Our world is a big and scary place, and there are lots of things we still don’t know about it. For example, no human eyes have seen 99% of the deep sea, making it a complete mystery. Is it so hard to believe, then, that ghosts and aliens might exist? Granted, it’s not hard for some, as 18% of the American population claim they have come face to face with a ghost.

Yet ghosts aren’t the only scary paranormal phenomena that fuel our nightmares. Many people have experienced creepy, inexplicable things they can’t fathom with their logical minds and have lived to see another day. These are the stories about the scariest paranormal experiences people have shared online, which Bored Panda came across in three different threads. Be warned, though: you might want to keep the light on tonight after reading some of these spooky stories.

An older woman with a pensive expression, possibly reflecting on creepy true stories that question reality. My great-grandmother watched my great-grandfather [perish]. They were truly in love forever. After he [passed], she woke up every morning and said "dang it!" because she was ready to pass away. My great aunts would hear her talking on a baby monitor they set up talking to members of the family who had already passed. Finally one afternoon, they heard her go "John, finally! Why are you always late". They were frozen as John was my great grandfather's name. They walked in 10 minutes later and she passed away. She was just waiting for her husband to come get her.

A woman crying with her hands covering her face, experiencing unbelievably scary and accurate true stories that question reality. My BFF once mentioned to me that her BF could see/feel ghosts/spirits. He's kind of a "one upper" so I brushed it aside and never thought more of it. One Saturday night, we are hanging out at my house (where I lived with my mother at the time). We weren't drinking, just hanging out and chatting. Suddenly he went very still and silent, my BFF asked him what was wrong. He said he felt a presence in the house and it was very strong. He told us to keep chatting like we were and he was going to "feel for it". BFF and I return to our gossiping.

A while later he speaks and mentions the spirit is in the kitchen and it appears to be male, at least to him it does. He says it doesn't feel like other spirits though, more like a good presence/guardian angel type deal. I still don't really believe him, so I start asking question. He says the entity is definitely related to my family and that he is young.

Then suddenly, he turns to me and asks "Did your mom have a miscarriage?" The blood drained from my face and I got goose bumps everywhere. My mother miscarried a child before me, it would have been a boy, my older brother. There is no way he would have known that about my mother, because my BFF had no idea either. Then he said "Had she named him? He's trying to tell me his name... it starts with an A". I started trembling, my mom had told me she had planned to name him Alex. He went on to explain how he believes it is my unborn older brother, and he's a guardian angel figure to my mother. He assumed he was there at that time to watch over her. It was unbelievably scary and accurate because at the time, my mother was going through a really rough time (depression).

I never doubted his ability after that. When I told my mother about what had happened the next day, she was sobbing and always thought that the presence she felt by her side was her grand-father whom she had always been close to, not her unborn older son. I still get chills to this day just thinking about it.

Little girl with blonde pigtails pointing at her reflection in glass, looking scared by the true story. My daughter, 3 at the time, pointed out the car window and said, “Mama, the helicopter went into the water.”  We hadn’t seen or heard anything, so I figured it was just her telling one of her stories (albeit a kind of weird one).

Get home and open up my phone- a military helicopter had gone down in the Gulf, right at the area she was pointing, no survivors.  News was released after we left daycare, so she couldn’t have overheard anything, and my radio was off, so no news.  And it definitely wasn’t visible from where we were in the car.

I take her predictions/statements a lot more seriously now.

A woman with scared eyes, lit by a single beam, pondering creepy true stories that question reality. Came home one night from work, made dinner and took a shower. My bf told me he was coming over so I was waiting on him. I finish showering and im doing my moisturizing routine in the bathroom with the door closed. Heard him come in, walk to the bathroom door and knock. I opened the door to nothing, thought he was playing a joke on me so I looked around my entire apartment and no one was there. At all. I checked his location and he was still driving to my place.

A woman sleeping in bed, possibly dreaming of creepy true stories that question reality. Asian Horror here: My sister had been living with my aunts since she was a little girl. One night, she dreamt that someone was in her room, and as she was lying down on her side, she felt someone slowly lie down beside her on her queen sized bed. she shut her eyes and told 'it' to go away. Suddenly she felt 'its' nails go up and down her back. She ran out of the room, went to my aunts' room to sleep. Next day she showed the scratches to me. Long thin lines up and down her entire back.

A young girl with wide eyes, hands over her mouth, reacting to scary true stories that question reality. I was helping my younger brother move into an apartment with his buddies and had to bring my two very young daughters with me.

My youngest at the time was about 2 1/2 or 3, and fearless. She went to different rooms with my brother, exploring and having a jolly old time.

Until she got to the kitchen. Upon entering, my daughter froze; her eyes were huge and fearful and within ten seconds she was screaming and running for me as fast as she could, mumbling about "da yaydee" (the lady) in the kitchen.

Brother and I tried laughing it off, redirecting her and taking her mind off it, but my normally calm kid was hysterical and we had to leave.

She told me in bed that night the lady had red eyes and was scary....if you knew my daughter you'd understand how unlike her all this was. She was 100% convinced that she saw a lady just standing in the kitchen, and still to this day (7 years later!) she swears she did.

I don't believe in ghosts or what have you, but her reaction made us question that.

A man with hands over his ears, looking distressed from creepy true stories that question reality. My parents have both passed away. Their wishes were to be cremated, the ashes put in a nice box and be set on our wine rack. This wine rack has three shelves, and I was instructed to keep one shelf between the boxes. Well, my dad passed in 2011 and my mother in 2015.

It took me a few weeks to find a box for my mom. In that time I kept her ashes in the same room but a few feet away from the wine rack. Apparently someone wasn't happy about this. Outside we had a door bell. Every single night at 3am it would begin ringing and wake me up. I took the button portion inside so nobody could push it. Still would ring at 3am. Took the batteries out, still rang at the same time. Broke the whole thing apart, still rang. Our phone began to call itself and displayed my mom's name on the caller id. Even though the bill was in my name. My dad's guitars hung on the wall next to this wine rack. The strings started breaking, one every few days.

All of this stopped as soon as I got my mom a box and put her in the correct spot. None of it has happened since. I have zero intention of moving these boxes and if I ever move to a new house they will be transported together, with something acting as a divider between the two of them.

A young boy with short dark hair crying and clinging to a person, visibly scared by a true story. My mom found an old picture of me with one of my late uncles. She asked me if I remembered him. He passed away when I was really young so I unfortunately don’t remember much of him. She told me that he used to take care of me while both my parents were at work so we had gotten really close - he was essentially another father figure for me at the time.

Supposedly, my parents were woken up one night by me crying and screaming his name. When they came into my room, they found me holding that picture of us (the one I mentioned earlier). They got a call from my aunt that morning that he suddenly passed away.

My mom said the only other times I ever cried like that was when my dad had to leave for deployment. She’s convinced that my uncle said goodbye to me that night.

A young boy in a black puffer jacket pointing to the left, standing against a wooden wall, for creepy true stories. I am the youngest of 2 older brothers. My middle brother had passed away in 2005 and one of my cousins had given birth to a boy a few years later (so he's never seen or heard of my brother before). Fast forward a few years more when the boy is old enough to talk (I think like 5?), I guess my aunt was telling my mom that her son has an imaginary friend that he's been talking about named Michael. Now both my aunt and mom played it off as a "kids will be kids" sort of thing. That was until my aunt began explaining this imaginary friend and how it had some coincidental things that directly related to my brother.

First, this Michael would wake up the boy at night wanting to play basketball. Kid didn't mind cause he liked basketball too but it was in the middle of the night. Secondly, Michael tells him he "has an owwie" and points to his throat (I'll get back to this later). Then the trippy part comes when my mom went to visit my aunt. She was sitting at the couch watching TV while my cousin and her son walked in. Her son was hesitant at first and then walked back to his room. My cousin went to my mom and told her, "he was being shy cause he told me that is Michael's mom". I was then told if you show him a photo of my brother he points to it and says, "that's Michael". Even when I went to their house the boy did the same thing and this time the cousin said, "he whispered to me saying thats Michael's brother".

Here's the kicker: my brother's name is Travis Michael *last name redacted*. He liked to play basketball in highschool and he passed away from a freak accident at the San Luis Obispo sand dunes while riding an ATV. It shattered his adams apple and basically suffocated.

TL;DR my cousins son has/had an imaginary friend that ended up being my deceased brother.

A figure in a dark hooded cloak and a skull-like mask, representing creepy true stories and questioning reality. When I was a senior in high school, my mom and I went to the Glore Psychiatric Museum in St. Joseph, Missouri. I knew nothing about it except that my aunt wrote a paper on it for her psychology class and it was supposed to be really interesting.
The museum itself is a separate, newer building with the actual old hospital next door. The exhibit has a bunch of equipment and patients' belongings from when the psychiatric hospital was running in the early 1900s. So there was lots of creepy relics from the golden days of messed up therapy methods and procedures. However, none of this really bothered me.
Side note, the museum also has separate exhibits about Native American tribes local to the area and the Pony Express. We entered the main floor. Nothing too interesting, just a gift shop and little displays. I felt fine until we reached the second floor where the psychiatric exhibit began. As soon as the doors open, there was a figure. (In my mind's eye. I didn't physically SEE the figure). It looked kind of like a Deatheater from Harry Potter, only not as big and without a head. It followed us around the floor, through the psychiatric exhibit and eventually stopped. I told my mom to keep her feelings to herself so I wouldn't have a biased experience.
I looked at the items left behind by former patients. I felt a presence telling me NOT to touch any of them or something bad would happen.
Finally we made it to the Native American exhibit, and the figure was there again. It followed us but stayed about 20 feet behind, stopping when we stopped.
We took the elevator to the morgue area in the basement. You'd think I'd feel something. Nope. Nothing.
Finally, we went to main floor and left.

When we got home, I mentioned to my mom it felt like something was following us. She agreed and said she saw it too. I decided to do a test. I had us face away from each other and draw what we thought it looked like. Turns out, we drew the exact same thing.

After that, I emailed the museum and told them what I experienced. I didn't think they'd write back, but they did. They told me what I experienced was actually a very common occurrence amongst their guests and staff, and they have allowed investigations from time to time. So yeah. Glore Psychiatric Museum.

A green and orange ball on a wooden floor, casting a shadow, representing scary true stories. So, I work in haunted daycare.

My personal story happened while I worked with the 9 to 18 month babies. At naptime, they all sleep in their own cribs and the teachers all huddle in the furthest corner, so the kids will stay asleep.

One day, the kids are all asleep. Which is a feat in itself. So I'm sitting, facing the room at large, talking to my co-worker. As I'm checking the room, a ball that was left out rolled across the floor. Just straight up moved 4 feet across the floor. It didn't start anywhere near a baby and, even if it had, they were all asleep. The ball was slightly deflated and it even sounded like someone tried to grab it, that sound of fingers trying to find purchase on rubber.

Now, normally I'd attribute this to a trick of the light or the A/C kicking on, but my co-worker, who had been looking at me, turned her head at the sound and said "what was that?"

I told her what I'd seen, we had a nervous chuckle, and we asked the ghost to kindly not wake any of the kids.

Other co-workers have felt taps when no one is behind them, have seen things move on their own, and one even saw something to tall and abstract to be a kid run down the hallway, only to disappear.

A man in a suit talks on a phone in a dimly lit room, luggage in hand, suggestive of scary true stories and questioning reality. My cousins and I were playing in my grandmother's yard one summer. She had stopped using her front door years before. The screen door was permanently sealed, and a large cabinet blocked the door from the inside. We saw a guy in a full suit with a briefcase walking to the front door, and we all call to him to come to the side door. He ignores us, pushes the broken doorbell, and stands there.

One of my cousins runs in through the side door to tell my grandmother she has a guest. Meanwhile, we are watching suit guy respond as though talking to someone inside, then smiled, opened the screen door and walked in.

Now, we had never ever seen that door used, so we rush up onto the porch and look in through the door. It's still sealed, cabinet in place. Beyond, we see my cousin talking to my grandmother and yell asking where the man was. They say no one came in.

My uncle later told us there was a guy posing as a door to door salesman who [attacked] women in the 50s in the area.

