I Woke Up After A Night Of Freezing Rain To Find The Whole City Of Bucharest, Romania, Frozen And Damaged
After a night of freezing rain, I woke up on a crazy and frosty Saturday with the whole city frozen and damaged.
This is a very unusual weather event here so it was really a challenge to walk on the streets without ice skates and hoping that no branch will fall on you.
Many cars were unlucky as they were damaged by branches or even the whole trees that fell on them.
The roads were also full of trees, branches, and ice, and some of the power cables broke under heavy ice which left many trams unable to function.
At night the view was kind of apocalyptic but also interesting; like an icy, end of the world movie. So I took a walk through my neighborhood looking for some nice shots.

That's what i thought too:)), you should have heard the noise of the branches in the wind.

These pictures are absolutely stunning, and I hope you are safe and dry
We had this happen a few years back. Came out to my car to find a shell of ice all around the front end of it because of the continuous frozen spray coming from the wind. It was thick enough for us to pull the shell off the front and set it on the lawn as a single piece. It sat there for 3 days before the weather warmed up and melted it. The scariest thing was that same thick ice was on the branches of the trees. Branches that snapped off and fell some 30-40 feet to the ground. My husband worked in a building surrounded by these trees. I made him work for home for those 3 days.
I went through an ice storm in Tennessee and the sounds were terrifying as well as the arcing of the transformers and power lines just surreal and yes these photos really do bring back those sights and sounds. Well Done.
This happened once where I live. It is unimaginably beautiful. But it's also very dangerous. Everything, including the streets are coated with sheets of ice. Some of the tree limbs are so heavy that they break off, sometimes hitting cars, people or roofs of houses. Visually magical though.
Pretty, but terrifying! I’d stay inside and snuggle up with some blankets instead of going out into that. Walking on ice is something that scares the living bleeps out of me. Very beautiful pictures, but with a hint of creeps. Thank you for gracing us with these! 10/10
Great pictures. Had that happening pretty much every winter for the last few years(not this one so far though) here, it's so...weird. It looks absolutely magical, surreal, mysterious...but it's just so bad for everything, from cars to trees.
I hope he wore those metal grip things on his boots or something like, all that ice looks treacherous as hell. As evidenced by no one else being out there. But fantastic photos, I've never known that kind of cold, thank goodness!
Strangely beautiful, like a broken stained glass world. Gorgeous and eerie.
Wish it had all fallen on Romania's modern version of Dracula, Nadia Comaneci. That woman ruined many childhoods.
We had the freezing rain here in Yorkshire England, you couldn't even walk on the grass, we needed to go out shopping that day, but had to stay home, quite scary in a way, I've not seen it since the 60's.
I was there and I witnessed it with my own eyes🙂 I found it very beautiful! Especially wild rose berries and Autumn orange leaves covered with ice.
Freezing rain is great for photographers but awful for everyone else. I am from Finland and I have experienced freezing rain couple of times but that did not cause any beautiful 'ice sculptures of the nature'. It was just really annoying because both times I was a passenger in a car. Me and the driver had to constantly stop to clean the car windows from ice. But I really wish that one day I could see a freezing rain that makes all places very beautiful. :)
It felt like the Apocalypse was upon us when I got out of the house yesterday. And the sound of the wind blowing on the frozen trees is not something I will soon forget.
Really awesome pictures! Even if it's a little frightening with all those climate changes. Here in Quebec, we had a major episode with that in 1998. Will alway remember...
I knew it was bad in Romania but didn't imagine this. Stay safe, sau Ramaneti in Siguranta!
Ice storms are no joke. They can cause severe damage ranging from cars, electrical lines, to damage on buildings. However, they do result in beautiful pictures.
That's kind of terrifying. Maybe because it reminded me of the movie "The Day After Tomorrow". Anyway, your pictures are incredible.
