A little over a year ago, myself and a school teacher/rock musician started a podcast. The podcast centers around our trials and tribulations as working professionals who also produce independent art in our spare time. When he’s not teaching, he’s the front man for The Amoeba People nerd rock band and when I’m not animating on Bob’s Burgers I’m making my own short animated films.
After weeks of talking, we discovered that we both missed educational programming that was more like School House Rock and less like the majority of educational programming today. We thought if we combined our talents, we could make something like that, if not better.
All it took was one night of drinking beer and running over ideas before we came up with the general concept of a dim-witted James Bond-esque super villain who had a crew of minions that accidentally foiled all of her plans simply by explaining how stupid they were. In song form, of course. I immediately went home and designed the characters and individual back stories before we got together and picked a song he had previously written (which was his classes favorite) to become the inaugural music video for this crazy concept we call Foil Four.
Directed, animated, and edited by myself, Mike McCraw, with the infectious song; Heliocentric, written and performed by my buddy; Ray Hedgpeth of the Amoeba People, the fruits of our labor and crazy ideas have been realized and would love for everyone to check it out.
