Here I had the most unusual commission. And here is the back story.
Once upon a time, there was a boy with autism who didn’t have many friends. One day his neighbour threw out two cats to the street – named Kiwi and Mango. Mango found his forever home pretty fast when Kiwi was still in exile. Perhaps that was due to his illness that made him lose parts of his upper lips.
The boy found and sheltered him. He and his mom started giving food to Kiwi. At first, Kiwi was unapproachable, he could scratch or bite, perhaps he wasn’t treated well. So everyone decided to avoid this cat except the boy, who was accepted by the cat. They became best friends. The cat was giving therapy snuggles and attention that boy needed.
Many years passed. This boy became a young man, but he still remembers his buddy and was sharing this story with his girlfriend. She saw how much that friend meant to him and decided to make him this Birthday surprise – a portrait of his buddy. As there was only one photo left.
He was a beautiful red cat but when I saw his photo it was hard to tell if he was red at all due to the quality. I was trying my best to recreate this beloved cat-friend.
I do hope the birthday man will like it. :)
