Every animal deserves endless love and snuggles. If I were the president, that would be the first law I’d implement. Sadly, the reality is that many fur balls end up in shelters, waiting for their second chance at becoming a new member of a loving family. The good news is that the majority of them get their happy ending, and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it. To increase animals’ chances of adoption and show how rewarding it can be, we are sharing the pets that were rescued from shelters this August. Scroll down to see them for yourself, and don’t be shy to shower them with virtual love—there’s no such thing as too much of it!

Freshly Adopted Senior Void
Adopted A 10 Yr Old Lil Siamese Girl Cat, And She Is Perfect!
New Member Of The Family
I would call them Tapper, for tippy tapping along on them tiny white toes!
OP: "Adopted this litter guy earlier this month. His name is Mr. Giyu named after a character from Demon Slayer. My 9year old cat is starting to tolerate his craziness more so things are going well. He does dropkick her from time to time, so we put him in timeout whenever he gets too aggressive."
I will require sashimi, salmon (Pacific or Scottish) or tuna (Blue Fin), a saucer of your finest cream and for afters about 500 g of your best 'nip. Go now, and hurry back. I will call for praise and worship later to be followed by skritches between the ears and under the chin
It goes without saying that nothing compares to a permanent home with a loving human. However, a shelter isn’t the absolute worst place an animal can end up, despite many having quite a different opinion.
A lot of pets come to rescue centers from abusive households, dangerous streets, and even more unimaginable conditions. Strays that are often malnourished, injured, disabled, matted, and caked in dirt receive the help they need and are given refuge, food, water, and medical care after being brought to a shelter.
Millions of animals depend on shelters for fresh water, food, and medications. Staff and volunteers start each day by checking on all the animals, providing them with exercise, cleaning their enclosures, and ensuring they’re fed.
The Dog I Was Going To Adopt vs. The Dog I Actually Adopted
Back in April I went to a local animal control to adopt the dog in the first picture. Her name was Mushu. She was a 6 month old German Shepard but she had a lot of people interested in her because of her age. I had the animal control officer show me the other dogs they had and that’s when I found my boy. The name they had given him was Seymour. He was found wandering in a graveyard and severely underweight. He had been in the pound for a month. I fell in love with him as soon as I met him. I brought him home the next day and it was the best decision I ever made. His name is now Max and he has my heart ❤️
It was destiny! An angel decided to bring you together for the better.
I love German Shepherds! They are so intelligent and wise. They offset that by being goofy.
My Newly Adopted Cat
WOW just WOW just WOW WOW WOW truly the most unusual-looking cat I have ever seen & I'm a cat lady!!! 😸😽😺
Just Adopted This Old Guy
Adopted seniors make the best pets. You skip all that baby silliness and go straight to being best friends.
Animals are also provided with extra veterinary care, like sterilization, vaccination, and worm and parasite treatments to prevent the spread of any disease throughout. As pets come and go, they have to process intakes and adoptions as well.
Those organizations that are lucky to have more hands do their best to improve animals’ chances of adoption by posting them online and telling people all about them.
Some more successful shelters go even further and educate the public about adoption and the importance of sterilization, vaccinations, and other animal-related matters, all while making their organization appear friendly, so people are more eager to adopt.
I’ve Never Owned A Cat. Never Lived With A Cat, But Adopted Her
OP: "I don’t know her full story, but she was down an eye as of earlier this year, and spent several months with a foster before I moved cross country and picked her up! It’s been a learning experience, but I she’s the most cuddly and sweet cat I have ever seen. I guess I’m a cat dad now."
You don't own animals, you are their caregivers. And you are lucky for it.
I’m Adopting Him 🥹
Did that with my Stevie. Walked in on an adoption weekend at petsmart to get a couple new fish. Came out with new fish but also the goodest bestest tabby ever
OP: "I began fostering this lil guy named Skyrim on Sunday. He would growl/hiss at me and my other cats but wouldn’t make a move to bite or scratch. I’d chalk it up to fear since he’s only 4-ish months old. He tries hard to be angry about being held but he melts into a purrbox as soon as you love on him 🥹🥹🥹 I’m naming him Skrimp when I adopt him (after the shelter vet can neuter him) because he sleeps like a shrimp"
Bella Is Gorgeous!
Guaranteed GSD DNA with those ears XD one of my boys is a German Shepherd/Kuchi Dog mix (livestock guardian breed) and his ears do the exact same thing XD
Load More Replies...OP: "Behold.. one of the most interesting GSD mixes I’ve ever seen — Bella! Who can resist those cute bunny ears and her big happy smile? She looks like a cartoon character! She is sooooo soft and such a sweetheart. I wanted to share this special soul as I know you all would appreciate 💛 She is available for adoption at the Santa Barbara County Animal Services in Goleta (5473 Overpass Rd) https://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=SNBR.A504429
AAHHHHH Santa Barbara is only about two and a half hours' drive north of where I live XD I can TOTALLY handle owning 3 dogs and 6 cats, right? >_>;
Load More Replies...A blond dog that looks a lot like this adopted my son's family (showed up on their lawn and wouldn't leave). They're going to get a DNA test on her because they're curious about her origins. Shepherd and ???
This takes a lot of hard work, not only physically but also emotionally. The people who take care of these animals see a lot of devastating sights, whether that’s limited funds, a new pet that has come in, or a furry creature that is destined to spend its last days in its enclosure. Shelters’ staff put a grueling effort into caring for the welfare of animals, and sadly, many people aren’t aware of it.
Just Adopted This Lil Guy. Definitely Need Some Advice
Use some tactile toys and touch with paws, as is comfortable. Put a play rug down on the floor for your time with this sweet one. Voice is going to be important as well as touch trust. Always tell the cat what you are doing when you are guiding. If you want them to know water, tap their paw in it. Use as much sensory communication as you can, but don't over do it. If the cat responds to a couple of them, use those and build on it. My best to you and the feline household. :)
Thank you for all of the upvotes. Obviously I'm a cat lover, but I posted this because I was seated next to a blind girl in 5th grade. I learned a lot from Kelley. Learning alongside a person who is blind teaches you a new universe. I encourage everyone here to endeavor to work with people who have issues. They have so much to teach you.
