That's why I set my own deadline to 3 days before the actual one. It was a matter of discipline to actually stick to my own timetable, but it does wonders to my productivity. As a result if a revelation happens then I have enough time to follow through (but honestly ~90% of those last-minute ideas ends up in the trash within a day ;)).
