There are quite a few stray cats where I live,-my cat Cinder was one last year- Also, I know a few neighbors that let their cats outside. I wanted to make a suitable outdoor shelter for the strays in the area. I was planning on making one with plastic bins layed with straw, and styrofoam for insulation. But the other day I was thinking that maybe I could use the dead car in my driveway. We've tried to sell it, and eventually trying to give it away, but no luck. So before I have to pay to get it scrapped I want to see if I could repurpose it.

So first off, would using a car be a good temporary car shelter? I think that I would have to make some modifications. There would need to be a way for the cat to get in, so the door would need to remain open partially. I've heard stories about cats getting stuck in the engine, so I'm concerned about that. Any ideas how that could be avoided?

So, (assuming the car is a good idea) I need tips for what to do to make it warm, safe temporary shelter. How and what would need to be modified and/or added to keep the cats safe protected from the elements and comfortable. And I guess how would I lure the strays to the car?

I'd appreciate any advice or tips anyone has. Thanks!