A boy peeks from behind a bookshelf with a scared expression, hinting at creepy true stories and questioning reality. I was sleeping at my grandfather’s house. One morning I heard a woman’s voice say ‘hello, are you okay?’ Very clear and very friendly, within the room. I ran away, afraid, downstairs to where my mum was in the kitchen making breakfast, my brother at the exact same time came in from the front room saying he heard nan talk to him.

My nan had suddenly passed in her sleep about 13 years earlier when I was a baby in that same house.

I was freaked out by it. My mum told me not to be afraid, nan would never hurt you, she loved you so much. And then out-loud asked my nan not to visit until I was ready.

Later that day when I was alone and still a bit freaked out I heard ‘I’m sorry’ and felt a warm glow inside me.

I used to pray out loud before going to bed that I was so grateful that she was looking over me. She never spoke to me again.

A man covers his mouth with his hands, wide-eyed, reflecting creepy true stories and questioning reality. It was back in '98, I believe. My ex-wife and I were renting a house that was directly across the street from the old Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. We went to bed. I looked up and there was a bald African-American man standing at the foot of my bed. He was dressed in one of those work uniforms where the shirt and pants were the same color. He wasn't menacing or anything, just looking at me. I screamed like a girl and he disappeared. My wife had already fallen asleep and my scream made her wake up screaming. We were so shaken that we had to get up and watch tv for a couple more hours.

A young child covers their eyes in fear, evoking scary true stories and questioning reality. So, the stairs to my attic had smelled like burnt hair for 3 days; extremely odd because it was just that area and I have a very old, drafty house. On day 4, I came home from work just before midnight and as soon as I walked through the door, I felt like I had someone standing over my shoulder, breathing down my neck. The feeling was so strong that I opened my medicine cabinet so the mirror was against the wall. I also showered with the shower curtain open because I had a powerful need to see the room. After a shower I was a little less on edge, until I walked past my 4yo daughters room. The door was closed, but I heard her talking in her sleep. Then I heard a loud crash. I slowly opened the door to find her sleeping on top of the covers, and the pile of stuffed animals she insisted on sleeping with scattered across the room. I turned the light on low, looked around the room, and checked her breathing; all seemed well, so I went to bed.

The next morning, I asked her if she had a bad dream:

Her:"Yeah, there was a man with no arms and sauce on his face, and he kept laughing at me. I told him to go away, but he wouldn't. Then, an arm came out of the wall, threw me into the ceiling, and I crashed back down on my bed and went back to sleep."

    Me: "Sauce on his face?"

Her: " Yeah, red like spaghetti.".

A small child standing in darkness with a faint light on his back, suggesting scary true stories. It was about 4 yrs ago. It wasn't the first paranormal occurrence to happen, just the one that scared me the most. One night, my 2 1/2 year old son woke my husband and I up when he crawled into our bed. I couldn't fall back asleep, so I decided to work on a project in my craft room. I was in there for about 45 minutes when the small monitor to the nanny cams started rapidly flickering on and off. (Mind you, these were not motion sensored cams, only continuous feed) The cams are in the living room and our son's room.

I went over to the monitor and picked it up. It all of a sudden made this loud ear piercing sound like a mic feedback. It's startled me and I dropped the monitor facedown. I noticed the glow around the edges had stopped flickering. I picked up the monitor and turned to look at the screen. I saw my son standing as still as a statue in the middle of the living room staring at the wall. I started for the door with the monitor still in my hand. When I glanced down again. My son's head turned (only the head), and his eyes went directly to the camera in the upper corner of the room. He had no expression on his face at all.
I left the room and went through the small kitchen and dining room, rounded the corner to the living room, and it was empty. The door to our bedroom was on the other side. I went in there, and my son was sound asleep in the same position he was in when I left. My husband looked up from his eReader. I asked him if he had woken up and went to the living. He told me No. I asked if my husband had gotten up to go to the bathroom or kitchen. Thinking maybe he just didn't see our son try to follow him. But husband swears he hasn't left the bed at all, and Our Son has been peacefully snoring away the whole time.
Like I said before, this wasn't the first time we had seen doppelgangers, but it was always so brief that you didn't really have time to get scared or have it completely register yet. This was different it wasn't just a glimpse, Above all, it was the look on my son's face that empty void stare, when he turned his head to face the camera Still even now typing it gave me the chills.

A young woman in a white shirt with a ponytail, looking concerned, embodying creepy true stories. For myself: I worked in a haunted bowling alley. Our deceased mechanic gave my ponytail a yank in a room where I was the only person (verified by security camera) and there wasn't anything to catch my hair on. He liked to be playful and wasn't malicious.

Had one recently that happened to my husband though. We live on a piece of property out in the swamp. Our house is pretty isolated. My husband woke up to someone knocking on the front door. He said it was the exact mannerism I knock with, and then a voice said "Honey?" exactly the same way I do. He peeked over the headboard to the front porch, and no one was there. (You can see the front door clearly from our bedroom window, and there's no hiding spots for one of the local crackheads to mess with us).

An empty elevator, its doors open, creating a suspenseful atmosphere for creepy true stories. I have had paranormal activity my whole life. Almost none of those have even been unnerving, so I'll tell you my strangest one....

When I was 10 I lived in southwest Texas. It got so hot in summer there, that one day we literally fried an egg on the sidewalk. On this particular summer day, my mom had taken me and my friend to the library to check out and read some books. We had finished our reading and picked our books, and so we decided to play around with the elevator. There were only 2 floors to the library, and one of us would go into the elevator, and as soon as the doors closed, the other would race down or up the stairs and try to beat the elevator. I was waiting for the elevator on the second floor, and as it dinged my friend took off. But as I stood there, the doors opened, and I got a huge shock.

The elevator was full of about 8 or 9 people. But they were all looking up at the numbers inside it, staring, unblinkingly like zen cows. There was a man at the front, wearing a black 3 piece suit, gloves, a fedora and a cane. Keep in mind this was in Texas during 110°F+ heat. He was gaunt, with a white moustache, and slightly resembled the guy in Needful Things. He smiled wide when he saw me, and said in a voice I'll never forget, "There's room for one more." I was freaked. "Uh, no thanks," I replied. The elevator doors closed as the man sort of tilted his hat. As I stood there in shock, my friend came back up the stairs, slightly winded. "Hey, where were you?" He asked me. I explained to him I couldn't use the elevator because it was packed full. "There was NOBODY on the elevator," he said.

I look back on this often, and the question What if I'd gotten on it? haunts me. I have absolutely no clue what would have happened if I'd gotten on, and it is sort of frightening, for sure... I know how all of it sounds, but I swear to the Higher Power this really happened.

A woman crying, covering her mouth with hands, portraying scary true stories. When I was about 14/15 years old, I went for a sleepover at a friends house. We stayed up late watching scary movies, etc. Typical sleepover.

Anyways, we went to sleep in the same bed and at some point in the night I could feel tugging on the blanket, so I opened my eyes and I seen a hand coming over me and grabbing the blanket and pulling it off of me. At first, I just thought my friend was grabbing the blanket in her sleep but I could still feel her back to mine so there was no way her arm would be like that while back to back. I started to prop myself up and I seen a man standing at the foot of the bed. I full panicked and jumped out of bed to run to light switch. I switched it on and the man was gone but her bedroom door that was previously locked and closed was open. With the knob still locked. I closed the door and tried to get my friend to wake up but she was a super heavy sleeper. I have no idea how I managed to fall back asleep but I did.

I NEVER stayed at her house again. haha.

A close-up of a cracked wall, symbolizing the unsettling nature of creepy true stories. My sister and I are 11 months apart in age. She was four and I was three. We both vividly remember being in our bedroom and there was a small crack in the wall above one of our beds.

We were babbling on about our mother being mean for making us clean our room. The crack started to crack off more and more until there was a head of a white haired old lady. She was telling us to be nicer to our mom and to always listen to her. We threw things at the old lady and ran out of the room screaming.

We ran to our mom trying to tell her what had happened. My mom remembered that day but thought we were just trying to get out of cleaning up our room. When we did go back in the room the crack was just a little crack again. But she told us when we were older she had found plaster on the floor behind the bed with no source from where it came from.

When they went in, it was ice cold inside and they didn’t have air conditioning. As they walked through the apartment, the dogs cowered behind them. As they stepped into the kitchen, there stood Sue’s Grandmother. The only problem was, she had passed away 5 years ago.

That place always felt weird, but I chalked it up to my nerves and the odd noises of the woods, as I was born and raised in cities and had never been so isolated before.

Then, the night before I moved out into an apartment with a friend, as I was falling asleep I experienced a powerful hypnogogic jerk (that thing where you feel like you’re falling and sit up really hard) and as I did so I heard a tiny voice in my ear say -

Young girl in a skeleton costume sitting in an empty bathtub, appearing scared from a creepy true story. I grew up in a mobile home. When I was very little, maybe 8, I made a friend that lived in the floor. His name was Adam and he was my best friend all that year. He wasn't there every day and he was only there certain times of day, usually right as I would get home from school. Adam always asked me how I was and what I did that day. Sometimes he would ask me to go to different places in the house so he could hear me better, it was usually in the bathroom. I would sit in the tub and talk to him. My brother could hear him too but he lived with my grandparents and wasn't over often. Dad I don't think heard him, but Adam never talked when he was around. He wanted me to go outside a lot and sometimes I did but I never met Adam or saw him. Then one day Adam just stopped talking and I never heard from him again.

I'm not sure if this is a ghost or spirit of some kind. I almost hope it was. That'd be easier to swallow than the very likely story that there was someone under my house.

I was driving home late at night (2-3am), there was this old rusty truck exactly the type you were to see in scary movies. Anyway I went to overtake him and when I look to the right and the guy has no head, I could’ve seen wrong but I swear he didn’t have a head.

Also sometimes I think I hear my recently passed dog but that's a different story.

For starters I'm a police officer verified over on R/Protect&Serve. Couple years ago get a call for service for a burglar alarm going off early in the morning well before sunrise. Respond to to the house and find an open door but no signs of forced entru so begin clearing the home alone (not a great idea to do) making sure no one is inside up to no good. I got through clearing maybe 1/2 of the first floor when I noticed that every photograph hanging in the room I'm in have been turned upside down. That's strange I think to myself, I carry on checking the house and find that every picture I could find AND crucifixs above door ways are inverted as well. Now don't generally scare easy or believe in the paranormal, but in the context of the situation combined with recently having seen one of the paranormal activity movies, my inner reptile brain was scraming NOPE NOPE NOPE. But I'm a cop and I have gun and job to do so I press on. About half way down the stairs in the basement of this house and the power goes out. 3spooky5me I was out of that house, I was not about to be anyone's patient 0, victim, ritual sacrifice or whatever (at least not alone). I had 2 other officers respond to search. We didn't find any signs of a burg but the rest of the house was the same with every picture and religious fixture upside down. I don't know if it was a prank pulled or what, but certainly the creepiest thing I have ever encountered.

So, my dad was a pilot his entire life, and ended up passing away in a plane crash--not his fault, actually I never learned what the cause was, the plane (single-engine) went down shortly after take-off. Ironically enough HIS father had also passed away in a plane crash, when my dad was in his late twenties. A few years ago, to memorialize my dad, I overlaid the words from the poem "High Flight" onto a photo of his plane, since I had also read the poem at his funeral. The following paragraph, regarding the picture, was written by one of his close friends:

"I had a wooden plaque on the wall of my hangar office with this poem on it. On several different occasions I found your dad standing there in silence reading my plaque. Each time he would comment about how he loved that poem. My wooden plaque had hung on that wall without being moved for seven years. I had stopped by the office and was checking my email. The silence in the office was broken by the plaque falling off the wall, hitting the floor and splitting perfectly into two pieces. This was approx one hour before I received the phone call about the crash. When I heard you recite this poem at your dads funeral I got chills. I am forever certain that your dad visited me that day and wanted me to know he was there. The plaque remains today in two pieces displayed on the mantle over my fireplace.".

I personally do not believe in the paranormal but some of the experiences I had at my dad's house as a teenager sometimes make me think otherwise. My whole family experienced plenty of strange happenings at this place but the most jarring occurred when I was 17 years old.

