Every day presents us with the chance to expand our knowledge. But if you are still, for whatever reason, worried that you are too old to learn something new, think about Priscilla Sitienei, a midwife from Ndalat in Kenya.

Not having the opportunity to attend school as a kid, she grew up without learning to read or write. But as she got older, she wanted to share her experiences and knowledge with her family. So, at 90 years old, she joined a local school, along with six of her great-great-grandchildren.

I believe this is a an experiment into the viability of taking down drones using birds of prey. You can see that the bird is wearing jesses (leg straps).

Mission accomplished. The jess flopping off to the side shows he's been trained. I had an osprey harass my drone because it had a nest in the area. Got a video of it zooming by. I left the area hastily and intact.

I was out at a photo shoot for an Ag company. Two hawks lazily swooped over and checked out the Drone we were using. Flew alongside for a bit looking it over. Decided they didn't care and cruised off. Could have smashed it to bits, but were like "Nah bro..It's puny..."

I thought I read somewhere where birds were actually being used to take down drones. Could have been the onion, so maybe not.

Engaging in activities that challenge our mind is the key to reducing the risk of cognitive decline. Studies reveal that adopting new skills can enhance mental abilities in older adults. Just like our muscles, the mind also requires daily exercise to stay healthy. By regularly challenging and stimulating the brain, people can improve their reasoning abilities, problem-solving skills, and overall quality of life.

Taking up hobbies that involve curiosity also reduces stress and anxiety. For instance, reading allows us to unwind by letting us take a break from the hustle and bustle of work, relationships, and daily responsibilities. This is incredible. You never realize how giant these birds are until you see them next to a human being. I rmr in Canada I went on a 3wk canoe trip w/ my dad when I was 15 n we camped on this little island for a night n there was a bald eagle nest right above us. It was like 6-7ft in diameter. They would come n go to feed the babies n it was so intimidating when they would fly in bc I was just a tiny teenage girl.... this bird was like 3 of me. One of the coolest experiences ever. It definitely made up for how much that trip kicked my a*s!

Mantis are my #1 all-time favorite insect, followed by a tie between big fat bumblebees and dragonflies. I love the mantis because they are smart and self-aware, and will also actually see you—-other insects seem to ignore you unless they feel threatened—-and will turn their heads to look at you if you walk around them. The bonus comes when they help rid your shed of black widows. I am not at all a fan of spiders, so I have nothing but respect for the mantis being able to take down one of the worst of the spider baddies.

I remember a while ago going for a walk and I saw a mantis on someone’s fence. When I stopped to look at it, it turned around and appeared to be smiling at me 😀

This has to be a "mantis fancier" - showing off their collection. There is nowhere in the world you could go for a hike and find all those- some are probably from India, some from Indonesia - some from Brazil.

The storm there was nothing like I experienced before. Lightning struck it every 10-15 seconds for half an hour. I was a kid in awe how are we not on fire yet. Locals just tuned up the TV volume.

this is most likely a community missal book for churches, as printing individual booklets was beyond expensive and pretty much impossible. these books were placed in the front and center of the church, and the huge letters allows for anyone in any part of the church to read along and follow the mass. books like these usually had hymns or psalms for the congregation to sing, or the parts of the mass such as the liturgy of the eucharist. churches very rarely owned more than one of these books, as they were pretty dang expensive, but one book could have up to an entire liturgical year written inside of it.

Blood Falls is a waterfall of vibrant red water that oozes out of Antarctica's Taylor Glacier. Its unique color is due to iron salts seeping out of the ice that turn red when exposed to oxygen. The falls are home to microbes that can survive extreme conditions, with no light or oxygen.........I just did a copy/paste from a Google search.

That ledge has separated from the larger piece so, no way I'd chance it. I'm not afraid of heights but I know better than to take that dumb of a chance.

I saw some of these in person in the 80s. In more recent pictures they seem to be in glass cases. Were just sort of on display back when. It's kind of amazing what has survived - some of the mosaics and paintings and such.

This gentleman appears to be handling the child's remains (yes, that is essentially what they are) with a good deal of somber respect. At least the child's life and death are being acknowledged.

Poor baby. These kinds of displays break my heart. When I was a teenager in science and industry museum in Chicago had a display of infants from week 1 to week 40. You could see pain on the face of some in later weeks.

There is tremendous educational value in making people face the reality of what happens to you if you are suddenly buried in a 1500 degree C pyroclastic flow. As for the child , they are in a better place now.

Food. When you get desperate enough for protein you'll eat anything available. Around some of the African lakes they catch midges in nets, squish them into pucks, and eat them. Apparently they taste awful and are gritty as all heck, but they're free food.

For the man that needs everyone to know how shallow, hollow and useless he is. There are thousands of better ways to spend money that bring joy, alleviate suffering, create beauty, but this dude chooses to advertise his avarice, ignorance and soullessness. I'd say, "Eat the Rich," but they'd taste like s**t.
