“Should Be A Crime”: 89 Images That Say A Lot About Life In The United States Today
If you’re living outside the United States, your frame of reference for life on the ground is what you see in the news. Most of it will likely revolve around political division and immigration-related issues that seem to be getting more problematic over time.
What you’re not seeing are the daily experiences of regular folks. You may not have a firsthand look at their struggles with rising costs, different forms of discrimination, and societal changes that may make life in America feel like a dystopian movie.
Here are some examples through images shared by the citizens bearing the brunt of it all.

"Letting The Cat Out Of The Bag"
One reason people may feel like America has turned into a dystopian movie is rising grocery prices. Many people have struggled to buy the bare necessities because of food costs.
According to an AP News report in June, food prices have risen 33% in the last six years.

If You See Someone Stealing Food... No You Didn't

RIGHT, nothing to see there , I do not approve of stealing what so ever ,but times like that clearly needs must, long as it’s very clearly only a weeks worth or one or two tins and not the organised crews that shop to order to make money ,then you speak up, (easy to work out they steal entire shelf loads at a time ,)

The report also revealed more alarming data, including Texas beef prices. As AP notes, Texas has been the country’s top beef producer. However, as of June, the price of ground beef reached $6.82 per pound.
For context, it is 79% higher than it was at the beginning of 2019, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Mild inflation is largely an indicator of a healthy, growing economy. Because consumers and businesses feel more confident spending money, prices rise. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a stable inflation rate is 2%.
However, higher inflation rates in recent months have become a burden for most working-class Americans. According to an AP report at the beginning of this month, consumer prices rose as much as 3.4% as of August.

In other words, they don't want you to share your car among family members, they should each have their own car.
What hurts many Americans is that as inflation rises, unemployment is climbing too. To add insult to injury, mortgage prices are rising too.
For context, the average long-term mortgage rate is currently 7.28%, up from 6.34% last year. Meanwhile, federal, state, and local governments eliminated 17,000 jobs in September, pushing the unemployment rate to 4.2%, up slightly from 4.1% in August.

These images alone may give a certain impression of what life in America is like today. While they tell only part of the story, they can also make someone ask, “When did this all become normal?”
As bleak as things may seem, here’s hoping a thriving country like the United States doesn't turn fully dystopian, as some may fear.

Covenant House is quite content to put kids back on the street, as long as thet are at capacity on the days they have to report for funding calculations. They are especially fond of summarily discharging LGBTQIA2S kids, kids who aren't part of a mainstream Christian denomination, and young women who have had or are planning to have an abortion.

California's minimum wage is $16.90 per hour. I would have to work 9 hours to be able to fill the tank in my vehicle :( - note that the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. California's cost of living is so ridiculous; that's why our minimum wage is so high. It's no utopia here.

Policemen are trained to fire a gun as an intrinsic part of their profession and are required to practice their accuracy regularly. Still, they average only a 25-30% accuracy. Assuming (falsely) that teachers would equal this, a 25% accuracy rate in a crowded room means that the teacher might shoot three students before they got the gunman.

Yeah my American second cousin is a doctor, she joined the military and they paid all her tuition, she married another military doctor. They act like they're better than everyone and are very judgemental to people who didn't go to college despite the fact that neither would never have been able to afford it had they not joined the military. They're also they type who demand respect (and discounts) because of their ties to the military despite neither ever actually serving in combat.

America needs bashing for its own sake. Pretending otherwise does a disservice to the Americans who deserve better. It's not going to improve if everyone sits around sipping their coffee declaring "this is fine" while everything implodes.
