More than half of the world now uses social media. That’s around 5 billion people posting whatever they want, whenever they want. While a lot of the content out there is entertaining, informative and interesting, there’s also some that might make you question why certain individuals don’t have their devices confiscated while they sit in the naughty corner. From misinformation, to sheer stupidity, to a lack of critical thinking, there’s no shortage of unsharp tools in the proverbial digital shed.

Thankfully, there’s an online community that makes it their mission to shame those who refuse to think before they type, speak or act. The Facepalm subreddit has more than 8.2 million members, calling out people who have proven themselves to be fools without fear or favor. Bigotry is not tolerated, states the page, though facepalming at it is welcome. We've put together a list of the most cringey, awkward and downright dumb things shared on the page that shine a light on humanity’s beacon of stupidity. Bored Panda also reached out to William DiAntonio, founder and CEO of Reputation911 for some advice on how to conduct oneself online and what to do if or when things fall apart.

And it's no joke. I once talked to my grandmother (who had still seen things like diphtheria in her youth) about vaccinations and she had absolutely no effs to give about anti-vaxxers. She said no one in their right mind would refuse protection against those diseases.

Clive Palmer (Billionaire narccisstic Trumper wannabe) will be buying HIS way into policies this federal election. He will be spending hundreds of millions of his own money to buy votes. He is already starting TV advertising saying that Australians want Trump style politics. That's not true but the more he says it, the more people will think it IS true. Last time he tried to buy his way in, he lost big time. He thinks he has a second chance. I sincerely hope he gets soundly beaten everywhere.

In a world where we are bombarded with information left, right, and center, critical thinking is just that: critical. If we were to believe everything we read online, watch on tv, or hear in person, the consequences could be fatal.

Monash University defines critical thinking as “a kind of thinking in which you question, analyse, interpret, evaluate, and make a judgment about what you read, hear, say, or write.” Good critical thinking is about making reliable judgements based on reliable information, notes the university.

When you lack the ability to think critically, and believe everything you read or hear, you run the risk of doing or posting some very stupid or questionable things online. And in turn, ripping your reputation to shreds. What you put out there influences the way people perceive you.

And while you can’t control everything others say, you can manage the content you publish, your responses to feedback, and address defamation to influence the public conversation, warns online reputation management firm Reputation911.

Very few school shooters have gotten the death penalty? Let's break that down. First, you have to be in a state that has a death penalty. Second, you have to be over 18. If you're doing a school shooting, chances are you're under 18. And then lastly and perhaps most importantly, you have to have survived the incident and gotten apprehended by police. Most shooters have k****d themselves before that happens. This meme is skewed and incorrect.

    Mike F

There's no fact checking involved. Someone just "creates" a meme and throws it out there where it is picked up by others who then splash it everywhere because it fits their narrative. In my mind it's the equivalent of getting worked up over fox news, the same amount of care is used in the "creation" of memes that are posted to stir people up as in fox's stories meant to do the same.

No, it's not that "illegals are taking their jobs." It's that the illegals are receiving gov't subsidies at the expense of the taxpayers. It's incredible how much money you can get in my CA county if you are illegal, but, God help you get health care if you have cancer and can no longer afford your insurance. Americans are literally sick and tired of our taxpayer dollars going to pay for illegals food, clothing, shelter and medical care! During the 4 year Biden Administration, 10 MILLION illegals entered my country. Where do you think that money comes from to provide services for them? What would happen to your country if 10 MILLION entered in 4 years? Would you welcome them with open arms? Really?

As someone who grew up surrounded by Evangelical Christians, I can truthfully say, they share the JOYUS belief that human civilization will collapse. It is something that I was indoctrinated to every day. They WANT civilization to collapse because they think it means the Rapture will happen. It is the GOAL of Evangelical Christians to accelerate, exacerbate, or cause war, poverty, famine, pestilence, and greed in the hope of condemning all of humanity to suffer while they receive a reward. It is the ultimate self-centered and selfish d*****s conspiracy theory.

That's definitely one way of looking at this miserable situation. Maybe this is just a hangover attitude from my 60's protest days, but we didn't have the internet to get our messages out across the nation, and yet we were still able to amass large protests - some that actually produced change. I'm not smart enough to give advice, but somehow we need to reach people who have clocked out. I truly understand the fear-driven apathy the younger generations are feeling, but how can we get them to turn that fear into anger? Anger, properly directed, is a motivator that will enact change.

Reputation911 cautions that social media can be a double-edged sword. Things can go either way, depending on what's posted. As we've seen time and again, content can go viral in a flash on social media, and this isn't always a good thing. Managing your content on social media is critical, warns the agency, and using socials strategically can help with your online image.

