Anyone who shares their home with a cat knows that even the most ordinary moment can suddenly become a major event. In the comics of artist Meg Adams, much of that everyday chaos comes courtesy of Shadowfang, her rescue black cat who approaches life with all the seriousness of a tiny, furry warrior. Bored Panda has featured Meg Adams’ relatable comics several times before, but this time, we’re turning our attention entirely to the feline side of her work.
From refusing to cooperate at the vet and interrupting work to demanding another meal shortly after finishing the last one, Shadowfang always seems to have something to say. Having his paws cleaned is an injustice, staying indoors is practically imprisonment, and the humans around him clearly need constant supervision. Luckily, he also has Commander Banana, his beloved toy and faithful companion, to accompany him through some of his more dramatic adventures. Together, the comics form a funny and affectionate portrait of life with a cat who can be stubborn, demanding, unpredictable, and lovable all at once. Shadowfang may see himself as a fearsome creature enduring endless hardships, but for cat owners, many of his struggles will probably look very familiar.

My first was a yearish-old abandoned/stray cat (he was clearly on his own, but was already litterbox trained). He was with me for a month or two before he'd even let me touch him, so I didn't even try to get him into a carrier for a vet check up until I'd had him for about 4 months. Getting him into the carrier the first time was an adventure, as suddenly he seemed to have eight limbs all of which were clinging to the opening/door; but despite fighting like héll to stay OUT of the carrier, once we got to the vet exam room he was equally determined to stay IN the carrier. We literally had to tip the carrier up so we could get gravity's help to slide him out (as he again clung to the door opening with like 27 limbs).

Yes, people often say "it's mean and unnecessary to force cats into a bath!" but sometimes it's 100% necessary. About 2 years into having my first kitty (mentioned elsewhere, persian/siamese cross with cream fur and faint golden points), there was a LITERAL dumpster fire right outside my apartment window (which opened directly above the building's back alley), with my window open, so a lot of smoke came in. By the time I realized and slammed the window shut, Edelweiss was gray, not cream, and I knew it wouldn't be safe for him to bath himself, so a sink bath it was. Even with my apartment-mate's help, I got plenty of scratches (I dealt with the end with all the pointiest bits). And we still ended up having to trim most of the fur off of his fluffy tail.

I used to have a former stray cat - once homed he never went further than the garden again. And in winter, not further than the front door!