I rarely visited my dad's, but whenever I did make that hour long trip into the nothingness of Wisconsin I was always uneasy of what I might see or hear that night. The house had some very unique features that always struck me as strange, the most notable being a small crawl space in my bedroom that connected to my sister's bedroom adjacent to mine; both sides of this crawl space were fitted with a small door. We never really knew what the purpose of the tunnel was as it was far too small to use for storage and even too cramped for a grown adult to comfortably navigate.

Anyway, this particular night when I went to bed I heard some very strange noises, almost like a faint whimper or crying. I didn't think much of this because it wasn't uncommon for coyotes to come by the house at night looking to prey on our poor barn cats. The night went on and the noises came and went. Struggling to sleep, I went downstairs to grab a glass of water from the kitchen. When I came back into my room I noticed that the door to the crawl space was now ajar and the whimpering had stopped.More than a little startled at this point, I quickly got back into bed and tried my best to fall asleep.

Eventually I was able to fall back asleep but was later awakened when I felt a sinking feeling at the foot of my bed. I assumed that I must have left my bedroom door cracked and one of the house cats had climbed on my bed. I closed my eyes and tried to fall back asleep and was forced awake by the sound of a slamming door. I opened my eyes and noticed that the door to the crawl space had been slammed shut, then I quickly glanced at the foot of my bed and saw the outline of large figure starring at me from the end of my bed. The figure was all black with bright, white eyes. I got out of my bed as fast as I could and ran downstairs; I spent the rest of the night awake on the couch.

I still don't know what I saw or if it was even real. I was ready to chalk it up to sleep paralysis but my sister told me the next morning that she also was woken up by the sound of the crawl space door slamming. That was one of the last times I spent the night there.

And if that wasn't bad enough, 5 years later my dad and step-mom decided to add an extension to the house and when they were digging the foundation for the extension they uncovered grave stones from the 1800's. No thank you...

My good friend shared this story with me and I've never been able to shake it (or retell it as well as him). It's a long story so I'll just tell you the first part, which I find the scariest.

He's about 40 and divorced. Back when he was married with a 1 year old daughter, he and his wife bought a house and moved in. It was apparently an old house that needed some fixing up but they got a good deal and were ready for the work.

After a week or so there he notices a life sized doll in the corner of the nursery where his daughter sleeps. It creeps him out because he's a normal human being, so he turns it around to face the corner so it stops staring at him. After putting the kid to bed, he goes downstairs and asks his wife about it.

"Where did we get that doll?"

She looks at him and says "I don't remember, I assumed someone gave it to you for our daughter and we moved it here."

He's a little weirded out because he didnt remember moving the doll and wonders if maybe it was in the house when they moved in and he didn't notice it.

The next morning he goes to get the kid out of her crib and notices something. The doll isn't facing the corner anymore. It's looking at him again.

I'm getting shivers already just remembering him tell me this. That's enough to creep anyone out so he throws it in the closet and shuts the door.

That night he has an argument with his wife. I don't remember what it was about and it's not really relevent, but the point is they were getting into it a bit, loud and focused enough that they didn't notice their daughter crying upstairs. At a lull in the argument, his wife hears her and says she's going to go check on her, but he just tells her she'll be fine, let's hash this out.

Another minute goes by, and suddenly he realizes he's practically having to shout over the noise of his daughter screaming from her room. It sounds different. It's not a normal cry.

He glances at his wife and quickly starts up the stairs. What he saw when he opened the door literally makes my eyes water with fear when I think about it.

The closet door is open. The life sized doll is sitting next to the crib, motionless.

And it's arms are reaching through the bars towards his daughter. Just stiff and motionless, like it was caught in the act before returning to a doll state.

Needless to say, the doll was thrown out and I believe even burned. There's no explanation for that other than something seriously demonic.

The story of that house goes on for much longer but that’s all I have time to write at the moment.

One time when I was a kid, I was sleeping in my bed but my dog Coda wanted out really bad, so I opened the door and left it cracked for when he wanted back in. I was laying there trying to fall back asleep, but I noticed the door had opened all the way now because the hall light was on and it was distracting. I assumed it was my dog coming back in, so I didn’t think anything of it. Now, he was a big dog, so you can imagine that when a dog jumps on a bed it’s pretty noticeable. But whatever got on my bed was super quiet and light, and I suddenly felt a cold chill. I was facing the wall, and staring with a blank expression because I had no idea what was going on. I knew my dog wasn’t in the room, because I just knew. I always had my dog sleep with me. After I heard some quiet breathing, i decided to get up and leave. I didn’t even look back, I just practically ran out of there and to the opposite end of the house where my moms room was. I knocked on her door and told her there was something in my room, and she pulled me inside and locked her door, and we proceeded to fall asleep about thirty minutes later.

Later that day after I woke up, I felt chills as I walked back towards my bedroom. I was afraid that whatever was in there was still there. As I walked back to my room, I passed the living room and noticed that the front door was cracked open. That freaked me out even more.

Whatever it was, it never happened again in that house, but I still think about that night, and I try to understand what exactly happened and what it could have been.

Mind you, this was a Midwest evening: outside is pitch black. The only light was from the kitchen bulb behind me. It hadn't burned out, instead a 6ft tall something was spontaneously blocking it from right behind me. My cat started growling, crouched low to the ground and stared down the area blocking the light. She backed up into the other room and kept growling. Eventually the shadow left and I could read again. Didn't feel much up to it.

The way the kitchen is set up, they can see into the hallway, and thus see my uncle's bedroom door left slightly ajar.
She said that all of a sudden, this little human man darts out of my uncle's room and disappears down the hallway. My Abuela and her mother both freaked out and ran to check on my uncle, but he was sound asleep.

She insists that it looked like a human man, just the size of what we'd say leprechauns or goblins to be.

This wasn’t as scary as it was very uncomfortable.

When I was in college I moved into a house with some people I didn’t know very well. Almost as soon as I moved in I regularly got the creeps. But, I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want these people to think that I was odd.

One day, I was sitting in the living room watching TV when one of my housemates came in asked if he could talk with me. He then asked me if, when I’m home alone, do I feel like I’m not all alone. It turned out that we’d both been getting the creeps. Both of us had had experiences seeing things before so we weren’t too freaked out.

He said that he knew someone who did seances and he would ask her to come over and perform one. They did schedule a date and time for the event.

One night, I was home alone painting in a basement room that I’d turned into a studio when I felt someone hugging me. It felt like a hug from a child. Every hair on my body stood on end. I went upstairs, grabbed by jacket and boots, and left the house. As soon as I crossed the threshold the feeling went away. I put on my boots and jacket, and left to find my housemates on campus.

When I found my housemates I told them what had happened and that I wanted to have the seance that night because, although I’m cool with sharing my space with ghosts, I’m not cool with being touched by them. My housemate found the woman and we all returned home along with a group of people who wanted to observe.

We cleared the dining room, some of us sat around the table with our hands on the thing that moves around the Ouija board. The woman started to ask if there was anyone in the house who wanted to communicate…and the thing started to move.

Now, although I’ve had a few ghost experiences, I’m still skeptical so I thought that someone was moving the thing around and I was watching out for deception.

The woman asked again if anyone was there and the thing moved to “Yes”. She asked its name and it spelled “Ned”. When she asked how old it was it pointed to “6”. When she asked why it was there it spelled, “Want mama”. When she asked where it’s mother was it spelled, “Mama go bye bye”. That’s when chills went through my spine and a few of the women started sobbing.

The woman performing the seance told Ned to go to the light because his mother was waiting for him there. We wondered if, perhaps, Ned had passed away in the house but didn’t understand what had happened to him.

I lived in that house for two more years and never had another experience. This occurred pre-internet. If it had happened within the past decade or so I would have searched census records to try to identify Ned.

We had the dining area and a little gift shop that sold different kinds of pottery, silverware, etc. I would often be the last to leave and lock up and would hear random sounds like footsteps or something falling on the floor quite regularly but never was phased by it. One night I was called in late to start prepping stuff for the Sunday brunch so probably at around 10-11pm I hear footsteps upstairs and hear the lights coming on. I knew I was the only one there at the time so decided to investigate. Walk up the stairs look around, everything seems normal so I turn out the light and start heading back downstairs when I see the lights come back on. I'm starting to get a bit freaked out so I yell out "hello?" With no response. I walk back upstairs to turn the lights off and as soon as I reached for the switch I see this large vase just sorta lift up and move to the right then drop the the floor. Was I freaked. I have lots of stories. For now I'll share the one from when I was ten and on a field trip.

So I grew up in Northern Virginia, and we had plenty of battlefields and such to visit for school field trips. In fifth grade, my class went to the Belle Grove plantation, which was at Cedar Creek Battlefield. Cool house, still has damage to her columns from gunfire from the battle.

Anyhoo, my class was in the kitchen of the plantation, listening to the tour lady talk about whatever it is you'd tell a bunch of ten year olds about plantation life. There are these big double doors on each side of the room, and they are open. And then we hear humming coming from outside.

The teacher's aide, who I'll call Bulldog 'cause she looked like one, told us that who ever was humming to knock it off. But that's the thing, it wasn't any of us, and it was coming from outside. Bulldog goes out one side of the kitchen, comes back in and goes out the side that leads to the garden. She comes back in, says to the tour lady no one at all is out there, but she could hear the humming right there in the garden.

Doesn't sound like much, right? Well fast forward a few years, amd I'm reading a Ghosts of Virginia book. There's a story about Belle Grove in it.

Apparently the Lady of the house was found in the smokehouse one day, badly beaten, half in the embers, with clear fist imprints on her face. She psses away just a few days later.

And the Lady of the house liked to walk in the garden, and was always humming. And various people over the years was witness, I guess you could say, to the ethereal humming that would take place in the garden.

That just thoroughly freaked me out when I realized I got to witness it too.

A young girl with dark hair covering her head with her hands, looking scared by a true story. This happened about 8 or so years ago around thanksgiving at my grandmas house.

Everyone was asleep except for me. The only people in the house were my grandparents, my mom, brother and I. No one else. (This is key.)

I was on the computer because I couldn't sleep. I turned on a small TV to watch adult swim while i browsed the internet. At around 4:30, I started getting a chill up my spine, and i heard some children laugh. Distinctly the voices of a little girl and boy.

I know im all by myself, as far as being awake, so i turned to look at the tv and it was in the middle of an InuYasha fight sequence so theres no way the laughter was coming from that. I checked the computer sound settings and i had every possible output muted, so it wasnt that either. I sat there confused for a few moments while the giggles of the two children were playing in the background.

I figured maybe the radio in the kitchen was on. It was digital so maybe it just came on for some reason or it had a timer.

I got up, and i kid you not, as i was walking to the door, with each step, the laughter grew louder. From giggling to guffaws to hard laughter. Once the guffaws started, i started to hear a baby cry as well.

Whats going through my mind now is "what the hell kind of radio show is this?" And i just took three steps. Nowhere near the door.

I took a few more steps and the laughter turned hysterical, if not maniacal. The babys cries turned to screams and wails, as if it were in pain. I was trembling and terrified with each step I took to the doorway, but my mind was on autopilot; i needed to get out of there and across the hall to my mom who surely would help me and notice the weird sounds too.

The last couple of steps increased the laughter and crying to an almost deafening decibel. It was like I was at a concert and the speakers were directly in my ears, blasting noise. It was painful and scared the hell out of me. I took all the courage i had and as soon as i reachec the doorway i was going to sprint.

I started to run but then something shoved me. I felt these hands at my chest push me back into the room with enough force to throw me off balance. The crying and laughter stopped as soon as i was back in the room. This all happened within 20-30 seconds, but it felt like 10 minutes.

I was so scared i cried and slept in the tiny arm chair before my grandma came in the room and made me sleep in her bed downstairs.

