“Man, I Freaking Hate People”: 35 Habits That Make Others Lose Their Cool
In some sense, the fact that humans still exist is nothing short of a miracle. After all, we’re not exactly the easiest species to get along with.
Just take a look at this Reddit thread, where people have gone on a rant about the things others do that drive them mad. From slow walkers and rude shoppers to buzz killers and law breakers, the list is long—and let’s be honest, probably not long enough. Check out their posts below and feel free to vent your own frustrations in the comments!

Animal cruelty and people who abuse children.
I'll never not feel enraged/sick and upset at the same time by it.
But, don't people BECOME bad by having bad habits? Habits that put a burden on other, non-consenting, sentient beings? Slap the Kid, kick the Dog, scream at the Cat, and let Grandma marinade her butt, "because she'll forget within an hour anyway", and such? I mean ... if not the suffering we cause others to endure is what makes us bad people, what even is at all? And what we do, largely, developes into habits we repeat over and over again, maybe having decided on them by choice and rational thought, or maybe just by being used to them? One bad thing, we all do now and then. I stumbled over my cat yesterday, and I'm sure I hurt her. But, I'd never even think about kicking her, let alone regularly, I love her.
Load More Replies...You can have your opinions on not being an animal person or not liking kids, but to do harm to them puts you in another category/level of evil, sorry not sorry
The reason we’re here is to look after the smaller and weaker; to stand up for them and protect them from the bullies out in the world—-NOT be the bullies ourselves. So if it’s an animal, or a child, or an old person, or someone in a wheelchair, or anyone at all, who is vulnerable, who is being abused, STAND UP and help them! Because one day, that vulnerable person may be YOU.
And - parents - encourage your kids to dress as *they* want, not as some creep on the internet tells them to
My dad-who-was-never-a-dad. I will never forgive him for throwing my dog halfway across the living room just because he was having a bad day. Plus he beat on us kids.
The same should be done to the abuser. The only time I believe in 'an eye for an eye'
Cruelty and abuse of any living being. There I fixed it for ya.

People who say "Oh it's their job to clean up after me" or "I'm making sure that they're still employed" as an excuse for not cleaning up after themselves in public.
Like NO.
You don't leave a soda spilled everywhere and then not even *attempt* to clean it up.
You don't leave rolls and rolls of toilet paper all over the floor in the bathroom.
You don't leave bags of popcorn and drinks and popcorn all over a theater floor and seats.
Take responsibility.
*Clean. Up. Your. Mess.*.
As a café/restaurant worker cleaning people's mess is my job, but serving them is too and we don't have a separate cleaner. So what pisses me off the most is people whining about a slow service. Well, I would be right there serving you If I wasn't forced to clean the pigsty some people leave in their tables.
I remember when I was younger and living in the city, I'd always wipe down my table when I left. That was pretty common in the neighborhood I lived in. It was a neighborhood filled with punks, artists, old hippies and randos like me. That was ten years ago and I moved back out to the country and where I work, people hold that mentality of "well, it's their jobs". That always kind of got under my skin. Sad fact is I revisited my old neighborhood, noticed how it changed. A lot of the old hippies either died or were forced out due to climbing costs, the artists and punks have all but disappeared and the coffee shop I used to hangout at has shut down. I miss those days.
Load More Replies...It amazes me at how messy and trashed a movie theater can be after the show is over b/c people can't pick up their garbage and throw it away in the readily available garbage bins. Sure some popcorn will get dropped here and there, but man, leaving candy wrappers, nacho containers, cups, bags, etc. strewn all over where you sat? Shameful! And it's mostly from grown azz adults! As long as I've been working in the movie theater business, it baffles me how people can behave as if they have no home training.
This is only tangentially related, but it somehow felt appropriate. The last time I went to see a movie, as soon as the show ended and the lights went up, there was a man looking for a ring he'd dropped. Cue the entire room full of strangers helping him look for his lost ring. It restored a bit of my faith in humanity. He found the ring, BTW.

