I was just reading about a guy in a town near me, a potato farmer, who planted potatoes in the pothole at the end of his driveway. Council wasn't listening to his pleas to get it filled so that was his solution. Then he made gin from the potatoes after harvest.

My God, that is awful! You can make fun of France for being "socialistic," but damn, my area does not have streets like this, and we are just a collection of villages. Potholes and such are fairly quickly filled in and streets are repaved every several years, as are routes between cities/villages.
