Slowly, the sun rises and brings life to the streets, ending a night for those who seek adventure. The houses, cars and sounds all have a certain rhythm. A beat that is played daily you just have to close your eyes to feel it. Today, as I set out with my camera, the rhythm that I am feeling comes from the sunlight and shadows.

As I walk out the door things seem calm with the usual players starting their routines of cleaning, unloading goods and punching the clock. Slowly people and cars fill the streets in a fashion that is amazing, as I wonder what they did last night. The languages, horns and colors all play a part in a brief moment of controlled chaos. There is no conductor for this band as it seems to know the tune to play as each minute passes.

The sentinels tower over me, but I notice the contrast of light and reflections they carry. I pause and try to draw inspirations from what I am seeing. Nothing exciting yet,but my camera bag is at the ready for that special moment. I never grow tired of the streets as each has its own character. The cobblestones beneath my feet tell a story of the past. Most are worn from years of traffic, but there is also a rhythm to be seen in them.

A little further down the street a man says there is nothing to take pictures of around here. I replied that there are pictures everywhere you just have to first see them. He wished me luck and lit a Marlboro before heading underground to the subway. I turned the corner and there it was in front of my eyes the perfect lighting and shadow to make my photographs. The contrast between the middle values added another rhythm for me to follow. By listening to this rhythm I was able to capture the following images in this article. Overall, a wonderful time spent before heading off to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge further in to the jungle.
