With borders shut, travel plans in the bin and planes lurking on the ground, during the height of the pandemic we became experts in sitting.

Couches, sofas, beds and windowsills became our primary nests for weeks on end.

As people and airplanes now return to the skies, Lithuanian Airports brought a challenge never seen before – a 45 hour-long sitting extravaganza for the true lovers of flying. Why 45 hours? This is the time a plane would theoretically require to fly around the globe by the equator.

The idea – simple: sit as long as you can in an airplane seat without sleep.

The prize: two return business-class tickets to Paris with airBaltic and endless champagne at the business lounge of Vilnius Airport.

Service? Allow us to remind you that smoking and drinking your own alcohol on an airplane is strictly forbidden.

Lavatory? 10 minutes every two hours.

Weather? Sunshine, no clouds, light turbulence in your head.

After three days of, well, sitting, and to everyone’s surprise, the first four contestants endured the entire challenge, a mind-blowing 45 hours, and finally all won tickets to Europe’s capital of love.

So what was that you were saying about your two hour flight delay?

Wishing them safe travels, but for now – sweet dreams.
