There’s always something we don’t like. I can’t stand the taste of beetroots, while my best friend is basically allergic to licorice. Food is just one category where people often express their dislikes, but we see the same bursts of loathing anywhere from the animal kingdom to leisure activities. A relative of mine couldn’t stand stepping into a boat, or rather even the thought of it.

But when you stop and think about the things humans address their hate towards, you start wondering about the reasons why. Maybe we’re simply scared of the unknown (yes, tarantulas, we’re speaking of you!) or maybe it’s our past experiences that haunt us to this day.

In any case, today is the perfect time to step back and reflect on these things. Thanks to these two thought-provoking Reddit threads (here and here) where people listed all the things that don’t deserve the hate they get, we have a lot to uncover!

People Name 50 Things That Should Not Be So Universally Hated But Somehow Are Feminism. It doesn’t mean that women are better than men, it means women are *equal* to men. And because I believe everyone should be equal, I am proud to say I am a feminist

When you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.

Yes, I think this is the core issue why (mostly) men are against feminism - not that they don't understand. Even if they gain a lot by equality they must give up privileges that they are used to. Men who are stuck in "what about"-ism land often complain about less parental rights and having to be the "breadwinner" (for example) BUT they don't want to trade that for having to do their share of parental responsibility, housework, emotional load and give up their higher income and status in society for example.

I wish more people understood this about feminism. It has gotten such a bad wrap, but it has never been about dragging men down; it has always been about pulling women up so that they are afforded the same rights and privileges as men. It breaks my heart to know that so many women in this world are still treated as property, with little or no access to education or resources.

Unfortunately, raising women's opportunities up will automatically lower men's opportunities. Or at least remove the privilege and advantages that they've enjoyed for so long. It really is zero sum. The same applies to race equality. If Man A got where he is by (for example) networking only available to men, but now suddenly Woman B is given those same networking options, Man A now has competition - and might not win. It's rather pathetic really, because studies have shown that bettering lives for women advances the entire population, but most antifeminist hate is based less on how much the world can be improved, and sticks strictly to how much MY life will "suffer".

Feminism is gender equity. Feminism enables men. There is no reason men should pay for dates, engagement rings, and absolutely everything that equates masculinity to financial worth. This Is Feminism. And all the Beyonces and Madonnas and Brittanies who want to say "I 'm not a feminist, I'm a Humanist" need to just Google both terms. And, then, possibly, come to terms with what they are. I am proud to be a feminist because you all thought I was beating a dead horse and, suddenly, we have no rights to our own bodies, again. It didn't even last 1 generation.

The problem is the most radical among us are the most vocal online, and a lot of them preach outright hatred towards men, something I absolutely do not support. Those particular individuals want to beat men into the ground, not be equal to them. They are why feminism is viewed as it is.

Yep, unfortunately there is a vocal minority that substitutes the word "feminism" in for "misandry" and when your vocal minority becomes the loudest voice you get the same effects you do for any other group. "All Christians are Bigots, All Vegans are preachy, All feminists are misandrists" when people don't shut down the vocal minority because "at least they're on our side" it ends with needing to work 10 times harder to make your point because people think you agree with them.

Yeah. This one always upsets me. Feminism is still considered something ugly by so many people. Why it's called feminism is because we need to raise women to the same level as men (and also create equity) - not because women should be superior. Feminists don't hate men, they hate the patriarchy and that's a big difference. And I really can't agree with people saying the name being the issue, enough people should know and understand by now what it stands for - but yeah, it it's something you don't want it's easy to "misunderstand" and I think that's more of the case. Also, if we just say "equality for all!" we lose focus on the fact that we are not equal = nothing happens. Last; feminism benefit men too. The patriarchy hurts men too in many ways.

Yes, it does hurt men. In all that brutal jockeying, some are stigmatised as "losers" because human skills and aspects like intellect, sensitivity, kindness, gentleness, integrity, co-operativeness and so on are not valued by the "winners". Physical strength and prowess are over valued. Boys are taught to hide their feelings and repress non-privileged impulses behind a kind of "mask". It creates an emotionally starved human being at the very least.

I've posted this elsewhere but I think it's important. Feminism is about bringing the inequality that women have been subjected to to the notice of the public. It is about not putting up with women getting less pay, fewer rights and generally being treated as weaker, second class citizens. It's about pointing out that a woman can be a doctor as well as nurse if she chooses (remember the story books from the 60s?) It's about not allowing 'tradition' to hobble women. It is not extremist, just searching and stretching for fairness and equality. Any fair minded individual would support that, not be afraid of it.

If I can find a rescue black cat, when my roommate and I manage to move into an apartment where we’re not tripping each other, will be another black cat. Never been hard to find them because of this stupid…..ah, sh*te. However….gotta blame myself some because I just can’t resist naming after demons. Actually in some countries or cultures black cats are considered lucky. In the UK it was always viewed as lucky to have a black cat cross your path. There is one about them on your wedding day promoting good luck. I am so irritated that some people have adopted a superstition coming from elsewhere particularly as it is bloody stupid. It really isn't a uniformly viewed thing though. Again, with black dogs it is considered lucky if one follows you home. I am actually anti superstition but if the UK has superstitions that are pro black animals we should promote them!!!

People Name 50 Things That Should Not Be So Universally Hated But Somehow Are Homeless people. It doesnt matter how they lost their home, it doesnt matter if they suffer from an addiction, it doesnt matter if they have a job or not. People have unspoken challenges that you dont know about, and they may have never happened to you, and its none of your damn business why theyre homeless. Housing should be considered a human right, and the fact this is still up for debate bothers me. I've seen how small bachelor pads can get, people really dont need much to survive. Also, people act as if housing being a human right somehow infringes on their ability to buy property, when it doesnt. It just means those that are less fortunate literally just *CANT* be homeless and would be accommodated with the basics for human survival like running water, power, insolated walls and a bed. The fact that housing has been treated as profitable to exploit the lower class, is the reason we have homeless people. Not because of your pre-conceived idea of their life you know nothing about.

