my grandmother will soon be 90. She was born in Latvia and lived in Riga for the first few years, then went to Poland and finally Germany. I would like to create a timeline (on paper) for her birthday, where I write down something nice or interesting for each year. just a sentence or two. such as the fact that she was 19 when the first zebra crossing was installed in Germany. Going through the various chronicles on the Internet is very exhausting and sometimes I only have such boring facts that in one year Nena's "99 Luftballons" was in the first 5 places in the charts. I would be happy if you could give me some facts from Latvia. e.g. what was the colour/bird/food of the year? Was something specific invented in Latvia in a year or was there an important festival? Was there a nice change in Riga (a positive new law, the construction of a nice building or park...) At a certain year? I'm not looking for negative news, politics, football or cars. I want to show her a long timeline with zero negative events because she deserves to see good things at the end of her long journey. With the paper I also want to give her the opportunity to remember and tell us family about it. I hope I described it well enough. my grandmother is a housewife, learned dietitian (and lived to cook and bake), knits, sings in the protestant choir, likes birds and flowers. my grandfather was a well-known stamp collector and privately collected and translated Baltic letters and documents until he died. maybe you'll find interesting things I could mention. I am thankful for every input.

Also I would like to know if there is a typical Latvian birthday gift or food?
