This makes me proud and happy for this man like it made me when like twenty years ago my then 80 year old grandma leaned to use a computer and write emails (with zero knowledge before). I hope I will be able to try and learn new stuff when older or at least will still learn to play new boardgames or so

This Lovely Gentleman Came In Today To Learn How To Curl His Wife’s Hair

This Lovely Gentleman Came In Today To Learn How To Curl His Wife’s Hair

His wife is unable to curl her own hair and often burns herself, so he stepped up to the plate and learned how to curl her hair. We had the pleasure of teaching him! We taught him how to do volume curls on short hair, how to protect her skin from being burned and we even taught him to put on her mascara.

This reminds me of another post I saw here awhile back. A black woman was approached by a white woman in the hair aisle, and wanted to ask a "non-offensive" question. The black woman, who was the OP, wrote how non-offensive questions always are, but she decided to be polite. Turned out the white woman (and her husband) had adopted a black girl, and they had no idea how to take care of the child's hair. So the black lady gave the white lady a beginner's course in the care and styling of black hair.

My parents were married for 67 years. They met when they were 15 and got married right after high school. Last February my dad passed away. After that, my mom's health deteriorated rapidly and she passed six weeks later. They just couldn't be apart. I miss them terribly every day, but I like the thought that maybe they're together in another realm.

They would be my dad and his wife. He's been with health issues the last 3 years, including 3 months in ICU. He's fine now, stronger. She's been diagnosed with breast cancer 2 days ago and he's been his rock. He's 79 and she 72, together for 40 years, married 8 years ago and are a perfect fit.

If you let them be a horse, they are curious, inventive animals, who are interested in everything you do, come investigating and step up to "help". Be a horse = all day out in the pasture with mates, with some trees (= birds) and a little bit busy road with all sorts of traffic.

Oh damn, donating that stuff is painful as hell but invaluable. I recommend everybody put themselves on the marrow donor registry; free & easy to get the genetic profile (oral swab). It's hard enough to find a match in the usual databases, so this helps a ton. BeTheMatch.org (recently officially changed their org name but that still works for now).

The man that donated the bone marrow is a hero. The procedure is painful and can leave the donor weak for days or weeks. Because of this only 10% of the population donates bone marrow. I hope this sweet man recovers from whatever ails him.

My Father-In-Law Was Forced Into Early Retirement. Turns Out He's Pretty Good At Art

My Father-In-Law Was Forced Into Early Retirement. Turns Out He's Pretty Good At Art

Back story: up until 9 months ago, he was working at a psychiatric hospital looking after sick people. A patient pushed him and he ended up grabbing him and falling to the ground with him, but the patient landed on top of him and he ended up breaking his back in multiple places. He had to be out of action for 6 months, that's when he had no choice but to retire early.

He fell into depression and felt like he had lost all hope. Recently, he decided to occupy his mind with something, so he started painting. To our surprise, it turns out he's pretty good, well we certainly think he is!

My husband's father goes down every morning to the park to feed the birds. My MIL, his wife, died of Covid a few years ago and he's lost without her. He said he goes and tells the birds all about how beautiful she was.

That's a horrible wheelchair. The center of balance is completely wrong for him and will damage his body even more. Unfortunately, I speak from experience with this, had one myself, and now I'm in horrible shape, faster than I would have been had I gotten a proper chair, to begin with

Good for her! I was doing it everyday too, it's a good scale and I love how it keeps track of your weight over time. But my Wii fit board stopped working, out of the blue, it started registering the balance is being way off, I didn't know how to fix that. And it's not like you can just go to the store and buy another Wii fit balance board anymore

I believe that is literally called a "long melon." It's a type of "Asian melon." If you grow them hanging from a support their own weight will pull them longer as they grow so they don't grow curly but they grow long.