My soon to be ex husband and I argue over this constantly. He thinks all of the homeless people should be arrested for loitering, being a public nuisance, and for theft of land (where they put their tents up and other shelters. I say to let them be for the time being until we can find better accommodations. When I can, I will put together kits that include toiletries, socks, underwear, blankets, food and reading materials and have all of it in a backpack. I give these out to whomever needs them. I also make ones for kids that will also include puzzle books and age appropriate books. My soon to be ex thinks it's a waste of time. He is such a prick.

Another thing for the list: younger females are the most frequent "language disruptors." They are often the first demographic group to start using new slang terms and speech patterns, they get a lot of ridicule for it and seen as immature and ditzy (think everything from "uptalk" to the use of "like")...then a generation or two later, these same speech patterns and slang terms have spread to males and older age groups and don't seem nearly as stereotypical or out of place anymore. Apparently, this has been happening for centuries. https://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/28/science/young-women-often-trendsetters-in-vocal-patterns.html

Or, ya know, women stuff. It doesn't actually change. The wording might but we are too emotional or ice queens when we are not emotional enough. To sexual versus uptight. Yeah, it actually gets a lot worse than being female and teenaged. On the plus side the orgasms really do get better and it is okay to stop shaving all the extra tender parts. But that won't happen, most likely, until your 30s.

We separate them, keep one at a time, keep them in apartments, leave them for hours (or days - just nib in and feed her in the morning, while I'm on vacation, will you?). Cats are social animals, they like their mates and their humans, and they get very sad when you leave them. Cats have personalities, yes they do, and they re all different, even litter mates can be extremely different personalities, but cats also mirror what they have experienced in their lives. Abandon, neglect (willful or not), and all the other feelings ascribed to a living being not being treated the way they should. Are you cat lazy or simply passive bc of boredom? Are you cat hyper and scratches everything or just playful without anyone to play with? Don't get one cat, get two or three litter mates and your furniture and cats will thank you.

I don't get the obsession with it- yeah, if I want a drink I have one- if I don't- I don't. It's such a weird thing. Like no one pressures you to drink root beer or milk, what is the obsession with alcohol???

Struggle of my life. I can't stand the smell and taste of it. I can't stand the feeling of being drunk. And most important, as an Asian I lack the enzymes that deal with alcohol. But somehow people hardly accept it when I refuse to drink. Or turn down a meal or desert that contains alcohol. 'Trx it anyway, it's all burnt off'. No it's not. And what's the point for me of having one spoonful of food or one shot, when I am trapped in one place for hours afterwards because i can't drive anymore. With incredible headaches, raging heartbeat, numb jaw and having massive problems just to breathe. Drinking is a big part of German culture. Fine, but don't force it on someone. Mysteriously same people are highly offended, when I suggest to do some heroin together instead, just to make a point (no, don't touch heroin ever!). End of ranting.

German here, and I know exactly what you mean! For some reason, drinking indeed seems to be part of the culture and people can be a real pain in the [!] if you refuse to participate. Well, most parties like Karneval, Schützenfest etc. ARE almost unbearable if you are sober, so maybe that is why. I stopped drinking several years ago and people told me they were disappointed that "they could no longer have fun with me". Wait, so you can only have fun with me when I am drunk? Only when you are drunk? Or both? Does that say something about you, or about me? I am confused, please explain! Needless to say, they couldn't.

Alcohol is a sedative - at least this is how our brain perceives its effects. Why would we want to get a sedative in happy moments?

Many people think they need it to "losen up a bit" - far easier to rely on a substance to have fun every now and then than to work on your personality and think about what makes you so uptight in the first place. Plus, you can always blame the alcohol afterwards if you did something that you do not want to take responsibility for later on. It is a quite sad play to watch sometimes.

It damn near follows a script whenever a new person learns I don't drink. First, they say 'oh' and look surprised, often a little uncomfortable; then they tell me how they don't drink as much as they used to (I didn't ask and I don't care), and try to justify their drinking to me; it happens less now that I'm older (and thus hang out with similarly aged people), but when I was in my 20s there was the third response, which was trying to get me to try something alcoholic and/or telling me that they're gonna get me to drink (because f**k my boundaries, right?). I'm so tired of this.

ALWAYS, PLEASE, STOP SAYING YOU ARE STUPID, DUMB, AND SO VERY MUCH WORSE. You are not. You are not and you make it easier for others to not only see you that way but to also see themselves that way. You are actually trying and are, therefore, being the best you can be. And that does not mean the best human ever. It doesn't even mean a better version of you. You are exactly what you should be. Striving for more is lovely but self-hatred... There is nothing productive in that.

I've quit my job because I was sick of dealing with an idiot employer that took advantage of my dedication and loyalty to the company for 6 years. I gave everything to that job. I fell into the worse depression since, for the first year I had reccuring nightmares about that job almost every night. I know I'm good at everything I do, no matter what, and everyone around me tells me this and appreciate the quality of the things I do. And yet, I'm my own biggest critic, I hate the things I create, and feel broken inside. I know that I shouldn't, yet I've lost something..and I've lost my way. I've lost trust in myself. I hate it and I hate that constant battle with myself. Don't let anyone take advantage of your goodwill, don't let them take your work for granted, don't let anyone push you to the edge of depression. Cut ties with these people because the future consequences of not doing so, can be worse. Love yourself more to prevent a day when you end up hating yourself.

What makes an actor a GREAT actor is diversifying their roles and playing characters that seem out of the norm for them, or too realistic to be considered acting. If you can make somebody love you for playing just one character, you're a successful actor; you're great. If you can make someone hate your guts for playing a character, you're an extraordinary actor. You're legendary.

I see this so much with Imelda Staunton (aka, Umbridge in Harry Potter) to the extent that people refuse to watch any other show/movie with her in it. It's honestly quite pathetic. (especially considering Imelda Staunton is lovely irl, and if you ask me, a fantastic actress if she managed the role so well that it's had this effect to begin with. even if the effect is sad)

Masks would also help prevent the spread of flu and colds. As someone recovering from a nasty cold that gave me laryngitis, sinusitis and bronchitis I'm rather keen on people NOT coming out when they are sick at all. Just stay at home for a few days. What might be a minor cold to you, can make others very ill. Fact. Three people came out for a drink with me when sick and one of them gave me this cold. Thanks very bloody much for my fortnight in bed and my need now for antibiotics. Stop spreading your bloody germs and keep to yourself regardless of how minor you might think it is. Could kill people with COPD.

