Woman Refuses To Shave Moustache Or Unibrow And Instead Embraces It

A bit over a year ago, a Danish woman from Copenhagen made a decision to not shave her face anymore. Eldina Jaganjac, a 31-year-old tutor from Denmark, decided to defy society’s standards of beauty by going boldly against them. She became more and more frustrated by the expectations that were laid upon women in this age, even more so when it came to men who could just freely go around without the fear of being judged and without touching a single hair on their own bodies.

Jaganjac dropped all the formalities when she decided to completely stop plucking her eyebrows and upper lip hair back in March of 2020, and soon realized that it made no difference to how she felt, as she found herself feeling just as feminine regardless of the “extra” hair on her body.

Of course, her Frida Kahlo-inspired looks didn’t go unnoticed outside of her house, as unfortunately, she had to deal with various rude men on the streets of Denmark

Though Eldina isn’t overly concerned about her looks overall, she had to deal with occasional comments such as “pluck that” or with people just rudely staring at her eyebrows as if she had a “third head”

However, soon enough, Eldina found that sporting a unibrow and additional facial hair might’ve been a blessing in disguise as it helped her to “weed out” “conservative” people she wouldn’t want to be around anyway, as most of them are immediately put off by her unique looks

The Denmark-based tutor thinks that her unibrow and facial hair allowed her to select people who weren’t concerned about her looks and wanted to know her as a person

Here’s what Eldina told Tyla magazine about the way other people handled her recent change in looks: “The reaction is actually almost completely positive, but I am sure that there are some negative comments behind my back, but I don’t really care about that”

“I have noticed a few grown men stare at my unshaven legs and my eyebrows like I had a third head”

“If anything, I get more positive attention and I get to weed out the more conservative people from the beginning”

Jaganjac also told Tyla magazine that she felt tired of policing herself all the time to fit in with the beauty standards that were placed upon women

“I used to feel less feminine because of my rather voluminous eyebrows”

“Growing up, I noticed that I was considered a brute when my body hair first started to grow as a teenager”

Eldina also told Tyla magazine that: “I noticed most girls around me panicking around the age of thirteen to fourteen and starting to shave and pluck anything pluckable because they wanted to be accepted as female and tried to fit into their new role as a young woman.

Before I let my unibrow grow out, I did feel like there were extremely limited options to how women were supposed to look.

Compared to men, we are expected to spend much more time and money on our looks just to be deemed visually acceptable in society, especially when you are in public spaces.

If a man doesn’t shave and doesn’t pluck his eyebrows, no one notices or comments and it’s nothing out of the ordinary.

Just like many other women, I have learned to police myself. For instance, I used to not feel comfortable going outside unless my eyebrows were the accepted small size, and I wouldn’t go to the gym unless my legs were clean-shaven.

Now, I’ve chosen to focus on the tasks and goals that I need to have done and less on how I appear while doing them and whether people like me or not, because I probably won’t ever see them again, and if I do, I still don’t care.”

I'm going to be brutally honest, I admire her for doing it but I don't think its a good look, if I left all my facial hair to grow wildly it wouldn't be a good look either. She does look a bit like Frida Kahlo though.

Good for her! Remember, she isn't here to please you. What you think doesn't matter. Women (or men) shouldn't have to pluck their hairs, wear makeup if they don't care to. We do not owe to the society to look beautiful, attractive, neat or even acceptable. The only thing that should be required is to keep one hygiene so that they don't smell, and all other things are up to you.

I'm female and have quite thicc eyebrows and a line of hair above my top lip that's so thin it's barely noticeable, but some observant fools (who were all male) have pointed it out and mocked it and said that it made me "unattractive". I have always just responded to them by saying that I am not trying to attract anyone, which is true.

I feel very touched by this. I gave up plucking my eyebrowes the day my second doughter plopped out with giant black eyebrowes and I felt it was wrong, teaching her that tiny eyebrowes were better than what she was born with. It made actually totally NO noticeable difference. On the other hand I always ever wanted a moustache(the feeling of stroking one?), since I was a girl and the pictures still left me gaping. Why is it so tough to enjoy onself without makung us blending into soceity. As becoming looking like nobody individual would be a purpose for itself. Leaves me pondering.

She looks fierce, and she is bloody gorgeous. It's always so funny to me how men assume that all women care about being attractive to them, and make comments about our bodies and faces as if it's any of their business.

