I made a woodcut of Tim Curry’s Pennywise and I had it on the wall of my guest room. After having multiple guests complain about how creepy it was, I decided to get rid of it and install it somewhere in Montpelier, Vermont.

When I heard Montpelier was closing State street for a farmers market and an impromptu art festival, I figured that would be a good time to install it and wondered if I could do so without being seen.

I found a bench that was perfect and slipped the stenciled woodcut beneath the bench. I couldn’t believe how creepy it looked once I was able to step away. I also couldn’t believe nobody saw me or saw Pennywise creeping below. I watched as people sat on the bench and everyone walked by not noticing him.

Fifteen minutes later my daughter and I are enjoying a slice of pizza and listening to the live music when a big cop starts walking towards me carrying Pennywise. My stomach dropped and I was immediately disappointed thinking it caused a disturbance and now I was getting into trouble. To my relief the cop walked right past me although I was still disappointed knowing that the artwork was taking away before any of my followers on social media could come down and grab it. The back of the painting has a message on it that reads “This artwork is free under one condition: you promise to do one good thing for the world.”

Then I got a message on Facebook from a follower whos brother was the cop and she had him find it. She sent me a photo to show me what he did with my woodcut and it was hilarious. The Montpelier Police Department have a great sense of humor. Citizens of Montpelier can relax because Pennywise has been caught.
