Not a long time has passed since the last PETA controversy but it seems that the organization is not keen on learning from its past mistakes. Just this April, Bored Panda wrote about their cringe-worthy attempt to stop people from drinking cow’s milk and earlier this year, the organization received huge backlash over their criticism of Steve Irwin. This time, it came under the spotlight for featuring a Pokemon Wooloo in their marketing campaign that’s speaking out against shearing sheep. It is not the first time the infamous animal rights organization has attempted to use videogame characters to push their agenda and to make a controversial statement. This time, PETA’s target is Pokémon Sword and Shield and its new sheep pocket monster Wooloo which was introduced during the most recent Pokémon Direct presentation. Judging from people’s reaction on Twitter, Pokemon fans are definitely not on board with PETA using Wooloo to push their agenda. In addition to this, many were quick to point out that the campaign is not only disgraceful – it is also spreading dangerous misinformation. PETA’s tweet featured Wooloo standing with a sign that says, “I’m not your Wooloo sweater,” suggesting that shearing sheep is animal cruelty. However, the majority of people who have a basic education understand that shearing domesticated sheep is necessary for their health. But who are we to tell PETA what’s right for animals?..

It's a haircut. No one's making them listen to Justin Bieber albums as a form of torture. lol
Yeah, don't they overheat and get hyperthermia due to the excess wool?
Load More Replies...Ok, but to be fair, sheep have been artificially selected for maximum yield. So technically, it's our fault that they need sheering. In their original, wild form, they could sort themselves out just by walking around in bushland.
Yes, but the original wild form of sheep is extinct ... we only have these sheep, and they need sheering. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_domestic_sheep
Load More Replies...Always wondered if PETA Zombies wear leather shoes, or have leather handbags-briefcases? Are the clothes they wear made out of nylon, rayon, etc, because if cotton, then that's KILLING a plant. No, it's plantacide! *snark*
PETA doesn't do anything except take money from people to do ad campaigns. I'm a state wildlife biologist (and yes a hunter) and I have never seen a single member at a conservation seminar where actual scientist speak about programs that actually aide in conservation. They're a joke and a bunch of frauds and they need continually exposed.
Probably not against wool, they just don't have all the marbles that most people do. What started as a noble venture was twisted into the monster it is today. So many people (in PETA) - so few grey cells.
Load More Replies...1. F**k you. 2. My Downvote. 3. PETA IS KILLING ANIMALS WITHOUT THE OWNERS CONSENT. 4. The Muslim countries that the sheep are being sent to slaughter the sheep for population control and to extract the meat so us humans can eat. 5. The wool industry is not being cruel. Sheep f*****g need to be shaved or else they f*****g die of heatstroke. So you don’t want people to protect the sheep from dying. Shame. 6. F**K YOU, YOU B***H AND C**T!
Load More Replies...sheeps wool is literally exactly like a persons hair. it grows back, can cause harm if not cut for some people, it doesn't cause harm to the person with the hair being cut, and more so stfu Peta.
Not in New Zealand, wool is so undervalued that in most cases it COSTS farmers to shear the sheep, they only do it because the sheep of the modern wool would DIE if they were not sheared. Wool is sold to help to offset the cost of keeping the sheep healthy.

What what What?! They kill 81%?! Wtf is even the point of them existing? Vulnerable animal Russian roulette assassins?
They believe it’s wrong for animals to be domesticated so they “rescue” them by killing most of the animals they bring in. F****d up, I know.