The Frida Kahlo look, I like it! And she would have been considered a great beauty in ancient Greece. They used to glue hair in between their eyebrows because that was hot back then -- I kid you not.

You can only do what makes you happy. I don't think you should be ashamed, you are made the way you are. Most women are probably far hairier than the face they present to the world. It's sad that we feel this way about what is natural. More tolerance would be good and we should all aim to be part of that but don't feel you are responsible for it either.

And that’s what makes this nonsense. Because she is “actually quite pretty” and just has hair on top. If she were regular or had an asymmetrical face, a wonky jaw or wrinkles on her forehead / crows feet, you wouldn’t be giving her a pass. You gave her a pass because she’s “actually quite pretty.”

She's gorgeous, hands down. Unqualified statement. And no, I don't have a hair fetish or something - I'm just a normal middle aged dude that wonders what all the fuss is about so far as women being expected to shave the majority of their bodies. Doesn't bother me in the least when my wife doesn't shave her legs and I'm glad she's finally come to believe me and doesn't fret about it any more.

She can do whatever she wants. You wouldn’t go up to someone with a tattoo and say they look bad and would be better without it. Some people tattoo themselves for attention but mostly they do it as a form of self expression which is none of our concern.

i wish i had brows! even a unibrow. g-d had a sense of humor when it came to body hair and me because i have hair where is shouldn't belong and no hair where it should. my brows are actually 'half-brows' as they go up to an arch but then...nothing. imagine mr. spock or a constant state of surprise look. however, in my youth i had enough hair on my legs to weave 17 blankets. at least, with age, things have gotten better but still no brows.

Well then don't complain if unjust things happen. I disagree with such things but our society just isn't there yet. We still place our judgement, probably too much, based on a person's appearance. I don't know if it's just me, but dressing differently could mean being ignored by businesses or getting top notch service. It's sad and wrong in my eyes but it is what it is.

I feel like everyone should make their own decisions about their bodies. That being said, I don't think that finding her facial and body hair off putting makes anyone a bad person. I can dislike someone's haircut, clothes, and/or shoes without being a mean or judgemental person. The point where my personal opinion becomes hurtful to the other person is where there is a problem. I honestly think her calling people who don't like it "more conservative" is just as judgemental. It's an interesting choice of terms because I don't think disliking her choice is a negative about the other person. Again, unless they are hurtful towards her it's only a matter of opinion. It makes me wonder, is she really just looking for validation?? She did end up doing multiple interviews with magazines based on this choice.

Rofl, standards of beauty have been around for millennia. As long as humans have been around - hence clothing. Maybe she should shed that too? Egyptians plucked hair and wore makeup, chinese, american indians, etc..... Sure, conservatives may be more attractive, but now they are the arbiters of beauty?

It is a little shocking but then I check myself and wonder why I feel like that. When I was younger it was commonplace for women to have 'sideburns' and hairy arms. No one batted an eye. But this ha become socially unacceptable. We are expected to be completely hairless - and don't even get me started about shaving 'down below'!!

Shaving isn't the best way to deal with that anyway. I started growing facial hair after menopause and bought a waxing kit from the drugstore, the kind with the tiny strips. After doing that for about 10 years, the hair comes in so fine you can barely see it.

She looks very offputting. humans, like many creatures strive to be more attractive to the opposite sex. Its natural and promotes the proliferation of our species. She is not maintaining her eyebrows and mustache to rage against modern beauty standards, she is probably doing it because she enjoys the attention she gets for her "bravery" yet she wears make up, has earrings, probably wears nice dresses on occasion, maybe carries a nice purse. All things that people subconsciously or consciously do to appeal to societal beauty standards. Its nature and there is nothing wrong with it.

How ironic that last part of your comment is. Her hair is natural, too. As natural as it gets. And there is nothing wrong with it. She accepts herself, and her hair is part of that. How odd that men always think that women do everything for their attention. She clearly isn't thinking about men's attention, and why should she? So many more important things to think about. As for fashion choices, makeup, etc., women are doing that for ourselves and each other. Not men. We dress to please ourselves and our fellow women. Let that one sink in for awhile.

What is it with feminists always finding the stupidest things to posture about? Men also get judged on their looks, usually by hypocritical feminists who decry "body shaming" but have no problem body shaming men. Most men shave and those that don't are often referred to as "neckbeards" by self - described feminists. This comment thread is as ridiculous as it is stupid. If she doesn't want to shave, fine but this isn't some grand victory for women everywhere.