As I laid in bed trying to get comfortable enough to fall asleep, I heard a rather loud noise coming from the living room, kinda like what would happen if someone jumped off the couch and landed on the floor. I lived in an apartment building on the top floor, so I knew it wasn't coming from below me. On edge now, I continued to lay there listening for any further noise. Suddenly, whatever created the sound in the living room made a thundering dash towards my room. It didn't sound like a person running, more like something four-legged. It was inhumanly fast, and the noise was deafeningly loud until whatever it was stopped on a dime what I assume was about a foot away from my face. I refused to open my eyes just on the off-chance that something was there. The sound ceased, but there was an incredible feeling of dread and darkness that radiated throughout my room for approximately five minutes, but then it simply disappeared instantly and the aura of the room returned to normal. It never happened again the entire time that I lived in that apartment, but it was certainly a wild sequence.

For a couple of years in highschool I worked at a donut shop in town. Old type place they make the donuts fresh every night. All the workers there would talk about how the place was haunted by a former baker. Big burly guy who eventually just slept in his car pit back. My shift would start right before the restaurant/front closed and before the bakers came in for the night. I'd be alone in the shop. The back where the baking would get done would get absolutely disgusting. Jam and glaze all over the floor to the point before I swept I'd have to scrape the floor with a paint scraper attached to a stick. I as an extremely lazy person figured out I could just duct tape cardboard over the really bad areas and make my job way easier no more jam floors. Well problem with that was that it basically cut my shifts in half. So I'd spend the time I'd normally be scraping jam of the floor simply sitting in the front at the counter. Well one day Im sitting there stealing time from the sweet owners I see some movement out of the corner of my eye. Looked like some one wearing flannel walking from the back to the front of shop then turning and running into the back again. I thought I had just been caught milking the clock by the owner. I never heard any noise of anyone coming in. So I go to the back to check and who caught me, face the music so to speak. No oNE there. I was so convinced I saw some one. When I was about 14 I was sleeping over at a friend's house in the finished basement. I was lying on the couch, not asleep yet, when I heard footsteps in the room with me. There was enough light to see there was no one there, and I knew it wasn't his parents because I would have heard them come down the creaky stairs.

It freaked me out a bit, but not as much as when I told my friend about it the next day and he informed me that the previous owners of the house had passed away. In the basement.

Till this day when I tell people about my "breathing doll" they don't believe me. They just say it was me or my vivid imagination, but my doll breathing was real, and one of the most vivid memories of my childhood, especially with unexplained experiences.

I first saw the doll at a flea market, I was with my mom and grandmother, and fell in love with it. It was a big doll about 14."

After begging my mom to buy it and failing, my grandma bought it for me, man, I loved that doll like it was a real baby. I bought it baby clothes, shoes, bottles and the such. Took him everywhere, I named him Rocky, people often thought I was holding my baby brother.

Well one day I was outside playing with Rocky and I was being a little too rough with him, throwing up in the air and letting him fall, repeatedly. Scolding him when he wouldn't sit still on my bike. So I got him and threw him as high as I could and tried to catch him but he slipped through my hands and hit the ground.

I picked him up to dust him off and that's when I heard him breathing. It was heavy and angry and fast, just like some one would sound when they're really pissed.

I throw him on the ground and stare at him shaking, terrified, I leave him on the ground and run inside. My mom asks what's wrong and I tell herwhat happened. She laughs it off as it was nothing and says I'm being silly and to go and pick up him and bring him inside. I refused to touch him and screamed when she tried to force me.

She gave up and picked him up and looked at him and said " see he's just a doll, stuffing and plastic, he's not real, he can't breath"..

That was the last day I ever played with dolls. I gave him to my brother for a home economics project he had, where you carry around a bag of flour and pretend it's a baby or so something. Anyways, he used it's head and attached it to the bag of flour to make it more babyish, he ended up getting extra credit for that.

A few years later the whole Chucky crazy and doll movies were all the rage. All the while I had a real demon doll of my own.

I asked. thinking it was a bathroom run or something. She pointed into the living room and said, "someones walking around in there". I turned and looked and there was a silhouette of a man in front of the TV. He place himself perfect to be seen down the hallway. He stood there, what felt like two minutes "staring" at us, then faded out. Normally when you see a shadow its gone in a blink. HE did not do that. It felt purposeful. Like we were supposed to see him. Very uncomfortable feeling.

Back when I was 14, my town had an abandoned nursing home that my friends and I loved to mess around in and smoke. We were always aware of the eerie feeling but didn't mind it. The way inside the building was through a broken window on the first floor that entered what would be a patients room. We got our bowl packed, and for whatever reason, I wanted to close the door to the room. Now I understand that a gust of wind can pull a door shut, but these doors were pretty heavy, and since the building was so old, it required some force to close it. Now, when I tell you this door got ripped from my hands and slammed shut, I mean it. I just remember turning around screaming and seeing my friend just head first dive out of the window. It's funny looking back on it, but I still remember that feeling of being genuinely terrified.

We've also had things from the 3rd story in the stairwell that just get thrown down the shaft. Vases, rolls of toilet paper. That never spooked us too much, so rather than running, we would investigate, and we never saw or heard anyone.

The nursing home was burnt down by a kid in my grade at the time.

I can only describe it as a massive black mist. As tall as the room. The first time it had an arm that tried to reach around me in the reflection. The second time it did nothing. I was living with my parents after college for a few months, back in 2011. They had a really creepy basement with 2 bedrooms down there. I was living in one of the rooms. Long basement with laundry and storage room and a long living room. One day I was walking to the stairs and a penny flew out of the storage room into the living room right in front of me, about 3ft off of the ground. It did a big circle on the floor then stopped. I immediately thought someone was messing with me, but I went in the room if flew out of, and there was no one there. I was actually alone at the house. It made absolutely no sense to me. From the trajectory it flew in front of me, there is no way I could have kicked the penny on accident. My uncle had just passed away of cancer a few weeks prior, maybe he was messing with me from the other side.

Last Christmas I was over at my fiance's place. The two of us were doing homework and just sort of hanging out. During a lull in the conversation I heard what I thought sounded like tiers screeching on the pavement. It was very far away and given that down town was near by and I'm partially deaf I shouldn't have been able to hear it.

I didn't mention the sound because my fiance didn't seamed bothered. So I brushed it off as sound travelling wired in the city. Five minutes later it happens again, but closer this time. She looked over at me with her eyebrow raised. Again down town is close and we brushed it off as noise coming from there.

The next time was about five blocks away. It happened thirty seconds after the other, which is way to fast for anybody to travel from down town to where we were. We both noticed something this time. 1. the pitch was changing continuously so it couldn't be a recording 2. it wasn't a screech of tires, but an un-describable inhuman scream.

We looked at each other and laughed sort of half-heatedly while trying to still make light of our situation only to be cut off. Whatever was screaming had gotten to the end of our street in ten seconds. We both jumped into action, started locking windows and doors and were half-way down the hall to her room when the fifth and final wail sounded. I kid you not, this thing must have been at the apartment steps.

We bolted into her room and she ripped an older book off her shelf. I've never seen someone skim through pages so fast. Next thing I know we're taking protective measures and actively trying not to think about what just happened. A few hours later, with us not making a sound during that time, her mother comes home and we race to tell her our story. It takes her about ten minutes before she looked us both in our eyes and say, "sounds like a banshee."

I don't know what it was or what happened to it, but that is hands down the spookiest thing that I've ever experienced to this day.

We have a ton of backroads near our town in Pennsylvania that my friends and I love exploring because they just take you to random old farms or hidden trails in the forest. We do this a lot in our past time together.

So my two friends leave my boyfriends house (I stayed because i was spending the night with him) and they decide to go exploring.

They go down a road they’ve never seen before and are driving on it for about fifteen minutes until they come across a house. The house is white and deserted, except for the light of a fridge in the kitchen that they can see through the window. Creepy, but they continue on.

They go further down the road and come to the end. A house is in front of them with a garage on the side. The garage door is open and no lights are on. It’s already creepy enough and they decide to turn around when they see something.

A dog walks out of the garage and just stares at the car.

They told me it had a very human like face.

I’ve asked them about this both separately, years apart. They didn’t know what they saw, but they said that this creature had the face of a human. Body of a dog, face of a human.

Maybe it was a bulldog or a pitbull? Something with a human like face? No. Face of a human. Too sentient looking.

They’re screaming and freaking out because they can hardly process what they are looking at. They actually went back a second time because they were in shock about the whole thing.

The same thing happens, creatures walks out of the garage and calmly stares at them.

They turned the car around and sped away.

Another weird thing is that as they were speeding away terrified, they remember passing an old pickup truck on the road. About five minutes later, going the exact same direction, they pass the exact same truck again. The road was one way and surrounded with trees. Maybe it was a bizarre coincidence but it looked like the exact same truck, parked in the exact same place.

I spent a year living in and overseeing a haunted dorm in Texas that had once been an orphanage. Over that year, I had many paranormal experiences, but most weren't scary. Two, however, were.

To start, though, I'll tell you about my first two nights there. The first night, I had come back after dinner with former coworkers. I had spent my day moving, and with going out for dinner, I didn't have time to unpack anything more than my bedding before calling it a night.

That night, I had a dream that a boy about 10-12 years old came bounding through the front and bedroom doors of my apartment and into the bed where I slept, as though he was saying hi. The bedroom door was right inside the apartment's front door, so from my bed, I could see out into the hallway where an adult male stood. I couldn't make out any features, just more of an impression of him. He stood back, arms crossed, just watching.

Weird dream, but just that, a dream. But when I woke up the next morning, both my doors were wide open. Maybe I didn't shut them all the way, though I swore I had locked them. Maybe one of the girls was curious and snuck in. Except it happened again the next morning, and I know the doors were closed and locked.

I wanted to set that up before I tell the first scary incident. It's important, because the floor was haunted by 3 ghosts, a pre-teen boy, a nun, and an evil, male spirit (a fact I didn't learn until after I had been there for a few weeks and already had a handful of experiences under my belt). I have never been good at the whole sleep thing, and at the time, falling asleep often took hours. When I did fall asleep, the slightest thing could wake me up.

One night, I awoke with a start. It was like someone had put their hands right by my ears and clapped loudly. When I woke, I looked at the foot of my bed and saw a tall dark shadow that blocked part of my door and the small sink and mirror to the left of the door. My bed backed up to a window, and a streetlight outside kept my room pretty well lit at night. It made the black shadow I saw seem even deeper in comparison to the other things I could see in the yellowy light.

Of course, I didn't just see the shadow. I felt overwhelming hate radiating off the shadow. Whatever it was did not want me there. Problem was that, in order to escape, I would have had to run right to it as it blocked the doorknob. So I did the only thing I could think of that didn't involve escaping through it or jumping out my third-story window. I threw the blankets over my head and repeated the Lord's Prayer until I fell asleep.

I did see that shadow once more, in a situation similar to the first. The only difference is that I saw the shadow start to form. It started as a black ball that sprialed out, growing into the shadow person. I handled it as I did the first time: hiding and praying until I fell asleep. I am convinced these visits were the evil, male spirit.

The second terrifying thing happened on the first floor. My boss asked me to catalog what was in the first floor's rooms that were not occupied. One of the RAs went with me, and together, we walked from room to room making a list of what we found.

Directly under my room was a laundry room, but unlike the one on my floor, this one contained a hallway that stretched back in an s-shape and was lined from floor to ceiling with storage closets. As we walked deeper within the hallway, we grew quiet. Everything felt wrong, like if we kept walking further, we would see something horrible, or worse, we wouldn't make it out alive. So, we bailed. My boss would understand.

Upon leaving the laundry room, there was one room left to check. I opened the door into what seemed like a monster storage room. A window on the far wall showed a few outlines of shapes (I remember seeing a bike wheel), but not much else. And the room was so dark. It also felt so much worse than the laundry room. I couldn't bring myself to reach into the gloom to find a light switch. If I had a flashlight, I know I wouldn't have turned it on. The room radiated evil, and I knew that turning on the lights would illuminate whatever was the source of that feeling. So, I slammed the door shut and left in a hurry.

I have other stories from that year, but they tend to deal with the little boy, who was very playful or the nun, who was very soothing.

