50 “Oddly Terrifying” Pictures That May Leave Your Bowels Dropping In Fear (New Pics)
While there's still a good chunk of the year left before we get to spook each other during Halloween or until another internet sensation like Skinamarink provokes a two-week-long bout of insomnia, the internet is not short of supply when it comes to oddly terrifying material.
If you're one of those daredevils who takes great pleasure in horror films and reading creepypastas (alone in your apartment!), then you'll be right at home in the Oddly Terrifying community. From mysterious fingerprints on one's ceiling to creepy, abandoned churches in the middle of nowhere, this is pure nightmare fodder that will surely give you the heebie-jeebies. And in case someone asks, you'll find us under a well-lit blanket coloring our mandalas, trying to return to our happy place. Hopefully, there's no creepy forests on the way back.

Astronaut Bruce Mccandless II Floats Completely Untethered, Away From The Safety Of The Space Shuttle, With Nothing But His Manned Maneuvering Unit Keeping Him Alive. The First Person In History To Do So
This is the one thing that terrifies me to the point of complete existential chaos. I'm not sure why, it's not like I have plans to leave Earth's atmosphere. It's the idea of the infinite void, I think. There was a Netflix original movie last year with Toni Collette, one of my favorite actors, about a shuttle that takes off with a dead body in it and the crew doesn't know. I had to turn it off during the first scene because I was already having a panic attack.
I find the vastness and darkness of the ocean almost as terrifying, but at least you might die more quickly in the ocean.

Oh God, Bruce, get tethered! Tether yourself! My stomach is sick and I want to grab you and safely kick back to ISS! I'm so scared of having to watch you slowly float to your death... how long would that even take? Just f@cking tetherrre! ***I actually do love space tho but nontethering is in my nightmares!
Rumor has it that the space suit became unusable after this due to the smell. :D
I tried to find info on why did he do it, didn't find anything. It's hard to believe NASA would have been negligent to let him do that without a valid reason. It's not like astronauts are a bunch of bros playing dare.
How, exactly, do you suppose a maneuverable space suit is tested? You get in, unhook, and manoeuver. No "bros" need apply. Every inch of movement was monitored and recorded and supervised through telemetry- he did it as part of the mission.
Load More Replies...The photo was taken in 1984 and he made it back to Earth safely. Still, rather him than me.
Ohhhh hoooollly craaaaap noooooo.... That's way more than my miniscule senses could endure. Big respect for Bruce.
That had to have been terrifying!! Definitely need to launder that suit afterwards!
If I had been in that suit, I would have needed a highly efficient sh*t recycling unit.
Thanks for the great updates throughout. I think this is an informative post and it is very useful and knowledgeable. therefore, I would like to thank you for the efforts you have made in writing this article. For more information click here.Click Here
I have wanted to be an astronaut since I was little and my Uncle showed me Sputnik. I would do it!
I have had nightmares like this. Hanging in the air jigh above ground, waiting to fall… 😬
Well, yes, this would be a terrifying - but amazing, beautiful, awesome, and so forth way to pass the last few minutes of corporeal life. I'd consider it worth the experience. Honestly, I don't know what my last thought would be, but fantabulous, never the less.
I fully get why an astronaut would want to do something this exciting. It's not nearly as dangerous as some extreme sports we watch on TV. Worst case scenario, losing conscientious occurs in 15 seconds, death follows in a couple of minutes. Not the worst way to die.
If i could last 10 hours in it - i'd just keep floating away - maybe i'll see something cool before i freeze in space
I don't know...the 6 knows he can find me hiding in the bathroom these days...if this is what I have to do to get some time to myself...
If " not a chance in hell " was a picture.... But, fair play and respect to the guy for doing it....
Flew on three missions and never flew again after 1984. As a safety engineer, I'm grateful.
Would you ever feel as free again once returning to earth? I mean, of course, terrifying but even I feel a weird sense of, we're just spinning a tiny marble here...
and that kids is why your uncle bruce is in the stars now
Well, if something bad did happen and he winded up dieing, what a freaking view!
i wonder how far away he was floating from the craft?!
that is terrifying. i'm worried for him just looking at this, knowing full well he's ok. i'm still worried!
I can only imagine yet, I can't even imagine. Awe inspiring and terrifying all at the same time.
Under the glass case inside a trapper’s store called the Banff Indian Trader Shop, an unsuspecting-looking wooden cabin located at the edge of Banff, Alberta, lies a mysterious creature. A half-fish, half-terrifying "man-beast of the seven seas," presumably caught in the waters of Fiji in the 18th century.
In broad daylight, this mummified monstrosity looks exactly what it sounds like: a dried-up monkey stitched up on top of a giant fish à la merman. Something you'd imagine a 16th-century sailor spinning tall tales about to scare the bejeezus out of other sailors. And sure, it looks kind of comical under normal circumstances.
But leave me alone with it in the wee hours, and I'm pretty sure you'd find me rocking back and forth with my arms around my knees. Even though it was probably me and no one else who decided to go seek out this monstrosity, despite the possibility of a sleepless night - something that r/oddlyterrifying is excellent at, often making others like myself question why we come back here time and time again in the first place.
A Month Ago I Became Friends With A Crow. Today He Brought Me The Skull Of Another Crow
Created in 2013, a few years after creepypasta's Slenderman took internet by the storm, r/oddlyterrifying today boasts 2.6 million community members, ranking among the top subreddits for horror-related content. Honestly, it's not difficult to see the appeal, since there's only a few (safe) places on the net where people can act both as digital curators and consumers of a cornucopia of spine-tingling, possibly cursed imagery.
Of course, considering that 71% of Americans under the age of 35 enjoy scary movies, it's not entirely surprising why some horror enthusiasts might look for an extra thrill either on r/creepypasta or its frightening cousin, r/oddlyterrifying.

