Artist Who’s Responsible For Making People Cry With ‘Good Boy’ And Black Cat Comics Just Released A Sequel

The perception of black cats varies between cultures but in the West, they generally have been associated with darkness, bad faith, and death. However, artist Jenny Jinya wants to change that. To her, the color of the fur doesn’t matter.
Not so long ago, she created a comic about the life of a black cat. It instantly went viral, so Jenny decided to make a sequel to it.
“There are dozens of posters and infographics with various statistics about abandoned or abused animals. Many know the problems, but such information is quickly forgotten,” Jenny told Bored Panda. “I try to give a voice to the victims with my comics. I want the affected pets to be able to tell their own stories. I hope I can raise awareness this way.”

Here’s the original Black Cat comic in case you haven’t seen it
And here’s the sequel
Luckily, things are beginning to change for the better. Even though numerous organizations (for example, Humane Society for Southwest Washington and Cat Adoption Team in Sherwood) have reported that black adult cats consistently stay longer on the adoption floor than their more colorful counterparts, the Halloween torture thing is becoming more of an urban legend that is a legitimate threat to the felines.
“We certainly do not have any hesitancy about adopting black cats at Halloween,” Deborah Wood, animal services manager for Washington County, told The Oregonian.
According to her, people come to the shelter specifically asking for black cats because they think the stigma around them might make it harder for them to get adopted.
Furthermore, common animal shelters practices require adopters to show identification and conduct an interview with a shelter staff worker before taking home a new pet.
People really loved both of these strips

This is sad and adorable at the same time. I said it before and I'll say it again : black cats exist so we can have mini panthers at home. Some people are just too thick to appreciate them
That's so well said!!! Black kitties are the same sweet beans as the others. Plus, they look like lil toothless from HTTYD!
Yes!! When I saw that movie, Toothless reminded me of my cat. He's not 100% black, he's a tuxedo, but he has a lot more black than white, and from several angles you can't see any white, so he's an honorary black cat. :)
I've always loved black cats because I think they are the prettiest, but your concept that they are mini panthers is even better! Thank you for sharing that.
In our country we actually like black cats, we have a book full of fairytales about journey of a black cat named Mikes "Mikes the cat" from Josef Lada, he wroted it and even draw a beautiful pictures, so we like black cats here :) img_176009_orig.jpg
I googled this awesome country to find it is Czechoslovakia. Another cool fact: Josef Lada has an asteroid named after him.
There’s actually a breed of cat that was created for this exact reason it’s called Bombay they have short sleek fur and either yellow or orangish eyes the breed was only recognized internationally in 1979
Ours was even named Panther. He would hop up to my mom to try and help her with her seizures. Even at the end of his 13 years, being put down because he was in too much pain, he was more concerned about her crying than what the vets were doing.
I feel a sudden urge to go to a shelter and take the cat, which has been there the longest.
Please do! I volunteer at a no-kill shelter and we've had cats that have been there their whole life (19+ years) because they were shy people passed them by. Shy cats can change in a home environment where it is less stressful.
Absolutely. We choose our Boo because he was shy and no one wanted him. It took some weeks, a lot of love and attention and nowadays he's a big snuggle bug.
That is just so sad. I have 4 cats, that were rescued. I'd save them all if I could.
I would! But we are not allowed to have pets in our current flat. Our landlord lives above us and he has severe allergies. But we are looking for a house now and then we will get one.
We recently got a cat that was shy and other cats at the shelter hissed at her and she hid from everybody. She's a sweetest cat ever and now sleeps next to me all the time, and comes fro cuddles.

Reminds me of the time I worked at a bunny shelter. A little boy with autism came in, and I helped him get to know the bunnies, as his family was adopting and he'd get to choose/let the bunny choose him. His answer was that he wanted the bunny whom would have the hardest time getting adopted, and ended up becoming great buds with a bunny with only one ear and three legs. Happiest lil two, lemme just tell you, it absolutely makes the day of the staff to see such wholesomeness.
What an sweet and lovely child.
Me too
Oh no! Another me. I never learn. I go to a shelter and pick the saddest most un-adoptable animal. My last one was a 5-6 year old hound with Lyme’s disease, arthritis, a huge cyst and his nickname was Dumbdumb no harm meant from shelter staff. I quickly figured out why they called him that and sometimes I say it to him. His name is Harry and he just stares off into the distance most of the time as if he’s got brain damage possibly. He is a SWEETHEART and would never hurt anyone, he’s kind and lovable and let’s all his siblings bully him, but in the end we all love each other. I’m happy my 10 year old daughter felt bad for hi and brought him home. I’m afraid nobody else would have.
You can foster those too if you’re worried about the responsibility. Before I adopted my two cats, I fostered the most damaged cats that were available. It was so enriching and meaningful in my life, and theirs.
You were very kind to foster, especially the damaged ones, reading comments, many do have black cats, my black girl is the second adoption, I support a local kitty rescue, what I learned is, the after the kittens were adopted, the mothers are left, the shelters have adult cats who need a home, if people know they can have a cat to love, no kitten to train, to adopt a lonely adult cat, or to foster as all pet needs are paid for !!!
We did it with my parents when I was a kid. My first cat was killed by the neighbour who made it on purpose because one day he closed her into his garage for a whole night and she pooped there. As it was my first pet my parents took me to the shelter in the afternoon and asked me what cat I wanted. There was this cat who had a cold and who the shelter employees wanted to put to sleep so she didn't pass the cold to the other cats. We took her. She was already an old lady but for me she was perfect. We spent so many years with her, it was the best. She died of old age illness. Really old animals or sick animals are as awesome as puppies or kitten if you take the time to care for them.
No, what did you do, I am crying in open office!!! I have a black kitty, she is crazy little ahole but I still love her.
I prefer black cats, always have at least one. mooie-man-...442eb5.jpg

Your comment makes me happy to be retired. :) I'm crying at my computer at home, with one of my cats curled up in my arms as I type.
My little Diva has taken over my lap because it's HER lap, of course! :-) Typing becomes an adventure, then, because the keys become blurry--I am NOT a touch-typist. I have to look at the keyboard and fix all typos afterwards! Argh... dang cat (I love you, silly fuzzbutt)
Our black cat is a little thing named Benny.
