I Compared Pictures Taken In The Same Locations 10 Years Apart (16 Pics)
My name is Guido Gutierrez Ruiz and I am a traveler and photographer from Toronto, Canada based in Madrid, Spain.
This past winter, I was going through the first photos that I posted on my Instagram, and seeing so many spots of Toronto, I decided it would be a cool project to compare how much (or little) has changed since I took these photos.
As you can see in the pictures below, there are many drastic changes that look completely different but I can assure you the pictures I took this year, 2023, I made sure to be standing in the exact same spot as I did back in 2013.
What do you think of this 10-year project? I encourage you to examine each photo and see not only the big and obvious changes but the small details like windows, signs, sidewalks, etc.
Hope you enjoy the comparisons! You can find more pictures on my Instagram. Enjoy!

Thanks! I tried to not only take the same angle but try and capture the same positions of people :)
Load More Replies...It went from a happy, warm yellow to a depressing gray color. Truly sad.
the sharpness of the camera quality's is the first thing I relay notices minus the color change.
As I was scrolling through my old pictures on Instagram, I was aware of how much the city has changed and thought it would be an interesting idea to see the evolution of places by trying to capture photos with the same format in the same locations. Having a special interest in urban planning, architecture and urban living, it was definitely a fun project for me too.
I will definitely try to continue this project of pictures taken throughout the years of my travels.

The building on the back looks a lot more run-down, the colors aren't as bright anymore, and the last window on the building is covered in overgrown ivy.
That big building in the way back left isn't anywhere near the same....

That's a heck of a change. What d'you suppose they did with the traffic?
Toronto has definitely changed and continues to do so as it is considered to be one of the fastest growing cities in North America as well as being the city with the most cranes. Toronto is quickly losing much of the sky it had and sadly the color it used to breathe. One of the pictures that surprised me the most is the one of the overpass highway. 10 years have passed and the state of the concrete is still very poor and has still not been fixed.

It was definitely fun trying to take pictures of the exact same locations. It was challenging to capture the same essence, though. I wanted to mimic the elements I had in the original pictures. For example, I wanted to recreate some scenes trying to capture the same angle/position of people in the photos.

It’s sad, but there’s a bit of “cherry-picking”. Wait until those trees are in bloom and the second will look much prettier!
I think you missed the elephant, a building bloomed, and not the prettiest one.

Should use plastic coated rebar to prevent iron jacking but probably didn't exist back when this was built.
It definitely will be interesting to see the reactions to this project as I think it's a fun and interesting idea to see the changes a city is constantly going through. Especially for those who know Toronto, or live in any big city, will definitely appreciate these comparisons (for better or worse) that are lived day to day.

I'd say they've spoilt the view but there was no view to spoil. Depressing.
2013 vs. 2023
That building was under construction, so it seems like the final building was supposed to look “cartoony”.

The 2013 picture was taken in february and the 2023 was taken in january
Load More Replies...Aw, I liked the "before" picture of the building. Recent pic looks like it's still under renovation though, maybe they restored it.. just seems like so many cool looking old buildings are being "updated" or replaced with modern boring boxes
It was definetly a sad loss for Toronto. That builing (and store) was there for many many years. Now its all torn down and currently the supertall skyscraper "The One" is buing built which will be Canada's tallest apartment building (338m)
Load More Replies...It was one of the worst Toronto exprienced!

Left sunny photo is more zoomed out. Right cloudy photo shows medium height tower on left side by park is now gone. Replaced by box building. Dreary. Plus so many new additonal buildings can no longer all way to lake/ocean. Sad.

The fun colours are gone. It made the street feel more inviting...my opinion
Definitely. No contest. The older I get the more I completely utterly despise neutral colors......
Load More Replies...2013 artistic photograph with clouds sun different colored buildings seemed more welcoming and cozy. Now feels sterile.

These are all Toronto. Where everyone complains of lack of housing but complains of housing being built.
Could have just said "pictures of constructed buildings in different seasons"