"One of the biggest mistakes people make on social media is posting impulsively, without considering how their words or images may be perceived in different contexts. Avoid sharing controversial opinions in a way that invites backlash, disclosing too much personal information, or engaging in heated arguments that can escalate," DiAntonio told Bored Panda.

The expert adds that it's important to remember that even deleted posts can be screenshotted and resurface later. He says it’s always best to pause before posting and ask "Would I be comfortable seeing this on the front page of a news site?"

Clean cheap fusion energy has always been $50 billion and 30 years of research away since the 1950s. But EVERY time we've tried to assemble an international research team it has been under funded or delayed so that the 1% can keep selling us carbon fuels and pollute the Earth while they live like kings. 50 YEARS LATER they finally ponied up 1/5th the funding needed and got 1/5th of the way there. But Sam Altman says he can eliminate the average office worker and suddenly there's $500 BILLION in spending available for research. We could have a bright shining clean future within 10 years, but rich a******s will make more if the rest of us suffer.

This is a terribly sad, yet true statement. I can't believe my country has become a place where children have to participate in active shooting drills in their schools. The fanaticism with the 2nd Amendment has put the lives of American children at risk on daily basis. It's one of the primary reasons I don't want my daughter to move to the US for school.

We had Duck & Cover drills during the Cold War. Those of us old enough to understand eventually got used to the constant tension and threat of annihilation in stoic fashion. But this is different. Active shooting drills should never, ever be part of a child's school years. GOP wants us to have more kids, but they refuse to protect the ones that have already been born. And the Democrats continue to sit on their hands.

I'm also on the fence about this. I have always believed that people have the right to live their lives as they choose, as long as what they do doesn't affect the lives of people around them in a negative way. The transgirls/women in sports issue is a tough one. On the one hand, I agree that all people should have the right to compete in sports, but on the other hand, I can certainly understand how some women would feel that a man who became a woman might have some unfair advantages. And while there has been at least one study that says this isn't true, I think more research is needed in this area. Is it possible that transgirls/women have some advantages over cisgendered girls/women? I think it depends on the sport.

I'm not a trans person, and I don't know a lot about this, but I do know that once someone starts taking hormones, their body physically changes. Stuff like muscle mass, smell, and probably other things that I'm forgetting. So if a trans athlete has taken hormones, they do not have a 'biological advantage' over cis competitors. And even if they did, why in the world should something like CHESS be divided by s*x?

Im generally pro trans rights but I think it’s ok to separate sports by biological gender. We separate them by age already, and I’ve never heard anyone argue against that. My example I use is if a 12 foot tall alien came down and wanted to play basketball it would probably ruin the sport. Yes shaq had a size advantage but it’s not like the lakers won every game by 100 points. The goal should be fair competition and unfortunately biological s*x can create a large enough advantage in some situations that I just don’t personally want to see it the same way I don’t want to see shaq post up a 12 year old.

Despite your best attempts, sometimes the things will still hit the fan. If this happens and you find your reputation rapidly heading for the drain, the experts advise that you do damage control as fast as possible. Here's what Reputation911 suggests you do when things go south...

First, do some research to figure out the extent of the damage so you know what you're dealing with. "If a post leads to unexpected backlash, the first step is to assess whether removing it is the best course of action. Deleting a post doesn’t erase screenshots, but it can help de-escalate the situation," says DiAntonio.

"If the reaction is minor, it may be best to let it pass. However, if the post has gone viral, addressing it head-on, through an apology or clarification, may be necessary. The key is to avoid defensive responses that fuel further criticism. Seeking professional reputation management guidance can also help in cases where significant damage control is needed."

I still wear a mask inside of public places. My husband is a pancreatic cancer survivor and after fighting a predicted losing battle and coming out victorious, there's no freaking way a virus is going to get to him, if I can help it. Anyone who has some snarky remarks regarding my choice simply shows their ignorance, as well as their misery in their own world. Why else would another person's choice annoy or anger them?

B***h, some of my friends are fully immuno-compromised. If I want to see them in person I need to wear a double mask anywhere in public for two weeks, chart my temperature 3x daily, and be a paranoid germaphobe in every other part of my life. Just so I can give someone I love a hug a couple times a year. If you can't understand that, go f**k yourself

Or maybe... They're actually protecting you because they're sick? Why does everyone in this thread assume people wear masks to protect themselves when they really should be worn by people who have an airborne disease if they have to go out in public? Standard in Asia before covid, should have become standard in the west too.

We all know that masks were invented in 2020, that they were never used before that, and that they should only be used specifically when there is a (hoax) corona pandemic. Thems the complete facts. Yup. Completely.