Load More Replies...That's only because they were bred that way -- wild sheep shed their coats naturally. Based on past behavior, PETA would have no issue with slaughtering these specially bred sheep so no sheep at all would need shearing.
I think Aunt Messy has confused you with the other person who made this comment.
Load More Replies...Yeah, they aren't an animals rights group. As stated in another comment, they are frauds who do nothing but take money from people who don't know any better and pump it into ad campaigns. I don't think a single member of their leadership has a degree in anything related to animals or conservation.
PETA reminds me of celebrity super fans that love the celebrity so much they end up killing them
What about when people shave their heads? I have seen guys get knicked here and there which does draw a little blood. Same with the sheep. Sheep wiggle, people wiggle. Knicks happen, doubtful its gallons of blood.
Load More Replies...They already went through a whole thing to "release" circus animal cookies on the package....THIS IS WHAT PEOPLES MONEY IS GOING TOWARDS "RELEASING" CARTOON ANIMALS.... while still killing real ones... unfortunately stupid s**t like this is still giving them publicity. Good or bad they are remaining relevant and that is ultimately the goal for a s**t agenda pushing company like them.
I just think they’re just trolling all of us at this point. They release these clueless, outrageous ads, every few months, everybody gives them attention, and then forgets about it, they do it again six months later, while never changing any of their behavior or learning anything.
Load More Replies...They already ran with that. Seriously, they need their heads looking at.

Pokemon writers and designers sound like they’d be an asset to the farming community... xxxx
This is my favorite because it turns there metaphor into a literal sense and attacks them
it’s the most unexpected crossover event and as a sheep farmer who knows nothing about Pokemon I am both now more open minded and 100% HERE FOR IT... all Pokemon fans are welcome to come see our real life woolloos and i’ll have the kettle on and biscuits out!!! xxxx
This is the most wholesome comment I've read all day.
Load More Replies...Don't listen to his lies! Pokémon are as real as Santa and Jesus!

Load More Replies...And the horrible flystrike they can get when they get daggy at the back....what's crueller, giving ur sheep a haircut or letting maggots eat them alive?!
Ok. So I looked up what flystrike was. I SHOULD NOT HAVE LOOKED THAT UP. Excuse me while I go get healthy dose of cute puppies and kittens.
Load More Replies...I believe wild and domesticated sheep are from a different breed hence the production of their wool differ. Like human and ape. Though our DNA almost similar but that small percentage different had made our body hair less than them.
Load More Replies...So, I suppose you don't get haircuts because it would be cruel to your scalp? You, I guess, are a sentient being?
Load More Replies...PETA killed a little girl's dog, got sued, and had to pay the family money. The dog was minding it's own business sitting on the family porch.

So first of all I hate Peta. Now that that's out of the way, I find it rather funny that they are jumping on the Wooloo bandwagon (because the internet collectively is in love with this little sheep) to push their agenda when a few years back they campaigned against the pokemon franchise because it "condones animal fighting rings" or something to that effect. The hypocrisy is astounding. I wish this f*cking group would go away already
Can't use wool, can't use leather, cotton will also be bad at some point because of climate change or plants have feelings or some other nonsense. Oh and synthetic materials will also be evil because, why? Well, they're made from crude oil. Let's all get naked then!!!! ;-)
Hate to be that person, bot cotton, even organic one is already a massive problem. :P "According to WWF, it takes more than 20,000 liters (5,283 gallons) of water to produce just one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of cotton, which roughly equals one T-shirt and a pair of jeans." https://www.triplepundit.com/story/2016/quenching-cottons-thirst-reducing-use-water-cotton-lifecycle/57196

The trailer showed Wooloo in its natural habitat, not any farms or slaughterhouses. The Pokemon website even states that when Wooloo are handled by humans, they are usually unharmed by the shearing process. If PETA won't do their research about official information, then it's a sign. Their message is clear, but they're more focused on getting attention than stopping actual sheep torture. As someone who never wears wool and would NEVER harm an animal if I had the opportunity, I don't need PETA and their cognitive dissonance to ruin what I believe in.
Yeah I'm really excited for the new game, kinda sucks to see there is already Rule 34 of it though...
Load More Replies...PETA at one time had some good ideas, but now they have degenerated into fanatics, redoubling their efforts when they have forgotten their aim.
PETA only ever does harm. Like saying to open opossum pouches if they "look dead"...