It should be normal, shouldn't it? Why is getting special because too many people misbehave themselves?
Load More Replies...It is our job to clean up after you, but it's not our ONLY job. Trust me when I say we have enough clean up to do without you being a possum hemroid about it.
Let's be honest here. This is all about lack of respect for other people.
And you definitely DON'T leave dirty diapers on chairs, tables, and the floor in public.
In Korea before the movie they have ads that come on, they show the exit route (not the same way you come in, the exits bring you out to the lobby or even the outside of the theatre sometimes) and they also have a little cartoon reminding people to bring their garbage with them and throw it out in the cans as they exit. I never saw anyone leave garbage behind in the theatres there! I’ve always brought my garbage with me and thrown it out in the trash cans in the theatre, both in Korea and at home in Canada.
After working as a critical care nurse for years now, you’d think it would be the countless IV d**g abusers or alcoholics that’s I treat in the MICU.... but it’s not my patients that make me think that. It’s their families.
I get that *most* of the time, people are nervous for their loved ones...they don’t want to lose their parent. But I see this situation happen over and over... when it’s time, people can’t just let go.
So 95 year old nana comes in and has trouble breathing. We ask her if she would want to be intubated if necessary and says no. She doesn’t want that or CPR. But there isn’t a form and her daughter is healthcare proxy... too bad the family doesn’t respect that.
So we tube her. But her blood pressure can’t handle the sedation, so we need to start pressors. Then she develops a pneumonia, so we’ve got to pump her with antibiotics. But oops, too bad she’s already gone septic. Start some more pressors, who care if she loses a few fingers and toes in the process, we’ve got a BP right!? Get some bedside dialysis going too, might as well. Until ultimately, we tell the family it’s getting to be futile and we should really just make her comfortable for her own sake.
But no. They don’t agree. F**k your years of schooling and experience. So nana codes. I do chest compressions and break all of her ribs in the process. We shock her and slam her with d***s and fluids for a half hour until eventually there’s literally nothing more to do.
I’m sorry I know this was such a long rant. I just got off an overnight. But his happens so often and every single time I just think of the agony we put this person through in their last days on earth all because a family couldn’t respect their loved one’s wishes.
Please. When it’s time just let me pump them with morphine and Ativan and let them go in peace and comfort.
My mother complained that a friend didn't want his dying mother to get mood-altering painkillers. Effing idiot didn't want her to be a dr*g addict. I joked to my mother, "If you were dying, you could do all the dr*gs you want - heroin, LSD..."
Load More Replies...If she was fully able to express her wishes to you, the hospital should not have turned to her proxy for decisions at all. Health care proxies should only apply when a patient is incapacitated.
My mother always said she didn't want to be a vegetable. My father wouldn't let my mother go in peace at the geriatric ward, no matter how bad her dementia was, and even after he lost interest in seeing her. I would find it hard to let my husband go, but it would also hurt me to see him helpless and miserable.
The nurse's words really hit close to my heart. My father refused to let my mother go, even when he lost interest in her. My dad justified prolonging her dementia with "She's still eating" - and she was in a wheelchair, being spoon-fed and unhappy. I've seen people in wheelchairs needing to be spoon-fed, who could still enjoy life - they smiled, they were alert, they expressed themselves well just through facial expressions. My mother was obviously not able to get pleasure out of life, even before she was so helpless.
Load More Replies...My S-I-L wanted to do that with her dad. Luckily we were able to put a stop to it and let him go with dignity
This is why I have a 15-page healthcare directive. Plus I have promised my family that if they do not just let me die, I will HAUNT THEM TO DEATH.
In Canada, we can ask our Doctor for a DNR request, and he'll file your wishes, and you can carry a document with the file #, and that should do it. At least, I hope so.
We have that in the US too, but a lot of times families don't respect their wishes. :(
Load More Replies...I'm only speculating, but can you imagine dealing with a family who might threaten litigation because "Nana wasn't in her right mind when she said that"? That's why it's important to have wills & medical directives in place as soon as you can. You can always make updates if you change your mind, but I imagine it's often a nightmare to fight the families when there is no prior directive in place other than a chosen proxy.
Load More Replies...My youngest is terminally ill and we have a DNR. So many people are shocked by this. I am not putting my child through a hellscape of pain just to comfort me. I am hoping he passes without pain or suffering.
If there's no hope of living, there should at least be the hope of being pain-free. It's so hard to lose a child. May he go comfortably and may your grief be a bit lighter knowing that you did the very best for him.