Oh I have one. This happened when I was around 5 or 6 ish. I lived in this isolated house so there was pretty much no one around for miles. We had a car garage and me, my sister, and cousin were playing at night around 10pm. At one point me and my sis were trying to hop on my cousins back, since he was the tallest, and we all ended up facing the garage wall. At this point, I felt like someone was watching me so I turned. I kid you not, there was this transparent looking man standing in front of our house just staring at me. I froze and stared back to see what I was seeing was real. We eye locked for at least 4 sec which felt like eternity. My plan was to keep an eye on him until the others also turn and confirm what I was seeing was real. But at this point I couldn’t hear my sister laughing or my cousin, it was super quiet. I kept on calling my cousins name but I didn’t hear back. At this point I thought they were d**d. I freaked out lost my eye contact with the ghost turned and screamed my cousin’s name again. All the sudden I could hear them laughing, I quickly turned back and he was gone. I cried telling my cousin to go back in the house and it isn’t safe outside. All he did was giggle. I told my mom about this years later and she said we had two different maids that lived in the guest house who started screaming in the middle of the night because they saw this ghost looking man. Idk still to this day i am afraid of ghosts. And thank god I left that house. I had so many weird dreams and experiences in that place.

Well, when I was 11 I transferred school districts and ended up in a middle school. I knew no one at first, but I slowly grew into a small group of friends that were loner types like myself.

One of my friends, I'll call her Anna, was quiet and low-key. At this point, I didn't know my new friends very well and had only been at their homes a couple times to visit. Anna's family was very warm and welcoming. They were intelligent and easy going, just like her.

One morning I walked into the common area of our school with the plan of hanging out with my friends a little before classes started.

Everything seemed completely normal, absolutely no one was acting out of character. One friend was doodling in her sketch book, as was her thing, and the other three, Anna included, were chatting and laughing about some random topic.

When I think back on it, the memory of me walking up to Anna is always in slow motion. I remember the edges of my vision fading out a bit leaving me with just a tunnel focused on her face. As I was taking my final steps to stand next to her, I could physically feel an image developing in my brain. If you've ever seen ice crystallizing on a window pane, that's what was happening in my brain. It's as if my thoughts had all been liquid, but at this moment a single thought was solidifying, become real. I can still feel that same sensation today.

The image had sharp edges, I could feel the object in my head, like it was trying to root itself in there.

I came to a stop in front of Anna. Before she could even say hi to me, I realized what the image was of. A chandelier. Without a second to pause, I looked directly at her and blurted out "Why am I seeing a chandelier when I look at you?"

Anna kinda froze in mid movement and quickly snapped at me "How do you know that?" I was confused. "Know what?"

She paused and mellowed for a moment. Then she simply said to me "My uncle k****d himself last night. He hung himself from the chandelier in the dining room."

I don't remember saying much more after that. I took what she told me and she took what I told her and that was that.

Whenever people in my life today bring up supernatural things, I rarely ever mention it. I have no answer for it and I have no intention of "honing my skills" or even entertaining that thought process like some people suggest.

I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 at twenty and I am prone to psychosis during my episodes. I've had people try to convince me that my hallucinations are d**d people trying to communicate or that my delusions have foundations in the supernatural. I've had far too many people tell me to quit my meds because what I have is a "gift".

Nowadays, when the subject is brought up, I'll just tell people "Maybe in another life, but for now I have to live this one.".

I've told this story before, but I don't feel like searching my comment history to find it.

I was driving home from work at night - night like it was dark, but not too late (probably 830-9?)

I was not drunk or on any d***s, I was not sleepy, it was not storming, etc.

It wasn't backwoods or anything (I live in a moderately sized city), but it was a somewhat back road and I was the only car in that stretch of road. All of the sudden, a little girl ran out into the road from the right - she was wearing one of those mid century looking dresses that reminded me of pictures of my mom: frilly knee length red dress with one of those fake white apron things on it. Pigtails. She looked like she was chasing something. She looked up at me and before I could even complete my panic response of trying to stop/swerve she f*****g disappeared.

I have no explanation for this. I drove that same stretch of road for the next year or so while I lived on that side of town and never saw her again.

I've got a few, but the one that stands out the most involves an old farmhouse that had partly burned down and never been demolished. The local urban legend was that the last family who had lived in it had died, about 20 years before; the father k****d his wife, and his child/ren (varied with the telling) and then k****d himself. The house caught fire later/he lit the house on fire, again, depending.

There was a standing dare: spend the night in the house. Supposedly, someone had, and was sent to a mental hospital. Other kids tried, but got spooked. Or saw something (just keeping an open mind, given my experience).

There were four of us, kids aged 12-14, who tried to spend a night in this old house. Our parents weren't thrilled with the idea, so we decided to walk to the house from a friend's house one night, while sleeping over. His parents were sound sleepers, and he had his own door out of his house (basement bedroom).

To make a long story short(er), we got there, we lay down in a large room that still had some ceiling (in retrospect, probably not the best idea, structurally, but we were fortunate). Then, all four of us woke up at once, and for the same reason -- near as we could tell. We'd all started awake in response to someone screaming our names. One guy said it sounded like his mother. I thought mine sounded like my father. It was like a simultaneous nightmare, but -- given what we were up to -- even that wasn't too inexplicable.

The creepy part happened when we heard a scream from upstairs: a woman's voice, shrill and panicked. It didn't sound like a scream from the movies; there were babbled words, and some other garbled noises that didn't sound quite right. Then, there was a loud *THUMP*, and then nothing for a few moments.

Then, we heard a gradual *thudding* sound, as though something were being dragged across rooms, and was knocking against furniture and doorways. We stayed where we were, each of us listening intently, until we realized that we could hear this thudding sound at the top of the stairs leading down into the room where we were at.

Someone shone a flashlight at the highest point we could see. Nothing was visible. Then, there was another *thunk*, like something had dropped a few inches onto a lower surface, like the next stair down. Within the beam of the flashlight, a flying insect took off. So did we.

I've told the story before, but exaggerated it, saying that we heard sounds from where we should have been able to see something. The truth is, there *could* have been someone upstairs, possibly with a stereo with haunted noises (for, some reason; it doesn't make much sense, but it's more rational than ghosts). It's still the most terrifying moment of my young life, easily.

**TL,DR:** Heard screams and "thunks" while spending the night, on a dare, in a burned-out farmhouse that was supposedly haunted by the ghosts of a m******d family.

This was about 10 years ago now, lived in an apartment with my then 4 year old daughter (just the two of us). Odd things would happen pretty frequently. I would clean the downstairs (I clean very thoroughly), go upstairs, come back down and things like a box of wine markers were on the counter. Light switch in my room would turn on and off so much I changed to a fluorescent tube light into a plug. Picture a shop light, with a chain pull...that started doing the same thing (not the light flickering, the chain would be pulled). In the winter, when the windows were all plastic-sealed, my door would slowly open - all the way while I watched (we had baseboard heat). Once came downstairs after preheating the oven to the oven door wide open. This thing was spring loaded and wouldn’t have fallen open, nor did I open it. Not all that into hauntings prior to this, etc., but just chalked it up to a non-threatening entity because too much happened that I couldn’t explain. This stuff would happen when it was just me in the house without the kiddo - sober as a jaybird.

One day I tried to take pictures with a digital camera to see if I could capture anything. Take a few pics, nothing off, then as I turn toward the bathroom, half the picture is jet black, third I faced toward the bathroom fully - camera dies. Fully charge it and take a few elsewhere and it’s working fine until I point it there again, camera dies.

While we’re there my daughter had pretty frequent nightmares, and kind of half woke up from them. She sleeps like a bear so I didn’t really think much of it. The night I took those pictures she has a really bad one. After like 10 minutes of half-sleep I get her to come to, and she said her back hurts where the man scratched it. She’s in full length footed pajamas, which I remove to check and she’s got scratches on several parts of her back. Places that would be incredibly difficult to reach, and nothing in her bed.

She goes on to tell me that a tall man with hot hands put his hand on her back and told her to look at all the others, which she said there were a lot of.

Was out within a month. Never felt more terrified and helpless. I was SUPER poor at the time but we spent a few weeks at my brothers until I found something else.

To this day, when I bought my house it was only out of sheer embarrassment that I didn’t have a medium check the place first (it’s been fine).

Never had anything like that happen afterward but I’ll swear up and down that it was more than contrived coincidence.

This happened just the other night. I don't think there's anything paranormal about it, but I can't explain it.

I live in a dense part of town, near what we call town center. Big, well-lit streets, lots of businesses, lots of lights, a mall, large hospital, and nice suburban area tucked behind it all. So it's not spooky to drive or even walk at night, and I often take late night drives to do grocery shopping at a place that's open almost 24/7 (no lines, great deli).

I am driving along and notice a woman walking in the opposite direction I am driving, on the sidewalk. Like I mentioned the area is well lit at night, I get a good look at her. Early 20's, long brown hair, wearing a kind of smart burberry scarf and a tan sweater, tight dark pants, brown boots. I remember thinking she looked a little bit too well dressed to be walking down that particular part of the city street at 11PM but whatever - maybe she drank too much at one of the many restaurants or comedy club about a 20 min walk away and decided to walk home. I've done it. As I pass she looks up, right at me, we make eye contact.

About 10 minutes later I reach the grocery store in question. I walk into the entrance and retrieve a basket, I notice someone exiting so move to the side to let them pass. I look up and I swear it was the same woman. She glances at me and grins but keeps walking. I stood there dumbfounded as she rounds the corner out of sight.

I took a few steps into the store, responded to the greeting of a passing worker without really having processed what they said, then decided to quickly walk back outside and see where she went. Despite the parking lot being large and very well lit, and the only cars being mine and the two that were there when I arrived, I saw no one.

It could have been another woman that looked remarkably similar and had the same tastes in clothes. That's what I figure. But it was weird as hell to experience all the same.

When I was 11 and my younger brother, Ryan, was 7 our parents divorced and we went to live with my Grandparents on a farm in Iowa. My brother and I loved it there and had adjusted well, I was the class clown and my brother and I had a blast exploring the farm and spending time with our friends.

One day, out of the blue, Mom came home with this guy James. James lived with his daughter Sharon, a couple of states away in Wyoming. Mom told us he was going to be our new Dad and were going to move into his house in Wyoming. We didn't even know she was dating anyone. Within a week she had pulled us from school and we were living in James’s house with his daughter Sharon who was 17. James also had a 15 year old son Matt, who had ran away from home. I got Matt’s room in the basement. My brother was in the basement room across from me while everyone else was upstairs.

When Sharon took us to our new bedrooms in the basement, the entrance room at the basement landing had all these naked dolls piled up in a corner. My brother Ryan and I were like what the c**p are these? Sharon said her brother Matt used to take her dolls and t*****e them. They were all naked with some arm or legs missing even some had burn marks on them. Being in sixth grade I was like well I guess it is kind of like blowing up army men with firecrackers, trying to justify it in my 11 year old mind. Sharon then took us to our rooms. It was a pretty small basement with only 2 bedrooms with cold concrete floors. It was the 80’s so the house was not well insulated and I always remember it being cold in the basement. There was a massive metal door that connected the garage to the basement so you could exit the basement by the garage stairs or the stairs from upstairs. The basement garage door was very hard to push open and shut as they had put a big insulation strip around and under the door to keep the cold air out. Being 11 and weighing 100 lbs soaking wet I had to lay my shoulder into it to get it open and shut but it was a quick way out of the house. We often went this way so we didn’t have to go upstairs where Mom, James and Sharon would be. Ryan and I spent as much time outside of that house as we could. Either exploring the barn James had on his property or walking across the road was a huge open pasture next to his the property.

My brother Ryan and I were pretty innocent about many things, we were pretty silly and everything was funny too us, or we did stupid things like the kids in the movie "Stand by Me" if you have seen that. James our new “Dad” was the opposite, a disciplinarian, we had to eat every piece of food on our plates or sit there for hours at the table if we didn't. For example, they made us eat summer sausage they had made for almost every meal for like a month straight, I think they were trying to get rid of it as they had made too much. We hated it but James and my Mom didn't really care about that. It makes me want to gag writing about it after all these years.

Well after getting settled into our new rooms in the basement my brother and I noticed two things. One was Ryan’s room was bare with nothing but a bed. My room or should I say Matt’s room was as exactly as he had left it. He had his posters on the wall, homework sitting out, had a hunting knife we found in the desk, even his clothes were still in the closet, it is like he was still living there. From day one my brother did not leave my side he slept on the rug beside my bed, I was kind of a b******d as I didn’t let him sleep in my bed with me because well I was 11 and he was my brother, so that was not have been cool but I was scared to sleep by myself in that room and thankful my brother slept with me in the same room.

