In January of 2016, my husband and I said goodbye to our 9-5’s and sold our California home to travel the world with our now 1-year old daughter. We had experienced a truly traumatic year in 2015 and decided it was time to pursue our dream. With Master’s degrees in teaching English to speakers of other languages and Studio Art, we both desired a creative lifestyle to pursue creating and writing. I had four children’s story manuscripts in waiting for illustrations which I had written four years prior, my husband had his portfolio of creations he’d been working on for 10 years. I took a part-time job teaching English in China, while my husband took jobs painting murals and working on animation projects. We traveled to four countries in our first three months and inspiration struck.

Using the photographs from our travels to France, Germany, Switzerland and China along with scouring vintage illustrations online for my color palette, I managed to illustrate my story that I had been trying to illustrate for four years in just one week. My husband used his graphic design expertise to format the book for publishing and we self-published our first book, “Completely Rainbow,” under our new publishing company “Daisy Moon Books,” named after our daughter.