I’d give Pitties some disagreement, but the same for Rotties, Dobies, Shepherds and some others. The only reason I will say breed is the bloody idjits out there who breed them either for fighting or for “guard dogs”. Who have no idea how you properly breed animals, and actually breed for the most vicious they can for money and people who will buy the pups for that and some weird skewed concept of status. And my defeyfor that is that I know too many people who have done so. They usually have less than any idea how to train them and encourage that behavior; subsequently, they have a an uncontrollable time bomb. They give the rest a really bad rap, are the defining visual for these breeds, and result in way too many dogs in euthanasia shelters. BTW, all back yard breeders of any pet are guilty of this. Downvote if you like, I grew up raising dogs with responsible breeders for parents. I’m not down on the breeds, just the incredible and heartbreaking results.

#2 There are a few breeds out there who’s breed standard calls for them to be vicious. The one I know is huge…..and many years ago, I think 2001, a pair of them were left with people who no control of them, and they killed a woman in their apartment hall. It’s not exactly don’t blame the breed, blame the deed. Blame the absolute fools who create, don’t train properly and enjoy scaring people…hey it’s only fun until someone suffers serious injury….those people should be reincarnated as a member of such breeds. Sorry it’s so long - it’s the people not the critters, but I just get so mad when I watch there people. Buy from a reputable breeder - ask your vet - adopt one who has been screened. Cheaper anyway as a rule. And don’t get me started on wolf hybrids.

I'm an advocate for snakes. I hate when people see snakes and act like they literally HAVE to kill it. Venomous, leave them be. Non venomous snakes can be easily relocated. Professionals can be called. I always love relocating the snakes I find at my job. I've been handling snakes for around 15 years and they can be the absolute sweetest things. No they're not slimy. No they aren't constantly ready to attack you. Some breeds are a bit more defensive than others. Leave them be if you hate them. Don't kill them.

I have a pet snake, he's a lil baby noodle and doesn't have a harmful bone in his slender body. My friends are scared of him and seem to think he'll attack them or something but he'd never dream of it (he has NEVER gone for anything other than his food, and he's 9). When I'm older I wanna work with wolves (or some other wild canine, I haven't decided yet) because I think they're absolutely awesome. Plushies are beloved and you deserve better than to interact with anyone who judges you for having them

People treat fast food workers with disrespect just because they feel like they work at a low class job and so they instantly think they are low class too. It's disgusting, and I've seen such shitty behaviour from some people. They are humans and deserve respect as much as a lawyer gets

Thank you.....my student daughter has been working in fast food for 3 years while studying (UK). She has been abused, screamed at, dragged unconscious junkies out of toilets, seen people stabbed, had her hair set alight, and was assaulted by a drunk grown a*s man! All because she is trying to support herself through her study (she is training to be a medical professional too...)

I was working on my own one day at a Tim Hortons in a mall. (Literally no one showed up for their shifts until that evening.) One lady and her friend came in and ordered 5 long sandwiches (all different kinds) with 5 soups, 5 drinks. We have to put the order into the till so it comes up on screen (for some reason people think we're just refusing to look at them when we're trying to find the items and customizations in the POS system, and ring up the total), she was being impatient but yakking with her friend, too. I got made their drinks, toasted their hoagie bread, made their sandwiches, and as I was about to get their soups all I hear is "It's taking an awful long time. Where's our soup? We ordered the soup right? Get us our soup that we ordered." HOLY F**K Not like I forgot about it, I just only have 2 hands and already rushing my a*s off. I got their damn, precious soup and the whole order prep time took under 4 minutes. They walked away without a thank you, just a hateful scowl.

when i'm not speaking much at family dinner a couple people like to try to force me to talk. it's so annoying! i'm either just soaking it all in or just have no desire to talk to any of them (other than my favorite cousins) because of all the stupid drama they cause. also at school, i'm only talkative with my friend group and i don't really speak very much to anyone else unless it's to be polite or if i need to. people see me as selective abd it's really annoying. i don't hate you just because i'm not talking to you, i just don't want to talk that much because i'll be SO tired if i try to chat up when i can't.

It's so upsetting because I'm very very shy when I meet new people so I have this block and I can't talk, so I just smile, nod and listen. Some people appreciate me anyways, little by little I start speaking and if I like you and feel comfortable with you it's pretty noticable. Some people called me a bi*** or haughty just because I don't speak much.

People Name 50 Things That Should Not Be So Universally Hated But Somehow Are Opossums. They're neat little critters. They eat tons of ticks that carry Lyme disease, (mostly) don't carry rabies because their body temp is too low, and they're the only marsupial native to North America! They get a bad rap because their first defense is to hiss and bare teeth, but failing that, they just play dead. If you don't have the predisposition to hate them, you'll find they're pretty cute too. E: this is about /opossums/, the north American species. Kiwis, I feel for you, but this comment isn't about your possums.

We had an opposum in our house once. My wife has a great love of critters, especially opposums, and will get toy stuffed critters, cuz they're cute. Well one evening, I came home and saw one of her toy opposums sitting on the couch. Then it moved...Twas a live, real, adolescent opposum, and was quite irritated that I interrupted it watching the t.v. It makes a run for it, but I don't want to have any more visits, so I capture it before it can slip out the way it came in, and relocated it to a local park. But before it's journey, I HAD to show my wife. I dont know which was more cute, the opposum or my wife gushing about the opposum.

my first experience with an opossum was when i was waiting for my coworker outside her office while sitting at the picnic table. i didn't know that there was a resident opossum in the nearby foliage as it was adjacent to the complexes dumpsters. as they say, setting up housekeeping is all about location, location, location so he was set. apparently he didn't like me hanging out there and came at me hissing and baring teeth and scared the c**p out of my. when my friend came out and saw me standing on the table she laughed her butt off and tossed a piece of her sandwich towards him which he took and toddled away to eat. she said they had tried to get him to leave but since he didn't bother anyone they just kind of ignored him and he ignored them...unless they got too close to where he lived.