After about a day or two of living there my brother and I started exploring Matt’s room. He had a locked box that we had found that we couldn’t find the key for. We were searching everywhere we could to find the key. We pulled out the bed and found that Matt had cut a hole in the back of the bed’s headboard. I thought for sure the key would be in there, but instead we found these life size cardboard cutouts of naked women. Matt had meticulously cut out these centerfolds (it was the 80’s) from magazines and glued them on these cardboard pieces that matched the images. There were several naked cardboard women that he must have taken out and used played house with or whatever he would do with them. We found other things that young kids shouldn’t see in that room and basement. Some really jacked up books on bondage and other stuff we had no idea what any of it was about at that age. We never did find the key the box either. My brother Ryan and I were scared that we would get caught with these things and we were to afraid to tell anyone because nobody in that house liked us, so we hid them back in the headboard of that bed. At night I would go to bed and sometimes I would dream about naked women in cardboard shapes coming after me, as I hadn’t hid puberty these were bad dreams not good ones.

About a month into living at the house everyone was fighting, Mom and James weren’t getting along, Sharon hated my brother and I, James hated us as well. My brother was super stubborn especially about the food thing, when James would make him sit there for hours at the dinner table, until bedtime. We felt like we had won a victory over James because Ryan would hold out so long without eating the sausage, but then James found our weak spot, he found out Ryan and I slept in the same room at night and started making Ryan sleep in his own bedroom. Once we were separated, into sleeping by ourselves I felt scared, and lonely. Ryan was worse he had nightmares about Matt coming to k**l him. One night Ryan was screaming and I ran in and found him covered in blood I he said Matt had tried to k**l him. My Mom said he had a bloody nose while he was dreaming. He got a lot of bloody noses that winter as the air was cold and dry in the basement. My brother and I found a way around being split up though. After James made sure Ryan was in his bed and not in my bedroom, Ryan would sneak into my room and sleep. He would go back to his bedroom in the morning before anyone got up.

There were lots of really jacked up things that happened but there is one thing that bothers me to this day, and why am writing this. I was playing by myself on the garage steps with my army men. I had opened the big heavy metal door and was just playing with the army men. I was the only one in the house for whatever reason. For some reason I grabbed a couple of the dolls laying around the corner and at first I just made them part of my army war but then I made them kiss. I’m not sure why I did that, like I said I wasn’t really into girls or hit puberty yet. All’s I know is the giant metal door behind me slammed shut. The door that I could barely budge just slammed shut two feet behind me. I knew I was the only person there and I knew there was no way that door would shut by itself. I was so scared I just acted like I was still playing army men for about 5 seconds then ran up the garage stairs as fast as I could thinking any moment something was going to grab me before I made it out of the house. I stayed outside until my Mom came home. I never told her what happened until later on in life.

Not too long after that my Mom and James split up and my brother and I moved back with my grandparents. That is when my Mom told me some other little things like Matt had actually committed s*****e and not run away (she had to explain what s*****e was to me). He had hanged himself in the barn my brother and I played in all the time. Thanks for the heads up after the fact Mom!

I believe in good and evil in this world that house and environment was evil. I have never seen any ghosts or aliens or anything like that but that door slamming shut by itself happened. It wasn’t air movement in the house, or pressure, something evil closed it.

My family has very old cottage in mountains, where I like to spend time every summer. last summer something really scary happend: Evening (fast midnight), Im downstairs in my room and am reading book. My grandparents are upstairs, they are (probably) sleeping. How I said, this cottage is very old and has thin walls so sometimes you can hear what you really dont want to hear, for example my grandparents wake up often through the night because they need to go pee, but when they go to the bathroom, whole cottage shakes. Especially when they are on stairs, everyone else hears their steps.

so Im in my bed and reading my book when I suddenly hear some weird noice upstairs, near the staircase. First one short shaking and then steps! But which steps! It sounds like kids steps, without shoes! and what is the most scary: they stop in the middle of the staircase and then nothing!!! Nothing more!!! Well, Im so scared at that moment, that I'm hiding under the blanket and trying to fall asleep very fast because Im downstairs totally alone!

But what was the (second) most scariest thing, next morning my grandparents asked me, what I was doing at midnight on the staircase, that they both woke up because heard some steps but saw nobody...... well, its not first weird thing I've witnessed there so I am starting to believe that we have very scary cottage.

When i was 16 i woke up on a Wednesday night about 2am and there was a ghostly figure walking up the middle of my bedroom floor. I froze and reached for the light on my bedside locker but it wouldn't switch on. So as a coping mechanism i decided the only thing i could do was to hide under the duvet and hope it all goes away. After about ten minutes i peek out and notice the light is now on. The room is empty and i managed not to urinate on the sheets which is always a good thing.

The female that was in my room was dressed in black and i could make the outline of her face out, she spoke softly saying "don't mind me". That didn't settle me in any way, in fact i think it made it worse.

So fast forward to that Saturday night, i had friends over and i had a new phone which at the time was pretty cool because it had a camera on it. We were taking pictures and messing about. Two days later i noticed in one of the photos that this lady was sitting at a chair at my kitchen table right behind where my friend was sitting. I freaked out, it was her and i thought i was losing my mind. For about a week after this i noticed strange things in the house like the cupboards in the kitchen all being open when i walked in to it, the front door being unlocked when i knew i locked it. I had terrible nightmares for this week too. I finally bottled it and told my parents what was happening.

Once i had told my parents everything and showed them the photo they took me to our parish priest who to my surprise immediately came to our house with us. He opened the front and back door and said prayers as he blessed the house and said a few words.

An interesting thing he said was about the area i live in, he said he has seen so many strange and frightening things on the hill which he cant speak about but claimed what happened to me was minor compared to what others had endured. I asked more questions until he finally told me what has been happening and why.

We live on a mountain side above a small town which has become very built up with houses and activity. About 3 miles from this group of houses there is a castle which is around 3000 years old which is notorious for its hauntings and cruel history. I was informed that anyone k****d in the castle would have been buried over the land where my house is and there is a lot of activity and a lot of lost souls in the area.

The hill i live on is called the bridal loanan which is based in warrenpoint, county down, northern Ireland. The castle is called narrow water castle. Feel free to look in to the history of the castle and as to why the hill has its name.

From the stories i have heard the hill is called the bridal loanan because whilst trying to get away on horseback from the castle with his new bride a knight had his head severed off and the bride was able to still guide the horse along the hills alone hence the bridal loanan.

Hope you enjoyed this, I have had other encounters in this time but il keep them for another time.

I don't think this is paranormal but I do think it is a creepy coincidence. Last night, I had a horrible nightmare where I was being taunted by a ghost. It was a creepy, young girl (similar to the Ring) and it was following me in my dream and contacting me through my phone to tell me it was nearby. When it would call, my phone would get all wonky- everything on the screen would get blurred. In my dream, I ran and ran and somehow ended up at my grandparents' house, where my sister was. I asked her for help and she was giving me advice. The dream ended with her ominously concluding that maybe the girl was actually protecting me from something more sinister. Then I woke up (this was about 4:30am). I don't have nightmares very often, so I was extremely unsettled. I was convincing myself that it was all just a dream, so I grabbed my cell phone to show myself that the screen was normal and not haunted or blurred or whatever. Strangely, I had a text from my sister, who lives about 9 hours away, with the time stamp of 20minutes earlier. It said (this is copy and pasted directly from the text) "I just woke up from the middle of my sleep with this really weird intense feeling that something was wrong with you. Let me know you’re ok. It was weird (and sorry I sound like a weirdo texting you at 4 am to say that). I just want to know you’re ok." Again, in my dream I had gone to her for help when the ghost was pursing me. I believe it was just a weird coincidence that we both woke up at 4am and that our dreams were very similar (I asked for help, she dreamed I needed help), but it left me disturbed for the rest of the night, until I finally fell back asleep. I called my sister this morning and she said that when she woke up, she thought I was in the room with her because she had heard my voice so clearly in the dream. She told our Mom the story and my Mom laughed it off- my mom is an identical twin and I guess they used to have similar dreams. This was a new experience for me!

Never told anyone, as they would think I was crazy. When my sister was pregnant with her first, I started picking up her thoughts, feelings and impressions of her surroundings in massive bursts when she was stressed.

The first time it happened, and I later learnt what had happened to prompt it, I thought that was weird. But I was very aware of confirmation bias and 'fitting' things at a later date. So, the next times it happened I made a specific note of the exact time and what my impressions were. And, without fishing for specific times and dates, I later learnt that they correlated with things like her slipping and sliding down the stairs.

When she gave birth, I felt it when she tore and had to be rushed to hospital (from the birthing unit) while losing a lot of blood. The last one I got was about a month in, when the baby wouldn't stop crying and she was exhausted and hadn't slept for so long and just wanted to scream in the baby's face. It faded after that.

I like to think maybe her sharing these moments with me made them easier to cope with, rather than her just broadcasting her distress indiscriminately on some psychic wavelength. I did go check on her, and offer some support, after the 'screaming at the baby' desperate projection, so she could catch some sleep.

I worried when I didn't get them with her second, that maybe she was sending to her firstborn instead (who might not cope as well as me). Her firstborn was a toddler at the time, and couldn't have vocalised it. Or maybe, since I and her firstborn turn out to be quite similar, the link was actually because of the firstborn child's link to me.

Ouija board. I’m pretty sceptical of these, as I always think someone is pushing the planchette.

I was on a ghost hunt (I know, I know), at an Aircraft museum near where I live. The guy leading the group, who was nowhere near the board asked if the ‘spirit’ we were talking to wanted to speak to anyone specific, at which point it pointed at me (wasn’t on the board, stood next to it watching). The information that proceeded to come out after this was completely accurate and specific about my nan. No one in the group, including my friend (also nowhere near the board)would have known any of this. I’m still healthily sceptical of the paranormal, but that really shook me up.

I have a few. Here's the most interesting in my opinion. I'll try to keep it short.

My parents and I were taking a tour at a house we were looking to move into. I remember when we walked past one of the rooms downstairs I got goosebumps when I looked into it. The lights weren't working at the time so the realtor left it dark making it even creepier to me.

Fast forward a few months and we moved into the house. I hadn't really thought about the room since then. One day I was just kicking a ball around downstairs out of boredom. At one point I swear I could see something out of the corner of my eye. I looked towards it and it actually stayed for a split second then vanished. It looked like a little girl wearing a bright white night gown and it was standing right in the doorway of that room. It scared the c**p out of me so I ran upstairs and told my parents. They laughed it off and told me I was just spooking myself.

Few weeks later I was doing the same thing. Kicking a ball around downstairs. Again, I saw something out of the corner of my eye. This time I didnt look at it right away. I made an attempt to kinda glance at it and make it out just in my peripheral view. It was a tall dark figure this time. Then I decided to look and again it stayed for a split second and vanished. It was definitely a taller dark male figure, standing in the doorway of the room, and it was pointing inside of said room. Needless to say I stopped kicking that ball around downstairs.

Weeks later I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. When I came back and tried to go to sleep I heard knocking on the wall (my room shared a wall with the spooky room). It would knock a few times, then I heard what sounded like a baby crying in that room, then the knocking would start again, then repeat. It went on for a while and I was too frozen with fear to investigate. I eventually fell asleep and I had a dream about me walking past that room, and I saw a tall man hanging from a noose in the middle of the room with the girl in the white nightgown crying in the corner and a little boy running in circles around the hanging man.

Since then I havent had any other experiences with that room and my family thinks I'm just trying to spook them when I try to tell them about it. I'm now living on my own and glad to be away from there lol.

TL;DR There is a spooky haunted room in my parent's house.