People who litter. Especially when there is a bin literally a metre away.
I live in a busy street and I despise the people who park up just to throw their fast food wrappers out of the car instead of taking them home
This pisses me off to no end. I live in a resort / ski area and people who come here for the weekend / week that are too damned lazy or cheap to take their garbage to the dumpsters (free but "out of their way") or transfer station (it's $1 per bag) and instead they'll toss it on the side of the road. Ski area... mountains and pines... TONS of wildlife... HUNGRY wildlife that will rip apart those bags and strew them all over the highways. What a mess. What aśsholes!
Load More Replies...There's a bench in front of my house and there's constantly teenagers that litter and eat sunflower seeds even with a bin literally attached to the bench! There's been a couple of times when I walked out and put a broom in their hands, making them clean up! It irritates the hell out of me!!!!
Also people who allow their dogs to foul in public and not clean it up.
Unless it's Toronto. In which case the bins have been over full for three months
Might seem trivial but it f*****g drives me nuts when people get off an escalator and just stop and decide where they want to go next... It's like I can't stop this thing you need to keep moving. Also people who stand in doorways.
Edit: Wow I am soo glad others feel the same.
Also thank you kind stranger for my first gold!
Yup! Or put cart on one side of the isle while browsing the other boxxing up the whole aisle.

It's not all about you, move! This also happened with people who cross the road and then stop. Like, do you want the rest of us to get killed when the light turns red? Move!
Or when you're getting on a bus and the first person in line starts fumbling for change or his/her transit card

There are a number of clearly more "serious" poor behaviors on this list. Yet THIS one bothers me the most. You had the whole ride up / down to figure out which way you need to go. The others behind you can't stop or pause, so yeah, just step off the escalator and block the way. It's really a tie between this and people who stand at the checkout for minutes while their purchases are being checked out and the clerk says "That will be XX dollars" and it they look flabbergasted and THEN pull out the checkbook and start filling out the check. Like, ???
By the way, you no longer have to fill out checks, they run them tthe machine and you sign on the same machine that you all p**s with entering your pin number,

