Global creative studio Fine Acts teamed up with UAE-based Tunisian artist and creative director Moez Achour for a public art stunt to raise awareness of the devastating effects of climate change.

For Under Your Seat, life vests were installed under the seats of a MICHELIN Green Starred restaurant in Dubai, together with a mock safety card in the menu, telling people what to do in case of a severe flooding. The interactive stunt recorded people’s reactions.

Extreme weather, rising seas, and damaged ecosystems threaten the safety and livelihoods of billions. Currently, an estimated 1.81 billion people, or 23% of the world population, face significant flood risk. Over a billion climate refugees are expected globally by 2050

“We are all responsible. And it is also our responsibility to change, and to help make a change – be it by creating an art installation, or by talking to a friend… Any action matters,” says Moez.

The initiative is part of a wider art campaign by Fine Acts, featuring three prominent Middle Eastern artists that created a series of artworks that tackle climate change – from water scarcity and rising sea levels to pollution and environmental destruction – and trigger climate action.

“There is indeed a ‘life vest’ under our seat – and it is climate action. As the world gets hotter, floods, fires, droughts, pollution and crop failures will become more severe and disrupt life as we know it. However – it is not too late, and what governments, companies, industries, organizations and citizens do at this stage, truly matters,” say Fine Acts.

Unprecedentedly, all of the art installations are made replicable under an open license so that movements and collectives around the world can recreate them in their cities.
