Marketing can be pretty fun. Coming up with creative ideas and finding ways to present a product to an audience can be incredibly fulfilling for many people, though the art of advertising isn’t nearly as loved as we might think.
After all, we all despise ads. Whenever we open a website, watch a video or a stream, or even turn on the TV, they can get pretty annoying, pretty fast. But some ads catch our eye because they're so iconic, so we pulled a bunch of examples from Instagram to prove that not all ads are evil.

Neither an ambulance nor a hearse will drive you home. Yes I am fun at parties.
Fun, unique ads aren’t just a job well done. They can also have a real impact on consumers. A global research study by Oracle found that 90% of people are more likely to remember an ad if it’s funny, while 72% would even choose a funny brand over its competitors.
However, business executives admitted in the same survey that they’re afraid to add humor to their advertisements. In fact, a whopping 95% of executives share this concern. And that’s why, whenever we come across a genuinely funny ad, it can feel so rare that it sticks with us.
This was glorious! UK,2018. KFC changed its distribution company from Bidvest Logistics to DHL, and it was a total fùck up with most of their restaurants running out of chicken.
In fact, funny ads are so rare that, according to data from market research giant Kantar, only about 33% of global ads use humor. But oddly enough, that seems to pay off, since humorous campaigns account for 50% of the winners of its Creative Effectiveness Awards.
After all, David Ogilvy, often dubbed the “Father of Advertising,” once said, “You cannot bore people into buying your product; you can only interest them into buying it.” So clearly, funny marketing is doing something right.
Meh, if it's a genuine happy smile, I don't give a daㅤmn about the number of teeth involved.
Let’s be honest, too: many ads are aimed at Gen Z. They’re the generation that’s entering the workforce, earning their own money, and setting trends. And when a product starts trending, Gen Z is likely to want to get their hands on it.
In marketing, understanding your target audience is incredibly important. And when it comes to Gen Z and Millennials, humor seems to do the trick. According to GlobalWebIndex, 41% of Gen Z and 34% of Millennials said they browse social media primarily for funny and entertaining content. So it’s no surprise that funny ads can be particularly effective with these generations.
Anyone buying anything from Balenciaga deserves all the ridicule they get. Fair play to the company though for knowing how to market to stupid rich people.
The police, flooded by panicked calls, must've LOVED them for this
There was à campaign with "Citroën always ahead" as a motto and someone drew à cartoon with a 2CV painstakingly climbing a slope, and à loooong file of cars behind it (here it's forbidden to overtake à car when in an upwards slope).
One of the most iconic ads to become a cultural phenomenon was the 1999 Budweiser commercial known for its legendary “Whassup?!” catchphrase. The ad aired in late 1999 during Monday Night Football, and we all watched friends calling each other while watching the game, sticking out their tongues, and screaming, “Whaaaaasssuuuuup?!”
People started greeting their friends with the same yell at school, work, and even in their answering machine messages. The ad went on to win the Cannes Grand Prix, proving that a funny 30-second commercial could become a global phenomenon almost overnight.
Marketing strategists have also noted that laughter can temporarily reduce counter-arguing. When viewers laugh, their cognitive defenses may drop, making them more receptive to a brand’s core message. So, there are plenty of benefits to creating an iconic, funny ad!
Let us know, Pandas: Which of these ads was your favorite? And if we missed a commercial that really stuck with you, which one was it? Let us know in the comments!
They were right. The typical teenager isn't going to listen to a lecture about their health when they already know they're invincible. Make what they're doing look uncool however....
Male or female, empathetic leaders are a vital asset to keep a team functioning for the long term.
Was this before or after they created Bic for Her lady-pens and charged more money for them?
My '01 Volkswagen Eurovan is also kinda ugly, but I still love the ol' girl XD
As a baldy, I wouldn't wear them, but I know some people would absolutely rock this look.
Domestication actually HAS changed the domestic dog's digestive tract significantly. Dogs can have up to 30 copies of a gene that allows them to break down starch, vs. wolves who only have 2 copies of said gene. They also have significant variations in the genes that allow them to break down carbohydrates. However, the literal physical structure of the dog's digestive tract did NOT change - they still have the short, "fast" digestive tract of an obligate carnivore. They CAN derive more nutrition from starches and carbs than their wolf ancestors can, but that does NOT mean that they should eat a "human" omnivorous diet or that they should eat a diet high in plant products. A dog's diet should still be primarily meat-based.
I've used this advert with my Grade 5 English classes for years. It's awesome.
They do actually make decent printers. It's just a shame that they try to fùck you over any way they can, especially with the ink.
Shame they couldn't be bothered to find a genuine British guards uniform. I mean, there are five to choose from. Edit to add. While there are rules, enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority, there is no blanket ban on using genuine uniforms in the UK.
Like, they're cute because Stitch is cute, sure, but I don't understand the "iconic" or "legendary" aspect of advertising a Disney movie by having the character eat bits of actually iconic, much more classic Disney movies XD
That's because you cannot understand the poster like that without the info from actually knowing the plot before.
It's instantly and obviously a crocodile. I saw that first, then the crowd and then thought how contrived it was. Not on the same level as many of these.
except those shots were BS. They put giant DSRL camera lenses and flashes on top of the Iphone lenses and flashes with a rig. Sure, the camera in the end was an iphone, but if you didn't add thousands of professional photographer equipment on top, you would never get a shot like that in that iphone
Isn't that just what wigs do? The Sunday papers used to have huge wig advertising with dozens of styles and shades.
"What are you wearing, Jake from State Farm?" ---Umm, khakis--- "She sounds hideous!!". .
Meh. Look at all the celebrity weddings in the UK that Hello magazine were involved with.
I have knelt before my husband but it's because compression socks are hard to put on when you've had a stroke.
Load More Replies...What I want to know is why adverts like this didn't cause violent revolution. I mean, I'm a bloke and not particularly enlightened or anything. But this sort of thing really gets *my* goat, you know? 🤷♂️
Lenin once said "give us the child for 8 years and it will be a Bolshevik forever." Young girls raised in the 50s were taught their purpose was to serve a man. That's hard to shake when you hear it from birth forward and see ads like this. Even those who questioned it kept quiet for the most part out of fear of being ostracized.

Firefox's latest ad is genius and very nostalgic. They got a lot of the old internet memes together: Numa Numa guy, Tay Zonday etc. Link in the reply
This list needs Old Bay's response to a PETA billboard in Maryland featuring a blue crab with the caption, "I'm ME, not MEAT."
lol.. I live in MD and I remember those billboards.
Load More Replies...The first time I've ever actually found several ads at once that I liked! 😃At least about 10 or 15 of them.
I didn't think these would be very good but they are older ads that actually had advertising departments and not just piling it on an unpaid intern.
Where the hell did the notifications button up the top go?? Is anyone else having this issue?
