Neighbors Kept Running Over This Family’s Fence, So Dad Replaces It With Concrete And Wrecks 8 Of Their Cars

What do you do with neighbors from hell? You could try reason with them. No dice? Then live side-by-side in awkward enmity, exchanging frosty glances at every encounter. Or, you could just pack up, move away and leave the rude people behind.

This family, from a small country in Central Europe, decided on another, much more entertaining option. Revenge! Reddit user MihaM12, posting on the subreddit r/ProRevenge, shared the story of a neighborly dispute going back generations, with obnoxious and entitled neighbors finally getting what they deserved.

“We live in a small private neighborhood, the neighbors are related to us more or less (distant relatives). Everybody here is a complete nutjob. They were constantly arguing over decades before me or my brother were even born,” Miha explained.

“Our property lines are kinda like a square and it is surrounded by road from two sides. Keep in mind that on one part of the road we let our neighbors use 1 square meter of the land so they could use the dirt road safer and not damage our property. This is crucial information.”

“This road is made of gravel. The neighbors want my parents and only my parents to pay for the entire cost to lay an asphalt road. My dad and my mother are constantly fixing potholes for 90% of the road, so naturally, our neighbors thought that they will pay for the asphalt road. Classic r/choosingbeggars

“Fast forward 20 years, the road remains gravel -ish. Nobody wanted to pay for the asphalt road. One day my neighbors order a massive truck filled with tons of wood. The truck driver runs over our fence. Nobody wanted to pay for the property damage that was caused. Our fence is made out of multiple bushes, trees and a little bit of metal fence too. These plants were now completely destroyed and a part of a metal fence completely bent. We had to replant these plants and place a new metal fence. My father told me this was not the first time this happened but actually third. I couldn’t believe it when I heard this.”

“So this is where the revenge story begins.”

“My father is a police officer in the department where they mostly handle frauds, drug busts, etc. He knows the law well. He dug up the property line marker and placed plastic barrels filled with rocks on our property. In the next 6 hours, 3 of our neighbors came knocking on the door because they hit our plastic barrels filled with rocks. They were angry and wanted to call the cops. But they never did. Because everybody knew that little part of the land was still our property. One neighbor, in particular, threatened my dad that he will throw a fucking pickax at my father’s back. Over the period of 1 year, these neighbors hit the barrels so much with their cars that the barrels are now worthless.”

“My dad was furious and he changed his petty revenge into a pro-revenge. He cut some wood to use it as a mold. He bought cement, sand and metal poles. One peaceful afternoon my father and I cemented that whole part of the land and placed some lovely flowers on top. So when they hit the concrete they can smell our flowers of victory/defeat.”

“As we expected 5 neighbors in total wrecked their cars on the new fence, nobody came knocking on the door and we were finally getting revenge.”

RELATED:

“We live in a rather small town near the capital,” Miha told Bored Panda. “It depends on the city, but I would say that it is rather common to live close to your relatives as our country is really small. Our neighborhood is really strange, we are not related directly but had the same great great great great parents.”

“The disputes were usually about that gravel road. It is long about 150 meters and most of us live at the end of it. At first, everybody helped to maintain the road but that took a quick turn. 20 years later only my parents were fixing the potholes while others laughed.”

But even then, the neighbors were not satisfied. “They were constantly arguing that we don’t do a good job at maintaining the road,” Miha said. “They would much rather criticize us than help us.” Still, this doesn’t explain why and how they managed to keep hitting the barriers on Miha’s family property. Where they drunk or something? “Some of them are really bad drivers. But they got used to it after a while. There is one neighbor that was drunk most of the time. I wouldn’t say they were drunk driving but merely just turned too soon.”

So what’s next? All-out war in the neighborhood? “Since the passing of that drunk neighbor, things got a little better. We now get along just fine with his kids and grandkids. However, things remained the same with other neighbors. We were once friends, I even played with other kids and helped one neighbor with his garage stuff and the same neighbor even helped us with our car problems. Sadly, that relationship changed.”

Miha says he has a whole bunch of stories from his crazy hometown in the Balkans and has promised to upload more in the future, it could become an ongoing soap opera. Keep an eye on his Reddit for more, and let us know what you think in the comments!

We had the typical idiot kids with bats thinking it was funny to smash rural mailboxes. The USPS has rules on what mailboxes you can get. My dad welded steel re-bar inside a very large new mailbox after number 3 was trashed. We found parts of a wooden bat, a bent pipe, some hate notes, bits of broken car window glass... Kid at school finally asked me what we did to our mailbox. I said, "The priest blessed it," and let 'em ponder that one... Yes, we're rather evil, but hey, those mailboxes cost money.

I did something like this. I had a regular wooden mailbox post that got hit multiple times, so i finally dug a hole about 2 feet diameter x 3 feet deep, placed a 5 inch steel pipeon the middle and filled it with concrete. Then built i nice looking wooden fascia around it and mounted the mailbox. Had 2 cars hit that and dead-stop before i moved.

