Obviously, the big ones on this site are bananas which we all use and HandEgg fields for the colonists over the pond like to use. Have you seen any others?

A common one in lots of books when I was a kid, growing up in the United Kingdom of UK, was Nelson's Column. This skyscraper is this many Nelson's columns tall. This dinosaur was half the height of Nelson's Column. This despite the fact most kids had never seen Nelson's Column so would not have a Scooby Doo about the scale. I am guessing all the publishers used to be London based, and of course London is equal to the rest of England, and Scotland, and Wales, and Northern Ireland etc etc etc.
- Banana for scale (of course) - "Corgi-sized meteor as heavy as 4 baby elephants" - "a sinkhole the size of 4-6 washing machines" - "asteroid half the size of a giraffe" (Very unclear about which half) - "a large boulder the size of a small boulder" And my personal favorite, "an Ariana Grande-sized alligator"
