Meet Picasso, The Perfectly Imperfect Dog That No One Wanted

Meet Picasso, the dog with a twisted jaw, who, together with his brother Pablo, was left at a shelter and slated to be euthanised. The siblings were born to a backyard breeder, who managed to sell all the puppies from the litter, except for Picasso who has a very noticeable facial abnormality. After being surrendered to a shelter, Picasso soon got reunited with Pablo, as the family who bought his brother changed their mind about having a pooch. The brothers didn’t have much time left before being put to sleep…

And that’s when Luvable Dog Rescue stepped in. “I just happened to ask [if they] had any unusual-looking or special needs dogs,” Liesl Wilhardt, executive director of Luvable Dog Rescue, told The Dodo. “[They] sent me Picasso’s shelter intake photo. He was curled in a dog bed, and looked very sad. His twisted face was startling, but he had soft and gentle eyes, and for me it was love at first sight!”

Luvable will take both boys in and make sure they get adopted together after Picasso undergoes surgery to remove the teeth pushing into the roof of his mouth.

I don't think it'S worth sending the poor pooch through tons of painful surgery. Yes, it looks really odd, but he seems to be ok eating and breathing. He doesn't know he looks strange and he found a good home AND with his brother, too.

All the reactions are nice but it's also kinda sad. A dog who needs a home gets media attention and suddenly everyone wants to adopt him, but those same people would never think of visiting a shelter and adopting a pet that didn't have a story going viral on the media... (don't get me wrong, it's great that his duo is going to be adopted because all of this, but there's so many pets left in shelters.)

Thats true but I think stories like this encourage people to go to rescue centres, without an publicity they wouldn't get many donations or forever homes...

He's lovely but still I guess he needs some surgery, not that much estetic as functional one. His left lip is being hit by his theeth. It may hurt in fact. His mouth is not completely closed, that means that it dries out too much. Picasso might be in pain but he got used to it because he doesn't know that it can be different. The surgery may not be that painful. But can you imagine how much his life would change after that?!
