Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
It’s the day everything turns green and everyone becomes Irish (Murphy MacManus’ words) in celebration of the foremost patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick.
But besides paying respects to the saint in church or in a local pub, there’s also another way of celebrating and that is with memes.
The internet has been hard at work with St. Patrick’s day memes this time around, and Bored Panda invites you to check out the best of the best memes floating around on the internet. Vote and comment on the submissions you’d raise a green toast to, and why not also share your thoughts in the comment section below!

That's exactly what they're like. I have ancestors who came from Ireland...almost 300 years ago. That doesn't make me Irish.
Who really cares of people want to taut their teeny fraction of being Irish. I'm not Irish, (that I know of) and don't pretend to be. And how do you know your relatives didn't keep marrying into Irish families in those 300 years?
Load More Replies...Er Irish doesn't have a 'skin tone'
Load More Replies...*me, American, being over 90% British/Irish* haha (yes I know no one cares about my heredity but I thought it would be kinda funny idk*
I actually did recently find out my mom is like 13% Irish of AncestryDNA. Because in a revelation that surprised exactly nobody, our lineage can basically be summed up as 'the white part of Europe'. All that means to me is that from now on, every time I get a sunburn I won't be only cursing my Scottish ancestors.
I don't know anyone Irish who celebrated St Paddy's Day and I have a LOT of Irish family.
I've never really thought about how wild it is that there's a prawn Muppet before
want to learn how I changed my diet 3 times in 1 week it all started when.......
And guys, I started watching Breaking Bad after I come home from doing Cross Fit....
Ok, but the only time I've seen clothes with that written on them was in gift shops making money of tourists. Is it like common in the US?
Everyone American thinking they're Irish because 8 generations ago some relative visited there
That's kind of a weird shirt anyways. Yup, I'll just change to Irish!
its obviously a bad photoshop. look at the second picture. you can see the bottom of the word/s that are actually on it.
Load More Replies...My tree is STILL up! No decorations, but the colored lights look cool as hell while I'm watching TV.
Well, if it's artificial or a potted one. Otherwise that sucker's brown!
Load More Replies..."Real Irish don't even celebrate St Patrick's Day" Says who?! Oh wow, I guess the massive St Patrick's Day event with music, costumes and amusement rides in the main street of my Irish home town in actual Ireland that I walked through an hour ago doesn't exist then. :/
Leprechauns playing tricks on your mind for shits and giggles because Thier all a bunch of little pricks nothing at all like what you see in the lucky charms commercials
Load More Replies...My U.S. state had a large Irish immigrant population (I mean proportionately) so there's a lot of Irish Heritage stuff and a Huge St Patrick's day celebration in one of the smaller cities. About 40k people live there and around 30k people show up to celebrate. It's madness. Im waaay too old to be day drunk out in 20F weather but I do loved corned beef and cabbage or pasties.
True native Irishmen don't celebrate st Patrick's day... There are no snakes native to Ireland... So the snakes he drove out where the pagans. St Patrick murdered pagans. The more you know
I am literally so confused, the only slightly similar thing I can think of is Irish people making fun of Americans being generally cringe in saying they're Irish (not me, mostly on tiktok), can someone explain please??? I mean yeah, we have parades and s**t
Quite a lot of Americans are descendant from Irish emigrants, many people left Ireland to go to America in the potato famine. However these people are mostly descendants and I'm not really sure that once it's that far back you can call yourself Irish if it was many generations ago. St. Patricks Day is basically the only thing most Americans know about Ireland the country or Irish culture. Hope that helped!🇮🇪
Load More Replies...Back in elementary school, our teacher said a leprechaun came and we went into the bathroom (attached to the room cause we're just a bunch of wee ones) and i see the toilet's green and like any good lass I flush the toilet since it had been used. Teacher took me from green to red, called mama and sent to the principal's where I got sent home. Mama immediately gave the school s**t for it.
Wow, massive over reaction on the schools part. Honestly, what do they expect from small children?! Nice one Mama.
Load More Replies...If someone say I am not wearing any green. I reply with "I am wearing green but showing you would be inappropriate."
I can't drink anymore, says everybody, so today was my 11th year not hungover on the 18th of March.
Phew, glad about that! Met someone who actually thought it was possible to reach the end of a rainbow, despite the fact that somehow it kept moving...
Load More Replies...Indeed. St Patrick was always linked with blue... Yet Ireland is called the Emerald Isle and a different country (that would be the US) linked the colour green to St P and that, sadly, was that.
Load More Replies...St Patrick was a christian missionary, it's thought the snakes were symbolic of paganism disappearing as the people were converted to christianity.
Seriously??? Must really suck having no sense of humour.
Load More Replies...yup. thats the joke. the tired old joke thats recycled over and over for every bored housewife with no sense of humor..... hahaha i only said one glass, but my wine glass is huge omg lol....

The Irish spelling of Patrick is Pádraig. That's where Paddy comes from.

Load More Replies...Hmmmm, making fun of the 17th of March and it's my birthday too. I'm off, gotta have me some cake ;). .........EDIT: Aw thanks to everybody here!
Some call it Paddy's day for short but absolutely nobody in Ireland calls it "St. Patty's".
Reading this, I came to the unfortunate conclusion Ireland is known for green beer and kiss me I'm Irish shirts, which I've never seen apart from gift shops. Honeslty, I didn't know we were AS associated with alcohol XD
Just as I read this, the episode of a show I was watching was set on St Patrick's day! I love coincidences!
A lot of Americans drink on every holiday, like St. Patrick's Day and Cinco De Mayo, even if they are not Irish, Irish Catholic or even Mexican. Any excuse to be a raging alcoholic in public.
i didnt realize what day it was before i got to school and i wasnt wearing any green- i had to legit write "HELLO IM GREEN" on my hand in green sharpie.