Plastic litter on nature trails is really f****d up to me, like how does one enjoy a nature trail and at the same time think it's ok if we all toss Gatorade bottles there?
And people who decorate trees with plastic bags full of dog poo, ug! Take all your little home with you.
And it seems the stupid people are the ones having more kids and increasing the number of stupid people in the world.
Load More Replies...Pack out what you packed in. I have lived this my whole life and usually end up packing out more than I packed in cuz idiots leave all their trash behind.
My late husband and I went camping for a week on our Anniversary every year. When the kids were young we took them with us, after they grew up and moved away we went just the two of us. Every single time we camped we cleaned our area before we unloaded and set up camp and we cleaned up after ourselves before leaving. The State and National Parks belong to all of us!
Or at campsites. The plastic bags of people's poo just barely hidden over an otherwise gorgeous landscape like the world's worst easter egg hunt...
I saw a poo bag in a nature reserve hanging on a fence. 🤦
Load More Replies...One nature trail near me stopped providing bins, They say "It's more Eco conscious if everyone takes their rubbish home with them". And everyone just uses the Cafe bin despite it saying "only for customers"
Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time.
Just what gives you the right to leave your trash behind for others to pick up?
People who mistreat animals. I just can't fathom the mindset that enables someone to hurt truly innocent creatures.
My sentiments exactly. Nothing makes my blood boil more!
And people who don't teach their kids that animals are living creatures with their own thoughts & wants & weren't put on this Earth for our amusement & they most certainly aren't toys!
Looking at my local buy and sell, it's amazing how many cats and dogs there's for sale when they are between 1 and 2 years old. I guess when the charm of having an animal has faded? Or else there's hundreds of people really "sadly found out I'm allergic" and I can keep my faith in humanity...
Load More Replies...I wanted to do a good deed so I petsat (?) a cat for 5 months between their different homes. The first home couldn't keep her after her first litter of kittens and the professional cat breeder didn't have a new home lined up immediately so she stayed here. I thought the cat breeder was kind of nice (found her on a help wanted site) until she asked if I would permanently take in a male cat. He has done his duties at 4 years old (!!!) and if I don't take him "I will just have to put him down because I can't have unnecessary cats here". (Loosly translated to English, but you get the idea) My heart broke, just 4 years old and dumped on the trashheap. He lived in several "homes" during that time, locked in cages but whit small outside ground, and also living at a breeder that was a hoarder of cats that just peeped and pooped whereevee in her house. He's so terribly afraid of people and so scared it breaks my heart seeing his photos. That cat has big sad eyes and ears that folds sadly 😭🐈
I’d almost wonder if this applies to a majority of people. While only a minority will actively torture animals for fun, many people (I dare say most) would happily injure or kill wildlife they don’t get along with, and an even greater number of people would leave an animal to die if they hit it on the road.
Just asking ( and bracing myself for a torrent of downvotes) but - are rats animals?
I once met a St Bernard that had been mistreated by humans, and was scared of humans. Her SCREAMS of fear when she saw unknown humans was horrible to listen to. (She was now living with good people and in therapy, but taking her to a party with many humans was probably too soon.)
I realise that this comment is not really relevant but, as soon as I looked into those eyes I just wanted to take this dog home and share cuddles.
I think one of the problems is that most of us don't really know them and how they think. We harbor erroneous expectations. Cartoons, movies and tv shows have presented their trained non-human performers as if they're just an average representation of their species. Nope. All of our companions benefit when we learn a lot more about them.
People who do not care about others in public. Watching a movie/playing music on their phone without headphone. Playing loud music in a park. Taking all the space in public transport. Talking loudly. Letting dirt behind them.
And people who have loud 'conversations' on mobiles in the quiet carriage - though sometimes pretending to have your own conversation, on an invisible mobile, on the lines of "Sorry, I can't hear you, some entitled Neanderthal is using his mobile in the quiet carriage" has been known to work.
I live a fair drive away from the beach, so when I go there, I like to make a day of it. One time I was lucky enough to be there on a really warm summer's evening and the surf was so calm. I was so looking forward to just sitting quietly to watch the sun setting over the beach, when a group of guys came and set up their stuff right near us (me, my husband and our daughter) and started playing music LOUDLY. It ruined the moment for everyone - as there were many couples and families sitting quietly or paddling in the warm water. They stunk up the beach with smoking weed too. They were drunk and stoned, so we didn't feel safe asking them to turn it down. We ended up leaving. WHY do people feel the need to play loud music in a public place?
...its a public place. theres no expectation of silence.
Load More Replies...And parents of kids who let them do this too! Especially on public transit or even worse, on an airplane! Speaking from personal experience! Buy your kid headphones, or make them play with the sound off, or on the lowest setting!
That I've seen old men whistle and harass 11-14 y.o girls! That happened to me as well, but I have the courage to call them out with people around. I can't imagine what shy 11 year old girls feel when they get treated that way. I'm fourteen but I've already got slapped on the butt by an older dude, and when I talk about it with people they say " Oh, you should have not dressed S O S L U T T Y " ( I literally wore a t-shirt and jeans )
NO MATTER HOW A GIRL DRESSES, DON'T BE A CREEP
Ps. And I know I'll get a response saying something in the lines of " oH bUt iT hApPeNs tO mEn tOo ", yes but come on! How many times have you seen a grown woman harass a tween boy, and how many times have you seen a man doing the same thing to a girl? That's like a 2:10 ratio, if not more.
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that wise men do nothing" - Don't just watch harassment, speak out against it - at the time !
You're assuming that's what everyone wants. You don't know that.

