On March 24, 1860 (or March 3 on the old Chinese calendar) a daring assassination took place of a high-ranking Shogun official right in front of the Shogun’s castle. 18 samurai ambushed 60 samurai guards in an unseasonable snow storm and ended up rocking the country to its core.
