I'm Matteo and I'm a professional photographer. I've always been fascinated by the beauty of birds.
In 2013 I decided to go in search of a Concincina as a pet for my studio garden in Milan. That's when I met Giorgio, a farmer who invited me to an aviary exhibition.
That very same day, the Concincina hen Jessicah (cue Unchained Melody) stole my heart.
My friend and work partner Moreno joined me in this passion/madness and we started to take pictures of literally hundreds of chickens and roosters.
Just look at them. They are beautiful. And they know it.
Eventually, we ended up with enough material to think about publishing a book. That's why we just launched a Kickstarter campaign.

This comb (the top of his head) could be the new color for a lipstick!
Chickens are awesome and these photos show how pretty and cool they are! I love their interesting dinosaur looking feet & legs too! I have 15 pet hens and 2 pet roos. This is a Golden Sebrite. I have a Golden Sebrite hen. Her name is Picassa because she looks like a beautiful painting. Their feathers look like this all the time.
Beautiful! This is a Golden Seabrite rooster. I have a Golden Seabrite bantum hen (bantum means a chicken is a smaller size/breed). My Golden Seabrite's name is Picassa because she's so beautiful and looks like a painting!
Are you absolutely certain that the chicken isn't painted? What is this chicken called?
Blue silkie hen. I have one named Lavender (and a black silkie named Jackie-O). You can tell the hens from the roos because the roos have little knotted combs on their forehead. Silkies don't have pronounced combs like some other breeds. Somehow their feathers stay fluffy and clean like this all the time! This breed is very very sweet :) I also had a brown hen named Foxy Brown :) Having pet chickens is super fun and pretty easy. You just need to make sure you lock them up in a coop at night so predators don't get them.
Definately some silkie, maybe a darf? These have lovely voice and are super cute and cuddly.
Load More Replies...I never thought of a chicken as being beautiful, but this guy is stunning!
Now all I can think of is chickens clucking, but in Phyllis Dillers voice.
Load More Replies...This is a white-crested black Polish breed. Various Polish chickens have different colored body and/or head feathers, but they all have this characteristic long head feathers :) I do feel bad for them because I feel they can't see well. I have two Polish hens. I trim the feathers a little above their eyes so that they can see hawks, owls and osprey who come around every so often.
"They tried to put me on the cover of Vogue, but my legs were tooooooo long!"
I believe this may be a golden Polish Frizzle, although the feathers don't look curled as a Frizzle. The head feathers are characteristic of a Polish hen.
Oh, this reminds me of my Charlie. He was a little bantam rooster with an enormous personality! I miss that bird …
Are they the same color pattern as Wellsummer? This guy looks just like my Wellsummer roosters.
Load More Replies...You were okay calling it a rooster before. The BREED is Bard, but this is still a rooster. :)
Load More Replies...Pretty sure this is a bard, correct me if I'm mistaken (a bard is a type of chicken)
The BREED may be Bard, but this is still a rooster. http://animals.mom.me/how-to-tell-a-barred-rock-rooster-from-a-barred-rock-hen-3920656.html
Load More Replies...This actually rooster, breed name is sebright (silver one are also supercool!)
I actually prefer the silver sebrights myself :)
Load More Replies...Isn't that a golden laced Wyandotte? I could be wrong, but I had a golden and a silver and they looked similar. Either way, just beautiful and I love this entire photo set. This post is missing a few that would have been fantastic additions: Asian Jungle Fowl, Plymouth Barred Rock, and the stunning black Ayam Cemani.
Golden laced Wyandottes have more blue-black in their feather edges and are a heavier bird, more meat – like an Orpington – than an egg-layer like a leghorn.
Load More Replies...A very beautiful Silver Spangled Hamburg rooster. Such an awesome breed!
I have one like this but has a head dress like a polish crested hair style
Kind of hard to tell without seeing the face, but my bet is Dark Brahma hen.
Load More Replies...I knew he reminded me of some US President. Check out Martin Van Buren
Awww. Don't insult the poor chickie. What did chickie do to you? ;)
Load More Replies...Looks like some type of Belgian Bantam, possibly a Quail/Antwerp.