The agency advises that if you are at fault for the situation, you need to make amends. This means issuing a statement apologizing for any wrongdoings that have affected customers, stakeholders, and others.

But the experts say simply issuing an apology is not enough. You need to create a long-term recovery plan. If you just say that you will do better, people won’t trust you. Instead, you have to show them that you are doing better, warns Reputation911.

The company says the next step is to proactively communicate any changes you have made to address the issues with your audience. And then to make it a priority to follow through on any commitments you have made. Consistency helps to rebuild trust with your audience, adds the team. But be patient because the recovery process doesn’t happen overnight, and can often take a long time.

My guess: His Russian buddies have been talking it up about how it will make him "strong" because his main motivation in life is to be seen as "strong" (because he's actually weak). The Russians have talked it up, Trump has soaked it up, and the Russians know it will be bad for the US and all its allies. Trump probably actually believes in his pea brain that it's somehow a good idea. Governor Trump is a victim of propaganda and then he's turned his victimhood around and is now the a****r.

But in Trump's case, it's not because of his age but because of his ego. He simply doesn't give a d**n about Canada being an independent country now, he just talks about what it'll soon be. According to him. Trump -and the US and NATO- are going to get absolutely screwed beyond recognition just because Trump thinks he can make clever deals with Putin, who is a whole different league of ruthless.

And Trump is selling citizenship to oligarchs. Who do you think is going to be running and financing the American mining companies in Ukraine? Where do you think they will hire the sub contractors and lease the infrastructure from? Wake up fgs this is a blatant theft with Russia the beneficiary in every way and Ukraines future utterly lost. In a couple of years those same Oligarchs run mining cos will insist on more and more Russian assets to protect their financial Interests and Ukrainian politicians that can’t be bought will be falling out of windows in droves. How can the world be blind to this blatantly obvious plot?

This is the most infuriating thing. Before the ekection, so many people said " it is the economy". Now when people ask " how is what is happenning helping the economy? " , the response is " i dont really care about prices". You can fight a viklian when they have a clear agenda: He wants "A" you want "B". This is just making up new rules to keep winning.

Elon’s weird headbob, where he lowers his head so he can look up at them, trump clasping his stubby fingers, looking down, while Elon talks…it’s just weird.

They were VERY CLEAR that this is the government they wanted. FOR DECADES they shouted this LOUDLY and PUBLICLY! They would rather see queer kids k**l themselves instead of discovering and accepting their healthy queer identities. They prefer people die rather than listen to science. They prefer people accept slavery rather than see the wealthy pay taxes. THEY WANT THE WORLD TO BURN! These people want the world to end so they can get Raptured up to Heaven. EVERYONE who doesn't think like them is expendable to their goals. And I want everyone on the planet to know that if they want to understand what is happening. Logic and reason don't apply to these people or what is happening. The 1% have taken control of the batshit crazy religious people and they're happy to be along for the ride, because when everything goes to s**t, the 1% will be happy to sell you water, medical care, food, and housing, for an infinitely higher price. Today's events are the culmination of a decades long concerted, organised, well funded, well run, campaign to overturn almost all of the progress we've made since the pre-war years. That's how most rewards are paid out and have been for a very long time. They're usually on the condition that the person is arrested AND convicted. How else do the courts determine guilt? After a trial. Now the reward money can be paid out. If they've got the wrong guy, then there's no more reward money to be paid out. This is not the new normal.

One needs curiosity and eagerness for knowledge too. The books have always been there, in libraries around us, but if we don't go in and open books, we won't know what's in them. The same with Google and other search-ways. My parents often said "I don't know the answer to that question, let's go look in some books" (it was long before the age of Google and Wikipedia). They had (and still have) an extensive home library, with lots of encyclopedias and non-fiction books on all kinds of different subjects. They made us kids thirsty for knowledge, and I can't stop myself from looking for knowledge if I encounter something I don't have an answer to. I had a colleague a few years ago who said that he never needed to use Google or Wikipedia, because I had already searched for things before he had even started to question it. He had the answer quicker than he could type.

What If we all saved our money that we would have paid them, and then ask for the cash discount? You’re not getting approved for that big life saving surgery anyways. I’d rather take financial responsibility, have my surgery and deal with the cost later. Do we actually need them? Too bad doctors aren’t starting their own clinics that make this kind of plan accessible.

If I, in Sweden, have a medical problem. I call the local health center and talk to nurses there. They decide whether I need a doctor's appointment or if they can give me advice on the phone. A doctor's appointment costs around 20 or 30 dollars. If I need more specialized care, I get referred to a hospital, might have to wait a couple of months, but that visit costs around 30 dollars too, when I get there. If I'm very sick, I just go to the emergency center, and they will take care of me as soon as they can (the sickest persons first, not the richest), that's also about 30 dollars.

