The Midterm Memes Are So Good, People Are Demanding A Federal Holiday To Look At Them—Here Are The 27 Best Ones
It's been a terribly tough morning for Republicans, but a particularly entertaining one for the internet!
Americans have barely had time to process the results of the 2026 midterm elections. Nevertheless, social media users had their priorities straight and got down to business: making memes out of the blow to U.S. President Donald Trump.
The election delivered a stunning setback for the Grand Old Party, with Democrats winning control of both chambers of Congress for the first time since 2023.
The blue wave came amid widespread voter frustration over the cost of living, Trump's handling of the economy, and the war with Iran.
Democrats scored major victories across the country, flipping traditionally Republican territory that Trump had won by double-digit margins just two years earlier.
The party scored a series of wins in states like Iowa, Texas, Florida, and Pennsylvania, and picked up new seats in Ohio, Utah, Kentucky, Missouri, and Nebraska.

Among the victories drawing attention were Sherrod Brown's return in Ohio and Rob Sand's win in Iowa, making him the first Democratic governor in the state in over a decade.
Trump-backed Republican Vivek Ramaswamy lost the Ohio governor’s seat to Democrat Amy Acton, who became the state’s first woman governor.
Following the results, Trump pulled up his Truth Social account to vent about the defeat, saying: “I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
While speaking to the Wall Street Journal, he said he was looking forward to working with the Democrats and expected to “get along very well with them.”
“If we don’t, we’ll be very tough on them; they’ll be very tough on us,” he added.
Netizens reacted to his loss with a heavy dose of sarcasm, saying: “He’s in a lot of pain right now.”
While politicians were busy digesting the results, social media users had a field day with the political upheaval. Some thought the memes were so good that Americans deserved a federal holiday just to appreciate them.
The memes even made predictions about what’s coming next: the return of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), pronouns in email signatures, and everything that conservatives have branded “woke” in the past.
“You have twelve hours to place the pronouns back in your email, or you will be reported,” one joked about the new possible workplace rules.
“Pronouns back in bios now,” said New York City Council member Chi Ossé, sharing a picture of Democrat James Talarico’s projection.
Talarico flipped a U.S. Senate seat in Texas, defeating Republican Ken Paxton to pull off the first statewide victory in more than three decades.
“We’re putting a COVID-conscious lesbian bar in every city in Texas,” one joked about the new trajectory in Texas.
Another said, “The trans flags will be flying high” in the country.
The memes even took a jab at Trump’s controversial plan to build a massive ballroom at the White House.
The project was announced last year and attracted considerable attention for its scale, cost, and the demolition of the historic East Wing to make way for it.
Now that Democrats are controlling Congress, netizens joked about setting a different agenda for the ballroom.
“We're turning the ballroom into a drag show venue,” one quipped.
With the internet showing no signs of slowing down, here are 28 memes that perfectly capture the post-election chaos.

Could have put a million dollar renovation on 400 schools. Could have been a national hero not an odious loser jerk.
To all Californians and Americans, I'm glad we all finally have some kind of reason to feel better again and I send you all the very best wishes and I hope that maybe we can now begin to fix what has been broken and replace what has been stolen from our society. I know that the battle is far from over, but at least now we have a chance. It's so good to know that so many people, both on the left and the right, did what needed to be done. May our elected representatives now all do the same thing, and may our next appointed Supreme Court justice make decisions that are actually good for our entire country, not just billionaires. Time to take a very harsh look at Citizens United, and time for Congress to take an even harsher look at Project 2025.
Lifelong Californian here - celebrating our first Latino governor! Woot!