Not ghost story: was a small kid, maybe 6 or so. woke up in the middle of the night and decided it was a good idea to open up my dresser drawer and sleep in it. the dresser fell on top of me, and when I opened my eyes I was in a dark room with a light far off. I crawled to it, and when I opened my eyes again I was outside of the dresser and my mom burst into my room. this was around the same age where I found out I am very sensitive to energies and had slight psychic abilities, never honed it though.

ghost story: about age 14 or 15, doing laundry and switching my clothes from the washer to the dryer. I got a very strange youre-being-watched feeling, and the strap of my tank top breaks. I look behind me to see a shadow inside the wall, I think a male figure, *woosh* off! im unsure if it was a friendly spirit or not, as I have had many dreams where I felt a similar presence and it was NOT friendly.

alien-something story: this one I tell all the time! was on a late night drive into seward, Alaska and pulled the car over to grab some tea from the trunk. was taking a moment to enjoy the stars when I a saw a green portal open up in the sky and something (maybe it looked like a star before? im not sure) shoot into it. I wish I could go back and relive that moment honestly lol

another alien-something story: was with a group of friends (still in Alaska) and we had all stepped out to have a smonk. just having normal conversation, and for some reason we all stop talking at the exact same time, and a small spherical shape rushes into our circle and then disappears. it was completely black, but more than black, like it was a hole in space because my brain could barely comprehend the blackness and its undefined edges. we all saw it, and stood in shock for minutes after it disappeared.

    Not creepy, just annoying.

My fiance and his friend group have a poltergeist. It hides small things and then leaves them in the middle of empty rooms. On different occasions it's stolen my fiance's books, computer mouse, and divination supplies (3 times, same deck); my inhaler, one specific cook pot, and notebooks; a few friends' craft supplies and small electronics.

Usually if you call it out it returns them in the next day or two. It's not just an issue of overlooking things, either. I completely emptied out my small purse before vacation looking for the inhaler, never found it. As soon as I get to the in-laws it's bulging out the side of my purse so far the zipper is half-undone.

It seems more puckish than malicious, so no real harm done.

I grew up in seriously a haunted house, so it takes a lot for something paranormal to really scare me. I’ve seen things, heard things. You name it.

Startle me, sure. Scare me? Nah.

Here’s the only time I’ve ever been actually scared:

I lived in an apartment complex about 11 years ago and other than some terrifyingly large wolf spiders, never heard or saw anything paranormal. Then the old dude who lived across from me had a party one weekend and his brother died. Alcohol poisoning. His body laid there for over 12 hours hours because everyone thought he was sleeping it off. After he passed I would occasionally hear some odd sounds, but nothing major. Then one night I was laying in the bed with my toddler waiting for her to go to sleep and something blocked the light that had been shining into the room from the bathroom. I whipped my head up off the pillow and looked toward the door and there was a black mass that was loosely in the shape of a person in the doorway.

My whole body started tingling and I squeezed my eyes shut for a moment because I was terrified and unsure if it was a real person who had broken in or something paranormal. I popped my eyes back open and it was gone so I hopped up out of bed and grabbed my s*****n and a couple shells and took off after it. The only door into the apartment still had both locks locked and the chain was still in place. Windows were closed and locked. I checked under every bed and inside all the closets and didn’t find anything.

I heard noises again after that but never saw anything again. I moved a couple of months later when my lease was up.

So this happened I think 15 or so years ago when my grand father passed away. In my culture the d**d are cremated and there are elaborate ceremonies performed. The body carried by people while chanting the name of a Hindu god, Ram after it has been cleaned, clothed and some ceremonial colours put on it.

I was never very close to my grandfather. I barely remember ever having much to talk with him but my parents say I used to talk to him a lot as a child. Anyway, when he died I didn't really know much about him other than that he was the patriarch of the family and everybody respected him.

I was barely 10 years old then and was supposed to stay at an aunt's house. Sneaky that I was, I managed to follow my mother when she left for my grandfather's house, unaware that I was a few steps behind her.

Anyway, the ceremony starts. There's a lot of crying and soon four people including my father, my uncles and someone I cannot now remember carry the body on top of a structure made of bamboo and wood. They chant throughout the way, nobody noticed that I was following them.

They reach the cemetery. There's a lot of crying and I got bored standing at a distance. It's almost dusk and sit, weirdly, on a nearby platform. I would later come to know that it is sort of a memorial for the deceased. Sometime between all this is happening I fall asleep. Hours go by and when I wake up there is no one, just the last flames burning through pieces of wood.

I panic. I look around to see if there's anyone but there's no one. I start running towards the pyre hoping perhaps some of my relatives might spot me by the fire and get hold of me. Again, no one. I start crying. I look around to see if I can find my way to the street. Cemetery was on the outskirts of the town and it was huge to my tiny mind. Rows after rows of those memorials I mentioned earlier. It's almost dark and I can hear animals howling at a distance.

While all this is happening I have a creepy feeling that I am being watched. It sends a shiver down my spine and to this I don't remember ever being so s**t scared. It was such a dark and nauseating feeling, a sense of impeding doom. I cry louder and start running. Little did I know that I was running deeper into the cemetery, farther from the road that would take me home.

I reach the edge of the open ground and catch my breath near the tree line. I can hear faint voices coming from beyond the silhouette of the trees in front of me. Perhaps someone might be returning after gathering wood from there. I am again hit with this nauseating feeling and it's stronger now. To top it all, every time I walk or run it felt like I could hear footsteps. Like someone right behind me. I turned around several times yet found no one. I was so afraid at that point that I thought I might d*e. I took a leap of faith and ran towards the trees.

The sound of footsteps behind me grew louder and it seemed like whoever it was near, almost at arm's length. Like they could just reach out and catch hold of me. I am audibly sobbing and shouting for help. There's barely any light but I remember hearing people in the distance.

Suddenly, I'm in a clearing and see there's a community pond with a bathing area. I can see some people in my family and I ran towards. No matter how loud I tried to cry there was no sound coming out of my mouth. Finally, an aunt saw me and ran towards me. The last thing I remember before fainting is a hand on my shoulder and my body almost freezing on the spot.

I was sick for a week after that. Had nightmares for years and in general stopped going to my grandfather's house or even the town. To this day I find it difficult sleeping in the dark and sometimes wake up with a cold sweat and a creepy feeling on my shoulder like someone was holding on to me.

My first house was built in 1913. After moving in, I knew pretty much right away that I wasn't "alone" because, out of the corner of my eye, I would always see "movement" in the mirror of the built-in china cabinet. I also smoked back then and came out of the bedroom one morning to find the ashtray flipped off the end table onto the floor. Lots of little things kept happening over the years, but I never felt threatened or scared. We - meaning the ghosts/spirits and I - coexisted in the house with no problems.

My BF moved in, and after a few years, we got married. I'd talk about these things & he'd just look at me, never saying too much about any of it. He traveled quite a bit for work, so I was home alone a lot. One night, I was on my computer, listening to music & playing games. Plain as day, I was tapped from behind on the right shoulder three times. I screamed and jumped up, turned around, and nothing/no one was there. Scared the c**p outta me.

I told my (now) husband about it, and then he started opening up about the shadows he'd see moving around in my office. He talked about the footsteps he'd hear in the house when he was alone. The tapping on my shoulder happened one other time after that. When we were moving out of the house and it was pretty much empty, I was there alone cleaning & I heard the footsteps he talked about.

Whatever or whoever was there started to feel more menacing towards the end of our time there. I loved the house but was pretty glad when we left.

Been looking forward to a post like this to share mine. I actually like reading people's experiences more than trying to glean something from blurry security footage.

So one of my closest friends growing up lived in a house that was, beyond a reasonable doubt, haunted af. The house was definitely somewhere around a century old, or at least now it is, and our town was situated in a very woodsy suburb. He and every member of his family had experiences there. Several of our friends had their own experiences there, and I had my own too. Honestly, it would be impossible to try and condense it down into one experience and I believe it's worth sharing the accounts I can remember. I'll start with the least scary one, which was thankfully my own, and then move to the ones worth telling.

During high school, my parents went on a vacation, and for a few days I stayed at this particular house of my friend, let's call him Paul. I stayed in Paul's room in a sleeping bag on the floor while he slept in his bed. One morning, I woke up to someone whispering in my ear--like directly into my ear-- "(my name), you need to leave. Now." It did not say this super maliciously, almost more of a warning. It definitely woke me up though, and immediately I'm thinking Paul was f*****g with me as he frequently did, but I turned around to my right, where he was sleeping, and realized he was completely out. I said "what?" to him thinking he was joking around and he didn't wake up. He was definitely asleep. It was quiet and still too early for even Paul's parents to be up. Then it hit me, as it still hits me today—I heard the whisper in my left ear, and Paul was on my right side...

Paul had other experiences in that same room, a few I can remember off the top of my head. For a time, he told me he suffered from sleep paralysis on a consistent basis. He would see demons in his room and would be unable to move. He told me that, VERY frequently in his sleep, the standing fan by his bed would become a demon girl, and he would wake up with a jolt of adrenaline having punched or thrown the fan down to the ground. He told me he would sometimes see someone standing in the closet his bed faced, both asleep and awake. Oddly enough, his sleep paralysis significantly decreased as soon as he moved out of that place.

That floor, the 2nd floor where Paul, his parents, and two of his four sisters slept, was spooky. I remember getting weird feelings up there. One of his sisters claimed to see the ghost of a little boy in their bathroom. His mom once opened the closet in her bedroom to find the same little boy standing in there, looking up at her and asking for his mom. I heard about that one when I was in middle school and it always creeped me out—it's always scarier when the adults see them too.

Before my own experience, I generally thought Paul was just trying to f**k with me when he would tell me about these other experiences. Most of our other friends were the same way, thinking Paul was full of s**t. Even after my own experience, at times I thought I just as easily could have dreamt it up. But then a few of those same friends, some of them complete non-believers beforehand, had their own experiences, and that changed my whole idea of the house.

Once a year, Paul and his family would take a trip and have someone take care of their two dogs. One of our mutual friends came over to do just that one day. When she got there that evening to feed the dogs, the house was dark and empty. For some context, the dogs were being fed near the kitchen, and adjacent to the kitchen was the dining room, which led further away into the entry way and after that, a small living room. Well, not long after feeding the dogs, she heard a bloodcurdling scream—a g*****n *shriek*— coming from that living room, like someone was inside with her. She booked it outside with the dogs, checked for intruders, and saw no one was there. I'm pretty sure after that she called Paul, told him what happened, and he laughed and said 'yeah s**t like that happens sometimes'.

A couple years later, one of the bigger doubters in our group, who thought ALL of us were full of s**t, had his own experience. Paul hosted a fair amount of parties back then, and usually we would use his basement to avoid any sort of noise complaints. So all of us are in the basement having a good time, and this particular friend of ours decides to run up and grab another drink from upstairs. Mind you, this friend is not the kind of guy to get completely f****d up, like he'll only ever have a beer or two at most. So for all intents and purposes, he's sober. He goes up and the ground floor was completely empty as everyone is in the basement. There was a porch directly outside the dining room/entryway/living room, and it extended longways across the back of the house. As our friend was walking into the dining room to grab a beer off the table, he sees a tall, grim looking woman standing on the porch outside, looking through the window directly at him. He knows something is wrong because she's sort of featureless and also standing outside, by herself, looking inside. He takes his eyes off her one moment, looks back and she's gone. A few days later, he tells Paul what happened, and Paul tells him how he and his siblings have seen that same woman before. Our friend becomes a believer.

The basement was creepy as hell, but I can only think of one thing that ever happened down there. It was more of a storage cellar than anything; we still used it for parties and just generally hanging out, but it was so cluttered with random s**t that whole areas of the room were completely cut off. At some point in college, one summer when I was back home, Paul and his family were doing the annual Throw-Old-S**t-Away Fest and he openly invited some friends to come help. I came one day, and when I got there Paul's dad nonchalantly told me "you get to see the secret room!" Turns out that in the far corner of the basement, behind a bunch of clutter, was a little storage closet nobody, besides maybe Paul's parents, knew about. We investigated it that day, and in it we found a bunch of random, old s**t. I can't remember everything exactly, I don't even know if Paul's family knew what this stuff was, but among all of it, I specifically remember finding this very old-fashioned, vintage music box. You know, like the one in The Conjuring with the dancing ballerina. That kind of thing. We decided it was creepy and didn't want anything to do with it and left it in that closet...Well on a different day, when I thankfully was not there, Paul and another friend were cleaning out the basement when suddenly that same music box started playing by itself, from behind the door of the closet. They were alone and had not been in that closet all day. They bolted up the stairs.