Guys, never say anything to a woman on the street that you wouldn't want a man to say to you in prison.
Some guys need a reality check. You're too f*****g old and they're too young. Grow up guys.
1) 2/10 should be reduced to 1/5 2) Men who actually care about this happening don't actually see it, because the men that do it don't do it in front of them, these creeps can spot another man that isn't on their side, I wish women could figure out how to spot the ones that are
It DOES happen to men, too, but you know what? It's often far less threatening when a woman threatens a man. (Emphasis on often, not always.) For instance, men CAN be raped, but it's much rarer. So an overtly sexual comment by a woman is often nothing but an inappropriate compliment, not recklessly threatening. (Yes, of course, ANY sexual overture to an underage person is absolutely unacceptable.)
Oh my God, you're only 14! My heart hurts for you. It happens to young girls way more than young boys. Who tf in your life called you slutty??? As a Mom I want to slap their face so hard!
Hunting endangered animals for sport.
Hunters of endangered species, and poachers, should be stripped naked and shoved into a cage with a hungry predator. People can then take bets on how long the schmuck will survive. I know that's an awful thing to write, but a lot of people feel that way.
Load More Replies...Agreed, if it's for sport. Hunting for survival and not more than necessary, that's ok in my book.
I for one feel zero empathy when a hunted animal unalives a hunter. GO ANIMAL

Graffiti on historical monuments/buildings.
"we're not vandals, we're street artists! We're beautifying the city" Unless you've been commissioned by the owner of the property, you're defacing property, and the only opinion regarding your "art" that matters, is the opinion of the person who owns the property.
No excuse but ancient Pompei is covered with graffities carved into its walls. Even some of the cave paintings have "interesting" pictures here and there.
I'm sure that the hostel owner in Pompeii was going to scrub off all that graffiti, cursing all the while, but he ran out of time. Some guy's contribution to that mighty river which is Western Civilization will forever be "Miximus in lecto fateor peccavimus". (Meaning we wet the bed, we admit it)
Load More Replies...There is difference between graffiti as an urban art form and the shjtty tags that that are smeared on everything. On my daily train commute i pass by some great murals and graffiti that deffinately improve the boring backwalls of some industial warehouses and gray walls along the tracks...
Boring gray concrete walls are good for graffiti. Historical monuments, not so much!
Graffiti in general, unless the building owner gives them permission. But then it should be a picture with actual artistic value, and not just a stupid, ugly tag.
People who don’t return their grocery cart. Like, who do you think you are?
It should not be free: in Europe you'd need to use a coin to unlock it. Of course, that's not the reason I'm returning it, but might be the reason for an American.
It's a good idea, but please don't lump all Americans together. As always, it's a few boneheads giving everyone else a bad name.
Load More Replies...I used to work at soul-sucking jobs that paid little, worked you to death, and treated you like you were subhuman or a robot. Pisses me off to see someone think so little of a fellow human being. I actually recently confronted a woman who just punched her cart in the “general direction” of the cart return. Of course it wasn’t anywhere near it. She actually said there are employees to do it. I said that’s not their only job. That they’re paid so little they have to go on food stamps to feed their families (yep, it was Walmart), and they’re worked so hard and treated so badly, that the LEAST the rest of us can do is return our OWN damned carts! Oh, I embarrassed her, because there were other people around. Since she just stood there like a helpless idiot, I grabbed her cart and put it in the cart return, and got in my car. Caught a glimpse of her scuttling to her car with a very red face.
Almost worse are the people who have an excuse. "Oh, i have kids, i can't return my cart easily!" Yes, Debra, yes you can. You are lazy and entitled. Period. And if you have a disability keeping you from returning it: how did you get it to your car in the first place? I'm sure there are a few that have legitimate disabilities that prevent it, but i feel like it's 0.000001% of the people who claim to.
This makes me SO mad! The other day I went to pull in to a parking spot at the grocery store and some jerk had just left their cart sitting there so no one could use the space. I took it inside with me. It was literally only 6 feet from the store!
That's very unusual in my country. Most people return the carts. We used to have coins unlocking the carts, but then we switched moneys, and the new coins have different sizes to the old ones, and all the locks have disappeared. People still do like they used to do, perhaps because they like knowing where to pick up carts, and like to not accidentally hit a cart with their car while leaving the parking lot...
They will leave it 20 feet from the storage area. You can walk to your car but not another 20 feet? What kind of jerk does that?
People who leave their dogs or babies in a hot car!
I had a rental car that had an auto reminder to check the back seat. it wasn't until the end of the trip I realized it wasn't remember your bag/case. it was to remember your KID!!!
This article says it’s about people “hating humanity,” but I’ve yet to SEE any humanity. BP’s mostly good with English, but they seem to have made a serious error here, as none of these so far involves ANY humanity. (Huh; maybe I should be grateful, as I’d likely end up very depressed. 😞)
I’d call 911 and/or break the glass. I would adopt the animal myself because people like that don’t deserve a pet. They don’t understand the concept of treating them like family.
I think these people should be locked in a hot car so they can see what their child/dog had to suffer!
When people don't pick up their dogs' poop.
Not necessarily because they are lazy. But because they are inconsiderate.