I'm so tired of this. I have a degree in food science and my training and experience mean nothing compared to propagated internet rumors and influencers. No food group is bad for you. No food group is killing you. Everyone needs every food group, diabetics still need carbs and sugar to function because low blood sugar is just as dangerous as high blood sugar. Sugar isn't bad or addictive, when was the last time you saw someone addicted to fruit? It's the man made like high fructose corn syrup. Fats are also necessary, our brains are jelly molds of fat with a little bit of salt. We need to stop demonizing foods just because we want a quick enemy to blame for our own mistakes.

thank you. I am so sick of these internet idiots who latch onto the latest religion about carbs or keto or whatever. this bllshit has been going on since the 1980s with margarine etc. Energy is energy. Fat and carbs have a certain number of hydrocarbon molecules in them. Each molecule releases a certain amount of energy when oxidised. It's utterly f*****g irrelevant whether it's a fat or carb, all that matters is the number of carbon-carbon bonds and whether those bonds are saturated (no double bonds or all have a hydrogen etc.). Zero to do with "good" or "Bad". F*****g ignoramuses must go do an actual degree.

Yes and no. I lost a lot of weight with ketosis and 'reversed' my type 2 diabetes, but as soon as I ate a piece of fruit my bg went wild. Then I stopped eating meat and my type 2 came back. It actually seems that our cells have space for either sugar or fat, but not both. If I stick to fruit and veg my bg is great - as soon as I add fat - especially in processed food - my bg goes haywire again.

Neither fat nor sugar is killing us. What is killing us is eating processed food in too large quantities and a sedentary lifestyle. Our grandparents ate meat with the fat on (yes, it's good for you), they ate lard, butter, cheese, consumed whole milk and they were never fat, were they. Because an hour on a machine is nothing in the scheme of things is it, what are you gonna do the rest of the day???? Nothing??? keep moving and stop worrying what you put in your mouth

I think the problem is the rigidity in the teaching. I was marked down for getting a right answer through any process other than the exact one the teacher used. Years later I took a night class and got praised for thinking of a different way. That came as a shock, to realize that math and creative thinking were not mutually exclusive.

I tried to like math in school. I really did. But when the educational system is based on fierce competition, with teachers working with only a few students in class and bullying the majority of others for "being idiots", that's really hard. Add that my mother would also bully me at home whenever she saw me doing somethin I enjoyed (watch a favorite movie, read a book): "stop wasting time with your b******t and start working on math!" The result was foreseeable - I hated math.

Some teachers have one way of explaining a math problem only but maths can be approached from many angles. My maths teacher explained one approach and you were an idiot if you didn't get it. My kids' teachers now explain a problem in different ways and encourage questions to help their students understand. My kids love maths and excel at it. I struggled all my life with it (despite taking a science degree) and I'm learning now from my kids things I just couldn't get as a kid.

I was recognised early as being very bright - but not at Maths. In those days, no one knew anything about learning styles or neurodiversity so it was a source of great frustration for both my teachers and me. I am visually oriented and have synaesthesia with numbers (it's all pictures to me). I do think a lot of advanced Maths is taught pointlessly to the life time needs of young students (and on very shaky foundations!) whereas a more solid grounding in real life Maths is of far great use: time, measurement, shapes, money, mental maths, percentages and fractions, order of operations.

I started out in English then fine arts. I was terrified of math because, really, most of my teachers were mean and nasty. I ended up doubling in math and physics. Art, actually, got me there. Proportions, chemistry in pigments, studying motion... But math.... It's so beautifully simple. And no one teaches us that. No one, until you are majoring init and taking a math philosophy class, ever tells you that math works because it is something we discover and not create. It is something we are still learning. And, yeah, it is, ultimately, the thing that can define and explain everything.

To this day I still love Avatar the Last Airbender. The animation is gorgeous, the stories are fascinating and meaningful, and the characters and their arcs are brilliantly handled. To this day Uncle Iroh has to be one of my favourite characters for his tragic backstory and movement toward kindness and empathy— his relationship with his troubled nephew, Zuko (another brilliant character) is beautiful. Although the show is targeted at children it handles a lot of deep themes like the idea of morality, love and loss of family, genocide, independence, etc with a healthy dose of humour. Still my comfort show in my early thirties.

Me too. I grew up with crappy Neapolitan Ice Cream - where the "vanilla" part is nearly tasteless. Then I encountered bourbon vanilla ice cream (that kind with tiny black spots aka actual tiny chunks of vanilla in it).

Creative Writing course at University. Professor shared a poem that had the f-bomb. Fellow student got offended and complained. Professor, who encouraged class discussions, replied that it was the author’s intent to elicit an emotional response. Student argued that the author could’ve chosen a different word. Professor asked, “which word could be substituted and still evoke the same emotional response?” There was no answer.

They had to ban an episode of Peppa Pig called "spiders are our friends". Not in the US, or UK, but... in Australia it's not a safe lesson to learn (at least not the way Peppa was approaching it). My boss's sister lives in Australia and was bitten by one of the more dangerous ones just by using a petrol pump - dangerous if provoked? Yeah, and also hidden where humans are regularly doing their thing and *not* seeking to provoke.

I love spiders and all they do but they regularly creep me out. Web making spiders give you an unexpected surprise when you walk into one of their creations. I'm glad they are keeping the insects down but it freaks me out when I walk into a web while letting the dog out at 2am in my PJs. On the other end, are the hunting spiders - they are so quiet and move so fast they cause jump scares all the time. A couple days ago, I'm brushing my teeth and I went to grab the toothpaste and a spider went running off it as I reached down. Neither one of us wanted harm to the other but I had not had any caffeine yet and I let out an audible yelp at the surprise.

This is a tough one for me to agree with but I do. As a Gay man coming of age in the late 70's, in a world populated with Anita Bryant and Phyllis Schlafly, as well as Orel Roberts, Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, I still have an automatic revulsion to religious people. It's not fair, and I consciously try to overcome it, but don't always succeed. There are so many good people who also happen to be religious, it's not fair to them that I have this instant chip on my shoulder.

