Man Orders Artist To Paint His Portrait For Free Because His Son ‘Has Cancer’, Gets The Response He Deserves

An anonymous Spanish ‘artist’ recently uploaded a conversation he apparently had with a fan who asked for a commission.
We all know that artists dedicate an awful lot of time and hard work to their craft, and very often don’t get the compensation they deserve. This artist had clearly had enough, and after claiming that this particular portrait would take 3-4 days to complete, refused to budge on his asking price. That didn’t deter this plucky fan however, and what was to follow was a barely believable exchange that quickly descended into farce, with the fan using increasingly desperate tactics to try score himself some free art.

Lying about the illness of a close relative is probably as low as a human can sink. This person is so much of an as***le that he already is to be pitied. Good to see that the artist did not join the game but took this with patience and dignity.
Imagine that he's not lying and he's son is really sick... then he's trying to get a free artwork taking advantage of his dying son. Whatever what the truth, he's definitivly an ass****
I had a boss that played the pity card to get a promotion when his wife died. They gave it to him & then he turned around & terminated a girl for missing too many days when she lost a baby.
A woman I know is using her child's cancer to get people to buy her stuff out of guilt. Pretty sure that's about as low as lying about it.
If his son is sick and dying, he won't be able to enjoy his dad's portrait for long. And what will happen to the portrait when the kid passes away? And if your kid is dying, wouldn't you rather have a portrait of them instead of them have a portrait of you (unless you have magical healing powers that only cures sick people via a portrait of you)? Also, someone who knows someone dying of cancer wouldnt ever wish that diseass on someone else. Maybe this guy should visit an oncology centre to see what cancer really does.
Telling the person whom you're asking a favour that they are not good enough to do that favour for you is totally gonna get you the deal. Some people just don't know how logic works.
But it is the foundational principle of negging. "I'm gonna be mean to you and tell you that your (boobs/face/art/ bartending skills/xyz) are crap and barely within my radar so you throw yourself at me in a desperate attempt to prove me wrong..... I don't understand why anyone would do anything at all with a random stranger who walks up and is casually insulting to you out of nowhere, but I guess it works for some people.
dont know why doodlebugs comment got down-voted - i have very similar experience and i learned the hard way that it really is manipulation. such people learn this works on people who love them and who do not see through this tactics. then try to use it on everyone else, because, why the hell shouldn't it work. their arrogance and selfishness infuriates me horribly.
Not just strangers. I have a cousin who "negged" my mother for years, trying to get money out of her. He insulted her many different ways, then played a victim of life, then used all of that to try to persuade her she should help him. It's another form of manipulation. (Mom said no every time, thank goodness, but he continued to stress her out to the last days of her life.)
@lia minou - maybe it was my cousin and his flying monkeys, lol. (And if this is you, cuz, you should tell all of BP how you scrounged up a new girlfriend to scam every time my mom said no to you. Let the ladies know who you really are.)
Just imagine the stuff he says to his partner.
"oh my art sucks? Well then you can have it for free. You only have to pay for it if you like it"
I love the gofak part. Honestly the artist handled the situation much more gracefully than I would have.