When we lived in Ohio, I worked part-time as a rural mail carrier. One of the best stories I had ever heard was about a gang of kids who thought it was funny to take a golf driver or a baseball bat to peeps' mailboxes and destroy them. They obviously didn't realize (or didn't care) that this is actually a felony. One farmer was sick and tired of having to replace the box (I couldn't deliver the mail by using anything other than a mailbox), he had a brilliant idea...he fabricated a "mailbox" the was solid concrete. Then he painted it up and waited. Didn't take long for the village idiots to drive by at high speed and take the bat to the indestructible version. when he hit it, he was hanging out of the passenger window, and the bat broke in a million pieces and threw him off balance and out the window. The driver lost control of the car, and wrecked into the ditch in front of the box. There was security footage of the entire episode. The kids were lucky they didn't get killed!

Back when I was in school, I had a teacher who told me that he helped build this bridge. They would put down this long line of orange cones, and there was always a Man on a Motorcycle who would ride by, stick his leg out, and knock all the cones down. Eventually everyone got fed up of putting the cones up so... One day, after lining them up again, they cemented the last one to the ground. I never heard the rest of the story.

In our village, people drove much to fast last the farm my parents had (in North of Sweden). The authorities responsible for road and highway saftey did nothing even though I had lots of sibblings running around. The solution my father had, when he had enough, was to take the tractor and draw plough furrow across the dirt road. Nobody drove fast there more then once that summer. And I dont think that anybody complained either.

I'm definitely not one for actively taking revenge, but even I can see the concrete fence was justified. It was their property and it broke no laws, they were well within their rights to put up the highly visible concrete to protect their property.

As a caveat, property owners need to verify with the city where their property lines end before installing any sort of barrier. In our locale, the 8' of land on either side of the street belongs to the city, not the property owner. A neighbor was sued after a driver damaged his car on rocks that the neighbor had installed along the curb. He lost on a technicality: the rocks were on city property and he was therefore at fault; had the rocks been 9' from the curb, and the driver drove over them, then that would be the driver's fault.

When I was a kid, our next-door neighbors had high school teenagers who would drive through our yard with their cars and their friends' cars. My dad asked them, many times not to do it as they would constantly run over the small hedges my dad planted. They just ignored him and did it anyway. He decided he to fix it. One day, in front of a bunch of them playing basketball in the driveway, he poured a 4 inch dia. tube with concrete. The tube was placed just inside the foliage of the hedge nearest the street and stuck up out of the ground about 12". He even put reflectors on it. They all saw him do this but the next day, one of them came barreling through our yard until he hit the post and ripped his oil pan off. He was pissed and wanted my dad to pay for his car. My dad: "Nope. I asked you not to drive through my yard and then you saw me pour the post. This is on you." They had several friends do the exact same thing. One of them called the cops who said "No dice kid"

I planted a metal fence post to keep a neighbor from doing u turns onto my property. The last time his front tire missed the utility box by about 10 inches. The box is about 20 inches tall so the bumper was closer. No more u turns in my yard.

Years ago, like 1971-72, I was a senior in highschool. I had "farm shop" as one of my electives as I had completed pretty much all of the required classes to graduate. Our instructor lived outside of town on a rock gravel over asphalt county road. He had the same issue at one time as some of the other commentors, where idiots would come by with baseball bats and try to destroy his mailbox. It was one of those large rural boxes big enough to hold a one foot square box and they are not cheap. So, we took a couple of days of class time and encased the mailbox in solid concrete and the casing went down three feet into the ground with a lattice of rebar around it as well. We then hid the concrete with nice brickwork and cut the box numbers out of 1/4 inch plate steel and painted them black. He never had anymore trouble with mail box damage.

I had a work-study job with maintenance at my college. We fixed a hole punched in the wall in the freshman men's dormitory in the same place three Mondays in a row. The fourth time we put a piece of plywood behind the hole patch. Then we only fixed it one more time. :)

My first little house had a new fence out front and looked wonderful in the summer. Then came winter and the first snow. People came down the hill and made a right-hand turn, and the first week totaled my roommate's car and theirs. My roommate upgraded because he agreed not to call the cops, but to go to the nearby lot and pick out a car -- which no longer parks in front of the house. Two weeks later another car swung around the corner on a frosty day and slid through my new fence -- but took off and didn't leave contact info. So I set up a camera in the living room and a car swung around the corner and creamed the fence again -- but this time I had their license plate number and a clear shot of the driver's face. I received a permit from the city to fill the median strip with river rock "no larger than 14-inches in diameter" as long as I provided a walkway every 16 feet and kept the rocks in place, in case they scattered. I piled them in berms. Never had to fix the fence again!

at work, we used to have a two-ton rock that served as a more attractive alternative to a bollard. a few years ago, I liked that rock a lot, because it did it's job (protecting a fire hydrant) very well. At least until a mattress delivery truck cut the corner and snagged the two-ton rock in it's wheel well- the rock we wedged in and that particular wheel was lifted off. There was a brown streak running down the otherwise brand-new asphalt and down the road. In any case, we've since replaced that rock with a five-ton rock, which has remained undefeated (and totaled eight cars, two pickups, an escalade, and one light moving van.) all of this is on multiple security cameras.