That’s completely fair. I’m a lesbian and my father is a church minister. However, he’s been extremely accepting both of me and the rest of the LGBTQ+ community. When I came out to him, he simply gave me a thumbs-up and went back to his work as if it were the most normal thing in the world. It made me feel so understood and I’ve tried to imagine that there are more religious people like him out there.

Personally I don't believe in god and the reason is a long story for another time. My rule of thumb is if you bring up anything religious with me, I will nicely explain my view of religion and ask that we don't talk about it. If you continue then depending on our relationship level, I will either explain why or just walk away from you. I don't shove my views down others' throats, I expect the same level of respect in return.

The problem with religious people who are actually chill and not crazy is that, in the chill and non-crazy existence, they let the non-chill and crazy religious be their voice. Until they let their voice be heard more than the crazies voice I will continue to lump them all together as one big group of crazies. The way I see it, their silence is their acceptance of what the crazies do and say.

Wolves they are always the villian of the story but in real life they are scared of humans and they have every right. Just a few weeks ago a lot people killed a lot of wolves because its "wolf season" or something that of sorts. These creatures are very misunderstood and yeah they are big and can kill a human but it won't unless its hunrgy or threated. A long time ago, there was a wolf hunt in europe killing a lot of wolves. They are beautiful creatures, strong, fast, loyal to their pack, and very protective of their pack.

Most people don’t realize that small family-pack wolves) e.g. site, dam, and cubs) are quite capable of living on small rodents like mice and voles. Recommend reading/seeing “Never Cry Wolf” written by Farley Mowat(spelling). It’s beautiful, but the ending will make you cry and detest Brian Denehy.

I'm 41. Had my licence before I turned 19. Have not driven once since. I realised early on that I'm extremely sh@@ at it. I can do lots of things but driving is not one of them. It's not about lack of practice. It's about lack of abilities needed for this. I know myself. I know it would be dangerous to me and others for me to drive, so I do the responsible thing and I don't. And I get so much sh@@ for it. Like there's no way I can know myself better than this stranger who met me 5 minutes ago and can absolutely tell that I just need practice because that's how it worked for them.

Right? I got my license at 23 but never had a car until 30 so i couldnt practise. I used to get so anxious that sometimes i needed to stop, park and change seats with my partner because it was too much. Anything faster than 30km/h used to give me panic attacks. Then it was 40, then 50. I still dont dare to go to the highway but last week i drove at 90 for a while without paniking (still scared). Many people mock me for being irrationally afriad of the highway

It's the 1% ruining it for anyone else. No matter what someone ate for lunch, most people don't want a 10 minute description of it. In everyday life, I have more people corner me to tell me how great the quinoa was this afternoon than people who want to explain Virginia ham is better than Black Forest.

It's the "missionary vegans" that give this a bad name. Unfortunately almost all of them are of the missionary kind (my brother is one so I know what I'm talking about). There's this old joke: How do you identify vegans? You don't - but they will tell you.

This absolutely works in reverse too. When I was vegan, I'd have meat eaters constantly, and I mean constantly, make incredulous, snarky comments about my diet all the time. And no, I never offered up the fact I was vegan, nor lectured anyone else about their choices.

For me it has been the opposite of what others write here. When I still ate meat, not a single vegan or vegetarian bugged me and I usually had to guess that they were vegan. But since I am vegan, people want to talk about food with me *all the time* and I don't bring the topic up myself because I just want to be left alone with my choices. So many people have asked me why (health reasons are apparently way more acceptable than doing it for the animals or the environment), told me it's unhealthy (it's not if you inform yourself about nutrition, which you also should do if you eat meat) and explain to me what kind of meat they eat (I don't care). Also, how many vegans commented on this post compared to those who apparently feel compelled to tell everyone here that they are not vegan?

Like I don’t even listen to it, but whenever someone says they like country music, someone else is gonna gag in their face. A lot of it is formulaic, but so is pop. And most hit songs of any genre. And there’s also decent country music. The root of modern pop is country rock. Music snobs need to take a seat on this one.

Let people enjoy things. Music is art, and art is very personal. If you don’t like it, bring headphones. The only time it annoys me is if there’s gospel music in public places. Simply because gospel is very emotional and kind of moody. Like I just wanna sit here and eat my enchiladas and complain to my spouse about work that day. I’m not really in the mood to drop down on my knees in a fervent worship session at Jose Taco.

I hate Opera but I wouldn't make somebody feel second rate for listening to it. It's all a matter of personal taste, and everybody has their OWN taste. For music, movies, fashion, art, politics, food to be more literal about it xD Everybody has their own preferences. That's what makes us all unique. I have a preference for a foul mouth, so if you don't like or respect my taste in anything that I'm into you can just bend over and get f****d for all I care, you'll feel better afterwards. 👍🏻

A lot of responses seem to be in the camp of "let people like what they like," and although I agree with this, it works both ways. People are allowed to dislike music that they, for whatever reason, dislike. And I think the idea that there's a remotely universal dislike for country music is just plain wrong, given its popularity. I mean, I don't like it, but it doesn't seem any more universally disliked than rap, jazz, or many other types of music.

They are trying to make 'okay' something that isn't, that by definition is misogynistic. My cousin Karen was a 'Karen' long before it became a meme - we used it as a family insult before the internet was a thing. I will not apologise for using it for her (and only her) in that way - she's a chronically attenton-seeking and selfish cow and the first time it became an internet insult I laughed because it felt like validation. Now, I don't laugh. It's not funny any more and other perfectly lovely women have been caught in the crossfire. But the brain loves shortcuts, and if you were to ask me to imagine a whiny, selfish, narcissistic woman, who will stop at *nothing* to get her own way, I will picture Karen - my cousin. (She never had the "haircut", that's the one aspect I was never onboard for - it just looks like a minimal maintenance angled bob. I'd have *my* hair like that if the meme hadn't ruined it!)

And so many women are branded as 'Karens' without understanding the context of the situation ands including those who clearly have mental health issues. People who do this are the ones with problems, real problems.

