30 Mothers Are Sharing Realistic Pictures Of Baby Bumps And Pregnant Bodies To Fight Toxic Standards
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder – a very healthy saying that pushes folks not to judge anyone by their looks, yet somehow our society still seems to be missing the point. It's not a secret that our world is highly invested in other people's business, especially when it comes to appearance. Even though, for the past decade, celebrating the diversity of others has become very encouraged, you'll still encounter a few individuals that'll make sure to let you know that they're not happy with the way you are.
The constant misrepresentation on TV and social media doesn't help either. People assume that what they see on the big screen is what the world is all about, making the real-life stuff seem unrealistic or not up to the standard. All this toxicity has even spread to pregnant women. Society expects every mother to have a perfectly rounded and petite baby bump – when pregnant bellies, just like human bodies, come in all shapes and sizes. Luckily, pregnant women are not standing still and are constantly reminding folks that bumps are unique to each person. Today, Bored Panda decided to gather a few baby bump photos to celebrate mothers and their strong spirit.

Let's begin with the fact that pregnancy is a highly challenging process that is often overlooked and underappreciated. Mothers spend 37 to 42 weeks growing a baby, most of the time feeling pretty under the weather. The potential complications both during pregnancy and delivery, the incredibly draining symptoms like constant sickness and raging hormones, but most importantly, no sleeping on your stomach – all these things, plus many more, are the daily "burdens" of a pregnant woman.
Moreover, the postpartum period is equally exhausting. Things like postnatal depression and anxiety often crawl up to mothers unexpectedly, making it hard for them to enjoy the long-awaited bliss of motherhood. Physical changes like hair loss caused by plummeting estrogen levels is also a very frequent side effect, as well as pelvic organ prolapse, back pain and an unexpected, but at the same time fairly self-explanatory change – altered bone structure.
I'm guess twins or an NFL front lineman? Either way very beautiful
Apart from having to go through all these life-changing events, and the physically and emotionally draining aftermath of pregnancy – mothers also have to deal with a bunch of societal pressures.
For instance, since the whole “social media influencer” phenomenon took off, the boundaries between our offline and online lives often get blurred. Many folks are in love with the idea that it allows us to create this perfect lifestyle while having all the control in the world in the form of editing. Though the majority of us are aware that social media content doesn’t represent people’s real life, we still struggle to accept it and repeatedly fall into its trap.
Idc what Any woman's pregnancy looks like. They are all gorgeous!!
Agreed, despite all the negatives (back pain, swollen legs/feet, having all your organs squished to one side then used as a football) pregnant women seem to glow- loved how my SO looked when she was pregnant
Load More Replies...It might not be her first child, baby bumps get more pronounced the more kids you have!

However, when it comes to motherhood and family/mommy influencers, things can get quite toxic. It's important to realize that not every influencer's aim is to positively affect your life, as there are quite a few creators that do it for the sake of popularity. The well-known channels and accounts turn out to be strictly money-driven individuals with their own dirty secrets. It’s crucial to surround yourself with healthy content that will inspire you to get going, even when you feel like you’re failing.
I'm curious if she has pain. She is beautiful and I love her happiness!
Look at that smile, beautiful! She is having twins (follow the photo)
Women get pressured on a day-to-day basis, and it's a shame that even when we're growing a human being inside of us, we're still expected to look "perfect", whatever that might mean. What a pity that a few stretch marks, a very natural occurrence, by the way, can be so looked down upon. It’s rather dumbfounding that the majority of the population still struggles to comprehend that people don’t get copied and pasted and that every inch of our body is unique to us and us only. People should be appreciated and diversity should be celebrated instead of belittled.
Could also be single vs twin, or up down baby vs sideways lying, so many possibilities
That tatoo looks like a flower crown for her belly, it's perfect!
Not necessarily - that is the whole point of this post! Some bellies are huge very early and some are very small right up to birth. Both of these women could be at exactly the same stage of pregnancy.
Load More Replies...It's amazing, she looks so tiny, a woman's body is fantastic. She is beautiful.
Motherhood is a magical thing, and as tough as it might be, we need to learn to accept the fact that we’ll get judged no matter what. Our world is filled with toxic individuals that won’t miss a chance to make a derogatory remark whether you’re Kris Jenner herself or a single mother from a small town. Who knows why people have so much evil in them, however – what’s truly important is your and your family’s well-being, so how about we try to focus on that?
My question is how on this planet did she get that bra on!?!?! I cant do that and I'm not pregnant!!
The moral of the story is that we're all different and that we'll still get shamed no matter what and how we do it. All these people who expect every mother to "carry beautifully" and have that "pregnancy glow" are simply romanticizing the childbearing process that, most of the time, is immensely difficult. However, Bored Panda hopes that this article has put a smile on one or two faces, and remember that your body has given you the greatest gift of your life.
Mine is similar. Except I am not pregnant or ever been pregnant.
Mine is worse and I too have never been pregnant.
Load More Replies...Why...has she got needles in her hands? I really hope it's some sort of acupuncture
She could be three to four months pregnant or more. Some women carry like this. It's the wonder of the human body. They deserve grace too.
She was one week shy of 6 months pregnant here! Her name is Sarah Stage :) she showed her pregnancy journeys with both boys
Load More Replies...This what I looked like when I found out I was one week pregnant.
She might be pregnant but that is not a baby bump, it's just a flat belly
She documented her whole pregnancy on her instagram. For both boys she didn’t have a big bump at all. In this picture she was one week shy of 6 months! Her name is Sarah Stage :)
Load More Replies...This is called "30 Mothers Are Sharing Realistic Pictures Of Baby Bumps And Pregnant Bodies To Fight Toxic Standards" To the people who down voted this post or are writing comments saying that its not a true baby bump you're giving into toxic standards. Easy as that. Edit: It also says "Pregnant Bodies" so just because its not a big bump doesn't make it not a pregnant body.
I don’t understand why this was downvoted so much? Can someone explain please?
I thought the title says "realistic" - what I'd expect to see is not a pregnant supermodel, because 99.9 % of women don't look like this, pregnant or not. Her breasts do look realistic though, with the very visible veins, but that's about it. I mean, she looks beautiful, but how she looks is not very realistic for the majority of other pregnant women.
Load More Replies...My mother didn't show until she was at about six to seven months. No one knew or believed she was pregnant. It didn't mean her pregnant body was unrealistic, it was just how her pregnant body formed over the months. I don't see this as unrealistic. It's just another example of a pregnant body form. Also, keep in mind 'camera angles'.
The post is called "to fight toxic standards". I would say this is very much the a toxic standard people expect. Many want pregnancy to look exactly like this - just big boobs and a small bump (I'm guessing bump is sort of hiding by the way she's standing plus many don't look pregnant from the front/back but still). Most don't want to see stretch/hormonal marks and overall weight gain even though that's the norm and that is what the title suggests it is about.
Load More Replies...I'd say it's just beautiful. I'm glad, as a trans man, that I can give birth. I'm proud that even though I don't identify as female, I could someday be a part of a beautiful process and experience.
Load More Replies...I find it so rude when people say "oh it must be twins or triplets". Not necessarily, everyone carries differently and it's a huge difference if it's your first or second or third and so on (you usually get a bigger belly with each kid). Let's not body shame pregnant women.
we've normalized pregnancy so much! its literally such a mystery how these women (or uterus owners in general) are literately carrying a full on human!!!!
Such beautiful images. And when I was younger I wondered how my mother and other moms I know had stretch marks and those on TV didn't? I know now it's very common.
