I highly doubt that is all they did if the car was sitting long enough to look like that. At minimum, besides cosmetic stuff, they had to flush and change all the fluids, most likely new spark plugs, and a new battery. And it depends on if an animal decided to make the engine its home or not for other stuff.

Whether it’s a jaw-dropping fitness transformation or a freshly cleaned room, there’s something deeply satisfying about a good before-and-after. One image shows the chaos, the other reveals calm. It’s like watching progress unfold in real time, and you don’t even have to be involved to feel the thrill. These transformations grab our attention because they show us that change is possible and often closer than we think.

But what we forget is that behind every “after” photo is a lot of effort. Time, sweat, patience, and maybe a little emotional exhaustion all build up to that moment. Whether it’s a person, a kitchen, or an entire house, transformations don’t happen overnight. There’s a story in the in-between. And that’s what makes them so powerful.

For her, each job is a mission. “People have such busy lives that cleaning becomes overwhelming. That’s when we step in,” she explains. “Some people get scared by extreme mess, but I see it as a puzzle to solve.” And that moment when everything is finally clean? “It’s unbelievably satisfying,” Latika smiles.

If you’re battling stained bedsheets, Latika has a go-to trick. “Mix baking soda with white vinegar and soak the fabric,” she suggests. Follow it with a warm rinse and it works like magic. No harsh chemicals, no fuss, just household staples at work. She believes in smart, affordable solutions anyone can try. “Most people already have what they need, they just don’t know it.”

Kitchen sink looking like a war zone? She has a tip for that too. “Use lemon halves dipped in salt to scrub away grime and odor,” she says. It freshens and shines without any commercial cleaner. Plus, it smells amazing and feels instantly clean. “It’s an old-school trick, but it works every time,” she smiles. Sometimes, simple is best.

For stained sofas, Latika recommends taking it slow. “Dab the spot gently with diluted dish soap and cold water,” she says. Always test a small hidden area before going all in. “People rub too hard and damage the fabric,” she warns. The key is patience and the right technique. “You want results, not regrets.”

Got fruit flies? Latika swears by this easy homemade trap. “Mix apple cider vinegar and dish soap in a bowl,” she explains. Cover it with plastic wrap, poke a few holes, and leave it nearby. It’s surprisingly effective at trapping the tiny invaders. “You don’t need sprays or gimmicks,” she says. Just a little kitchen chemistry.

When it comes to dishes, she keeps it clean and practical. “Always rinse with hot water before loading the dishwasher,” she says. And don’t forget to clean the filter regularly. “That’s the secret to sparkling dishes,” she insists. A neglected filter spreads grime around instead of removing it. “Clean machine, clean results.”

Her golden rule? Don’t mix cleaning tools between rooms. “Use separate sponges for kitchen, bathroom, and floors,” she says firmly. Cross-contamination is a silent threat most people ignore. Color-code them if needed, it keeps things simple. “It’s such a small step that makes a huge difference,” she adds. Clean tools mean truly clean spaces.

I remember the flavor and perfume of an old tomato. I used to eat my nonno's tomatos right out from the plant when I was a baby and began to crawl. The last 25 years only a few tomatos are still flavored: cherry tomatoes and tomatoes on-the-vine.

For curtain refreshes, steam is her favorite trick. “A handheld steamer can remove odors and wrinkles in minutes,” she says. It’s easy, fast, and no need to unhook anything. Perfect for busy homes with tired fabric. “And it gives the room a fresh feel instantly,” she adds. Small tools, big impact.

Just think. The way pointe shoes are made now come in more shapes, widths and sizes than runners. The platform (the flat part at the tip of the box dancer stand en pointe) used to be nearly half the width, the box was narrower and flatter, and there wasn't as much many choices until relatively recently.

As someone with ADHD, the problem is that it's difficult to keep track of the information being thrown at us and undoubtedly we loose track of what's being said. Then we get frustrated cause we can't catch up, so we tell ourselves that will catch up after class is done while wd begin doodling. But see here, the moment we leave lecture, we'll rapidly be distracted by everything around us and forget about that catching up thing.

If that's a symptom of ADHD, wow, schoolgirl-me had it. Actually, I was referred to a specialist, and they kinda replied "We're sure she's got it based on what you sent, but it's not serious enough, so we won't check further". Because our health care system was systematically plundered by the f*****g Tories and their friends, may they all die of horrible cancers.

ADHD is horribly under diagnosed in women. Not only because of cultural misconceptions, but also because girls can have different "symptoms" than boys. It's wild to think there are so many of us women who just had to cope until adulthood when we were finally able to speak up and fight for the care we should've had all along.

I grew up and still live exactly 47 miles to the south, in Oregon. I remember May 18, 1980 like it was yesterday. I will never forget the dull roar of the main eruption, the succession of falling ash and the smell of the ash and smoke. I still have a gallon pail of ash we scooped off the cars in the driveway. It's very similar to Portland cement. If mixed with equal amounts of water, it actually dries exactly like concrete.

Fun fact: One million dollars in new $100 bills will fit in a paper grocery bag and the top can be folded over. Circulated after just one year, fits in the same bag, but the bag cannot be folded over. The moral of the story, is put it in a duffel bag and not a paper sack.