Unemployed people. A lot of people genuinely are looking for work and did not want to lose their last job/it was beyond their control (like a layoff) but they get so much hate and called lazy by most people. I know too many unemployed people that are actually really trying hard. They definitely aren’t lazy. (Not saying lazy unemployed people don’t exist, but to be fair, so do lazy employed people too lol)

Worked in community services for a few years on a mandatory program for anyone on welfare to get them back to work. There were only three types of people 1. Want to work, 2. Absolutely unemployable at that moment in time, and 3. Incredibly lazy. There was hardly anyone in the lazy category. Some of the people experiencing homelessness or people addicted to drugs or alcohol wanted so so badly to get jobs but had too many personal challenges to be reliable enough to make it to work. Broke my heart.

Even if there were a lot of lazy people, laziness shouldn't be punishable by homelessness and starving.

True. Many people act like it's their fault that they didn't get a job not considering everything that these people went through and all the things that were out of their control. Calling the unemployed lazy is simply unfair and hurtful.

I'm unemployed by choice. But I'm also a stay at home father. The amount of hate I get for doing a "woman's job" is absurd. Like even people in my life that I didn't think had a misogynistic bone in their bodies

It's not my place to decide for you how you describe yourself but I would never describe being a stay at home father as being unemployed. I used to be a nanny and it is hard work, for sure. It's just not valued enough by society.

This should be way higher. There's such a big stigma to unemployed people that it's affecting their mental health. Often it involves being secretive about it which leads to isolation and ends in depressions. The self-esteem will be crushed at some point which makes it harder to find proper employment. Receiving more hate from people who don't understand the struggle makes the situation worse. Also being unemployed can be exhausting. For those who only understand the language of money, leave them be. Give them the time they need to get back on their feet without crushing one's dignity. The less they have to fight hate, the more they can focus on being a tax payer again.

Same with people on social assistance. There are a lot more people on it than you think you see. Not everyone on social assistance is not working. Some are working part time until they can find a full time job, even. I could write out a list, but then it would just sound like excuses or sob stories, but are very real to the people who are going through it. It's not really a choice, and is there as a last resort. The people collecting welfare are not actually allowed to live on it forever. It's a meticulous and violating process. EIA workers want to see proof of your medical records. They make assumptions to women about having kid after kid to stay on, so they want proof of your birth control plan. Doesn't matter if you're disabled, have kids on a waiting list for daycare, or pregnant, or dealing with mental health/addiction recovery they want you to be actively seeking for every day and provide proof.

No one in their right minds really wants to be earning a living with EIA/welfare/dole money, or whatever you call it in your region. Anyone can fall into hard times and find yourself at the unemployment office or welfare office. The programs are there for those in need. Not for people just choosing to up and quit their job on their own terms and refuse to work. It doesn't work like that.

Nuclear energy. Of the 3 big nuclear accidents (Chernobyl, Fukushima, Three Mile Island), two of those designs are no longer in use at any plant, and none of the designs have been used to build any new plants in decades. The entire industry has been made far safer as a result of learning from past mistakes and it is now the greenest of energies. But many people are still adamantly anti-nuclear.

The waste storage is simple. Put it in a warehouse or a played out mine. Basically what’s already being done. It’s not a lot of waste, for the amount of energy generated. Compared to the daily ecological disaster that is our current carbon emissions from coal plants it’s very manageable.

Um... there are at least 2 reactors of the same design as chernobyl still in operation last I checked. They had some safety updates but are essentially the same plant. Fukushima had no real need of change because it was a wall that engineers thought no wave would ever be able to get over that caused the accident. And TMI-1 was still operating until a few years ago. It was the exact same design as TMI 2. I really don't get the comment that those designs are no longer used. All the of them are still in use

The problem is that those past mistakes are still affecting things. Sure, the designers may have learned from it, but that doesn't do anything to mitigate the ongoing radiation.

Keurtzgezagt (?) Did a comparison of how many deaths nuclear energy has caused in the absolutely worst case estimates vs the deaths caused by fossil fuels. Spoiler the entire history of nuclear has killed only a fraction of the people fossil fuels kill in a year. But its the same reason people are afraid to fly but drive every day, despite flying being extremely safe and driving being actually really dangerous.

The problem with nuclear energy is that most people don't even know how it works, and medias don't help by spreading a lot of bs. Nuclear plants are safe, they cannot blow up - I hear a lot of people confusing nuclear power plants and nuclear bombs. Security protocols are strictly in place, and I know from first hand experience that they work immediatly in case of an incident. Waste management is a non problem, the amout if waste is nothing for the amout of power generated, it can be buried deep in very geologically stable ground. Nuclear fission reactors even occur naturally like in Oklo, Gabon. It's sad to see nuclear fission get such a bad rap, because unless we can come up with fusion, no amout of so called green energy will be able to sustain our modern lifestyle, especially when the switch to EV is done.

People Name 50 Things That Should Not Be So Universally Hated But Somehow Are Meteorologists. They try their best to predict the weather based on patterns, models, and data. They're not perfect because predicting the weather is insanely difficult. When they get it wrong, I think we should go easy on them. It was probably an outlier result almost no one could have foreseen.

There are two big misconceptions about forecasting. First, is the failure in educating people about probabilities. If there's an 80% chance of rain, that means when the weather is like what it is now 800 days out of 1000 it will rain later. That's a lot. But it also means 200 days out of 1000 it won't rain. The meteorologist didn't mess up if it didn't rain. With advancements in technology and urban growth, the forecast is for increasingly larger areas. I live in a western US state. When the nightly news meteorologist says there's a 80% chance of rain, they are usually talking about an 80% chance of rain in an area 250 miles East to West and 150 miles North to South - its going to rain somewhere in that 37500 sq mile area. The Doppler Radar can only go 50 miles out but they still send out tornado watches for my mom's town 160 miles away.

People think if the forecast predicts rain then it mean rain over their community and don't factor in that one part of the city may have completely different weather than another part of the city, and that rainstorm across the city might not reach their neck of the woods.