The US has the worst healthcare system compared to other countries. As long as these insurance companies are making millions maybe billions it'll never change. They have deep pockets and can easily buy politicians that are favorable to their companies.

I'm an Aussie. Today I had to go by ambulance to hospital. I pay about $300 yearly for ambulance subscription, so no charge Today I was in the hospital emergency department for around 5 hours. During that time I had blood tests, ECG, chest x rays and medication. Cost to me $0. It's covered by Medicare, the Government funded health care system to which you pay a levy from your wages during your working career. Thank God I live in Australia.

Stop paying off your health care debt, just get a payment plan, this is legal in all 50 states and they are required by law to have this option and honor it. Make good faith payments of $5 per month, and they can't come after you. I'll be paying for my whole life, but I'll be damned if they wiill gouge me for profit. Every hospital, every ambulance has to do this. Medical debt is separate from other debt. Equally, just give them the name of someone you hate and get them sent the bill. They do a complete relevant history anyway. Don't tell them how to bill you

You are absolutely and utterly wrong. I believed that too and got turned over to collections for failing to meet the agreed upon payment. Not once but twice. I got lucky and called the clinic. I had to pay over the phone to meet what I owed under the payment plan and the clinic called off collections and removed it from my credit report. I was also denied my appointment with another doc because I hadn't paid in full the last bill they sent me. I was free to find another specialist, which was impossible where I'm at. Talk about scrambling for money and borrowing from family and becoming a one car family to pay back the family who couldn't afford to lend us the money.

Well, they can be grateful that they didn't require an air-ambulance. Just two private equity firms own 2/3s of the market. They are most likely out-of-network, assuming you have health insurance, so they are free to charge you as much as they like. https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2022/04/how-private-equity-took-over-air-ambulances.html

in the UK, the air ambulance (and Lifeboats) are charities. that's bad enough, these should be funded like the military, police, fire service and NHS are, through taxation) but at least they don't charge you if you need them.

I have epilepsy, so have been transported by ambulance quite a few times. A couple of those times I have been charged about 20 dollars (maybe when they thought I could have gotten to the hospital by taxi or bus, even though I was kinda unconscious when the ambulance was called, and didn't quite return to full consciousness until I was at the hospital), but most of the rides have been free of charge. I live in Sweden.

I was born in the 50's and several of my classmates had had polio before they started school (the vaccine was, at the time, started about age 2. So, they walked with slight limps, a bit lopsided. However, if you survive polio, there are devastating long term consequences that appear in later life. *The long-term effects of polio, often referred to as "post-polio syndrome," include progressive muscle weakness, joint pain, fatigue, muscle atrophy, breathing difficulties, swallowing problems, sensitivity to cold temperatures, and sometimes speech impairments, all of which can develop years after the initial polio infection and gradually worsen over time; essentially, the muscles that were previously affected by polio continue to weaken and deteriorate due to the lasting damage to the nerves that control them*

Once, when we had landed at the airport here in Sweden, and (of course) needed to use the bathroom, the Men's one was out of order, so we all shared the Women's. 17000 claimed by Hamas, UN has said its all unverified. But Hamas also considers anyone under 20 as a child for death purposes, including armed combatants (as Hamas officially recruits as young as 15 by their own admission) so a 19 year old with a AK is a "child death". However we can confirm 17,500 of the dead, are confirmed combatants, and the UN has only been able to verify 8,000 total civilian deaths so far, and if this is like the 2014 war and 2008 war numbers, take Hamas's total, reduce by 30%, then half the number of women and children dead and replace those numbers with men of combat age, and that Israel's claimed Combatant death numbers are accurate within 3%, and you get the real total. Because the last few wars, the numbers ended up being the same adjustment once everything got verified after. Hamas started a war, Israel is replying no different than any other country would, in fact more restrained with the lowest civilian to military death ratio ever recorded

Bottom line, girls who do this do deserve some of the blame if they present themselves as older than they really are and lie about their age. Our government should learn something from Nepal their government got directly involved when the girl suicides in Bhubaneswar and ours gives not a damn when Indians are getting k****d deported tortured and our share markets crashing due to Orange Nation's tariffs. Look, I have no enmity for miss Welch, but her only knowledge credentials (as far as the world knows) are related to oral techniques with partners. I wouldn't pick a lawyer based on whether they are a generous lover, or a mechanic based on whether they do cuddling, so what on Earth persuaded people to think that investing money with her was a good idea? They deserve everything that happened to them.