I Set Up A Sim Racing Setup For My 90-Year-Old Grandfather

I Set Up A Sim Racing Setup For My 90-Year-Old Grandfather

I live in Korea, and I gifted my grandfather a sim racing setup this week, hoping to introduce him to the joy of driving.
Since my grandmother passed away last November, he's been quite depressed, and I thought it'd be great if he could find a hobby to focus on and enjoy. He often expressed a desire to drive somewhere, but given his age, actual driving is out of the question - not only for his safety but also for the safety of others on the road.
I wish I could be there to help him more since I am his grandson, but I live in a different region due to my business. Fortunately, my mother lives just two minutes away from him and visits daily to prepare meals, so she can assist him with the game. Since actual driving is too dangerous, I hope this virtual driving game can satisfactorily fulfill his desire to drive.

That is one of the things that I miss about being a cake decorator is the times I got to work with elderly customers. Some of my co-workers didn't have the most patience when it came to our senior customers but I actually preferred them over people my own age or kids. I think since there was a gap between my Mom's generation and mine that is why I'm more comfortable and prefer older people then ones who are my own age.

Dang, girl, 80?! As of three months ago, I'm glad to hear she's recovering at home after successful surgery. The OP was asked about the "botched" surgery part. From the link: "Yeah I don’t mind sharing. November 2023 she took a fall down her steps and broke her femur in half and displaced it into her right hip. She was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery and the doctor on call installed the equipment incorrectly. It didn’t heal and also shifted to where the metal was rubbing the bone of her hip. She went to another surgeon and now here we are!"

I'm sure he's having fun. It looks like he's the only man there. It reminds me of my father-in-law. He got involved with his local church after his wife passed away, and he told me that at one point he and the pastor were discussing how the church is supposed to take care of widows and orphans and he said "Pastor, how about this? You take care of the orphans and I'll take care of the widows."

You can keep on saying that kind of bigoted hate speech all you want, but it won't make it true! :D Sex and gender aren't the same, my friend. And just because one can see one type of sex organs on a fetus does NOT mean that the person the fetus will become will be the same gender as their organs! Trans people are people. Non-binary people are people. Gender-neutral people are people. Genderfluid people are people. Agender people are people. Intersex people are people.

I have a new favourite expression. From the OP via the link: "My mom is the one on the right in the pic of us. She's nearly 70 but is constantly mistaken for being in her 40's. Asian don't raisin! Lol".

She had so much fun. She was dancing in her chair and waving, and she just loved it. I think it was my favorite day with her yet.

I hope the couple in their mid-thirties doesn't see this.

I get it (other than the Elton connection!). It was too dark so I could only take a mental picture, but one of my favourite concert moments was watching an older couple dancing in their hotel room at the Skydome (now Rogers Centre) silhouetted against the window by the lamplight as Simon and Garfunkel sang (I believe it was "America").

Sure beats the hell of pretentious minimalist “greige” or other interior designer decorated and impersonal rooms, doesn’t it? This room welcomes you to make yourself at home, relax and enjoy yourself. No snootiness, no need to “know your forks” to be accepted here. Certainly no sterile hospital or “you can’t sit on the sofa” vibes either. It’s clean and neat, the furniture looks comfortable, and the pictures bring a lovely family feel to it. I really like this room.

Some of the best memories I have was rainy cold day with my grandmother watching black and white movies on TCM and AMC and she was telling me all the gossip of old Hollywood. I loved it.

Add a chicken purse to go with the new nail polish. Is she doing a man's hand next?

That bag is definitely something my grandma would have loved. She had one shaped like a piano accordion my uncle got her from overseas.

Actually, it has been discovered that if a video game makes you complete certain tasks or quests in order to advance to another level, it’s a game that will keep your brain sharp. The games that claim to do that generally don’t have levels to advance to, so really aren’t doing what they advertise. Basically, Grandpa is doing the exact right thing to keep his mind sharp—-and bonus! He’s thoroughly enjoying himself while doing it. Win-Win!

I can't play those games to save my life but i do love to colour in. I got some colouring books and pens when i was in hospital and because I'm disabled now it's my new hobby.