1.) 'Nobody said veganism or non-veganism was a religion' I was highlighting that your analogy was p**s poor. 2.) 'No, calling ahead to a restaurant to request something different from what is on their menu is not valid.' A polite enquiry from a potential customer not valid? Riiiight. Your twisted outlook is becoming apparent. Also, and it's a biggy, how does one know what's on the menu without contacting them inadvance? 3.) 'is a perfect example of the entitled, self-righteousness felt by many non-vegans' And there you are ... bigotry and hatred. 4. 'how vegans have to tell you they are vegan.' Don't you see how that's illogical? I'll try to explain: you're assuming everyone informs you of their diet. And by not telling you those who don't are excluded from from your data and hence you've made a false interpretation. 5.) 'If one place doesn't serve what you like, go to another restaurant that does.' Er .. I'm not a vegan.

I just hate the argument "I'm not a pessimist in a realist" you're going to find what you look for. If you look for the bad or what can go wrong you will find it. If you look for the good in a situation you will find it. We need both kinds of people in the world honestly

Yeah, it's not that simple. I'm someone who thinks both the best and worst case scenario in any situation and I always am aware of the chance of everything going wrong. And that's not because I always want to be right, but that so much shït has happened in my life that I have learned how to keep my sanity and that was by putting both my feet firmly to the ground and stopping expecting the best, cos it doesn't always happen. It doesn't mean I'll mock someone or anything for being an optimist, but there is optimism and there is delusion. And if I truly care about a person and they need a good dose of reality, I shall give it to them.

People seem to think that cynicism is cooler and more sophisticated. I actually think cynicism is lazy AF and then it takes a lot of work to be optimistic. And optimism is far more likely to make a positive difference because we think creativity and find solutions when we're resourceful and optimistic. When we're afraid and pessimistic, the creative, problem solving parts of our minds shut down.

Optimism makes people get their hopes up. When you get your hopes up, and are let down, it is generally more painful or disappointing. It's easier to to be pessimistic because there is less likely a chance of being hurt or disappointed.

Anything that’s popular/mainstream is such because it’s just so amazing and original that everyone just loves it, or because it’s engineered to be a safe rehashed, proven product to maximize the chance of having a broad appeal. The former is rare and timeless. The latter is dime a dozen and you won’t even remember it two years from now. I just wait until everyone I know can’t stop talking about it, then I check it out.

I love diving with sharks, they really are such beautiful creatures. I wish more people would experience life under the ocean to see how beautiful it is and maybe experience first hand all the harm that is happening down there. Every dive my partner and I collect bag loads of rubbish, it's getting quite heartbreaking.

Depends on what you’re cooking at home too. A fast food meal can be the nutritional equivalent of a lot of typical American home-cooked meals- particularly processed or “quick meals”. Neither is good for you, but nutritionally it doesn’t make a difference.

You spend an hour cooking? On the days I don't feel like cooking I cook some rice (I don't need to stir them while they get cooked) and when they are done I toss some meat in that has been cooked/prepared at the factory and thus can be eaten straight from the fridge. The rice will quickly warm the meat pretty well and then I put graded cheese on top or just add some ketchup. I lived on this type of food a lot when I studied at the uni. It's cheap, fast and not too bad nutrition-wise. :)

Snakes, okay *some* snakes. I can understand a fear or phobia of snakes because we're instinctually afraid of them. Even if you're not scared of them, if you touch or see a snake you'll probably get a shiver up your spine or get goosebumps since they were a big problem for our race WAY back when. Hating snakes though? most of them leave you alone and mind their business as long as you mind yours.

Definitely the way to go with snakes - leave them alone. In Australia, if walking through the bush or long grass in summer then have a long stick to bash ahead of you, letting the snakes warning and a chance to vacate. Watch where you put your feet. I have had them in my suburban back yard but here in Perth, if you have a cat or a blue tongued lizard, your chance of a snake encounter is diminished.

I have been working customer service in call centers for over 20 years. The number of people who think it is alright to verbally abuse someone on the other end of the line simply because they don't like the answer you give them is staggering. And in those 20+ years, it gets worse each year. I have heard from other reps that they have been told to just kill themselves because they will never amount to any more than the shitty person they are, to go f**k various relatives, and many more horrible things. THIS IS NOT OK! These people are trying to make ends meet and a good majority of them simply want to help, but sometimes rules are rules and we can't change them no matter how nasty you are. We are more willing to go above and beyond for someone who is respectful.

I've been doing call centre work for years, too. I still cry but now I've been physically beating myself up. It's not the most hardest job in the world, in fact it's easy. But the mental fuckery that people put you through messes with your brain. People literally think you're steering driver for the whole company, a God, a Messiah who has all the control and power of all decisions and policies. Meanwhile, I'm just sitting there, listening to music in one ear and wondering when that little ringing in my ears will go away, and nervously hoping the next person will be a little bit kinder. When I deal with customer support I make sure I'm very nice to them, patient and thank them with some praise for their work.

I don't hate on the Prius itself. I hate on the drivers. I'm not sure if this has improved as I don't have over an hour long commute to and from work anymore. Back when I was spending a lot of time on the road they were 9/10 the most a-hole-ish drivers (didn't signal, changed lanes sporadically, generally unaware of anything going on around them) so I did everything to avoid them.

Have you seen Tesla drivers?? They're just lazy drivers and oblivious to other traffic. Sticking on that middle lane forever. (Here you dont drive middle lane, you drive the lane on the right, unless overtaking.)

I want to set up something on my own vehicle, just for those coal tuners, that is so thick and noxious that it causes their truck to stutter or possibly die because it can't get enough fresh air for combustion. Bonus points if they happen to have their windows down.

Certainly in the UK they are widely used by private taxi companies. Their drivers more often than not are terrible. One of my friends had a Prius until recently. Something went wrong with it which turned out to be terminal. But he had it for over 10 years

Personally, I've owned two Prius so far and I find them to be a lot of fun to drive. With the engine and motor in front and that heavy traction battery in the rear, you can have a lot of fun drifting around corners...

I absolutely LOVE COLDPLAY. I'M A MASSIVE FAN. They always make me feel better when I'm down. But they get so much hate, because apparently their music is too depressing/repetitive/pop. But actually, they are a real creative band and just love to experiment. Every album has a unique theme to it, I'll never get bored of Coldplay! Especially AHFOD gets hate for being too happy/pop.. but the guitar solos. AMAZING. They're probably the only band to do transition tracks, and I LOVE how the chorus is sometimes a guitar solo! Also, let me add; Chris Martin's voice is absolutely stunning. Its on another level. And you can tell he puts so much effort and emotion into his singing. Also, they donate TONS to charity, still get hate. They're people too! THANK YOU CHRIS MARTIN, JONNY BUCKLAND, GUY BERRYMAN, WILL CHAMPION! FOR EVERYTHING!!!