Back in the day I had a job handling money. Agh.It was such a filthy job. We ended up wearing rubber gloves under white cloth gloves to keep the smell and grime off of our skin. There were certain groups of money that had to be separated for incineration. The smell was so hideous nothing could be done to make it tolerable for recirculation .(It wasn't from underworld d**g thugs, either. I can't say where it came from.) I only stayed long enough to make money for univ. then I quit. I always felt like I needed a shower when I left work every day. "Filthy lucre", indeed.

We retired into a 1951 built house. All the wood beams are thicker than todays beams and are a dark very hard wood that takes a few minutes to even drill a single hole into. All surrounded by brick. This house ain't going anywhere in a hurricane.

Two completely different species of wood. Newer one is a faster growing species, like Sitka Spruce or Hybrid Poplar. Older wood is a fir, denser, stronger. While the industry has moved toward faster growing, spongier, less dense woods for consumer DIY, dense fir is still available, though much more expensive.

No, he said that the new wood grows so fast it is lesser quality and warps and bends easily. I'm not sure if or how you force grow wood, but it is definite that the old wood has been allowed to grow longer. It has more rings in it, indicating that the trees were older and therefore more sturdy. Trees are apparently cut down much sooner now.

Seems like the hair styles are opposite. Ken 1985 has the extreme side swoop reminiscent of the Justin Bieber look (though not quite long enough), which lingered on for many years, though maybe it's finally now out of fashion. The Ken on the right has the moused hair look that some guys had back in the 80s.

8 months ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Yes, it's safe to eat. That's not mold, it's called "bloom". It's when either fat or sugar in the chocolate migrates to the surface, caused by storage conditions with variations in temperature, or exposure to moisture/humidity. It doesn't shorten its shelf-life or make it unsafe to eat. It can affect the texture a bit, but for chocolate chips used in baking, that texture issue goes away after melting in the oven and cooling.

We even had a boat so we'd always boat around on the river, drop anchor near the dam, and swim around for a while. I haven't been back in decades, but was planning on a trip back to Parker someday to scatter some of my dad's ashes there (he died in 2021.) Sad to hear that so much has changed.

I've got one of these too (so to speak!) On the left is Chace, my German Shepherd plushie I got when I was 5 years old. I'm 43 now; Chace is 38! XD I always took him everywhere with me when I was a child (even took him with me to an air show once!) so he's obviously VERY well-loved XD A few years back I went on eBay to see if I could see any "new-condition" versions of him (I was considering cannibalizing it to replace his nose.) I found a couple and bought one, so the plushie on the right is the exact same plushie as Chace, but had clearly been kept in storage/unplayed-with so basically looks brand-new XD It even still has the Dakin "collar tag" attached! I decided in the end that Chace is perfect as he is and doesn't need his nose replaced, so now the "clone" gets to hang out on the dresser ;) Chace, of course, still gets to stay where he always has - pride of place at the head of my bed :) chace_and_...63aa62.jpg chace_and_clone-682ee8d63aa62.jpg

That sort of wear is increasingly uncommon now, because most vehicles have remote locking, with an emergency metal key hidden inside the fob, in case of a battery failure. Although sometimes even those won’t open a car with a dead battery - I’m talking to you, Renault! (Not my car, one in storage at a repair and refurbishment centre).

And a lot less dangerous to other road users - it’s increasingly difficult to see anything right in front of the vehicle with these monster trucks.

I've been there. It's so underwhelming. Photos are taken much closer up than people can go, so they look disappointingly small.

100% what I thought when I went and saw it. Then as I got older I learned about it's history and that just made it more depressing.

As a fellow oldish person (I was born in 1982 and I too grew up with Nerds) I am ashamed to admit that I actually like the Nerds Clusters a little. However, I can only eat like 2 or 3 at a time before I'm overwhelmed by the too-sweetness :( I miss the old Nerds a LOT.

What in the name of almighty fück? The pattern on Damascus steel is due to different types of steel being used... specifically, one type will have more carbon and iron. The effect is from the forging process. If the pattern is etched on then IT ISN'T DAMASCUS STEEL. This is just a stainless steel knife with a pattern drawn on. I name thee charlatan. May your crōtch become infested with the fleas of 1000 Camels and may your arms be too short to scratch.

Not quite! 😉 You're absolutely correct how Damascus steel is made. But when you finish a Damascus knife, you give it an acid bath. Because the steels have different hardnesses, the steel etches away slightly and darkens one of the steels. The pattern shows up better that way. Before etching (or acid bath) you'll only see the pattern slightly at an angle.

The metal utensils will cut the non stick coating which is unhealthy to have in the food. But plastic utensils are now known to put micro plastics into our food.

I approve of that, by now, I can’t imagine there’s a human being who uses smart phones and tablets who don’t have a drawer full of chargers and cables - due to the variety of different flavour USB connectors over the years, I’ve still got a lot of Micro-USB cables for legacy devices and batteries that still work, and I still need a Lightning cable for my old iPad; I still have a couple of 32-pin cables for my old iPod 160Gb Classic, although that might get a 2Tb and USB-C makeover.
