Twitter Can’t Calm Down After The 2022 Met Gala And These Are 30 Of The Most Chucklesome Reactions To It
The Met Gala, also known as “the Party of the Year,” “the Oscars of the East Coast,” and “fashion’s biggest night” just took place on Monday, May 2, at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York City, returning to its original date after the 2021 event taking place in September due to the pandemic.
That night and for a couple of days after, everyone becomes a fashion expert and gives their opinions on who was the best and worst dressed. Some of them share their insights on the internet and they can get quite funny even if you’re seeing them for the first time, as was evident from last year’s reactions that you can find here. So let’s look at what hilarious reactions the event caused this time.

She looks like a golden princess! She's gorgeous and I love that dress! If I had it I'd wear it around the house!
Load More Replies...she looks amazing! wish i could rock yellow like her, i'd end up looking jaundiced
Her dress is reminiscent of Belle from "Beauty and the Beast." She looks gorgeous!
Princess dress. She needs a bird perched on her shoulder or finger, singing 🐦🕊🐦
From an outsider’s view the Met Gala looks like just a bunch of celebrities gathering for a party but the event is actually a fundraising ball for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute based in New York organized by American fashion magazine Vogue. It also marks the start of the Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.
Even though last year’s event was postponed, it actually raised more than $16.4 million which is the most that the Met Gala has ever raised. The money comes from ticket sales because while celebrities are invited, the brands have to pay $35,000 for a ticket, and they usually book tables, the cost of which ranges from $200,000 to $300,000.
Just because you're not a celebrity does not mean you can't be beautiful and elegant. She's definitely both.
The Met Gala has been held every year since 1948, except in 2000, 2002 and 2020, and it takes place on the first Monday of May apart from 2021. It always has a theme and the invited guests are expected to follow it, but they are not obligated. The theme is picked by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
For 2022, Anna Wintour chose the theme “In America: An Anthology of Fashion," and the dress code was gilded glamour and white tie. Gilded Glamour is a history period between 1870 to 1900. The term was actually coined by writer Mark Twain, coming from his 1893 novel The Gilded Age, written with Charles Dudley Warner. It is a satirical piece talking about how America after the Civil War became greedy and politically corrupt.
WTF? Everything looks awesome about his look, except a derrierre stolen from the Gone With the Wind ladies' wardrobe.
This gown reminds me a lot of the gown in #8. It has a similar color and draping going on (but I like these gloves better). They definitely nailed the Gilded Age theme.
Ryan needs a monocle attached to his tuxedo. Even if he leaves it there all night, it would have been PERFECT!
Oh dear. That dude should learn two things.1: never wear a wrist watch when you're wearing a pocket watch. 2:never ever wear a watch in white tie,
I like this look. Well done to his stylist...different and exciting enough to stand out, but not ridiculous.
During this time, the lightbulb and the telephone were invented as well as machines that sped up the clothing-making process, but the extravagant clothing characteristic to this period actually was concealing the turmoil in the post-Civil War society.
Stylist Christina Stein says “Gilded, by definition, means covered thinly with gold leaf or gold paint. So the definition could be taken quite literally with a lot of gold. But if we refer to The Gilded Age, the name suggests that the appearance of wealth concealed actual poverty. Gilded is often used to point out illusions in this way."
This dress was incredible! So detailed and imaginative (Blake Lively)
The draping on the back of this gown is so pretty I wish I could see the front.
Look up Blake Lively's dress. That copper bow came off and revealed a patina, like the Statue of Liberty. It's amazing!
Load More Replies...blake & ryan again, a gorgeous couple no matter what they wear.
Not just the monocle... this guy has some stylin' lapels. I think I'm getting myself a monocle... so much more memorable than reading glasses.
Lol, get two monocles and hold them up to your face like glasses.
Load More Replies...I don't know... look at some of these photos... especially Franklin Leonard and his panniers.
In that period, people would approach fashion with the more-is-more attitude and their outfits would be over the top, including a lot of gold details, massive jewelry, ruffles and bows. Women’s clothing would have exaggerated waists and they would accessorize to create more drama with umbrellas and feathered hats.
What dominated in men’s fashion was the tuxedo. Its appearance actually hasn’t changed that much since then, but back in the day, men would finish the look with a pointed beard and a luscious mustache.
I didn't give permission to take pictures of me, geez, lol. (edit corrected misspelling)
she looks like she cut a hole in a 50-year-old throw rug and wore it as a shawl, then using the actual rug as her dress.
This is getting into the 1920s. Wrong era, but still gilded, I guess.
Her haircut is an affront. How can this woman dictate what is "fashion" and at the same time walk around with that thing on her head?
No, nuclear winter gave it a nod but isn't a slave to anything. It's all in the cape. Massive understatement.
It seems that many people were disappointed to not see the Gilded Age well represented at the 2022 Met Gala. Many were expecting outfits that would resemble something from Bridgerton with the corsets and the feathers, so when they saw what the celebrities chose to wear, they didn't hold back with the roasts.
Who would you say was the best and worst dressed? Who do you think did their homework and dressed to the theme the most accurately? Let us know in the comments and don’t forget to upvote the tweets that you thought were the funniest!
Actually in the rules - WHITE tie, no BLACK tie. White tie has a vest and usually some jewelry.
Right!?!? I thought the slip was supposed to go under the dress.
Load More Replies...I think men are absolutely gorgeous in tuxedos, so I am fine with all men wearing them. You can always go white tie like Elon Musk 😂😂
well, you can be more creative with dresses than suits...
Lmao why did this get downvoted??? I don't understand
Load More Replies...Idk why but I would not be surprised if this walked on
I've seen this picture online before with the caption "People who have air fryers, looking at people who don't".
I don't think they suffocate you if you actually wear them properly and have one that fits correctly but I could be wrong.
Load More Replies...Some of the most beautiful clothing ever came out of the gilded age... it should have been fun finding a gown to fit the theme.
see. everyone complains about men all wearing the same tux, but as soon as one tries something different like shawn did you guys make fun of them.
I thought that woman's red hair was a fur piece thrown over his shoulder!
He wasn't even there. he didn;t attend this year. https://news.yahoo.com/why-harry-styles-olivia-wilde-160400890.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAABnmavIl2rs6IwGi6X87VsD5mnOaHstNrwGonkfm92xOAVkuZVld0LLPVR9q_4rb4JYbyrErzgbKssXNDQgcHqd6qxaPxg9MN3tCGyZZ3J_40HjCIjgt3aK206KJUUetiy7jh2X1si75rJ2is1lGAK8DzDbswMpuX_UraO9QBegz