Load More Replies...Give them some sound landmarks, like a water fountain in one room, and a ticking clock in another, it will help them orient themselves in their new environment.
Thank OP for giving this poor creature a chance to be in a loving family. God bless you.
The only advice you're going to need is working out which cat food he likes! You've already adopted him, he knows you care.
Blind cats can do anything a sighted cat can do. As long as furniture is not moved, they will know the layout very quickly. My friend runs a cat sanctuary in Arkansas and she uses crinkle and jingle toys. Remember, cats use their whiskers to figure out where things are and how big things are.
OP: "So I adopted this 13 week old kitten. He’s the sweetest social guy. I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on letting him get to know his surroundings. My plan is that I have him in a larger bathroom that connects to my bedroom. I was going to keep him in the bathroom so he can memorize/decompress for about 3 days until I let him in to my bedroom so he can memorize that. (And so on and so forth about the house) I have stairs too. How should I go about that? I’m just wondering if that sounds about right? Also I’m trying to take it super slow because I am trying to slowly introduce my other cat to him, who is mot exactly thrilled he’s here. Doing all the treating and soon to be scent swapping. Thank you so much for any blind kitten advice you’d like to share!"
My Heart Won
I Feel So Lucky To Be Her Mom
Especially cause she has that divine light coming out of her head!
OP: "I just reconnected with my girl’s foster mom and it reminded me of how lucky I am to be her mama. We rescued our girl in 2019 and I went and soaked up every bit of info about her before I met her. She had been found as a stray and the animal shelter Facebook page where they posted her stay hold photos was flooded with adoption inquiries for her. She was sprung from jail by a local lab rescue where they received another flood of adoption inquiries and applications for her. She ended up going to a home where she was an only dogo and she was terrified. She was so scared she couldn’t eat, drink, or go potty for an entire day. She just trembled for 24 hours. After she was returned to the rescue they reached out to me because I was the only applicant for her that already had a dog that could be her sibling and show her that the home was safe and make her comfortable." (Cont.)
Cont: "When we’re able to, we bring her to friends houses and family member’s homes. She’s so calm and reserved that we receive so many comments from friends and family that they wish she was their dog, or that if anything happens to us they would love to take her. My parents have said they wish they adopted my dog instead of theirs. We have a friend who got a hunting dog as a puppy who failed the training and he’s said our girl would be much better at hunting than his and he would love to take her. We also have a friend who trusts our girl more around her kids than their own dogs. Also when we adopted her, her foster mom said if we ever couldn’t keep her or didn’t want her anymore she would take her back in a heart beat and keep her. This girl is precious to us. The only way we’re giving her up is if my husband and I are both dead .I just feel so lucky that we were chosen and trusted to care for her and protect her. I’m sure everyone in this group feels the same about their pup."
Load More Replies...In fact, some people still imagine shelters to be inhumane sanctuaries where animals receive little to no medical care and face a fatal end if not adopted or retrieved by their owners. While, unfortunately, some shelters horribly mistreat animals, the majority of them have immensely evolved over the years, even with tight budgets and an overflow of stray pets. What’s truly amazing is that in the US, animal shelters are becoming closer than ever to achieving a no-k**l status.
We Adopted A Cat For Our Cat, It's Going Pretty Well
now you soon need to adopt a cat for the new cat, so the new cat doesn't feel left out then repeat for ever
I want to get another cat, but must respect the wishes of my FlabbyTabby. She lives here, too, and she misses if she sees or even smells the cats from across the hall.
My Newly Adopted Tripod
An adorable orange baby! Sadly, upon reading the OP's story, this three legged baby has been MIA since August 10th.
Using household pets for training fighting dogs is a criminal offense in the US. If you know anyone who is doing this please gather evidence and contact your local animal control office and police department. They often rent short term and breed in garages in large apartment complexes in the south, a lot in texas. Report to landlord, police and animal control.
Adopted A Cat, Discovered She Was Pregnant, Now I Have Kittens!
you know what they say everything comes in groups of three (money for the cat, the cat, kittens)
No-k**l is a community committed to saving every pet in a shelter that can be saved. Almost 2 out of 3 shelters in the US currently have the no-k**l status, which means that they rescue at least 90% of animals that enter their facilities from a fatal end. Over the last eight years, there’s been a 60% drop in the number of pets that are euthanized in the United States.
"We are now at a time where the 90 percent or above benchmark for shelters to be no-k**l is not only widely accepted but has also become the new normal. Nearly two out of three shelters are achieving this lifesaving goal," said Julie Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society (BFAS).
I Still Can't Believe I Got Him Half Off
I adopted my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel from a shelter. I know crazy right? What's even crazier is I got him 50% off because it was sprinkling and where I live the county animal shelters do 50% off on rainy days.
You pay for animals when you adopt them from the shelter? In Poland you don't pay, and still there are so many left...
It's a fee to help the shelters keep running/taking care of the animals/etc.
Load More Replies...I adopted a dog and she was so awful to the staff that I got her for free. I love her so much. Should probably mention that she's a chihuahua lol.
I got my cat for free because the owner wouldn't take her back after the trial period. I wasn't sure if I should keep her because she is a FlabbyTabby and I didn't know what kind of medical issues this would bring, but I got hooked on her and kept her even after the owner offered to take her to the shelter.
New Kitten!
That dark spot on the nose and the different makeup on the eyes makes this beauty look just that wonderfully bit off kilter. Love!!
OP: "He’s about 3 months old- his exact age is unknown as he was found on the side of the road with a broken leg. When I went to the vets with my dog, he was in a cage with an adoption sign, so I had to take him! I’ve been searching online for months for the right cat, but I could never find the “one”. As soon as I saw him, I knew I’ve found my cat. He’s getting picked up this thursday, and I’m naming him Kminek (polish for cumin)"
This Is Juno And I Thought You Should Meet Her
Her owner got a DNA breed test on her, and she's 30% Belgian Malinois, 30% German Shepherd, and 30% AmStaff. Owner is in for a ride (I have a Malinois and a German Shepherd mix) but an absolute friend for LIFE. XD