At the top of the house there were two small bedrooms, both belonging to Paul's older sisters. This is the last one I will share as it's the story that's stuck with me the longest. The second oldest sister once had a vivid and intense dream in which she herself was being exorcised. A demon was being forced out of her as a group of priests were standing over her convulsing body, shouting verse at her, and she remembered it just being crazy intense. After enduring this for some time, she suddenly jolts herself awake and yells, and at that precise moment a rosary she kept hanging on her wall flies from its place, crashes to the floor and shatters into a bunch of pieces. Completely on its own. She was covered in sweat and completely terrified. No one else was in the room.

Yeah, that place was f*****g haunted.

My family and I went to a vacation home in Laguna CA area around 2012. It was bult on a sort of incline in a big hill, so my room was sort of underground. If you can visualize this, imagine the small window in my bathroom aligning with the top soil of the front yard. I had my own room for the duration of the week. It was our first time as a family having a vacation rental and naturally all of my siblings and I would stay up late and scare the s**t out of eachother. Next to the Master bedroom where my parents slept, there was a locked room, I don't think my parents had the key to it. I've mind mapped it out in my head dozens of times and it was right above my room that was downstairs. The night before my parents, younger brother and I left, my older sibs and their family left earlier in the day. It was a big a*s house and dark as f**k. My younger brother roomed with me, and around the early hours of the morning I woke up out of nowhere. I lay there for a second and heard a big thud above me. It seriously sounded like someone dropped a stack of of dictionaries of something, something heavy but not SUPER heavy; idk. It happened again and then my brother woke up and of coursed asked me "what the f**k was that". We both were laying there with pits in our stomachs because we were constantly making up b******t all week lol. My brother finally just says " I'm calling Dad" . He tries to call him but it just went straight to voicemail. I'll never forget seeing my brothers hand trembling when he was dialing. Finally our Dad comes down and asks why my brother wasn't talking when he picked the phone up. So I'm just gonna blame that part on the fact that my room was sort of underground and the reception was probably weird. We tell him what we heard and he sort of brushed it off, no big deal. So its like five thirty in the morning and ours bags are f****n packed and we are sitting on the couch like ALRIGHT WE'RE READY TO F*****G LEAVE. Of course our older siblings don't believe us, don't care! IT HAPPEND MAN.

When I was a kid I’d go stay with my parents at their apartment and one night we saw a really bright and tiny light rush through the living room. Doesn’t seem like much but hang on…

Another thing that happened was that my dad said he woke up in the middle of the night once and saw the bedroom door handle just twisting randomly with a shadow underneath the door. Mother was in the same room of course and they were the only ones there at the time.

They also both mentioned one time that while in the living room they heard something from the kitchen that sounded like all the cabinet doors just randomly slammed but when they went in there nothing was out of place.

Another time they were both asleep and in the bedroom and they were woken up by a real loud growl that sounded like it was from something right next to them. Mother wouldn’t sleep in their afterwards.

There was this real creepy thing that happened in the bedroom as well. It had a large closet with a shelf at the top and my dad said he kept hearing something in there. When he went to check it out he ended up finding an obituary pamphlet stuck up between the pieces of wood that made up the shelf. Belonged to some lady that had died in the 80’s and this all took place in the 2000’s.

Place was creepy and I’d often times get random feelings of dread. Even now I occasionally have dreams about it and they’re always filled with a feeling of dread.

It wasn't scary more of a really odd experience.

But me and a friend was walking in the woods smoking a joint.
All of a sudden it felt like i got an electric shock trough my body.
It was so "strong" it made me throw my bottle of water i was carrying almost hiting my friend in the head but it went right next to his head (he walked a bit infront of me).
He asked what happened and i told him what i felt, we looked around for things that could have been the reason for givimg an electric shock but found nothing, and then my friend asked me what happend to my face.
My left cheek started to become red, looking like someone had giving me a bitchslap.

After some time finding nothing we walked on, I guess whatever it was didn't like weed.

Another weird thing i've experienced is (it has only hsppened 3 times the 8 years i've had my dog).
But when i have been visiting my parents and slept over in my old room i had as s teen, my dog has on 3 different occasions woke up from nowhere, positioned herself over me (put her chest and front legs over my chest) and looked up at the corner of the room (same corner each time) and started growling like something was there.
I then calmed her down and after like 5 minutes she stands up curls up next to me like a ball and fall back to sleep.

    Again, nothing scary just odd.

Years ago, I’d say maybe 1995ish, some friends and myself went to see Ed and Lorraine Warren in CT for one of their October shows with videos, pics, q&a, always a fun night, had seen them numerous times. They had video of the white lady of union cemetery that Ed had captured, it looked pretty crazy. So the day before Halloween, about ten of us went to union, loaded our film once we got there and were ready to explore. Didn’t see anything too out of the ordinary but did hear a ton of strange noises around the cemetery and church which was a little scary to be honest. Took a ton of pics of the grave stones, church, we had a few of us hold hands to make a circle on the church steps in front and called for spirits if there were any.

About a month later, one of my friends finally got the pictures back and we were all pretty stunned with what we caught. The pic of us holding hands at the church had a huge yellow orb in the middle of us, tons of orbs at the cemetery/grave stones, and the freakiest of all was someone took a picture of the church, there was no one inside when we were there, in the picture was a side view of a window with an old man inside, wearing a hat, like legit in the pic, it was very strange. Unfortunately, I’m not really in contact with any of the people I went with, but I’d sure love to see those pictures again.

Id come home and both the bathrms had been rearranged, towels folded different, trash cans on toilets, things on the sink in the tub and things in the tub on the sink. It was time to go.

I’ve always had insomnia, always believed in ghosts and was pretty used to the commotion they’d make. But one night I just felt unreasonably scared so I went to go sleep with my sibling. I fell asleep next to them and woke up because light was coming in their room (they sleep in the PITCH ASS black).
I see the bathroom light is on but my sibling was in the room just staring at their bookcase.
So I say to my sibling “hey you left the bathroom light on” but my sibling didn’t move, not thinking anything of it I turn over to try to go back to sleep, but the light was bugging me. So I look over at the bathroom and watch MY SIBLING WALK OUT OF IT!!
They turned the light off and now we’re back in the pitch black.
I still to this day don’t know what that was, where it went when the light turned off, and why it looked exactly like my sibling.

It launched several feet across the kitchen. The freezer had a slight slant towards the back to prevent things from sliding out when open. So it couldn’t have fallen out. Even if it did, it wouldn’t have launched. I saw it happen. It was wild.

I never liked the winter. I grew up with the story of the creature that prowls the winter. I had protocol for it. Well, in 2021 I traveled to Wisconsin. In January. It was for school. My dorm was stationed in the heavily wooded area of the campus, and it led to more. The snow was thick. And getting used to air travel was a challenge. I woke wicked early and despite myself, I went to the convenience store nearby. It was post blizzard. The trip at first was quiet. But as I walked out,it started.

The air went silent. Not the silent from a previous blizzard, but the silence that rattled my very bones. I kept moving, my earbuds now off. I hoped that it was just a coyote, but the hope was killed. The smell was the culprit.
Death, and rot. I kept even pace. Because running was a death sentence. Then the whistle, and it began to call in my husband’s voice. I felt my knees start shaking and wanting to buckle. This was it. I was going to die; they were going to find me mangled and shredded.

But then…a shriek sounded into the night. The calls and whistles stopped. The reason? A barn owl, a decent sized one, flew at break neck speed at me. I almost hit the ground. But, it flew behind me, and its shrill shrieks and screams sounded out. I barely got away. The owl survived. A few feathers ripped out and some scratches, but it still ushered me back.
He stayed at the tree near my dorm. But the monster stayed around.

When I was a child, I was in my cousin's apartment, and we were going down to the garage in the elevator because our grandmother was going to pick us up to go to the mall. The elevator stopped between the ground floor and the garage floor, leaving a small opening that allowed us to see the garage floor. We could have gone through the opening, but we called the doorman to ask if it was safe, and he told us to wait because he was already on his way.

While we were waiting for the doorman, our grandmother appeared. We could only see her legs and feet through the opening; she was wearing brown pants and ballet flats, clothes that our grandmother would normally wear. She started saying that everything was fine, not to worry, that the doorman was coming. She called out our names, and my cousin and I responded the same way because we were hearing and seeing the same thing.

Suddenly, she started walking away, and a few minutes later the doorman arrived and said we could go through the opening, which we did. We got to the garage, but our grandmother wasn't there. We looked at each other, confused, and a few minutes later our grandmother arrived by car, wearing different clothes. She noticed we looked visibly scared and asked what was wrong, so we explained. At the time, our whole family knew the story, but nobody talks about it anymore.

I spent some time thinking it might be a false memory, but a recent Christmas I talked to my cousin about it, and he remembers that day exactly too. I believe that this clone of our grandmother was a guardian angel. (I'm Brazilian, I translated this using Google Translate)

Hello! My name is Karissa & this is one of the most memorable paranormal experience I’ve had.
To set the scene it was 2003, I was 7 at the time, my sister was 10 & my brother 5. My parents were heavily involved with the Christian church as my father had just begun pastoring. They would leave my sister in charge of us at home occasionally when they didn't feel like taking us to meeting after meeting.
On this particular day my brother was spending time at my grandparents house so it was just my sister and I at home. We were excited to have the TV to ourselves so we got snacks ready, sat on the floor and put on a movie.
During this I remember feeling like something was watching us, as we were watching the movie I had a strong urge to turn around. Both My sister and I without communicating turned around at the same time, what we saw behind us was my brother laying on the couch.
He then proceeded to smile however his smile soon become eerie and unnatural, his teeth turning sharp and the ends of his smile reaching his eyes!
He literally resembled the Cheshire cat from Alice in wonderland, I turned back around to process what I had just seen, at first I was just really confused and alarmed but then I remembered my brother wasn't home and terror hit me.

I looked at my sister who was staring at me with utter fear in her eyes, I asked if she saw what I did and she nodded yes. It took all the courage and strength I had to get up and run to our parents room. We hid there until my parents came back and never mentioned it to them, I'll never forget that smile. I've had many experiences since then but this one by far is still the creepiest.

As I soaped my hands, the tap opposite me started running for a few seconds. Stopped. It skipped one basin, the the following tap started running for a few seconds. Stopped. Skipped the next basin and the following tap started running. 'It' followed this pattern until I saw that 'it' was coming closer to my basin. I had no wish to see if it would skip My basin. I had heard their door open and shut twice thinking it was one of the boys going to the bathroom, but I never heard the footsteps go into the bathroom.

I was walking down main street and ended up at Veterans memorial park, It was dark, windy, and about 9:30 at night. Right behind the subway I heard what sounded like a whining, or a keening like a doggy was hurt or a baby was crying. I stopped, frozen and wondering what in the holler was this? My spirit guides told me that it was a spirit call. It stops I quickly walk away, before I knew it there was an Elf, right beside me. I about died of a heart attack. Took me awhile to return there.

Lid of wastebasket in our kitchen started swinging back and forth. My son and I both saw it. Scary.

Whenever i lived at my last apartment, i was sitting watching my show in the dark w my three year old daughter sleeping next to me. Out of no where she shoots straight up into a upright position & says “mommy there is a man at the door”. I proceed to lay her back down and get her back to sleep. The next morning i ask her about her “dream”/moment from the previous night. She tells me she does and proceeds to say that the man had long pointy ears, long pointy toes & made the sound that the grudge makes. She also said that this man was taller than me or her dad. A couple nights later my man says around 2 am whenever i was at work, he heard knocking on our front door. The knocks came in sets of three , each set had three slow knocks to it. Creepiest lineup of events we had living there.

One time I watched a toy of mine levitate and get thrown several feet completely off my table in front of me.
In the same apartment, I felt a cool breeze and something move my hair while I was standing in the kitchen. When I turned around nothing was there, but as I tried to leave the kitchen my legs were caught as if I was trying to wade through cool knee-deep goop. I kept pushing through til I reached the edge of the room and the heavy weight suddenly disappeared and I fell forward