Oh, the way it is designed it def is p2w. But you are correct, as long as you just follow the story you don't have to buy anything. That's the way I use it. I play the story and then it gets off my device. What most gamers talk about is everything that comes after the storyline. There are many p2w games out there. Companies need to make money somehow with a "free" game. Activision/ Blizzard just takes the cake with this one.

In Canada, a group of Syrian refugees was booked at a hotel while they got sorted and could figure out where they would be living ect. Unknown to the organizers, the hotel was hosting a local furry convention at the time. The Syrian children, likely terrified from fleeing the ongoing war in their home city, were greeted with brightly coloured and sympathetic fursuits who were absolutely delighted to share a hug with scared children.

Many studies show that being a furry can be a successful coping mechanism that encourages social engagement. Many furries self identify as being on the autism spectrum as it allows them to have more successful social interactions that avoid parts of it they struggle with like direct eye contact, not smiling, and reading facial expressions.

The discussion of dislikes and preferences is a topic that resonates with many, as seen in the way people express their loathing towards certain foods or experiences. Exploring the reasons behind these dislikes, whether they stem from experiences or societal norms, can be fascinating.

If you're intrigued by the idea of shared dislikes, you might want to delve into the concept of what creates shared antipathy among people.

Knitting is the process used to make the fabric. You can be allergic to the material it's made out of, probably wool, but knitting can be done with any type of material (as long as it can be put on long thin strands). There's a meme of someone that knitted noodles with chopsticks. I don't think you can be allergic to knitting.

No knitware for me, sorry! I have psoriasis and my skin is very sensitive. Anything with a knitted pattern on it imprints into my skin and makes me itch like hell. Wearing a plain shirt under it does not really help either....

Allergy to wool here. Both kids are too. I buy cotton or acrylic jerseys. I do however have a base layer made of merino wool and it's been fine. I can't explain this.

Honestly, I think Reddit gets more hate than it should. Don’t get me wrong, the company itself has a lot of problems, but I feel like there’s this persisting stereotype that Reddit is just a bunch of edgy incels, and it’s just not true anymore (if it ever was). Sure, there are some bad subreddits out there, but mostly what I see, especially in the bigger subreddits, is a really diverse user base in age, experience, and identity.

Reddit is FILLED with people who hate anyone who doesn't agree with their views. Same here. So many people simply can't handle people with differing views.

Yes. If it wasn't for a (closed) subreddit for victims of DV I would have never been able to find the strength and resources I needed to get out. I'm pretty sure it saved my life.

I have found some genuinely useful threads on Reddit. Useful life hacks, cooking tips, computer advice. It's just a public conversation forum for any and all topics. I can see how the outlier stuff that turns people off but you don't have to participate in those conversations.

People Name 50 Things That Should Not Be So Universally Hated But Somehow Are Police officers. Sure there are the occasional that go on power trips, but there are far more just doing their job. And chances are that the only reason you had a bad experience with one is because you were doing something wrong to begin with.

My best friend's fiancé', a policeman just outside of Cleveland, was ambushed, and he and his partner were killed 40 years ago. 3 felons who didn't want to go back to jail, went back to jail.

Whoaaaaaa - no. Sorry OP, but no. There are plenty of police that are good individuals, but that doesn’t make the institution good. The culture is absolute s**t. I understand that those on ground see some real s**t. But the administration side doesn’t prioritise mental health wounds and the internal demand for unwavered loyalty causes a breeding ground for some super unsavoury people to thrive.

They actively deprioritise nental health. You see a mental health proffessional and now no one wants to work with you becauae " you' re unstable". Never mind that you are more stable than if you never dealt with the issue.

Isn't it strange that people never highlight the good work done by police forces? They only ever seem to be in the news for bad stuff. If a family member is murdered you are not going to get the local checkout people to investigate, you will, normally ask the police. Crowds storming the capitol building? Obviously, you are going to get the local dog-walkers association to control the crowds. 99% of the police are trying to do a good job.

So how come when you have a rotting apple in your box and leave it in there for a week, you will say "man, my apples are spoiled"? So rather than complaining about how people say the apples are bad, you should make it easier o sort out the bad apples before the rest of them get infected. Because apples are generally good!

That's some racist s**t said right there. Sure maybe somewhere else than in US this might be true, but the chances are that if a police officer is misstreating you, you haven't done anything wrong except being born.

People Name 50 Things That Should Not Be So Universally Hated But Somehow Are Simon Cowell, at least back in the day when American Idol was huge in the US. People always called him mean, but from what I could tell he was basically right all the time, and he didn't sugar coat things because he had to make up for every other judge sugar coating their feedback so much. There were probably instances of him taking things too far, but I never saw that myself.

I think the whole "put the bad auditioners on TV just to laugh at how deluded they are," was pretty nasty, and while he wasn't the orchestrator behind that, he was a big part of what made it entertaining for people. I've also heard him tell people to give up singing; these people are not good enough to be solo performers, but that doesn't mean they ought to give up something they enjoy!

Can't say anything about the group themselves, or any interaction I had with their fans, but it's more for the repetition of their song with Coldplay that airs on the radio at least twice a day. I swear, despite the radio station advertising the "No Repeat Workday", I hear that song (and others) on average twice to three times a day. And there's also the fact it's not my cup of tea genre wise, as I'm more of a rock fan, but that's just splitting hairs at that point. And every fanbase will always have that subsection which makes the fandom difficult to be apart of/are toxic, which always gives the fanbase a bad rap.

This is why streaming services exist. Make your own playlists of artists you like so you don't have to listen to songs you don't like on the radio. I haven't used a radio in over 5 years, and I feel so much better when I forget all these generic artists who keep releasing songs with the same stories but different lyrics. Worse are the songs that go viral, like Harlem Shake and that Barbara Streisand song by Duck Sauce.