Beauty has been scientifically studied. Symmetrical features are a big part of beauty. The right and Left side must be groomed to appear symmetrical. If it is natural, even better. Why are we evolved to see symmetry as beauty? It shows genetic soundness. Fitness and natural beauty show genetic soundness. We pick up on it, and find it desirable on a subconscious level. Preferences beyond symmetry and fitness are fashion trends and culture, and are superfluous.

If anything I'm worried about her, excess facial and body hair might be the symptome of PCOS, which is not a joke. Or in the best case scenario some other hormonal disorder. It's very dangerous to ignore these things because of self-acceptance. I hope she's okay.

I mean, men who stop shaving their faces and grow beards down to their lap get funny looks, too. And plenty of people don't think long, untrimmed beards look good. It's no different for the men than it is for her. Same goes for men with thick unibrows.

Like men are the only ones who look at her. I admit I don't have an an answer or complete opinion about this: on one hand I admit people should have the freedom to do what they feel comfortable doing, but n the other hand I admit that we live in a society and it might be very hard to do that and in the end she might get hurt, and also it might be off-putting to others.

I think she's very beautiful and very brave, when you consider the eco-price of billions-upon-billions of shaves, depilations and waxings (and the production of the associated paraphernalia and equipment), we will have to go down the more hair root and than means shallow men and posy women getting educated unto what we actually look like!

That's her right and nobody can tell her what to do. Personally, I don't find this attractive, not because of society's beauty standards but of my own. However, I would not presume to tell her to shave just to please my stranger's eye. She has no obligation to visually appeal to anybody.

Because people judge others all the time on their outward appearance. I agree they shouldn't but we can't ignore reality. We can only do our best not to join in with it. One place I worked there was a little child, multiple disabilities, not the typical cute that people coo over and my colleague was 'ugh, look at that'. That little girl broke my heart quite frankly. My loathsome colleague didn't see how she was laughing and the way it lit up her little face.

You only think that because your 'normal' is shaved. But that's not actually normal. It's a societal expectation that is reinforced in media etc, even in these comments. It doesn't look any more horrible than dark skin or anything else that is just a natural product of our bodies existing. Just because you think it looks abnormal doesn't mean it looks bad.

C'mon. What is wrong with adhering to societal standards of beauty? Especially if they are not that demanding. I can understand not wanting to shave one's legs all the time. But the face? She could have the hair removed easily and permanently. What will she do next? Forego standards of hygiene?

So, you're going to go out of your way to offend others who have to breathe in your stink molecules? Just admit you already don't bother to wash your ass, and go. No need to make up all these fancy excuses. Also, when it comes to people's appearance, it IS all about them, and is actually none of your business. If you're personally offended by a woman who doesn't give a rat's ass that you don't find her attractive, might be time to take a deep look inside your head.

Well. Great. I think it’s ugly, but I would never tell her that, because it’s none of my business. She’s not going to change our perception of beauty though.

Shaving isn't the best way to deal with that anyway. I started growing facial hair after menopause and bought a waxing kit from the drugstore, the kind with the tiny strips. After doing that for about 10 years, the hair comes in so fine you can barely see it.

Oh look, an adult mammal. Good for her, good for everyone! Hopefully after all the lockdowns, many women will be free of the razors. Unless they enjoy the way it looks and feels for themselves, then, do what ya do!

I respect her decision. She has every right to look the way she wants to, but I reserve every right not to like it. But I'm sure some one else, that matters, will like it, and that's the only thing that counts.

Sorry, but you look like a circus side show barker. I notice you are wearing lipstick and make-up. Why? If you are trying to look nicer, shave the stash and brow. Even a man looks dumb with a uni-brow.

I can honestly say, I appreciate the fact that she’s doing this. It’s an easy way for a guy to weed out the aspiring serial killers from the relatively normal women. More should try it.

Any straight guy that likes the feel of the mustache on his lips when kissing a woman on the mouth, leave a like below... I fully realize she's growing out her hair purely based on her own desires...of being single.

C'mon. What is wrong with adhering to societal standards of beauty? Especially if they are not that demanding. I can understand not wanting to shave one's legs all the time. But the face? She could have the hair removed easily and permanently. What will she do next? Forego standards of hygiene?

I'm gonna stop showering and brushing my teeth just to appeal to the hygiene standards of society. Because it's all about me. I expect people not to judge me or stand far away from me just because of how I smell.
