Guy Asks The Internet To Help Identify A Hole That Appeared In His Garden, Probably Wishes He Didn’t
Growing up many of us dreamed to be treasure hunters, or at least to find a box full of fortune in our backyard. Even though most of us didn’t succeed, there is still a small part of us that wishes we might find something peculiar some day.
Well, one man took the Internet to share some pictures of a mysterious hole that he found in the middle of his backyard. After taking a closer look he soon realized there is a layer of bricks inside the hole so he quickly started digging. At first, he couldn’t understand what it is, but then the hole turned out to be an actual 4 feet wide chamber. So, he took some pictures and shared them online asking people, what this mysterious chamber might be? Does it have an interesting story behind it? Maybe, it’s an old teleportation chamber used by witches? Should he be worried? The one thing he found there was a small button, but it didn’t help to answer the main question – what is this chamber?
Soon enough the Internet came to the rescue, but the answer was probably not what he wished it would be. I guess it’s time to move to another mysterious hole because this one is rather… crappy.
Scroll down to find out what was actually hiding in that peculiar hole!

Recently, one man took social media to share a mysterious hole he has found near his house
So, he posted the pictures of his peculiar find asking for help to find out what it is
At first, it seemed to be an ordinary hole but something seemed suspicious
So he started digging and saw an entire layer of bricks
They even found a large stone stopper inside the hole
It soon became an archeological site
“Small metal button found in the hole”
The hole was actually 4 feet wide chamber
“A pipe seemingly going to the chamber from the direction of the house”
After digging for a while they finally reached the bottom of the chamber
“Some items retrieved from the chamber”
So, without hesitation, he posted these images online asking what this mysterious hole might be hiding?
And unfortunately, he received an answer he was probably not expecting…
What do you think it might be? Don’t forget to tell us in the comments!
well, well, well... it's not a well as they usually have water running underneath or through the bottom. I would imagine as it leads from the house, it'll be where all the toilet waste went, ready for collection. You wouldn't want it too close to your house, hence the distance. It'd be a s****y job, but somebody had to do it...
Yes..Usually if it is a well, there would be evidence of something over the pit that was used to bring up water. And a pipe running from the house will not result in water going from a well to the house unless A) the well is a couple of feet above and away from the house or B) there is evidence of a pump system there. I believe they found the holding tank for the crapper.
Load More Replies...I compared pictures of old septic tanks and drywells, and my conclusion is that it is not possible to tell merely from these pictures. It is probably less than 150 years old, though -- definitely not ancient. Also, the person who said that he may get bubonic plague from it is wrong. Yersinia pestis can live in the soil for about a month under ideal conditions, typically only about a day or so.
Could be a cistern. My brother had one in his backyard in Chattanooga. Historical society person came to look at it, said it was a cistern and that they were common in that neighborhood. The whole top caved in one day. It had this little stone decorative thing on top they thought was some old yard art - the only exposed part. 2011-12-10...d878df.jpg
I would stick to "It's a drywell" one. I mean it sounds most acceptable xD But damn I'd freak out finding a thing like that in my yard.
Old outhouse sites are what archaeologists and people with metal detectors look for.
It's called a leech pit. They are used here in Arizona when you build homes in remote areas without city sewer systems. Usually they have layers of pea gravel in them and enzymes are added to devour waste. The rest is handled by seepage. They are very effective if made properly. They get used in place of cesspools.
But they brick the hole? I haven't seen one like that before

Personally I think they would have found more 'things' down a cess pit/septic tank, we had one in our last house. The sides, pipe would probably have looked clogged even if the waste had degraded. Could have been a well/water holding tank, but a lot older than 1888 and the hole walls do not look very well constructed to keep liquids in, so basically, no idea.
That's the start of the silk-route-underground... They probably have one in China too...
Anyone who has lived in the country without public sewer lines would know this was a septic tank.
Aw men, and here i thought I was about to make a kill by selling some of you guys some century-old artefacts for tens and hundreds of thousands of Dollars... Curse you guyz... Curse you.
A kiln, people! How about a kiln where they baked the bodies of the damned????
i assure its a s**t disposing tank. i am an indian and i own a house in a village. we still have this system running smooth there, and possibly 100% houses over there use this :3
I would instantly have thought a big ol poo hole lol can't believe he just went in there digging, gross!
It might be a cistern, there's an old one inside my house with pipes that come in from outside to collect rainwater
It looks like it may have been used like a burn barrel. That could explain the button, bone, and what looks like burn marks on the brick.
The old bone fragments concern me. I mean, if it is an old cesspool those old inhabitants had dreadful digestion!
It's a sesspool for all of the house's waste. sinks, toilet, tubs. fill it in before some kid falls into it.
I’ve seen some comments & most just quickly suggest it was a toilet, however the ‘history’ of various loos do not look like this! It does however appear to be a last rights ritual chamber///& this very well can mean All Sorts of systemic rituals took place, including Binding[of the human in tight rope] this to stop curses that many believed could take shape to look like human form. One picture most definitely looks a part of ‘some’ human bone~ from part of the arm &/or hand area:::as long as no photo shopped work has been done that is. *I currently have a place thats 200 hundred plus years old,& the investigation done (though by professionals due to laws on heritage properties here) were the use of specialized camera/computer gear...& what was seen hidden indeed had a ritualized alter,& some of the history found did leave most of us with just more than ‘white faces drained of blood’... sometimes its best to ‘Leave Unusualities Alone’!
Id love to read a comment from a doctor if the piece of tube and what can be seen in the inner side could be remain of tissue and that to be bone, if even.
It is a bone, that is not 'tissue' but the inside structure. It is an animal bone which seems to have teeth marks, so probably a dogs bone that fell down there a good while ago.
