amazon. They are disabled and need the help. Period. But common people also need to know this fact, and they might just show a little of that care they are always saying is lacking in society towards the people working at Amazon or other places like it and consider that the worers will be worn down and disabled prematurely because of it. Or is the personal inconvenience too much to ask for 2 or 3 times a month compared with workers getting worn down too soon? I deliver dog food to customers. But here, they order it on pallets even if only for their own dog/s which also carries the benefit of only needing to do it once every several months. It's a win/win to everybody as they also receive a bonus by buying 5 or more sacks each time. Think about that too.

Tried the pick up and she tells me they're out. I didn't go check (couldn't) but being lazy and mad at Walmart wasn't worth the time. We both knew she was full of it.
He is right. Time to diversify. My grocery store delivers, Target and Walmart delivers, and there's even Instacart. I don't see the point in putting more money into some billionaire's pocket, especially when he pays his employees next to nothing. Amazon employees are often underpaid and overworked. And to add insult to injury, our taxes end up covering their medical insurance and provide food stamps. It's like we're indirectly subsidizing their profits while Bezos exploit Amazon workers. It's time to support businesses that treat their employees better.
