Not everything goes downhill as we age. Well, surely our close friends circle becomes smaller, hangovers get worse and more responsibilities fall on our shoulders. But a new body of research has shown that some of our brain abilities improve as we age.
For example, a 2011 study looking at data from more than 60,000 people found that our ability to recognize faces continued to improve as we age—until just after we hit age 30. "At almost any given age, most of us are getting better at some things and worse at others," lead study author and MIT department of brain and cognitive sciences researcher Joshua Hartshorne commented to Business Insider.

Another more recent study found that some of our abilities, like reading others' emotions and recalling events that have just happened, to name a few, keep improving until we turn 30. Incredibly, skills like basic math and a larger vocabulary rise throughout our lives and reach their peak around when we turn 50.

Does that mean that we get smarter with age? Well, it depends what we define as ‘smart,’ but some of our cognitive abilities do indeed improve as we age. However, some will deteriorate, like our ability to quickly process and recall information (also known as fluid intelligence), which peaks at about the age of 18. After its peak, those abilities continually fall over the rest of our lives.
But that doesn’t mean it’s bad news for us. There is another study suggesting that having a greater purpose in life can help protect against cognitive decline among older adults. In fact, greater purpose in life has been linked to reduced all-cause mortality and cardiovascular problems, increased longevity, maintenance of general physical functioning, reduced risk of stroke and reduced incidence of sleep disturbances.

His mum died actually :(

That explains some things. I wonder if all of these hateful, judgmental as***les appreciate how privileged (and ugly) they are.
People can be mean, she died when he was 26 though so I'm sure he was taught some life lessons.. although I don't know how she died..maybe she was ill a lot through his life.
That explains a lot.
and it was wrapped in tin foil
I can confirm this is the average Tiktokker.
You just made me want to cry. Then again I do not even want to understand tiktok.
You think this is only men? You're in for a surprise.
Yep. I've had male and female roommates over the years who didn't do chores or learn to cook growing up. I did have a couple guys who were shocked that I wasn't just going to be their new mommy and cook for them and pick up after them, which is not something I got from the women. Most of them didn't, though. They were content to live like slobs and eat instant ramen all the time.
We need to remember everyone has different experiences. Things you learned growing up are relative. I never knew until I was in my thirties that the refrigerator door hinges could be moved. Now it seems obvious but it had just never come up before. Everyone doesn't own an instant pot, or have the same hangovers, or regularly use a cooler for things. Don't be a jerk - people have different experiences.
Everyone has different life experiences, but some of these "discoveries" consist of reading the installation material the comes with a product. Now, given that some of these products may have been purchased second hand (and thus without the manual), there is room for some benefit of the doubt. I just feel that if you have reached your 30s without already having learned most of these, society has let you down.
I do not have an insta-pot either but I do know about the foil and the fridge hinges. In this case he really does read like a “look what I just found out!” kid. My own mother at the age of 70 acted like she had been the first person ever to discover socks (I’m not even exaggerating). But like you said, everyone has different life experiences
I had the same thought. 30 year old man child.
He's like Peter Pan I think it quite cute actually
📢Stop enabling manbabies📢
Theres plenty of 30 year old women who pretty hopeless domestically by some standards. . .ive worked with nurses who have never cooked a meal in their lives, dont have kitchen utensils and whose houses are a domestic nightmare. The filrhiest house i ever saw was one owned by achild services supervisor who inspected facilities for child care. Very few male nurses knew how to iron clothes because they were never taught the skill, plenty of female nurses are absolute slobs at home . . . . .its easy to laugh but if you arent taught these tip, teicks and skills then how can you be expected to know them . . . . . hell, ive been a gym goer for over 40 years but i still come across young men and women who dint know how to form, plan or implement a workout simply because whilst everyone ASSUMES this generation is oh so internet savvy, many arent and dont know how to 'research' a topic. . . . . . another thing to take into consideration is the cordoning off of some skills like car maintenance.
Lots of nurses are unfortunately also sadistic nutcases. I used to live below one who worked graveyard shifts and had a MASSIVE "emotional support" dog (it wasn't) who would run around and she absolutely refused to do anything about the noise. When I moved out she finally bought rugs for the floors. I have met numerous nurses like this-- I truly believe some of them join the medical profession because they like to see other people suffer. It's usually the rich white perma-sorority girls from rich families
Right? Reads like other “life hacks you don’t know” articles that tend to proliferate on FB, YouTube, et cetera. Still…there are many hacks here that aren’t bad (even if most seem to be common sense).
This is the average 30 year old of a child with shitty parents. Most of his claims are verified bullshit and the others that are true, I learned when I was about 9.
Maybe he’s a 30 yr old who has been drunk or stoned for many years and lost years of being productive at home or being around functional adults. People can get emotionally stunted because of the years lost while high, maybe functional “adulting” development stalls too.
I think there's a lot of ppl, men & women that inadvertantly waste food because they don't know a lot of kitchen tips. Not uncommon. Tips, lil hacks are for sharing

Not a man, but i think most of these are pretty average knowledge, however, I learned how to tie running shoes with this guy and it's actually pretty neat.
I had the exact same thought! Almost all of this is on page one of the products' manual. I don't understand how people can buy something and not read the manual.
I'm 40 and didn't know a couple of these.
Every time I see another TikTok video I’m really trying to stay objective and read it through. And every time it’s either bunch of bullshit or things so obvious kids in kindergarten probably knows it. At some point you have to ask if this is the generation that is that stupid, which I really doubt, or TikTok is somehow an incubator of entitled people
considering some of the tiktok "challenges" i'd be inclined toward it being an incubator
But since Incubators tend to grow things; wouldn't it be an anti incubator as it's making brains smaller?
Anything that puts people on camera does that, though. Unopposed idiocy mistakenly believes itself unopposed for being right, whereas in reality all they are is alone. Anyone else nearby would immediately point out the idiot's idiocy with a reality check of some sort. Since we can now put people on camera without a cameraman to laugh at how ridiculous the idiot's being, all bets are off.
There is substantial evidence of people being stupid and forcing that on others going back much further than cameras. Just because we are more connected doesn't mean we are actually stupider, it just means it is easier to find specific examples of stupidity.
I'm just going to say it... What's it say about you that you have Tik tok installed and clearly view the content yet here you are being well judgemental about the content just delete the app and let the kids be kids or are you upset that guys like this man get paid for their content and paid well
You need to leave!
They decide to do a video, and only then they "discover" something "very interesting". Should be the other way around.
You both clicked and interacted with this so... anyway, TikTok has lots of high quality stuff, especially cultural education, but also a wide variety of enthusiast how-tos and even some pretty decent science explainers. BP has none of that stuff. There are occasionally cool photos and people talking about a place, but there aren't really deep dives or anything pushing boundaries except maybe of tasteful humor. Anyway, you can bemoan the TikTok generation but I am more inclined to assume it is your bias and filters and not the actual state of young people, or even social media.
How stupid was this huh!
considering my 9-yr-old godkid can do better.... yeah, this guy isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer... but don't let him have a knife. Please. Ye heavens.
Your Godkid? Probably does better than you as well.
Enough to read through it lol, some of it I think was for silly Ness but some is useful, like the wooden spoon over boiling water.
Everyone's a critic.
Yea...but I do kinda worry bout this fella...he can't be as simple as it makes him seem...can he?