There is a body under that blanket. Likely an owner on a prank.
Load More Replies...To help shelters reach no-k**l nationwide, we can also do our part by continuing to adopt, foster, volunteer, donate, or even share the pets from local shelters on social media.
"The shelters do not have the resources to help with special cases, which is why partnership with animal rescue groups and the community is so important and critical to pet lifesaving,” Castle explained.

It’s important that we help shelters, as without them, it’s very likely that more abandoned animals would suffer from injuries, starvation, illness, and death. Chances are that without sterilizing the strays, the job that shelters do, we would also face an overpopulation of animals forced to live on the streets.

My Cat Adopted This Feral Void Kitten. She’s The Only One Allowed To Pet Her
Even if there are a few spoiled apples in the bunch, most shelters are doing their best to provide the care that animals need.
If you’re currently thinking about getting a pet, please consider adopting one. A lot of shelters are overflowing with adorable fur balls that want nothing more than the warmth and safety of their human. You can be their happily ever after, and in return, you get a companion and a friend who will shower you with unconditional love.

Dr. Mouse Shall See You Now!
Tuxedos are my first love and my forever favorite color/pattern, but my heart belonged to a gorgeous gray girl for almost 20 years. She was my best friend. Her name was Wintressia. She died in 2018, but her pawprints are forever on my heart and in my life. I have a little shrine above my bed with her ashes and the ashes of her BFF, my German Shepherd, Ember - they were the same age and they grew up together, but Ember died aged 12 in 2010, of cancer. Win grieved terribly for a long time, and she and I helped each other through the mourning period. Win died two months shy of her 20th birthday. hearth_cat...78eec6.jpg
Here's the shrine (a Japanese-style butsudan.) There are photos of Win and artworks I had commissioned of her, her collar tag ("Senior Kitizen"), and a little statue of a German Shepherd to represent Ember. Win's favorite bowl is off to the right side, as are the wooden boxes containing her ashes and Ember's. wintressia...bef94d.jpg

I am going to have to argue with you on this one. My most intelligent and playful feline was my Orangie. He would invent new games, new places to sleep. He invented the knee hammock so I could put my laptop on top of him while I was looking for work. Never underestimate an Orangie.