So I guess you could say those stairs are taking fashion to another level
Love that Disney style= dress like you lost your winter coat and have to layer every single article of clothing left in your suitcase to stay warm.
Who are you again? She'll be invited every year for the rest of your life before you are :)
Load More Replies...sharpay from highschool musical? candace from phinneas and ferb? maddie fitzpatrick the suite life of zach and cody?
Load More Replies...I was just asking myself that... Because she co-hosted the Oscars this year?
Load More Replies...It's funny cus she talks s**t about the Met every year and still goes like ??? wtf
In no world or universe should she have been able to wear that gown whilst telling everyone she lost 16 pounds- please I hope you don't let your children listen to this dumb b***h. She is no f*****g Marilyn like at all!
Most of these gowns are not gilded age, but some of them are beautiful.
That’s actually her in body paint. Impressive she stood there all evening not moving.
Srsly? Because Rhianna is the only woman who had ever been pregnant?
Why is she without shoes but somehow sitll in high heels ?
Yesss that would make for some really interesting outfits :) it would hopefully force the men to wear something other than black suits.

kim k doesn’t deserve that marilyn monroe dress. marilyn was a girlboss. kim doesn’t do s**t.
I love the dress or whatever. My problem is it doesn’t fit the theme, it was accessorized horribly, and nothing was added to elevate it. I believe she wore just to cement her name into fashion history. They want her to be Kim Kardashion fashion icon, and omg she’s wearing such an iconic dress how iconic of her. Kylie probably wore that ugly a*s outfit so her sisters looked better now that I ponder it.
I had to google what Met gala was, still not clear but I think it's a bunch of celebrities wasting a bunch of money?
Umm, am I supposed to know what the Met Gala is? Or care? It looks like a self congratulating circle jerk.
It is. Just remember that even Kim Kardashian gets invited. “Nuff said.

The theme was actually "Gilded Glamour". The museum exhibit was called “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”.

Since when is fashion not a form of art??? Just because it’s not the type of art you’re interested in doesn’t make it less of an art form.

Before y’all talk about who cares about celebrities and talk about these kinds of things. I do. I care. This is the only form of entertainment I have right now.
It's not something I'm passionate about but I do love looking at all the different outfits. I care too Queen Jackson 👸
