"I Do Whatever I Want Because I Want To, Not Because I Have To": $7M Lottery Winner Tells All
How many of us have fantasized about winning the lottery? Some, I imagine, think about all the things they would buy. Others, perhaps, are more wary of it, viewing it as a curse, remembering Hurley's fate from the 2004 hit show Lost.
The chances of winning a lottery are slimmer than being struck by lightning. Yet people still buy lottery tickets every week and hope that it's their lucky chance. Some do win, and, contrary to popular belief, only a minority go broke. There's a false statistic going around that 70% of lottery winners go bankrupt after a few years. In reality, a lot of those lucky people manage their finances well enough to build a comfortable life.
One of those lucky people, a netizen under the username u/SingleFinance1258, recently did an "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) on Reddit and shared what life has been like a year after their win. 300K on college funds, ugh :-( edit: I misunderstood. The 300k was money he set aside so his sister and cousins could go to college. That's awesome!

I remember watching a documentary about lottery winners where this guy won millions, or something like that. If I recall correctly, he choose not to invest in the stock market. Instead, he just put it all in a savings account and simply lived off the monthly interest accumulated, which turned out to be $20,000 or so.

Did the person who wrote the article not also made the title? " $7M Lottery Winner Reveals The Unexpected Downsides Of Sudden Wealth " Or did I miss the part where he mentions unexpected downsides?

So far as I can tell the only downside is that there aren't any downsides.

If I won the lottery I wouldn't tell anybody. Depending on the amount, I'd quit my job and travel gor at least a year. I'd also buy some properties and make sure to get an EU passport (s***w all you people that voted to exit). Once I'd gotten my fill of enjoying my leisurely lifestyle, I'd then think about what sort of work I'd want to do.