Looks like the wrong colour tail for an Antwerp...
Load More Replies...I like the way it’s colors coordinate, I wonder what else is in his closet, I mean coop....
I have a dream... I have a dream that one day all chickens will be photographed as beautiful creatures.
For some reason this makes me think of autumn and models in gorgeous overcoats
Thousand flower chicken. Mille = thousand in French
Load More Replies...Mille Fleur d’Uccle Bantam hen. They are among the sweetest breeds. Gentle and friendly.
I have the dark version of this breed, he's pushing 14 lbs, but don't call him fat, he's big boned, and if you call him fat, he will mate with your ankles and make you bleed, then he'll eat as many of your children as he can catch.
Wow, I love his powerful awesome dinosaur legs!!!! And those amazing copper and green and black contrast, simply gorgeous majestic rooster (hen?!)
Yep, this is a cockerel 😊 One of our best broody bantam hens had spurs.
Load More Replies...I had a bird just like this one but she died in 3 months of me having her do to a raccoon. She imprinted on me as a 3 day old chick.
SHE does have glorious legs. (Every guy likes a gal with a great set of gams!)
Looks cool, but makes me sad that we have bred chickens to have all these extra feathers on their feet and legs of a type that would only cause them problems. :\
These feathered legs usually denote many old breeds. The bare leg varieties are generally newer. The feathers are extra insulation from the cold, very practical!
Load More Replies...I am against foolish people that bred any animal for the wrong reason, perhaps they have too much money , short on ethics. !!!
Are all those feathers on the ground connected to his legs/feet? Beautiful!
Okay sorry, but this one looks a bit too much like what’s for dinner.
I agree Diana. Definitely looks like a Pekin. So petite!
Load More Replies...Blue Frizzle Cochin Bantam, though he looks a little rough around the edges.
Might be Frizzled Serama instead, though.
Load More Replies...As with the one above, she also looks like she was dragged out of the shower backwards
Semi-frizzled black splash cochin? Our frizzled cochins looked much better than this.
I've got 3 roosters that look just like this one and they are the most vicious little things. They seriously abuse me. But they're very cute.
This could be my mom, seriously, the feather colour and attitude....
Belgium Bearded...I named mine Waffle! He is a character!
Sadly, as the pages go on the points get less. Not a true picture of the best photo, but of the staying power of the viewers.
Watch documentary, Chicken People! Very funny, informative and entertaining!
Load More Replies...I have an older much older aunt who looks and dresses much like this.... and the stance too.
Big breasted & wearing one of those crocheted shawl things around her shoulders?
Load More Replies...I've heard of running around like a headless chicken , never thought I'd see one !!
Though possibly rumpless, so perhaps a reconstituted Araucana.
Load More Replies...WE'L HAVE NO TROUBLE ER MATE. HE LOOKS LIKE A BOUNCER DOOR MAN X
He's STILL trying to figure out which came first!! And why he crossed the road!!
This one reminds me of the giant critters in the Sinbad movies when I was a kid.
Absolutely stunning, thanx so much for posting these. Very surprising and enjoyable.
They're so cute, just like their great, great, great......grand parents. Velocirapt...fc4bdc.jpg
wow these are amazing, you never really stop and appreciate how beautiful these birds are.
This is an amazing post! Honestly, the photographs were very well done to emphasize how beautiful these animals are. Keep up the good work!
Couldn't you make these photos any darker? I can still almost see the chickens.
How can chickens look like they're twice divorced? Jk, but these are really awesome
Absolutely beautiful photography. Chickens are my favorite birds. I rescued one girl, she lived with me for six years before she passed. She had her own dog bed, loved watermelon, would lay down in front of the TV to watch the Flinstones, would peck my bed so I could pick her up and cuddle, and would purr me to sleep just like a kitty! :) Oh she loved listening to Mozart too, I'd play it when she was outside and she would lay down and watch the butterflies around her in my yard :')
I feel like crying whenever I see a live chicken because I had a cousin who had chickens and whenever my parents and I visited his family, I always hung out with him in the chicken coop. He tragically passed away a few years ago. He was 20.
