“This Is Just Evil”: Servers Share The Most Infuriating ‘Tips’ They’ve Ever Received
Interview With ExpertIn many countries, it’s expected that you tip for good service. The actual amount or percentage varies depending on where you are in the world and the level of service. But generally, it’s frowned upon to give anything less than 10%. Waiters and waitresses have been sharing the most infuriating ‘tips’ they’ve ever received, and wow, are they going through the most.
Bored Panda has put together a jaw-dropping list of the wildest ways customers have “thanked” staff for serving them. And some might make you want to pay a little extra at your next restaurant visit to make up for other people’s bad behavior. We also spoke to customer service expert and best-selling author Shep Hyken about tipping culture. You'll find that interview in between the images.

I Work As A Cabin Housekeeper At A State Park. People Usually Sometimes Leave Tips For Us To Thank Us For Our Hard Work, But Yesterday We Found This In A Cabin
I don't mind hearing about the word of God, but this is just evil.
This Guy Has Been Waiting For This Moment His Entire Life
Rude
I got tipped 2¢ one night waiting tables in college. The people went out on the restaurant patio after eating and I gave them back their 2¢.
Thought It Could Be For Food…
My family is rather low on money and I got “tipped” 100 dollars at my job at a restaurant as a waitress and got so excited to have my own money since I’m young and can’t get a real job that actually pays well. Guess I got double screwed and also tipped nothing for all my work. I’m definitely not gonna by your advertising services now.
I think any time people leave something like this or one of those disgusting religious recruitment phoney bills in a tipping situation, they should be charged for passing out fake money.

The U.S. needs to pass a new, higher minimum wage including service people. Service staff are paid $2/3 per hour and expected to make up the rest with tips. I've never understood the reasoning behind this law.
The Person That Left This “Tip”
Disgusting and rude. Says far more about the “tipper” than the server.

Our money in the U.S. is worthless in Europe and probably less than since the new president. Many think ALL countries take American money. THEY DON'T. Do your research.

Love Notes From People Who Bring Their Own Drinks Into A Restaurant (Tx)
A gentleman decided to pour his own wine into our wine glass after finished the wine he ordered. Asked him about he confessed he poured it. The partners reasoning was “I thought since we could drink on the sidewalk we could bring our own drink in here” I took the glass and let them finish their food I just dropped off.

Me And Other Server Agreed To Split The Tip On A Party Of 15. They Tipped A Dollar
Most restaurants automatically add a tip for parties over a certain number. (8 to 10 or more). And it doesn't matter if you get separate checks at some places. If you're sitting together, you all pay. This is because, depending on the size of your group and how busy they are, larger groups keep a server from having more tables, thereby reducing their chances of more tips. Because so many large groups stiff their servers (leaving little to no tip), a lot of places now do this.

$1 Tip On $500+ Bar Tab
I went to U of I, the proud home of Kams. This is one of the worst bars in Champaign known for the worst kind of college fraternity/sorority trash that comes in. We didn't go there much bc it was NOT a safe place to put your drink down. I can imagine the worst kind of over privileged, ignorant, binge drinking elitist larva that spent this much there and didn't tip. I would love to see how many redbull vodkas were on that tab.
Negative Tip?
Automatically added tip (Gratuity) $4.10 minus customer's "Adjustment" to automatic tip: -$2, equals $2.10 tip. Not much but not negative.
Why Blame Me?
Like OK, yeah, I guess it could be annoying? But there was nothing wrong with the food, the speed, or the service. Just admit you were never going to tip.

i counted the ones that had to do with not tipping and saying something about religion instead, there was 7 or 8 of them. why do people do this??

All good comments about the issues with tipping/servers wages and all that. Look at it from this perspective: why are you going to a restaurant? You are trading up for a short time. Have a nice meal, maybe a drink or three, a generally pleasant time. You are able, for a few hours, to just focus you. You are avoiding shopping for/preparing/cooking and cleaning up, and having people serve you as you wish. Those people deserve more than a perfunctory thank you. When you were younger, and maybe helped a neighbor with some task, like yardwork or shoveling, and they slipped you a $10 or $20, you liked it, and accepted it. No different with a server. These people are working hard for an increasingly grumpy clientele, and they have rent and bills to pay also. Many have lost "real" jobs and are doing the best they can at the time. Helping them is not a hand out, it is a hand up. Also, imagine the cost of a meal should they start paying decent wages and benefits. A whole new bitchfest.
Cost of meals in Europe, where tipping is generally an exception and rarely exceeds 5%, are on average 40 to 50% lower than in the US, pre-tips. Servers make a living wage, have healthcare, PTO and retirement benefits; restaurants pay higher taxes on average (4-10% VAT). Yet they turn a profit without screwing over their personnel or force them to panhandle.
