1000 People Were Asked To Recognize These Pop Culture Logos, And The Results Are Worse Than Expected
Would you be able to recognize the logo of the paper company in Scranton used in the TV show The Office? Or the symbols of The Hogwarts Houses? If you said yes, you might be surprised to find yourself in a minority as the survey conducted by signs.com shows that these are some of the least recognized logos in today's pop culture. But what are the most famous logos?
The custom signage company has already impressed us a month ago (see the post here) when they announced the results of a social experiment on the recognizability of popular logos. This time they turned to the media, logos of films, TV, and video games and asked over 1000 participants of different age groups to find out which popular culture imagery is the most memorable.
"We're visual creatures," states the company and reminds us that we remember 80 percent of what we see, 20 percent of what we read, and only 10 percent of what we hear. That is why it is important to create cool logos and memorable images in order to make a recognizable story.
We are positive that you will be able to recognize the most popular company logos and signs, but be sure to take time and test out your knowledge when it comes to the lesser-known logos too, maybe you'll do better than the majority. Let us know how well did you do in the comments.

Ok I want to know who 24% of the people thought and spider and WW symbol were for, I mean even if you aren't a superhero fan you know who Spiderman and Wonder Woman are.
Swings and roundabouts rudie, go back a fair few years and the shoe is on the other foot, that said i was always a Marvel guy, they just seemed more ethnically inclined in their tales, mutants black, mex, chin,j*p,etc we all felt left out in the 80-90's and marvel had a way of making us all feel apart of something, bit like the old trek to a certain extent
Actually it makes complete sense. These weren't just handed out to die hard fans of the series. A badger in a badge would be more recognisable because there aren't many coats of arms with badgers on them. Whereas the lion is used in real life coats arms and many many fictional stories. Think about it.. Game of Thrones, The Lion the witch and the wardrobe.. royal families from fictional stories.. it's a common symbol.
Load More Replies...Only 12% recognition for MoM symbol....clearly they are surveying Muggles.
How do people recognize the Deathly Hallows and not any of the house symbols? This is a symbol from the last book / last 2 movies only. How are there twice as many people who recognize it than who recognize the Gryffindor symbol??
In the context of Harry Potter, the house symbols are unmistakable. But if you are given a bunch of symbols from TV shows, movies, and video games, it would be harder to distinguish some animals inside a shield. The Deathly Hallows is a very popular symbol in modern culture, and it is much more unique and identifiable.
Load More Replies...Ironically Ravenclaw is the lowest out of all the houses... And Hufflepuff is highest!
I'm calling shenaigans on the house crests there is no way that the top 2 are not Gryffindor and Slytherin!!!
Only 12% on Ministry of Magic!? The name's right there in the logo!
Average Joe's?!? I saw that movie and there is no way 74% of people know that logo.
Interestingly, the Harry Potter symbols had different numbers under them - lower - in the Harry Potter post. Was it a different group of people surveyed? Or were people shown the symbol twice and a rather small percentage recognized it from earlier? Or just a mistake by the infographic makers?
Shenanigans again no way Harry Potter is less identifiable then what ever the helpl that is from Dodgeball unless they interviewed "Goober The Lowest Common Denominator"!!
I would have thought house Stark would be the more recognized. I mean we have only been seeing that sigil for seven seasons by now.
I don't watch GOT, so I have no idea what this is about... but... I like how the percentage is reflected by the length of the banners.
Lol the House of Lannister stole my province's flag design! That's the red lion from the Nova Scotia flag! My mind is blown haha, had to share....
Poor House Tyrell! I believe their house sigil was lost, at least in the TV series, because the amount of times that they spent mingling with the Lannisters and Baratheons, and I don't think they really show them traveling with there House banners or even wearing there Sigil with there clothes like all the other houses.
For those who read the books their sigil is obvious. Highgarden.
Load More Replies...Thought House Bolton would have had higher recognition - so gruesome
How can people NOT recognize the triforce? If you mention "The Legend of Zelda" (or anything like that) to me, the first thing I think of is the triforce. It's so iconic!
I don't recognise any of these, as I don't play video games and never have. I don't see the problem.
Load More Replies...I wonder how high is the chance that people who recognized the lambda as a symbol from the game Half-Life got mixed up with people who simply knew that lambda is a symbol used for half-life but had no clue there's a game called that.
I just want to point out its the wolf medallion, there's more than one school of witcher
It's interesting how people born in the different decades recognize such different things from the others. Their pop culture intake has been lessened or expanded depending on when they were born.
Isn't this just rewording the first question with Comic substituted for Superhero?
anyone wanna try to list em all? i know - supernatural, mr.robot, breaking bad, hoose arryn from GoT, office, str trek, i think weyland corp from alien series, and i think LOst. pokemon? simpsons, trandformers.
Seriously? The star fleet sign is LOW?? Actually, nevermind. I just remembered that 3 days a go girls in my class were adamant that Star Trek copied the Vulcan emoji symbol. (🖖) I had to explain that Star Trek is 50 years old.
in relation to the rest of the hour procrastinating on this website :/ fml.
Load More Replies...I guess majority of the people surveyed are fans of Simpsons. Transformers over Krusty burgers?
Oh, that was supposed to be Heisenberg? I wouldn't have guessed. AND I don't remember it ever being used on the show I've seen 3 times...
I want to know how many people asked why the hell Assassins Creed wasn't included.
Can someone tell me what's the one above the Halo logo from please?
It's from Half-Life 2, it's the Combine "clamp" insignia seen on their propaganda posters in and around City 17.
Load More Replies...Someone, please help. The golden one above Nuka Cola - Where is it from?!
I really only recognized 8. I literally have no clue about the other ones lol
I also recognised 8, but that’s 50%, which is more than any of the age groups! (I was born in 1961)
Load More Replies..."The Results Are Worse Than Expected"... worse than expected for whom, exactly? An adolescent without anything to do but live eat and breath TV and movies? I'm sure recognition would be higher among 12 year olds. As you grow up and actually develop interests beyond passive consumption of entertainment, this won't surprise you so much.
This is so not true. If you would ask random people on the street, the results would be much worse (if it can really be considers bad, if someone doesn't know all that stuff).
Load More Replies...I don't know most of those because i'm not into superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy or popular TV. And I'm pretty pleased about that.
I'm curious about the parameters of this little experiment. "Different age groups" is very vague and there are definitely things on here that would be specific to certain age ranges while others outside those ages would be less inclined to recognize the logos. And, even still, I find it incredibly difficult to believe that even non-comic fans wouldn't recognize spider-man and wonder woman, especially less than the punisher? Not to mention most of these just had major box office films that it's virtually impossible to avoid seeing some form of advertising for. I'd like to know the specific age groups, regional locations, job/career, and general income range of those quizzed rather than a generic "1000 people." Does anyone know of a more legit study regarding marketing/pop culture logo recognition out there?
That's an interesting survey but symbols seem to be picked at random tbh.