That's exactly the sort of thing my BIL, who owns one acre of land in the middle of our farm, would do. He throws trash over the fence onto our property, plants his veggie garden outside of his property line (hell, he built a shed onto his garage ON our property!), and other silly c**p like that. He's insanely jealous that my husband, his brother, bought the family farm from their mother, and my husband is mad that Clyde managed to squat in my MIL's house while she was dying, then claimed it once she did. Randy had wanted the house for our daughter, who wished to buy it. Family can suck sometimes.

In this case, the plaintiff would most likely wind up being expected to pay the legal fees of everybody involved. It's fairly clear that it's their property, and there's no easement permitting use of that property. Further, as a property owner, you have a right to protect your property from incidental damage caused by idiotic neighbors.

    my parents have a guesthouse up in Masuria, Poland, and they have a land divided by a small road. i's not an official road, it's just something that you create by years of riding through the same piece of land. so anyway, my parents, kind as they are, did not put a fence around the whole land, but left the road accessible for others to use (it goes from the main road to my parents' house and then deep into the forest, going out on another part of the town). so, one day a guy who lives on the other side of the main road came to my parents and demanded that they "donate" the road to the city, making it city grounds or at least they should pave it, because it's hard to use when it's only dirt and a bit of gravel... needless to say my parents did not react to that well and said that what they can do is put a huge a*s gate that will be locked at all times cutting everyone off from the shortcut they now have (;

You are all missing the point. The curb, the corner, the pot holes these issues just gives the offenders an opportunity to distract themselves from their miserable, unhappy, self hatred existence. Your curb is well done and attractive. Now you need to figure out how to add a reflective shield, not realistic, but wouldn’t it be cool if there was a mirror of some sort so they can see their tragic, wretched faces. They have a problem, tell them to look in the mirror, that’s their problem. Broken-hearted families and neighborhood unrest. LOOK IN A MIRROR PEOPLE Learn how to drive and stop deflecting your problems on your neighbor who is just trying to keep his property intact.

It depends in which Community you live, but as far as I know it's forbidden to have a dog in a terrace all day long, or tied. Tge local police should be able to help. Why don't you contact a local society of animal welfare and ask them? Apart from the constant barking that's annoying you, there's a problem of animal abuse. Perhaps they can help you. Good luck, because the level of tolerance to noise of most Spanish people is unbelievable.

This is not how things work. Just because you think your property is where the monument is set does not mean you have a right to permanently build or abstract that area adjoining a public road way. Most municipalities have a thing called setback distances. Especially when fronting arterial streets and intersections. Also you cannot interfere with safe site distances at intersection which is what it looks like you bushes are doing. Your father might be a police officer but he is not a land surveyor, land law lawyer, or traffic engineer. I would have called the municipality and questioned his development within the road righ-of-way and the obstruction of the safe site distance of the intersection. But hey I’m only a land surveyor who works at an engineering firm that does creates housing development plans. Not a cop who thinks he knows everything.

And I thought my family was dysfunctional! Reminds me of a man who had a problem with kids driving down his street and smacking mailboxes with baseball bats. His solution? Buy two metal mail boxes, one considerably larger than the other. He put the smaller mailbox inside the larger one and filled the space between with concrete. After the concrete set, he set his new mailbox outside. From the outside one couldn't tell that it was a "boxception." It wasn't long before he noticed pieces of shattered baseball bats around his mailbox.

I'm very curious how wide the road is. In my experience, most cars in Europe are rather small, and should easily navigate a 90-degree turn. Also, does the property have an easement? In the US, it is common to have a strip of your property along a road be empty. It belongs to you, but you are not permitted to build anything on it (you can have plants, but no fences or structures).

My housemate, who has been driving for a whole 6 months, can navigate the Jeep Wagoneer into our narrow driveway without hitting anything--and back out, too! (Of course, I threatened him with mayhem if he everbroke anything; it's technically mine.) On the other hand, he's careful.

Sorry, but I completely disagree with you. Apply the same logic to reddit. Many of their posts are screenshots from Twitter. So I could say - "People should go to twitter instead." But it's nonsense. In this particular case, we interviewed the guy, got his permission + an additional photo not available on reddit. Things happen in many places - twitter, reddit, Instagram and everyone is free to write about them. Reddit doesn't bother to ask for permission when they rip stuff off all the time, nor do they interview people.

Further, as a property owner, you have a right to protect your property from incidental damage caused by idiotic neighbors.

    my parents have a guesthouse up in Masuria, Poland, and they have a land divided by a small road. i's not an official road, it's just something that you create by years of riding through the same piece of land. so anyway, my parents, kind as they are, did not put a fence around the whole land, but left the road accessible for others to use (it goes from the main road to my parents' house and then deep into the forest, going out on another part of the town). so, one day a guy who lives on the other side of the main road came to my parents and demanded that they "donate" the road to the city, making it city grounds or at least they should pave it, because it's hard to use when it's only dirt and a bit of gravel... needless to say my parents did not react to that well and said that what they can do is put a huge a*s gate that will be locked at all times cutting everyone off from the shortcut they now have (;
