I love learning about history; however, I have never heard of him nor of this story. It's very fascinating in learning what could have had happened had this man launched nukes as retaliation for something that didn't happen.

I stopped reading every publication that used the headline "Crack Panther" he was dying at the time although most didn't know it. There was never any reports of him being involved in drugs and the media should have done more investigation rather than assuming he was an addict.

Unpopular opinion: as someone who worked in the wildlife business in Africa, all I can say is that while his enthusiasm for animals was unmatched, he was repeatedly reckless in the way he approached and handled animals. While his death was tragic, it could easily have been avoided if he had kept the practice of treating wild animals with respect, and not crowding them, baiting them and interfering with them.