Hi There
According to acclaimed horror novelist Stephen King, horror films often act as a "barometer of the societal anxieties that plague our collective subconscious." While this perspective may romanticize the genre, Clark McCauley, a research professor of psychology, suggests that one prevalent reason why young adults, particularly men, seek the thrills of horror movies is to display their courage and bravado.
"Young males often compete to watch horror, to show 'I can take it,'" McCauley explained to Bored Panda in an email, noting that desensitization to feelings of disgust tends to occur faster than desensitization to feelings of arousal, leading to an increased fondness for horror among this demographic (which statistically ranges between 15-25).

When A Kangaroo Feels Threatened, It’ll Submerge Itself Chest Deep In Body Of Water To Lure In The Threat, Then It Will Ferociously Drown It By Holding Its Head Underwater And Biting It Until They’re No Longer Putting Up A Fight
In his 1998 essay 'When Screen Violence Is Not Attractive,' McCauley argues that there are two key factors that influence the enjoyment of horror films (but are not limited to moving pictures). "First is that enjoyment of horror depends not upon the balance of positive and negative emotions elicited," he wrote, "but rather upon excitement and involvement that can be associated with either positive or negative emotions."

Fear, it seems, holds as much significance in human existence as basic needs like food and water, manifesting itself in various forms such as movies, roller coasters, and unexpected tragedies. Or, in our case, the chilling images on r/oddlyterrifying.
The ability of these uncanny images to provoke reactions, then, suggests that our response to them is influenced more by our individual identities than the authenticity of the images themselves. In other words: there's nothing wrong with you, whether you seek folkloric 18th-century mummified monstrosities or stare at the darkly-lit abyss that is r/oddlyterrifying for cheap thrills.

On one hand, I love being with her and able to care for her. She and I have a totally different relationship than when I was a child. We understand each other differently. But I lose more of her each day. We also have arguments due to not understanding each other and I hate it because I'm trying my best to communicate with her but she gets so frustrated and upset when she doesn't understand something or forgets what she wanted to say. I'm in a really bad position because I can't earn income doing this (I've looked into it) so I'm doing Uber Eats when I can and I watch my sister's children in the afternoon. But I'm not making ends meet anymore and my family doesn't want to acknowledge this. I feel like I have no value or purpose anymore.
