"Souls of Jal'Vahrez" is an illustration representing one of the dark gods of Varyel. Although not a villain in my stories, Jal'Vahrez, the Eater of Souls, has an impact on how the world is shaped and tends to intervene in the ways most bizarre, causing the demise of many. I created this as a training on how to get from grayscale to color without losing the overall palette and keep the lore bits (ie the iridescence of vox, one type of magic energy) intact. I would probably prefer it in more painterly style, but I really needed to play with materials in the most detail possible to boost my skill. Hence, a lot of time spent on scales, gemstones and tiny add-ons.
