It’s never easy to hear your flight has been delayed. Especially late in the evening with the plane sitting right in front of you!

Well that’s what happened to me in Copenhagen, Denmark. My 9pm flight had an issue with the front cabin door opening upon arrival. The airline announced that they would have to fly an engineer from Dublin (our destination) to resolve the issue, pushing our departure back to 2am. 5 hours, 198 passengers, alone in an Airport.

Interestingly, after 11pm the hustle and bustle of Copenhagen Airport all but disappears. Shops go dark, machines fall silent, and the hub becomes an eerily spacious shell.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be stuck in an airport after hours, here are some photos I captured wandering Copenhagen Airport at 1am.