Load More Replies...We live near a riding school, which often take the horses out to the woods behind our street. Horses poo too, but their poop is never picked up, or scooped away from the walking/cycling paths. It can take weeks for rain to wash it away. I understand that they don't have huge bags, but at least push it off the pavement or make the horse turn its back towards the ditch when they feel a poo is imminent.
Where I live (UK) we have a massive problem with people bagging up their dog mess then throwing it on the floor or throwing it in nearby trees.
That's only an issue in populated areas. I never pick up Yogi's poop, but we live in the woods. He is considerate enough to defecate well away from the trails. The deer, on the other hand, poop every where.
We have off leash areas where we don’t have to pick it up and areas where leashes and poop pick up are mandatory. My sweet pup doesn’t care, she always wants to poop and run 🤣 and I stand there trying to pry open a bag, trying to get her to stay put and keep an eye on the poop so I don’t have to search for it in the grass
People who drive drunk or texting.
Possible exception if their drink was spiked - but, in general, I'd support a lifetime ban from ever driving again. At a minimum
Using the phone while driving in a parking lot ought to lead to removal of driver's licence!
One and done for DUIs. No exceptions. Tough s**t. It's a privilege, not a right. Feel the same about poaching. Sorry--lost the privilege to hunt. Forever. Horrendous child abuse? Abuser is sterilized. You had your chance. Rapist? Vasectomy. Don't need some violent a*s spreading his seed.
Seriously, the texting and driving is just as bad as drunk driving. I've been behind people texting while driving and I kid you not, I thought they were drunk. Driving down the center of the road, into turn lanes they have no intention of using, weaving in the lane. It's horrible. And with speech to text not necessary. Or even better, put the damn phone down and pay attention to your driving. The only thing worse I've seen is someone reading a tablet on the highway. Self driving cars can't come soon enough. God save us from the Homers on the road!
They should start issuing life time bans from driving. Also the requirements to drive should be alot stricter. And be more checked

Thank Ron Reagan for this. He is the one who started the USA on this ride into hell. He spread hatred, division, mistrust. He invented the welfare queen - blamed it on the black - when more white people collected welfare, and still do. Reagan opened the door to Murdoch to spew his hatred everywhere. They own the entirety of the Republican party in the USA, and a few of the Democrats as well.

"Customers" without any intention of making a purchase feel like they're entitled to quiz you on your knowledge of the items, while other customers are waiting to be helped. If they DO make a purchase, they only end up returning it a week later with some sorry excuse, even though they tried to get every discount that never existed (and the manager freely gave them). Oh yes, let's not forget the ones who attempt to use a credit card that's hundreds of dollars over their limit, holding up the line of genuine customers. Never. Again.
I think it should be mandatory for people to work in customer service for, let's say, a year.
The fact that people at festivals "care about earth" and the amount of litter on the ground is disgusting. Not to mention even if every bit of it was picked up it would still end up on the ground and these people somehow think okay... kind of a GIANT double standard if u ask me...
It should be common place that at the end of it all, we who attended these events should go over the park or site and clean up as we leave.

It's essential to train your dog (1) to only eat stuff that YOU give it and not to accept anything from anyone else unless you say OK and (2) never to eat anything found on the ground. It can be done. I've done it with every dog I've owned and in at least two cases it saved their lives.

I hate extremism in people. Their extreme becomes their entire being. Every aspect of their life becomes tainted by their chosen extremism. From Health to Gaming. From Christianity to Islam. From Left wing to Right wing.
Nothing good comes from extremism.
I don't believe the miraculous and spiritual claims of the Bible, but if someone actually genuinely believes that stuff, as many Christians *claim* they do, then it makes complete sense it would absolutely be the most important thing in their lives, the very thing they define their identity by and the filter by which they see all of reality. Of course, even then you can have basic respect for people that don't believe the same as you. That's where I draw the line. You want to believe all these incredible things and structure your life around that? Great, I celebrate your freedom to do so, because that's a freedom that all people should enjoy. But, the second you try to force any of that on someone else, you've gone too far.
As a Christian I try to remember what Jesus routinely did -- that is, make friends with the people everyone hated. Samaritans, prostitutes, tax collectors.
Load More Replies...And I feel that should be added that it's not always the views that are extreme, but rather their insistence of forcing those views. A lot this comes down tribalism and post-pandemic troubles. People, as much as we hope we were, are not by nature rational. It's a learned trait I think. And when we're confronted by uncertainty of the future, we tend to revert to our lesser selves. Now, I think it's important that I point out that I believe we should view ourselves as a single global tribe and we should strive to become a post scarcity egalitarian society. And for some reason, that view has been seen as naive at best and extreme at worst and I don't understand why when my views are pretty damn harmless. Yet I see a lot of people with views that are very harmful become mainstream while they demonize the other.
Extreme moderates are just as pig-headed as the other kinds, maybe more so.
In extreme left-wing utopia anyone with views of their own that do not strictly conform with the new extremist religion is ostracised, cancelled, loses their job/family/everything. There is no respect for anyone who doesn't toe the line of these new beliefs.

People who can't accept criticism when they f**k up and affect other people's lives.
People who can't have a discussion where they are being told a fact and they disprove it because "back in the day..." or authority arguments should always win.
It teaches you some hardcore patience when you have to deal with people like these on the daily.
Do, however, check that your 'facts' are fully true; we all make mistakes. Also, 'back in the day', they were taught to accept authority no matter how crazy it might sound, so be gentle with them. But your ground-level position can always be "I don't see it that way" - end of discussion.

... and then come around, SIT on your desk and explain why they were being a snitch, depicting it as "helping you grow". And then, being at fault with their so-called correction, come crying for being snitched out, as what corrects their attempt and confirms your view/method/solution, because you aren't as dumb as they supposed you were, was send by "answer-all" instead of just answering them. Oh my, what a relief it was they never shared a smoke with me again. Silence, finally!
I have a coworker who is just, wel... not smart. He is such a burden. Supervisors and coworkers who flat out tell you that their time away from work is more valuable than yours, because they have kids waiting for them at home. Therefore you as a single, childless person should understand that they need to leave and you are the natural choice for whom can stay and finish what needs to be done.
I've been managing teams for the last 10 years or so, and I heard that line more than I remember! I always get aggravated and make sure to point out that everyone of us has a family! Family is not just children! And it's the holidays for each person, not just for the ones that have kids, Karen!
Yeah, we all know that prior generations found their offspring on the roadside, they didn't give birth or go through pregnancy and still manage to live life without being carried. They managed to raise families even though they were required to work. What a concept.

I think that's most (not all) people with power. Just think about how people drive cars: in the UK, pedestrians have priority at junctions (and always have had - they just recently made it more abundantly clear in the highway code) but how many car drivers abuse their power (of being in a powerful killing machine) and ignore pedestrians waiting to cross the side road? As a professional driver, I'd estimate that 10% of drivers are active ar53h0l35, but another 80% are mindless, passive ar53h0l35 who don't even realise it. It takes positive action, vigilence and humility to avoid abusing power once you have it.

Student Paramedic in the UK here, for context you don't pay for healthcare in the UK including the ambulance service.
We often have patients who will ring us up and say over the phone things like "I have chest pain" chest pain is a high priority case and often gets dispatched as quick as possible. But upon arrival they will tell us "I never said I had chest pain" Yet we ring and ask for a transcript of the conversation and there it is.
9/10 times we have to take them into hospital to check they're okay just incase there is any heart or lung issues, but people will lie to get things seen quicker through the emergency pathway. But people will get us out for anything because they can't be bothered to: A) Drive themselves, B) Pay for a taxi, C) get public transport or D) wait too see their GP (Family doctor)
You can leave people at home and tell them you won't take them but if they ring back another crew will be sent out or even worse something bad could actually happen and you're stuck with the liability.
It makes me so annoyed people see it as a taxi and not as an emergency service. But let me clarify this is a small amount of people but they're definitely there.
EDIT: (My personal opinion) For all those saying "This is why things shouldn't be free" This is a minority of people who do this, all of my patients are treat with dignity and respect, I've had people who've come off motorbikes, attempted suicide, heart attacks, pulled muscles, chest infections the works. I know each and every one of them no matter how dire the circumstances will be treat fairly and equally for their condition with a care plan to look after them after they leave hospital.
The NHS has saved my life and countless others and takes a small sum out of my taxes at the end of the month without the worry that I need too fork out for insurance.
From all the comments for American and other EMS colleagues from around the globe (you guys are rocking it by the way, keep up the stellar work) the situation is similar in their work, people just don't pay as a result your insurance premiums go up and to pay the difference, in the end everyone pays for everyone else.
Edit Edit: IMPORTANT: please don't let this put you off calling an ambulance, if you are genuinely worried about yours or someone's health call us up, we'd rather arrive and find it was nothing than be called when you're at your worst.
Just give us some snacks, Yeah.
Thanks for the gold! And the platinum!!
Thank you NHS St Michael's Hospital and the oncology centre next door for ensuring that I'm still here 20 years later. Free at point of delivery is a wonderful thing and all for a few pence a week in national insurance deductions.
Two points here:1. Your NI contributions (Employer and employee) are up to 20% of your salary. 2. In fact there is now no link between NI and the NHS, it's just another tax, all goes into the same pot.

Swedish person. I have epilepsy, a very mild form, but now and then I have a seizure. I have told all colleagues that if I have a seizure, to call the ambulance. Sometimes I have got a bill for the transport, other times I didn't get a bill. I don't know the differences, but the bill has been like 20 dollars, so no worries. I don't want my colleagues to have to make the decision whether I'm ill enough or not. I am always very grateful for the ambulance people helping me, when I barely know my own name.
This actually does put me off ringing for an ambulance :/
Don't let it - if you're concerned for a life, or you see someone needing urgent treatment, call it in. When I was a kid I found a man lying in the gutter, not communicating - I went to a phone box and rang for an ambulance. They came but he was just drunk (I was too young to know much about that, at the time). I was embarrassed as all f&&& but I'd do it again if I felt it necessary - lives matter more than blushes
